Ruby
Ruby Hale got out of her fatherâs privet jet and took her first breath of the bitterly cold Alaskan air. The whole way over from Darwin she had been in tears and rowing with him. She didnât think it was fair that she had to move away from all her friends just because of his job.
âI know this is a big step, sweetie,â James, Rubyâs father, started as he wrapped his arm around his daughter, âBut itâs for the best,â
Ruby rolled her eyes as they walked slowly down the stainless steel steps. She loved her dad but he made her so angry sometimes.
âDad, getting loads of money that we already have isnât for the best,â She snarled.
After taking a one and a half hour taxi ride to their new home Ruby stood out the front, staring at the massive three story house she was expected to live in. Ok, she had to admit the indoor heated pool and outdoor tennis court was pretty cool but why did they need such a big house when it was only the two of them.
âNice, huh?â James smiled as he carted their bags in.
Ruby shook her head, âIf you get a mansion I get a dog!â
James laughed, âMaybe,â
Ruby finally made her way inside and checked out all the rooms. Every bedroom had pink wallpaper except her dadâs room and that was just plain white.
âIâm not sleeping in a room with pink wallpaper itâs-â
âStupid and girlie and looks like shit, yes Ruby I know,â James sighed.
Ruby smiled, âWe understand each other then?â
James lugged some boxes into some of the rooms and pointed to the lounge sweet upstairs.
âYou can sleep on them for tonight until I get the painters in, wallpaper goes moldy in this sort of climate.â
They ended up with pizza for dinner and Ruby fiddled around with the plasma TV until she worked it out. She watched âTwo and a Half Menâ until she got sick of the American adds and then decided to call her best friend, Jamie.
âOh, my god, Ruby, guess what happened today?â Jamie started straight away before even saying hello.
âWhat happened this time, did Christina and Danielle finally have a punch up?â Ruby asked excitedly.
âNope, Mark and Ben were at it!â She cried making a blowing noise into the phone. âThey were apparently fighting over this new girl, Casey, sheâs really pretty and nice too.â
Ruby frowned, sheâd missed a new girl and a fight by a day. âHow is it possible I missed that?!?â
The girls chatted away for a while until Jamieâs mum made her go to dinner. Ruby heard her voice getting teary.
âI miss you already,â Jamie whimpered sniffing loudly.
âI miss you too, tell everyone at school I said hi,â Ruby smiled before pressing the end call button.
James walked into the room with a slice of pizza in his hand.
âYou made Jamie cry,â Ruby teased taking a bite out of it.
He laughed then switched the TV back on. Ruby leaned over the lounge and kissed his on the forehead.
âNight,â She said as she walked out of the room. She dragged her blankets and pillows into the other lounge room and snuggled up until she was warm enough to fall asleep.
So what do you think????
I was planning for Ruby to meet a guy, Kyle, there is somethng weird about him, when she goes to shool a week later but what can happen between then???

Oh and BTW...Darwin is in Australia...
Answer
Good start. I'd keep reading it. Maybe ruby's new guy friend could explain why all the rooms are pink? Maybe it was a house for girls? He could be weird, because he knows terrible secrets about the house.
Or he could take her exploring her new town an he could be a "bad" boy and get her into trouble with her dad? Or take her back to her old town?

Ruby woke early in the morning to the sound of a scratching noise on the door downstairs. Ruby slipped on her dressing gown and slippers then crept down the creaky wooden stairs. The scratching turned into soft growling sound youâd hear from a dog. She placed her ear on Jamesâ door and could hear him snoring.
Suddenly the growling got louder and more persistent and Ruby couldnât fight her curious nature anymore. Slowly she opened the door and walking around outside was a brown dog. It looked agitated and nervous.
âHere boy!â Ruby whispered. The dog quickly looked up. It stared at Ruby then bared back its teeth. Its ferocious bark was terrifying and bits of spit frothed at the mouth. Ruby quickly shut the door and watched out the window as the dog started eating the snow that gathered on the pavement. Its pupils were dilated and it seemed somewhat disorientated like a person on drugs.
âRuby?â James yawned as he stumbled sleepily out of his room, âWhatâs going on out there?â
Ruby shrugged, âI think that dogâs got rabies,â
James looked out the window and sighed. âPoor thing, itâll have to get put down.â
Suddenly a loud bang echoed through the street and the dog dropped down with blood growing around its stomach. A tall middle aged woman appeared with a gun in her hand. She stood carefully a long distance from the dead animal then pulled out her mobile phone. She spoke for a while then turned to the window Ruby and James were staring out. She did a wide circle around the dog then walked up to the door. She rang the door bell as James walked over to it and opened the door. The woman smiled and leaned her gun against the door frame as she flicked some snow out of her long blonde hair.
