Middle School??

whatsernam

I am going to Middle school in a week or 2 and I am nervous! What should I expect, should I bring a lock for my locker? Do I need a big backpack? How much different from elementry school is it? What styles are exceptable in middle school? Is it hard keeeping track of all the different classes? If you know anything please tell me all you know and pronto!

Answer
Middle school is not as hard as it looks. You will want to only bring your essential supplies (paper, pens, folder, etc.) on the first day, because some schools don't give out locker assignments right away and you'll be stuck lugging all your stuff around from class to class. Most schools have combination locks already attached to the lockers, so you won't need an extra padlock. However, some schools require you to have an extra lock for your gym locker. Your teachers will provide you with a supply list for each class, so you'll know what to bring. Once you've got your locker, you can just go there once before school, once at lunch, and once at the end of the day, and you can change out the books/supplies you'll need for each class, so you won't have to carry around too much.

As for keeping track of the classes: it is pretty easy, but nobody expects you to get your schedule 100% memorized by the first day, so don't be shy about asking someone where a classroom is if you can't find it. Also, when I was in middle school, I remember that the teachers were pretty lenient on the first few days of school if we were late to a class because we couldn't find it or something.

I think you'll find that all the kids your age are still going to be adapting to middle school, just like you, so the styles for kids in your class will most likely be the same as they were in elementary school. The older kids may dress/look different, but that doesn't mean you should copy them. Just stick to who you are as a person, and your true friends will just like you the way you are.

One more piece of advice: if you are a girl, you will inevitably meet up with a group of "mean girls", either in your class or older than you. Whatever you do, DON'T let them get to you. If you have to ignore them, come up with witty comebacks, whatever-do it. Just don't let them make you feel worthless or dumb, because you're not. OK?

MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

glamababii

im going to middle school. my town is kinda weird middle school is from 7-8th grade. also the middle school is set up into communities and they are called different things from greek letters like my brother last year was in Theta and the year before that Delta. each hall is 1 community. I AM TERRIBLY SCARED!!!!! here are my questions

******when you go to homeroom on the first day of school do you bring ALL your school supplies to just that one class or do you keep it in your locker because on the first day i have no idea what to bring. i was thinking of the day before the first day of school to do my binder and make each class a seperate section and my other binder will just be cycle classes. this school has certain locker times for each community.

************ how long is it usually to switch from class to class because i dont wanna be late or too early.

*********** FRIENDS i am also scared if none of my friends will be in my community. can u guys help me get over that.

*********LOCKERS on the first day of school do they give you your textbooks?? what if your locker is too small for like 5 txt books 2 binders and a backpack. at this school some communities have half lockers, full lockers(long ones) and low lockers with kinda like a drawer on top(IM HOPING FOR A LONG ONE!)

PLEASE IF I HAVE ANYMORE QUESTIONS CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL!!!!!!!!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!

Answer
I'm going to 7th grade, too! Yay! But I know a little bit about middle school and what to expect, since mine starts in 6th grade.

Question 1: You aren't required to bring all of your supplies to one class. Look at your schedule and find all of your locker breaks. Only get the supplies needed for classes in between locker breaks. For example if your schedule looks like this:

Locker
1st Period--Math
2nd Period--English
Locker
3rd Period--Science
4th Period--US History
Locker

Then, when you go to your locker for the first time, you would get only the stuff you need for English and Math. Then, when you go to your locker the second time, you only need stuff for Science and History. The teachers don't expect you to carry all of that around all day. As far as your binder, I like that idea. It's a great way to stay organized.

Question 2: The teachers usually dismiss your from your class and allow you to go to your locker. Most of the time, on the first day of school, they will tell you how long they'll allow you to be at your locker. Usually, it's no more than five minutes. And if you keep your locker organized, that shouldn't be a problem.

Question 3: It's ok if your friends aren't in your community. More than likely there are a ton of other kids that are coming to this school, which gives you the opportunity to make a lot of new friends. Just be careful who you pick as friends, because sometimes, they just aren't the right ones. And if you simply can't go through middle school without your besties, let your parents know and they can write a note to the guidance office, possible allowing you to switch classes.

Question 4: Textbooks usually are handed out on the first day of school. Your locker should be big enough, because you won't have all of that in there at one time (You have to have some books and binders for you classes). As far as a book bag, what I would recommend carrying instead of that is a tote bag. You can put all of your books in there and carry a purse with that if you would like. That way, you can carry it around all day with your books (Saves arm space) and you don't have to deal with a book bag in your locker (Saves locker space). You can find these bags at Wal-Mart.

http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&search_query=tote+bags&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find

I hope that this helped you out a lot! You can definitely email me whenever you want at crazy_carolina_child@yahoo.com. Have a absolutely spectacular day!

Should I Get a rolling backpack for middle school?

Chloe

Hi, Im going into 7th grade (middle school) and they have 6 periods, and no lockers!!!

Should I get a rolling backpack or is that to nerdy, or a good way to get made fun of?

THANKS!!!

PS: Please include links for backpacks I might enjoy!

Answer
No it is best not to. When you leave k-6 where I'm from you are considered to big for a rolling book bag it is seen as childish and yes you will get made fun a lot. To be safe get a regular two strap book bag. normally in 7-12 where there's 6 periods you wont need to pack a lot of stuff. like in grade school on the first day your book bag was seconds from bursting with all the supplies you had inside of it. That is not the case in 7-12 book bags usually nothing at all or at least a pencil, pen and some paper on the first day and you do not need much. With Your school though it might be OK since the no locker thing (not to be mean but what middle school has no lockers are u a private school kid or something just wondering?) I don't have many book bag links Amazon would help probably but any book bag should do from any store that sells them.

Need middle school tips, badly?

Butterfly

Please email me whatever answers you come up with at tweet069101@hotmail.com . I deleted any personal info already liek my first and last name so no one can figure out my identity, the reason I am using that email is because its my main email.

Hey people, its your girl butterfly. I need tips! I am going into 6th (A.K.A middle school) and I need tips. I am gonna be new along with my 8 BFF's and I need tips. Well I wanna choose two elective classes two rate in order from 1-4 and here are my choices:
Art, Chorous, Life management, Exploring technolagy. I am good with computers and drawing. I sing good but dont wanna be in chorus. I wanna choose two electives because I am not good with reading notes and playing them (Band). So anyways, I dont wanna get bad grades and I dont wanna forget all the stuff I need to know. Here are my main questions:

How do I remember my locker combo? How do I decorate my locker in 5 minutes?

How do I keep from getting lost? What if they dont have maps?

How do I keep up with where to go and how to get there? (over 73 different classes and special classes).

What if I have to change in front of a bunch of girls since we have to take gym.

How do I contact my bff's? What if we want to eat lunch together?

Our school colors are tacky! What do I do? I dont look good in orange! (Black, white, orange)

What if teachers are like witches? (Basicly describing my 3rd grade teacher, an old lady with a mean voice).

How do I get enough sleep with such a buisy schedule? (My day is basicly getting up at 4:30 a.m, get dressed, my mom does my hair, btw I am black so thats why. Next I grab all my stuff and get in the car, vroom, errrrrrrhhhhhhh, we're at my dad's house, bam I close the car door and make my way into his living room, its 5:14, he wakes up in 6 minutes, I try to catch some Z's and then, beep beep beep, his alarm clock goes off, oh no I gotta brush my teeth and use the bathroom get on my shoes and grab my bag! We head for my grandmas, my parents have day jobs, we hurry there and she opens the door. I go back to sleep and then eat. Oh crap, my breath smells like do do now. I dont know what to do. Then I get to school. 6 hours and 30 mintues of boring EOG crap. Yawn, I end up falling asleep. "Sit up!" the teacher says but I cant seem to stay awake. Then ding ding ding the bell rings and everyone rushes out of the school. I get picked up by my grandma or grandaddy and we go to the house. Oh no, I have an annoying 7 year old cousin who wont shut up and leave me alone. He doesnt ever stop singing or making noises which is why I couldnt finish my homework yestarday, he kept following me and making stupid noises trying to unlock whatever door of the room I was in. Ding dong ding dong ding ding ding dong, my dads here, yay! Two hours later, my mom gets here, I get on the computer and thats it, then I go to bed at 9:30). I'm buisy dont ya think? Its horrible!

What do I do? Little black kids think I am ugly and might try to kill me! What do I do to stay safe? They can easily bring granades, in fourth grade this 12 year old retard decided he was gonna bring a bb gun, he was supposed to be suspended for the rest of the year, only 10 days! Mother freaking butt holes should have suspended him for longer, he could have killed someone. To believe hes gonna go to my schoo next year.

I have way too many books and way too much homework! How do I narrrow it down?

I cant see the baurd, what am I supposed to do? If I ask someone what it says the teacher might think I am cheating. I don't wear glasses because they dont anything, the glasses I have on my side table just make the words or whatever less fuzzy (no not fuzzy fision, just makes it clearer). I want a certain type of glasses like these:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/tatyveli/1682138701/

I really dont wanna ask my dad for glasses. So please try to answer edleast say 4 of my questions.

Basicly the middle school is less than 5 minutes away from my current school, you can just walk there.

Also this is a girls only question but what do I do if my period starts and theres no tisue in the stall and I have no one in the bathroom to ask for help? I dont want to walk around wet knowing the it might bleed through.

Answer
1. Lots of middle schools give you a homework planner. Write your locker combo in one of the reference pages.

2. Decorate: Metal lockers: use magnets to attach a strip of cool-patterned fabric to the back of your locker or inside of door. Plastic lockers: use poster putty (sold at drugstores in paper aisle).

3. If you're lost, ask around. Don't say you're in the youngest grade, just say you're new. Better to duck into a classroom and ask a teacher.

4. You'll eventually learn to memorize your schedule and once you start remembering where you're going, it won't take so long to get there.

5. Changing in front of peers ain't that bad. Just do it. If you're shy, use a bathroom stall or behind an open locker door. When you get to know your P.E. classmates, it's really no big deal anymore.

6. Text them. Email them. IM them. But not when you might get in trouble. Don't test your teachers within the first two weeks, since they may remember you as the girl always on the phone/computer and will be more likely to take them away from you.

7. Your school colors rock. Play up the black and white since you don't like orange with a black headband or black clips and b/w bracelets and beads :P

8. If the teachers are bad, remember other people have to put up with them too. If you're singled out by the teacher and end up being the student he/she picks on, tell your parents and counselor.

9. High school schedules are often worse than middle school. If you want, catch some ZzZz's during the later part of lunch and set a phone alarm before class starts.

10. BB guns won't kill people. Honestly. My brother has one and it hurts, but there are much worse things. If you're worried, take martial arts over the weekends or something - I suggest Tae Kwon Do. Still, don't sweat it much; it's not too likely super disasters will happen.

11. Homework: take good notes, use composition books instead of folder paper in binders (if possible), don't take textbooks home unless you need them for that night, study your NOTES, not your BOOKS, and get a sturdy backpack. Get into the habit of using your locker.

12. Ask for glasses anyway. If you really can't see anything, you'd be hurting your education by not being able to learn to your best ability. If you want a certain style of glasses, just ask! The place selling them may have discounts and sales :)

13. The period thing is a nightmare, but I suggest keeping a small makeup purse with two to three pads/tampons in your locker. If there's no tissue in your stall, just walk out, grab some paper towels from by the sink or tissues from the next stall, and use those until you can get some real pads. <-- Hope that never happens to you.

Good luck in middle school & congratulations on finishing elementary!
MOST IMPORTANT: Have fun, chill out, and go with it :)

Cute but different backpack for middle school?

=]

my daughter wants a cute backpack for seventh grade but she doesn't like having the same thing as anyone else so something different but cute she liked this one at zumiez but it was too small and she keeps asking me if she should carry around a purse in school but im not sure cause she see's these videos on youtube about what too keep in a school purse so she keeps asking me and i don't know the answer for that so help please and thanks

Answer
You can do lots of things.. they make tye-dye kits if she likes that. you can use different colors, shapes, etc. i agree with letting them decorate them themselves, that is very cool. Get her some pins and markers and stuff. That way she can be creative and original. Everyone will love that and who knows? Maybe she will start a trend :) Middle School is where the kids create their own image, and how people will portray them later on in High School even. As for the purse matter, PLEASE let her carry a purse. On picture days, she will feel much better sitting in a class full of girls digging stuff out of their purses, if she can too. Not to mention how embarrassing it is to "start" and not have anything on you and have to go to the nurse or call home to get something. A lot of kids at my middle school didnt even carry backpacks though. We used lockers and stuff cuz once the teachers start piling the books on you, you are NOT going to want to lug them around everywhere you go.
