My high school sucks?

It was built in 1960 and was designed to hold about half as many students as it currently does. Nothing seems to work quite right. The heaters only work during the summer and the air conditioning only works in the winter. The asbestos insulation has all burned out and the building becomes an oven or a meat locker, depending on the time of year. The plumbing is a disaster, with drinking fountains never working but toilets that never stop running.

The people include principals, counselor, teachers, and ex-Marine drill sergeants (gym teachers). They are destroying my life through tedious testing, poorly planned projects, educational videos made during the Truman Administration, and text books that mention the Soviet Union on every page.

I dont learn anythinh but try to find friends who aren't complete douche bags, try to hook up with people of the opposite sex unsuccessfully, combing my hair, buying cloths in the effort that someone will notice me, working out so I will not get my ass kicked everyday, trying desperately to get rid of the zits that have taken over my face, driving a car that a homeless person wouldn't piss in or riding on an over crowed bus while choking on diesel fumes, while people I don't know make fun of me worse then my friends do, and on top of all of that, I must act like nothing is wrong in my life.

This is the worst high school in the world thawt ever existed, what's a good high school like? Cause im transferring there ASAP

Thats nothing compared to my school.

The same people get chosen to do everything and go on all the school trips.You are forced to do things.The school is filled with rats!, our school is one of the oldest in England and was actchually founded in 1206! and most of the building is THE SAME AS IT WAS THEN. We HAVE to learn Ancient Greek. Eugh! Seriously. The majority of people there are snobs and are all ridiculously clever & everything.I know how you feel!.
You wont have to stay there forever though!

I just need some suggestions of simple snack-like foods for a 1960's project I'm doing for school.

Crisps with a little bag of salt in.

Sandwiches wrapped in cellophane - cheese, ham, egg and cress.

Fish and chips, wrapped in newspaper.

Sev, an Indian snack consisting of dried vegetables and other edible stuff like seeds, nuts and so on.

Fish fingers.

Marmite soldiers - strips of bread spread with Marmite and served with boiled egg - egg must be boiled soft so you can dip the soldiers in the yolk.

Footplateman's breakfast - take one steam train shovel, clean it, coat it with lard, then put egg, bacon and anything else like mushrooms on it and put into firebox. Result - piping hot breakfast.

What should I dress up as for my school dance?

the theme is time machine so i can either dress up as past, present, or future. i'm definitely not doing present, and wont' do future unless i get a really good idea.
what i'm interested in is the past, but i can't really decide what to do.
i have dark brown-black hair and i'm tan. i either want to do the 1920's, 1960's, or 1990's. Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, before deciding on a definite era, I'd hit thrift stores and consignment stores to find stuff that could fit in one of your categories. I'd nix the 90's, personally, because it's still pretty fresh. Flapper style is really fun to do, and so is 60's style. I'd do a lot of research; Costumer's Manifesto (costumes.org) is a good place to start for research; they offer links for just research, for buying, and for making.

Just remember: it doesn't have to be expensive. Thrift stores and consignments are your best friends, and your friends' closets are pinky-swear-secret-best-friends-club friends. Don't be afraid to do a little modification, and keep an eye out for things that are aaaaalmost like a picture you saw. If you want to, print out a few different pictures of the typical fashions of the era to bring to the store.

Oh yeah, and don't forget accessories and hair styles. If you have long hair, keep in mind that you'll have to pin it up or get a wig if you're going for the flapper look, but it will be perfect for the 60's look. Likewise, a cute little flat, pinned-on hat or a tight-fitting cloche say 20's like nothing else can. You can actually find decently priced authentic antique or high quality reproduction hats at antique stores (I found a velvet flat cap for about 8 dollars). Keep in mind the mindset of the culture, too; for instance, don't wear leather sandals if you're a vegan hippie.

First and foremost, DON'T BUY IT FROM A COSTUME SHOP. Just don't. Wigs, shoes, bracelets, fine, but avoid the costume-in-a-bag deals. A carefully assembled costume is usually cheaper AND better looking AND more durable than anything you'll buy from Party City, and you may rewear some of the pieces just as everyday wear.

I'm not saying the Republican party is great, I'm just noticing more Democrats trying to pretend that their was some kind of "flip flop" in parties... What's the deal?

O.K., I'm going to go REAL SLOW and make some references that you obviously won't be able to follow up on, but just in case someone with some faculties reads this, I have to begin with noting that your interpretation of "history" or whatever you call that ridiculous stupidity you're spewing is so perverse as to be less than moronic.

First, neither the United States NOR the Confederate States was "purely" of one Party. Ca.1860, the Republican party, as abolitionist advocates pushing for change, became the "liberal" party of the times, upon the ruins of the old Whig Party. Oh. And you seem not to have noticed in your cocoon of vitriol and ignorance, but POLITICAL PARTIES DO NOT TAKE THE FIELD OR FIGHT IN WARS. From what crackpot did you get that silly impression?

Bear in mind, however, urban and northern Democrats have historically been more liberal, and it was the Democratic Party which led the progress in civil rights in the 1960's, which caused the ignorant, bigoted people in the South to "cross over" or "flip flop" and marry their moronic butts to the REPUBLICAN Party. What part of that are you too stupid to understand?

However, the Civil War--and this is what exposes your idiotic analysis--was not fought by parties. The Southern Democrats were at that time very conservative and stayed so until well into the 1960's. However, in your slobber-mouthed ignorance, you neglect to mention that there were Republicans very active in the South, who didn't agree with Lincoln, and the Democrats in the North were far more liberal. Look at Davis's cabinet and you'll find several Republicans/old school Whigs. Do you not read anything? Ditto with Lincoln's associates, many of whom were urban Democrats. You are horribly confused.

Right after Teddy Roosevelt's "progressive" and anti-trust period, the Republican Party shifted radically right. That had to do with their wealthy contributors and sources of graft! That is probably the "flip flop" to which you, in your apparently Limbaugh-induced scum bag delusion, seem to be trying to blame on someone, in your sniveling, stupid, cowardly way.

So, let me put it this way: Nobody is representing the Democratic Party as "1800's Republican"...nor are the right wing slime peddling their reactionary trash as "1860's Democratic".

You're referring to a period of about fifty years, and you lack the framework in which to even BEGIN to define the terms.

What was life like as a teenager in the 70s?

I went through the 1970's as a teenager. Actually it really depended on who you were & exactly where you lived. For a black teenager growing up in say ; the harlem section of manhattan ; life was brutal & dark. But if you were a white middle class teenager living in a middle class neighborhood ; life was actually pretty good. It was a different world back then. I myself grew up in white middle class Connecticut. Our parents were office workers, technicians, scientists, doctors, factory workers, teachers, etc. Our parents had lots of money. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings which our parents used to buy stocks & bonds & nice big houses & nice new cars. I'm talking about the 1973 - 1979 time frame. Our parents, most of whom got married in the late 1950's, were shaking loose the shackles of restraint & beginning to discover their "true self". Or so they thought. They started getting divorced & started doing the "disco thing" every nite after work. Or alot of our parents used to stay late at the office. And alot of our parents were into smoking grass too. But not as much as we did.The cost of living was alot cheaper back then than it is today. Alot of allowance money (i got $5 a day), alot of freedom to do our thing (wear levis jeans & concert shirts to school), hardly any responsibilities>> take out the trash & rake the leaves maybe>>> big deal. Some of us teenagers got discipline by parents, but most of us did not. We were very spoiled. We teenagers really took advantage of the situation. Our parents >>> should have been alot more strict with us. But they were not. I myself belonged to the "stoner crowd". In the late 1960's & very early 1970's it was called the "hippie crowd". After 1973 we were known as "stoners" or "heads". Alot of us stoners never completed high school. A pack of cigarettes was i think 20 Cents if i recall correctly. And a can of coca cola was 20 Cents. We had every convenience at our disposal growing up in middle class connecticut.There was absolutely no excuse for being bored. There was : the library, for the really mellow quiet ones.(us stoners were not quiet), there was : bowling alleys, soda shops, movie theaters, & the roller rink. The roller rink was the real hot hangout spot for alot of us stoners. And there was alot of woods back then for to hang out & get stoned. Alot of us teenagers (yes even some of us stoners) were given a car by our parents on our 16th birthday. I didn't get one, but some stoners in our town did. On the weekends sometimes we would pile into someones car and drive down to the coast & go hang out on long island sound. Back then you could find quiet spots & build a small bonfire. Or we used to go into the woods & hang out there & smoke grass & smoke hash until we dropped. Or we used to hang out at someones house all day from noon or so all the way until 11PM. We used to smoke tremendous amounts of grass. Im talking about smoking about 10 "Lids" or more every day between say 7 or 8 people. A Lid was a large bag of grass (about 1 ounce) that you bought for $10 dollars each. We used to smoke bricks of hash that one guy used to get from his older brother. We used to "cut out" (skip school) to start drinking bottles of southern comfort & smoking hash early in the moning. By the afternoon we started on the grass & usually winded up at someones house until maybe 9PM or 10 PM, etc. We would just keep smoking grass & keep opening up new bottles of southern comfort. On the weekends we used to take Acid & Magic Mushrooms and stay up all night. We had good music back then. Alot of what we listened to was 1960's music. We used to listen to : The Allman Brothers Band, The Outlaws, Cream, Deep Purple, Rare Earth, Jefferson Airplane, Donovan, Grand Funk Railroad, Neil Young w/Crazy Horse. Anytime some of us wanted to sleep over someones house, it usually wasn't too difficult. Alot of times the parents never even realized we were there if we stayed upstairs. About clothing : Every one of us Stoners, both male & female, had very long hair down past the shoulders. We all wore blue jeans & jean jackets>>either Levi's or Lee or Wrangler. And we always wore a cotton flannel shirt underneath the jean jacket in cold weather. And a bandanna or leather hat. We all had like 20 or 30 different concert t-shirts. Dating was very relaxed among us stoners in the 1970's. The girls would break up with their boyfriends every week & then date someone else & then next week break up again and go back to the first boyfriend, etc. etc. etc. No big deal. No one was serious. Very relaxed. A few people found Lasting Love, but for most of us, it was very relaxed & very open. No big deal. Our main primary focus was getting high. You gotta live for today. Because>>> tomorrow may never come.
