Use of backpacks/school bags in history?

Does anyone know the history of bookbags? By that I mean what type of bags were used by kids going to school in the 1930's, 40's, 50's, etc, up to modern bookbags. Pictures/links?

The school satchel was popular in Britain, although most High school kids would have a briefcase like Dad's. My satchel had straps to carry on my back rather than slung over my shoulders. It was very awkward especially when wearing a damp gabardine overcoat.

Donating old school bags?

I have about 25 messenger and backpacks, most of them never used. (bought them on sale and then the school made a no backpack rule) Is there anywhere I can send them to be donated? I really don't want to give them to good will or salvation army is there anywhere that gives school bags to thee needy?

I have been sending school supplies but the kids have no shoes, let alone bookbags. I know it will be a little extra for you to send here but it's well worth it when you realize what a difference you'll be making!

When choosing a high school....?

Do you hate it when people bag the school you have chosen? The one i chose does have a bad rep, but the people that send there kids there are happy. These days people choose new schools. I hate it cause its my choice. I dont bag them.What do you think?

all schools have bad reps, the school im choosing alot of people bag, but the school theyr choosing has a bad rep anyway, tell em to go to hell, ive had enough of people trying to tell me that the school theyr choosing is the best, i hope their kids hate it

High I'm starting high school soon and im like SUPER nervous :(

1. Any tips about remembering where your classes are?

2. Is it true that you can take your book bag into your classes with you?

3. For gym do you HAVE to swim, if so for how long?

4. Are the older kids mean to the freshmen?

5. All of my friends are going to different hs's... I'm not exactly a social butterfly but i'm not scared of people, any tips on how to make friends quick and easy?

6. And.. what was your first day like? lol (:

Lol. Don't worry about high school, it's like middle school except with bigger kids lol xD Well. here's my opinions:

1) you can get a map of the school and just mark or color code them in order. If you don't have a map, just try remember the room numbers, it'll help a lot.

2) Sadly and frankly, no, you can't bring book bags xD. Some schools does, but rarely. Book bags allowed is for college =3

3) I don't think you have to swim. Some people can't even swim! And some are afraid of waters. So, it shouldn't really be mandatory.

4) Haha. Nice question. They aren't really mean, but they do sort of try to show off and tease. But depends on your reputation too =o

5) The best way and easiest way to make friends. Is just by start saying "hi" ^^

6) My first day...lol. Everyone was lost, took forever to get to the right classes. And made some "future to be friends". xD It's LIKE middle school accept, you have more responsibility =o
