school bags for kids reviews image

In elementary or middle school we all remember the girl or guy who developed before the rest of the kids. The girl was usually the center of attention of the boys and the early developing boy was often intimidating and become one of the best athletes.
But, remember what happened to them?
The girl rarely remained the hottest girl in class. The boy rarely remained the best athlete. They were eventually surpassed by kids who developed later.
Do you think the same thing happens with the brain? I remember being in first and second grade with kids who were very strong readers and good at math. By the time I graduated high school with some of the same people, they were still smart, above average, but nowhere near the most intelligent people I know. On the other hand, the most intelligent people Iâve ever met have always had a generally easy time with school, with some exceptions, but took a meandering, up and down developmental path. They were rarely prodigious students who got everything the first time it was taught to them - at least not until they were in their teens.
If you know of any literature on this that would be greatly appreciated.
Answer
Sometimes the smartest person is not the best student.
I think there are two factors in terms of intelligence. There is an innate intelligence and an ability to learn. What makes a person smart is a combination of the two.
My nephew has an amazing memory and has all these absurd facts memorized but he couldn't reason himself out of a paper bag.
As for myself, I was always the smartest kid in class. I was a math wiz in elementary school and won all sorts of competitions. In grade 8 I had finished the grade 11 math program. The following year, in high school now, my grade 9 math teacher wouldn't even look into my claim to have already completed the grade 9 program (never mind 10 or 11) and so the first thee of four years of high school, math was review for me.
Now what was interesting about this, is what I did in math class. I certainly wasn't learning any math, so to keep myself occupied I decided to try and figure out why my classmates had such a hard time understanding what they were being taught. This exercise completely changed the way I thought as I learned more and more about how other people think. As a result, very nearly everything about me changed, intellectually. I think what happened was that I developed my "right brained" thinking until that eventually took over. My non-academic interests changed a fair bit too.
I became a horrible student as this "experiment" was so fascinating it spilled over into other classes. It kind of ruined me in terms of an academic career but I haven't met anyone who has thought quite like me. Most of the really smart people I've met have been specialists, whereas I'm very much a generalist.

Which resort should I stay at Disney World: Grand Floridian or Polynesian?

I really like these two resorts from reading all the reviews and seeing the pictures. I like that they're on the monorail which makes transportation easier. They both have the Seven Seas lagoon and beach. And i read that they both have excellent restaurants as well. The trip is just my girlfriend and I in our 20s and I wanted to know which one of these two resorts to pick.

I love the Grand Floridian. Stayed in room 4322 in Royal Palm Concierge level. We were greeted as we got off the bus and did not have to mess with any line at all (we checked in online in advance). Our view was of the beach and the 24 hour pool. Also, we had a private balcony. 2 bedrails for my 3 year old, were provided in a very short time, after we requested them.
The hotel was clean and always had a sweet floral smell to it. I will warn some of you that at about 3 pm there is a small big band orchestra playing on the 2nd floor. We found the music kind of relaxing to to listen to as we put our son down for nap; and very pleasant to wake from nap. Others might find it as bothersome. Our room was nearly right above the band on the 3rd floor and we were impressed at how well the noise was muffled.
Staying along the monorail route was such a timesaver, especially with a 3 year old in a stroller. We also used the boats and buses to get around and never had to wait too long.
My only complaint was that there was not a self serve wahser/dryer in the main building. I had to walk to another building lugging our dirty clothes around. I was thankful I packed a laundry bag at that point.
We will definitely come back to the Grand Floridian. Hopefully we can stay longer next time!
We stayed for a week at the Polynesian in the concierge wing the first week of May. Everything at the resort is decorated with a tropical island theme. The immaculate grounds have beautiful palms, paths dotted with flowers and a spectacular pool with a volcano water slide. We were greeted with leis when we checked in at the concierge desk. Our room was on the second floor and it was huge! We had two comfy beds and a sleeping couch. The bathroom was spacious and ready with lovely bath products, plush robes and thick towels. Our balcony overlooked the lake and sandy beach with Cinderella's Castle glowing in the distance. We had a front row seat for the nightly electric boat parade.
We LOVED the convenience and quality of the fabulousl food available in the concierge club just down the hall from our room. Breakfast, snacks, hor d'ouerves with beer and wine, dessert with a selection of after dinner drinks, (brandy, etc) were impossible to resist. We enjoyed Ohanu for tropical dining and Capt. Cook's self order service was fun. The Neverland Club was wonderful too. if you are looking for a few hours away from the kids, you can be assured that they will be well cared for and entertained at this dinner club just for them. The Polynesian is a classy, old school elegant resort in a Disney magic way. Everything about adds up to a perfect Disney vacation.
