where can I find a good bag for school?

Chelseamic

I need to find a school bag (under £50) thats preferably leather, big , can carry a lot of books, and is still fashionable but this is the hard part it has to be a backpack or a crossbody satchel thanks

Answer
Try a sports shop. That's where I got my children backpacks with a 5-year guarantee, to use for school. They weren't made of leather, but they were strong and lasted well, even carrying loads of books.

where can i buy a good sized, fashionable school bag?

School bag for high school?

Lauren

Im going to be a freshman in September and i need a new schoolbag. I want a tote thats convenient, as i said im my last question.

Now im debating which one to get:

1) Betsey Johnson quilted handbag tote, $98+

http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/betsey-johnson-handbag-quilted-tote?ID=949307&CategoryID=26846&LinkType=PDPZ1

2) Longchamp le Pliage (large) (not sure which color i want), $145

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/longchamp-le-pliage-large-tote/3241956

Please help! Oh and tell why you think one bag is better than the other. Thanks :)

Answer
If you're going into high school, you definitely need a big roomy backpack or tote! These two are both supper cute and they both look pretty spacious. Personally, I would pick the second bag because I like a simple bag that would go with any outfit and wouldn't stand out all that much. However it looks a little smaller than the other. The first bag looks a bit more big and the color and design is definitely something people will remember you by in the halls! Also, It looks like you can just leave it open which, trust me, is great because when you have all your books in there it'll be hard to zipper up. It all depends on what you're looking for, and I hope these reasons make picking easier! :) Good luck girl

What do you think of this truancy policy introduced to our county (maybe counties)?

Jeanne

1 illegal absence: School attempts face to face

3 illegal absences in a month: School calls C&Y (C&Y refers to Children and Youth, Social Services, Dept of Children and Welfare, etc.) who will then track your child's attendance (at least 2 times a week) for up to (which means ALL) 90 days, 5 days after verbal there will be a home visit, and w/in 10 a "meeting" w/the family, "truant" youth, school district and C&Y to "resolve" truant issues. The info from the meeting to be provided to the school probation officer and any other nosy body. C&Y then "discuss" (or threaten really) what will happen if said behavior continues.

Brilliant, so if you SEND the note in with your child and your child either doesn't hand it in or loses it, you are in for a world of trouble because the school isn't going to bother following up to let you know there was no note. What do you think of that?
Yes, we all have fax machines at our disposal.

*Mind you, I am already preempting this by obtaining an email address of who would be responsible for attendance. It's still discerning that they are enacting such a harsh order, parents lead busy lives and children's irresponsible tendencies aside, we forget about notes ourselves. Should a family be put through what could inevitably turn into "heII" over 3 missed days?

Answer
My son's school is on some fast track to attendance program. If your child's attendance is below a certain % for the term's you are called in to talk with the school.

Also they actually ask for proof if you say your child has a doctors appointments or ill. I have had to provided appointment cards and paper work to which they photocopied and put in my son's file. On one occasion the school called me to come pick up my son early as he was unwell and the next day at 9.30 they where ringing me asking where my son was. Logic people.

Yeah I understand how you feel. I receive a letter telling me I have an appointment with the school in regards to my son's unknown absence, only to find the note is crumpled in the bottom of my son;s book bag.

I can understand they are stamping down on absences and truancy but if a child has an average attendance of 95% and up, there really shouldn't be all this drama over one absence.

Edit: Over here if you don't show up to the meeting they inform social services. You can get prosecuted in the UK and fined up to £2,500 or up to 3 months in prison. Also parents can be fined on the spot £50 if there child is truanting.

Edit: If you don't pay the fine within 28 days it get's increased to £100.

what is a better camera make ?

hi
need a camera for photography which i take at school
what is a better make nikon or Samsung

Answer
If you are speaking of DSLR digital cameras then I would say Nikon but if you are looking for a serious digital camera to learn and grow with then read on:

I think you should invest a DSLR camera. It is an investment but it can be well worth it. DSLR cameras have the larger sensor so you get a higher quality images. You can change lenses which can be valuable, by allowing to adjust to different needs.

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start. No reason to spend more than $425 to $550. Either a 10MP or 12MP will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links, the first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 3 DSLR cameras I am recommending. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras. Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some dealers have some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the âadd to cartâ button to see the actual price.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching:

Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $449
EOS Rebel XS (1000D) 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit w/18-55mm IS Lens - $449
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550

Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand as a factor. Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images.

If you want to stay under $500 then go Nikon or Canon but, I think the Pentax could be of special interest, since it can do HD video and has excellent quality at higher ISO settings which can be useful in low light places and helping get the picture. These features, especially the HD video, on a Nikon or Canon will cost you $100 to $200 more.

If you have any questions and if you think I can be of help then please do contact me.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

What are some basic items for summer/2010/2011 school year?

Angie Fore

I want to look unique but well put together. I'm going to high school this year and I want to go outside my comfort zone.
I dress in skinny jeans and tees but I want some dresses and girlie stuff.
Also should I wear heels?

Answer
well i dont reccomend heels, personally,
i know the kids at my school are always like, "why are you wearing heels, lalalalala??" i get so annoyed i just dont wear them, but feel free to
it depends though, my campus is very spread out. theres over 10 buildings, none of which the numbers coorespond

(1 will be in the front of the school, while 10 is completely diagonally across, with the gym to navigate around. its horribly spaced out)

if its spaced out a lot i dont reccomend it simply because of hurrying up stairs and across the campus to get to class in five minutes(me and my friends had to literally power walk/jog basically every day to get from first to second hour, and we always were at least 15 seconds late despite our best efforts)

right now though id reccomend....
1. maybe a blazer to wear over spagetti strap tanktops and stuff
h&m has good ones, and the miley cyrus/max azria line from walmart has a black one thats more of a t-shirt material. i bought one the other day and that was 14$

2. a fake leather jacket of some sort. you can push the sleeves up too since its not too heavy, and i bought a really cute brown one from h&m two days ago for 49 dollars.
h&m has the style i bought in brown, a very light grey, and black

3. boots. i just love boots personally. i have these in both black and brown and they're really cute on.

http://www.wetseal.com/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=109&subCategoryId=206&productId=30983

4. use over sized purses as your backpack, if you're worried about size you can switch binders to folders for most classes, since a lot of times in highschool teachers tell you that you will need a 2 inch binder, and you only ever keep old graded papers in it (wait a month or so first though to see if you'll need a binder or not for each class)
i reccomend one in black or brown if you want it to match the majority of your wardrobe

5. dresses

6. tank tops

Help for a cool school bag for accesorizing?

I would like a backpack for school that I can put badges on.

A) the bag: I would like it to cover one if not more of these points:

A black and white checkered like vans style
Has to be able to put badges on.
Enough room for books.
Long straps so the bag can lay low and cool on your back.

b) badges. Are there any good places to get Fall out Boy, Paramore or foo fighter badges?

thanks in advance

A survey question for all junior high/high school students: How heavy is your backpack?

Alan S

If you are related to a student, you may answer as well. And please state his (or their) grade, also.

P.S. Also state for how long you carry the backpack around and how much your back hurts (if at all) after carrying it.

Answer
My bag was 22 pounds when I was around 14 years old. It was crazy to lug that much weight to school everyday. It hurt quite a lot in the beginning. Luckily, I didn't have to bear with it for long as my parents bought me an ergonomic bag- it reduces the pressure on the back (if i'm not mistaken) so I wouldn't have to hunch. It was a godsend.

it also has to be big enough to fit books, binders, etc.
one more thing i forgot to say-- I also don't want huge, tacky logos all over it... thanks for your help!

What kind of bag should I get for high school?

AdryNycole

I just finished 8th grade and i'm going into high school next year! So here it goes...

1)What kind of bag should I bring? A backpack or an oversized tote?
2)What kind of tote or backpack?(brand)
3) I had a tote for three days in seventh grade, it hurt like crap but is the cuteness worth it?
*you only have to answer question 4 and 5 if you chose backpack*
4)Are jansport backpacks good for high school or are they too small? We have lockers, so will that lessen what i need to carry?
5) i've been buying backpacks from Tilly's since fifth grade, is there anywhere else i could get a nice backpack from?
6) Also any tips for high school???(;
Thank you! I appreciate any help!
Sorry, but NO rollie backpacks. I don't wanna run over anyone's feet:/

Answer
1) It depends on how much you have to carry, but I suggest bringing a backpack for the first couple of days as that is when you'll get all of your school books. You don't want to be carrying them in your arms all day. After you know what each teacher requires of you to bring (like some of them want you to have separate binders for their class, etc.) you can decide what kind of bag would be ideal to fit everything. But a backpack or oversized tote are usually good enough. I personally like laptop bags sometimes because all the pockets they have are very handy for my school supplies. :)

2) Well, you definitely want something durable. Jansport is best for backpacks. I suggest getting at least two bags you can switch off using because that way they'll last you longer instead of wearing one out too fast by using it all the time. Oh, and if it happens to rain a lot where you live, I definitely suggest getting a backpack made of some rain-resistant material because it's handy when you can just shake off the water and your backpack isn't wet anymore.

3) You will sometimes have to carry your books to school and it can get heavy and too much pressure for one shoulder, so if you can't handle that don't get a tote. Cuteness is so not worth hurting your shoulder for.

4) You're so lucky! I wish my school had lockers! But lockers will not always be helpful as they are times where your class will be so far away from your locker you don't have time to go get your books and then head to class. Jansport is usually good enough, but if you're someone who carries a lot, I suggest looking for a brand that provides bigger sizes or backpacks that can expand. Expandable backpacks are the best because you can make them small when you don't need to carry a lot or make them big when you have a lot to carry!

5) I don't know if you will be able to find this brand in your area, but I suggest looking for a Kipling bag. It might be a little pricy but I have one with that's expandable, rain resistant, thief-resistant (the expandable zipper tricked a lot of people who discovered it wasn't the backpack pocket where all my stuff was; and the zippers are so huge it's hard not to tell when someone is tugging on them), and it's stylish, so I found it much worth the price. If you can't find this brand, it's okay, backpacks from pretty much anywhere can last you. Although my favorite place to buy school bags are places like Target and Office Depot because they sell backpacks that are ideal for school kids.

6) Pay attention in class, study, don't procrastinate, and have fun! Go have fun to your heart's content, but also don't forget to focus on school! Oh, and it's doesn't hurt to befriend office people, teachers, and upperclassmen. ^___^ They can be very helpful sometimes.

Oh, and one more thing, it's pays off to be organized! Organize your backpack so you know where everything is and get a pencil case! It will save you because people always ask to borrow pencils and sometimes forget to return them so it's always nice to have extra pencils and stuff just in case.

Where can i find a Kipling bag?

Q. I'd like a new kipling backpack for school, but i can't find the right thing im looking for. Im looking for one of those messenger bag type bags, but i can't find any that seem really big. I need enough space for some textbooks and binders, & it needs one of those laptop compartments to store a laptop. Ive been looking around on ebay and i cant find anything. I live in the orlando, FL area. If anyone knows where i could find a kipling backpack like this in Orlando, or anywhere online, please give any suggestions. thank you so much! :)

My friend is a target at school?

Q. My parents moved and we ended up in a new city with a new High School. First day I met a really nice guy, and we became friends. But as soon as I started hanging out with him, I noticed things.
Students would bang on the windows when we were in the library, daring him to come out, several of them threating to attack him.

People throw things at him, and if he ever puts his school bag down kids grab it and hide it, or place it the rubbish bins. Iâve seen him take his bag out of the rubbish bin so many times it almost seems normal. We were talking to math once and a huge guy walked in front of us and just slammed into him a wall while his friends stood and laughed.

Iâve been targeted as well but not as much, just small things like throwing paper at the back of my head in class, locking me out of classes when the teachers leave the room and just the usual name talking, like deeming me crazy and whispering about me. But I donât get nearly as much as he does, and thatâs just for being his friend.

I didnât make any sense. He was nice, good looking and smart, a little bitter at times. I asked time what he thought the bullying was about and he put bluntly he thought most of it was just racism. I never have really thought of it that way before.
Sanjay âs parents are from India and came here when his mother was just a few months pregnant with him. Sure, both his parents were born outside of the country but my friend grew up in the same area all of the people in the school did. So I started looking around, nearly all students in this school are white, but surely in a Western modern school racism would not go that far?
So I watched more closely, listened to what people say. They refer to him as a dirty Mexican⦠which is stupid because his parents are Indian and none of his family have been to Mexico.
We can tried telling teachers but because itâs just us against what seems like the majority we are always made up as the bad guys, they make stuff up.

Iâve tried to help him but heâs just quit caring, and I think he may be really depressed. Iâm worried suicide might be on the cards, and as his best friend I donât know what to do. What can I do?
I donât get this racism, why? What can I do?

Answer
This school of yours doesnt happen to be in Australia right? Indians are KILLED almost everyday there, its always on the paper, India student found dead, classmates found guilty! and such stuffs all the time, in Australia i mean. Anywhere it be, i cant believe they still hold on the racism cr*p...A-holes should just roll over and die.... There isn't much you can do actually, if this racism things ends somehow, it can only be by the whole schools support, which am sure wont happen any time soon

oh and when do you get your class scedule

Answer
Hey, its okay trust me, i came from India. Most kids are really nicee! Your locker is for keeping books in so you dont have to carry all of them at one time. You go to your locker in between every hour. As for backpacks, yes carry one! Bring it in the morning with all your homework and books you bring and then just leave it in your locker. Dont worry about a "period" just tallk to your mom about that. It wont be bad, its really not bad at all and maybe even fun.

games 4 pre-school kids?

Catherine

work wiv pre-schoolers, lookin 4 some new games 2 do wiv them... like in circle time or active games... anything like musical statues etc...

i have 12 kids aged 3.

thanks

Answer
this has become my new favorite site
http://www.education.com/activity/all-gr...

a couple good ones for groups of kids include:

ANIMAL EXERCISES
Materials:
1 CD of lively kidsâ music
CD player
At least 3 players

Directions:
This is a very silly and very simple game. Itâs sort of a cross between âSimon Saysâ and âMusical Chairsâ. The rules are simple. When the music starts, the kids will walk around the room, listening for your directions. When you call out an animal exercise, such as âHop like a rabbit!â all the kids need to follow your direction. Each time they hear another direction, they switch their motion. Play continues until the music stops, at which point all kids need to freeze in position. If you catch them moving, theyâre âoutâ. The last kid standing wins the game.

Here are some suggested directions to use:
Run like a tiger
Skip like a kangaroo
Hop like a rabbit
Jump like a frog
Toss like a monkey (when inside, use something soft for this, like a small pillow)
Stretch like a giraffe

ITSY BITSY MAY I
This is a great way to help your little animal get some exercise while practicing his gross motor skills!
Remember the game âMother, May I?â Try this following directions tag game that focuses on gross motor skills to the theme Itsy Bitsy Spider. This game is fun indoors or out. And the more the merrier, since that makes it more challenging, too!

Directions:

Decide who will be Itsy Bitsy. (NOTE: For the first game, it helps to have the adult act as Itsy Bitsy, to give a solid example for others to follow when itâs their turn.) This person is the designated spider. She should stand on the opposite side of the room (if indoors) or across the playground (if outdoors). Itsy Bitsy stays stationary until they reply NO to a request.
Now, choose a base location for the game that is opposite Itsy Bitsy and on a flat surface. This is the starting location for the players and a base to run to in order to be âsafeâ. If youâre playing indoors, a mat makes a good base. Outside, a paper plate does the trick.
Now the game begins. Itsy Bitsy will say a phrase like, âJump six times towards me.â All players respond, âItsy Bitsy May I?â If Itsy Bitsy says, âYesâ, the children move forward, according to the given command (for example, six jumps forward.)
Play continues with Itsy Bitsy giving different orders each time. Stuck on what kinds of commands to give? Try asking kids to run in place, skip, hop, walk backward, gallop forward, slide, or any other movements that work on big muscle coordination.
As the children get closer to Itsy Bitsy, and ask, âItsy Bitsy May I?â the spider may respond, âNo!â at any time. When Itsy Bitsy says âNo!â, itâs a signal that the spider will try to tag as many children possible before they can arrive safely back to base. Whoever is tagged before making it to base sits out until the next game starts.
Itâs important to remember that just as in âMother May I?â, the tag works both ways! Those who make it back to base safely continue to play all the players have been tagged OR until a child tags Itsy Bitsy in her home.
This is a great way for kids to let off some steam, to practice listening to directions, and to get a workout. Make sure you continue playing until everyone has had a turn to be Itsy Bitsy!

WHATS IN THE BAG

How to Play:
For this game you will secretly place an everyday item in a paper bag and then give different clues to your child, who will then try to guess the item. Too often we donât give kids enough thinking time when we ask them for an answer. So be sure to allow them a minute or two between each clue for reflection.

Hereâs how to start. Letâs say you choose to hide your favorite cooking spoon. You might say âIt is made out of woodâ¦â¦. I keep it in the kitchenâ¦â¦ I use it to stir the lemonadeâ¦â¦.Do you have a guess?â If your child gives an incorrect answer, then repeat the clues, leaving time for thinking between each statement, and then add more clues until the correct answer has been reached.

Once your child has guessed correctly, give him the bag and let him look inside. Heâll get a big kick out of seeing the object in person.

At first, kids may have trouble guessing whatâs in the bag. Start them off with a set of very common objects and later, begin adding more unique items. You can do this activity indoors or out. What will seem to your child like nothing more than a fun game is actually a lot more. Because in between all that play, your kid is building problem solving skills that will serve her well in kindergartenâ¦and beyond.

AND I HAVE TO ADD THIS ONE FOR A GROUP LEARNING ACTIVITY
Get ready for a cool activity! Have your child build an ice sculpture that's so fast, fun, and messy that she may not even realize she's learning a lot about science.

Materials:
Plastic containers of different shapes and sizes
Food coloring
Kosher salt and table salt in salt shakers
Turkey baster and container of water
Gloves/mittens
Directions:
Several days before this activity, freeze water in many different plastic containers. For extra interest, add food coloring to some of the water.
Unmold the ice on a table. It's about to get messy and wet, so you might want to do this outside.
Have your child build sculptures with the ice, if there's more than one child challenge them to work together.
Let your child experiment with the salt and water to see how it affects the ice. (Salt helps the pieces stick together and water, well you get the idea.)
Have gloves and mittens available to protect hands.
After your child sees first-hand (literally) how such a simple thing as salt can have such a big effect on ice, she'll be looking at the world wondering how other objects interact. Without even knowing it, she just conducted a science experiment and art project all in one!

Air Bags didn't deploy in 4 flip car accident?

Dillon

'm 16, this morning me, and my 2 friends checked out of school to go eat lunch like most kids do, both of them my age as well, I was going down a road I was unfamiliar with, lost control around a curve, the car, a 2003 ford explorer sport-2 door (not sport trac). The car hit a road sign head on, then being top heavy, flipped 4 times, the seat belts didn't lock for me and the other front seat passenger, my friend in the back didn't have his seat belt on due to state laws, and stupidity, he was ejected, for the record, we are all okay except for a few stitches, we are very lucky but I was concerned because the airbags didn't deploy and the seat belts didn't lock.
okay, get the damn computer, tell me, and ford, the trooper himself didn't even give me a citation for the accident because he was in disbelief, I said the one in the back wasn't wearing a seat belt, up front we was, I am concerned that my vehicle didn't deploy the air bags in an accident that could have and should have been severe, if your so sick to think I am making it up then you have problems.

Answer
The air bags are not supposed to deploy in a roll over collision.

Air bags are NOT nice soft comfy pillows.

They are rough membranes filled with hot gas that deploy at you at hundreds of miles an hour.

The air bags are triggered to deploy by sudden deceleration. Picture: car traveling 35 mph hits brick wall head on.

Since your car flipped 4 times - you did not have the sudden stop. The energy from the collision was disbursed as the car flipped. Air bags do not usually deploy in a roll over.

The brains of the air bag system are under the drivers seat. The Air Bag Control Module recorded the event and determined that it was not appropriate for the air bags to deploy.

Since the only injuries you and your friends have are " a few stitches" then the system did exactly what it should. Most likely the stitches were required because of flying glass and the air bags don't help you with that. Your friend who was ejected was incredibly lucky. It's possible for an ejected passenger to get rolled over by the car, hit objects (suck as trees) and be killed or even be decapitated as they are ejected.

An unbelted passenger who is not ejected can easily break their neck (hang mans fracture) on the roof of the car or even cause injury to the restrained passengers as his body is thrown around the car in the roll over. In a roll over, anything that is not belted down can become a missile and cause injury to the restrained passengers.

As far as the seat belts go - when they lock the don't lock you in the seat. There is still a little bit of play in the belt. When the car goes upside down, your bottom may come out of the seat a few inches. However, you won't slam into the roof of the car and break your neck. You won't get ejected.

A car flipping 4 times is a severe accident. There is no "could have" about it. However, the safety systems in the car performed exactly as they should have and some cuts and bruises are the only injuries.

You lost control of the car in the curve because you took the curve too fast. The posted speed limit is set so that you can travel that curve for the first time and navigate it safely. If you were keeping attention on the roadway and traveling at or below the posted speed limit - this accident should not have happened.

If the trooper did not give you a ticket - then you caught another lucky break. This accident is your fault. Period.

The best thing you can do at this point is to cooperate with your insurance company in the investigation/defense of the accident and to learn from the experience. Never start the car until all passengers in the car have buckled up. Make sure to drive with in the speed limit. And don't try to do other things while driving- that includes no texting, talking on the phone, messing around with your passengers etc. And of course, never drink and drive.

Answer
1) Should gov look into your kids lunch bag? What is this- communism? No

2) Should gov decide or evaluate food inside homemade lunches? No, I'm pretty confident in my parenting skills, and I trust others to do the same.

3) Should gov give kids food - including milk or meat - if they think that the child needs that even if a family is vegans and give their child a meat/milk alternative? No way, unless of course we are talking about china where that kind of intervening is accepted.

4) Do you think government is intruding? Yes, they seem to think they are the parents of all these kids.

5) Do you think there should be public schools fordifferent needs suchas Libertyschools that teach self-reliance and dependency/gov intervention schools? That actually a really good idea. I was raised by a single-non-working mom and whoa, I sure was surprised that health care, food, and shelter isn't free when I moved out.

6) Do you want your kids lunch bag to be reviewed to see if it meets FDA stds? Not by anyone that isn't me.

totes for school???!!!?

Q. i'm a 13 year old 8th grader that goes to this really small country school and for next year my teachers are trying this new thing that we are not allowed to go to our lockers in btw classes so we have to carry all of our books with us..... so do you think i should get a tote to carry my books... and if so what should i look like????

Answer
If your school will allow you to do it, the rolling suitcases or totes on wheels are a healthier way to move a heavy load. In recent years doctors have seen a significant rise in back problems in kids your age or a little older, and it seems connected to carrying lots of heavy books. If your school won't allow you to pull your books, use a proper backpack (and show your teachers the article below). Sorry to say, tote bags are the cutest solution but also the one that's the worst for you. Save them just for lightweight stuff.

I need help picking a school bag!?

pensive

I live a mile from my high school. I have a lot of stuff to carry to school in my tote bag (textbook, folders, notebooks, lunch, water bottles, makeup, wallet, cell, ipod, etc...) plus a separate bag for my gym workout stuff (tennis shoes, shorts, shirt, socks...) I have to take both bags with me because I go to the gym on the way from school.....

Thus, I have to carry a lot of crap everyday. Are there any affordable, practical, sturdy tote bags (or very stylish backpacks--a la Princess Diaries) that have a lot of comparments that I can use? And what can I use for my gym stuff?

Thanks in advance!

Answer

I'm going to a new school this fall that requires us to have macbooks. it is going to be a much smaller school than i was used to. goin from 4500 kids to 500 kids haha so i'll probably be able to stop at my locker pretty often to change books. but i am looking for a bag that is either a messenger bag or a backpack. I would rather it be designer or some type of higher brand. price doesn't matter. it just needs to be sturdy and protect my laptop. and of course stylish haha obviously i'm a girl. If you could post links or give me some sites i should check out that would be great. i've alrady looked at vera bradley and coach

messenger bag for school?

Chris Summ

ill be starting school soon and i dont wanna look like a dork the way i did in highschool with my backpack, so im thinking about a messenger bag/sling bag. i would prefer something that sits diagonally at the back, and i want something that nothing will fall out of when i'm running around with it like that. any suggestions?

Answer
I would go to the school and see what all the other kids are carrying. Each school is different as to what the "in" thing is. If you do not want look like a dork, find out what others use so you can blend in and stop worrying about something falling out. Just close it up or zip it up. Good Luck Visit the campus and see how others are dressed too and then you will make wise choices. Everything does not have to be bought before you get there

How can online stores selling fakes legally operate?

33mutti

How is it possible that some online stores sell designer purses that they claim to be 100%authentic even if they are "knock-offs"? Isn't that false advertising? Why does not anyone shut them down? Isn't there a "police" for that? I naivly bought a purse from on online store who claimed to have the real deal, but after reading up on them I am not sure anymore. I did pay a pretty penny which I why I thought that's the price for the real deal minus the overhead. There is a mailing address on their website, which I think is pretty bold. Is there any way to find out if my purse is real?

Thanks a bunch!

Answer
That's a very interesting question and very difficult to answer. The sale of illegal counterfeits i s difficult to prosecute because these website are always off shore operations, and they are subjected to different laws. There isn't international co-operation insofar as web business is concerned. If the factory is based in one place, the website in another, the shipper somewhere else and the purchaser in a different country then whose law followed? The maker? The seller? the buyer? This is where international law enforcement has problems as the laws vary widely from country to country. In the US buying isn't illegal, but shipping them overseas is, so many of these bags will be stopped at the borders. The US is cracking down on known manufacturers of these goods.

How is it possible? These fakers don't see what they are doing as wrong. Sadly in China; they simply don't care that they are doing something that's wrong everywhere else in the world. One of YA most notorious counterfeit sellers/spammers saw him/herself as doing a good deed, a public service, thinking that he/she was offering the covetous with the object of their desires at a fraction of the price, not comprehending that they were doing something illegal.

They use words like "mirror image" and "authentic replicas" so they make it sound like what they are doing is less distasteful. Authentic replica makes it sound like the original designer gave their okay to these knock offs, when that's simply not true. Many designers have lower priced lines, but they will never advertise their low end lines as authentic replicas.

Because much of this is overseas, it's difficult to prosecute these people. Interpol is working with many different countries to stop the trade of counterfeits, but as long as people want something expensive without being willing to pay full price, then these people will operate from where ever they can.

Luxury goods are expensive and they are exclusive. They aren't cheap, and never will be. They aren't meant to be owned by ordinary people or high school students or suburban housewives. They are meant to be owned and affordable to the very rich. If everyone had them or if they were widely available, they would no longer be exclusive luxury items. They'd be like Gap sweatshirts. No one knocks off Gap sweatshirts.

To protect yourself: If it seems too good to be true, it is. No one sells things at lower than wholesale, no one sells at a cost less than what it takes to make something. Most luxury goods are sold through the stores affiliated with the label so the purchaser knows they are getting something authentic.

The sellers of fakes feed off of covetousness and want and desire. They prey on the insecurities. They hope that people are willing to do anything for something they can't really afford. My personal take is: Yes that designer purse is gorgeous and would look great with my new dress, and I would love to have it, but I don't have the money and never will so I simply forget about it. But many don't, many think that a purse will make them popular or more chic or any number of things...and these fake sellers prey on that.

I always submit fake sites to the real place. LV has a webform for sending links to fake sellers, so does Tiffany, so does Chanel. Many sites have e-mail contacts. Some site will send a thank you form letter, some don't. One place sent a personalized thank you to me. They do what they can when they find these places, again because many of theses counterfeiters are international, they can only do so much.

The only solution is to not only boycott fakes, but for everyone to change their priorities in fashion. That designer bag doesn't make you a better person, nor does it make you look better, it does not dress up cheap outfits nor does it make you more fashionable. There are plenty of non status label handbags, sunglasses, that are affordable and far nicer looking. And with the money you didn't spend on that one item, you can buy other items you will enjoy far more than that purse.

Which laptop is a better buy?

Answer
look it all depends on what u are using this cpu for. (gaming, work, school, internet searching, multimedia entertainment) Tosheiba is one of the best affordable companies, but if you can save the money get an alienware. They are the leading pc designers with hardware like quad processors, terabyte memory, 8 gig ram, up to 4 g/hrz processing...The addition of games and software is a huge waist of space and not something you should take into consideration when looking for a pc. alienware pc's wont go out of style like most cpu's in a few months, they will last years.

Questions about American High Schools?

IckyyxxD

So I'm from Australia, and I wanted to know the differences between my Australian school and an American school for a story I'm writing.
so I just have a lot of questions about american highschools:
** i realise that most schools will be different, so if the answer depends on the school, just write what happens at your own school (:

1. Do you have uniforms?
2. Do you have sport uniforms?
3. Do you have a normal locker AND a sport locker?
4. What are you year levels, and how old are the students in each level? (we have years 7 - 12, are yours different?)
5. What time does school start?
6. Are you allowed to leave the school grounds during lunch without permission?
7. Do you have any breaks between classes? (we have a break 2 classes before lunch)
8. Does everyone have lunch at the same time?
9. Do you have the same timetable everyday?
10. Are your study periods like a free period, or do you actually have to go to a room and study?
11. How long do your classes last for?
12. What are all the possible subjects you can do?
13. Do you have multiple buildings, or are all the rooms in one building?
14. How many floors do the buildings usually have?
15. What is the numbering system for classrooms? (
15. Can you go to your lockers whenever you want? (we have rules about when we can go get books from out locker, so we usually have to get books for two classes)
16. Are you allowed bags inside classrooms, or do you keep them in your locker?
17. What is a normal detention like?
18. Do you pay for the food at the cafeteria in school fees, or do you pay when you get your food like at a restaurant?
19. When are your holidays? (we get 2 week holidays after a 10 week term, and then a 6 week holiday at the end of a year)
20. When does your school year start?

Answer
1. No
2. Yes
3. Yes but the sports lockers are much smaller
4. We have kindergarten ( age 5) through 12th grade (age 18)
5. 8:05 am
6. Until you are in 10th grade, no. After tenth, yes.
7. A 3 minute passing period between each class and a 12 minute break at about 10 am.
8. At my school, all sixth and some seventh graders eat at 6th period. Some seventh and all eighth eat at 7th period which is at 1 pm.
9. At my school yes. In high school many schools have the same schedule every other day. So they have A schedule for odd calander days and B schedule for even days.
10. We have to go to a classroom and we have 30 minutes to do homework/study/ read/ draw. We're not really supposed to talk but they're a little more layed back than other periods so were allowed to talk quietly as long as we're still on task.
11. 45 minutes
12. I take Math, honors English, honors science, advanced drama, Spanish, newspaper, study hall, health, geography and p.e.
13. At my school, one building

I'm making kindergarten gift bags for the kids, any ideas on what to put into them?

gendermcmu

Or any cute ideas on how to make them?

Answer
Don't put candy! I've seen parents with kids that age go flat out ballistic when their child was given even one or two pieces of candy.

I would suggest that the bag be an actual small tote bag (about $1 at most craft stores) or some kind of of cup. You can get ones with cartoon characters on them at the dollar store, or you could use pencil cups. Then, since it's Kindergarten maybe some school supplies. A couple novelty pencils, rules, erasers in fun shapes, glue-sticks, and crayons. You may want to use "filler" (explained below), if you do I would sugggest tinsle, easter grass, or save and shred the sunday comics.

As for making them
If you're using a tote bag: Put a small handful of filler into the bag. This is partly for looks, partly to hold the items in place, and partly to help lift the items up so it looks nicer. Now put pencils, rulers, and other long/tall items at the "back" and arrange the other items up coming closer to the "front." Sprinkle any small items (like the shapped erasers I mentioned) around the other items to help fill up any gaps. Using a length of curly ribbon (or several contrasting colours) tie the handels together and present them just like that.

If you're using cups: arrange the filler and items the same way as with the tote bag. Center each one on a sheet of tissue paper (bright primary colours would look great, or some dollar stores have white tissue paper with bits of conffettie in it). Bunch the paper up at the top, over the items, and tie with curly ribbon.

Just as a note; all of the items I mentioned can be found at a dollar store or in large packages you can easily split up at places like Target.

Good luck, it's a cute idea!

school bag question!!!!!?

Q. okay so I would like to know what kind of school bag I should get.
Okay so about my school we don't carry around our bags and backpacks cause we're not allowed too.(security issues)And we have full length lockers if that makes a diffrence.I really like the hollister/abercombie/aero tote bags. But i don't know if i should get something like a roxy or billabong backpack. Also I wanted to know what you guys thought of large aero tote bags and useing the same one 2 years in a row.Or if useing the same one is a totally NOT!I think it mite be a not since my school is full of fashionistas.Anyways please answer!!!!

Answer
Who gives a damn about fashionistas. They are stuck up people who spend more money than necessary to follow trends that won't be "in" withing 5 months.

If you walk home or ride a bus, get a real backpack. It can get heavy when your science teacher assigns homework & your math teacher wants a bunch of papers done & your english teacher expects you to have a paper the next day.

I personally think Roxy & Billabong have cuter bags than Hollister. & you can use the same bag for all four years of HS if you want.

Sleeping Bags:

It could be fun to sort yourselves into houses here are a few online sorting hats: (take a look an see which one you like best (some are more obvoius what answers get what house)

http://www.timidity.org/tests/sortinghat.html
You can find more of these by googling "Sorting hat quiz)

Planning the party:

Two to three weeks before the party begins:
Make Wizard Maps for invitations. Round the edges of parchment paper with scissors. Write the party details to Hogwarts School (AKA your house), using invisible ink felt pens (available at the craft stores). Roll the invitation into cylinders, insert into mailing tube, along with a decoder pen, and mail to Muggles.
Begin preparing the props, costumes, and decorations (see below).

Party Set-Up - A few hours before the party:
Welcome the guests with a sign at the front door that reads "Platform 9 3/4."
Decorate your party room like the Great Hall at Hogwarts School.
Make "snitches" by spray painting Styrofoam or rubber balls gold, then glue feathers on each side, and hang them from the ceiling.
Cover the walls and ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars, moons, and lightning bolts.
Set out stuffed toy owls, broomsticks, magic wands, and potions (candy-filled bottles).
Cover the table with a paper cloth featuring stars, moons, and lightning bolts, and add matching paper products.

More game ideas:
Play a version of Quidditch, Harry's favorite game, by providing the kids with a ball, some broomsticks, and a large area to play in. Divide the group into two teams, set up two goals on either side of the yard, and have the kids try to brush the ball over their own goal line.

Have a Harry Potter Trivia Contest and ask questions based on the book - or a 'Who Said What?' game based on Harry Potter quotes.

Have a Flavor Bean Tasting Contest. Buy a variety of jellybeans and place them in small paper cups covered with foil so they aren't visible. Pass one cup around at a time and have each player taste a jellybean without looking at it. Players must try to identify the flavors. You still I think can find actual bertie botts flavored jelly bellies at Barnes & Noble

Make Potter's Magic Potion by combining 2 cups white glue and 1 1/2 cups water together. Add a few drops of food coloring. In a separate container, dissolve 2 teaspoons borax in 2/3 cup warm water and mix well. Mix the borax and glue solutions together, and let the kids watch what happens to the mixture. Pass out handfuls and let the wizards work their magic. Wear smocks for this activity - it's messy, but fun!

Create your own own Wizard Capes and Magician Caps. For capes, cut length of inexpensive silky lining fabric and let the kids decorate it with felt-tip pens, glue-on glitter, and decals in the shape of stars, moons, and lightning bolts. For caps, give them lengths of felt, cut into rectangles. Fold the felt into a cone shape, staple it closed, trim off a straight edge, and decorate with glue-on sequins, glitter, puffy paints, and decals.

Serve Cauldrons of Snacks and Wash them down with Magic Potions:

Buy a plastic cauldron or use a black pot for serving the food. Fill it with soup, macaroni and cheese, or beef stew.

Serve "magic potions" in plastic goblets. Offer multicolored drinks - red, blue, green, orange - for added fun. Called them Rum-Runners.

Offer the guests a variety of Harry Potter snacks and treats - Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans (assorted jelly beans), Fizzing Whizbees Levitating Sherbet Balls (green and orange sherbet balls), Droobles Best Blowing Gum (blue gum), Creepy Chocolates (in the shape of frogs, bats, and rats), and Peppermint Humbugs (peppermint candies.)

Make Harry Potter cookies using a Harry Potter shaped cookie cutter.

Provide Harry Potter desserts, such as apple pie, trifle, jam donuts

Hope this list is helpful to you.

If im 13 how can i get a part time job?

Im 13 and im looking for a partime job after or b4 school. i dont want to go on with mowing or babysiting, thats not what im looking for. if u have any ideas or preferable links it would be a great help

Answer
If you have a convenience store in your neighborhood maybe you can talk the owner into letting you bag ice, or sweep and mop stock their soda coolers, clean their windows etc. A man in my town runs a junk shop and sometimes pays kids to sort through stuff, clean up messes, show people where things are in the shop. If you find this kind of a job though, keep in mind that you will not get minimum wage because you are not legally old enough to work. They will be paying you unofficially.

Also, I found some links that may work for you:
