I've only read the Hunger Games and I haven't seen the Battle Royal, so of course my answer on which is better is the Hunger Games. (I'll probably read Battle Royal as soon as I can find the book.) I've heard that what Suzanne Collins wrote in the Hunger Games is just a rip off of Battle Royal. It's not a complete rip-off, but the two are VERY similar.

First, I'll point out the main thing that makes the two different.

In the Hunger Games (HG), Teenagers are being forced to compete in the Hunger Games for the entertainment of citizens of The Capitol. Also, the games are held annually as a lesson to the districts punishing them for an uprising that they attempted almost 75 years ago.

In Battle Royale (BR), Teenagers in (I think) one particular 7th grade class are sent on what they believe to be a school trip. During the bus ride, they're gassed and fall asleep. When they wake up, they're in an orientation room and told that they have to fight to the death. This is a program brought in by the Japanese goverment because they believe that the children have become too unruly and disrespectful. This is also an annual event.

Other differences:
- HG takes place in what used to be North America, likely hundreds of years into the future while BR is pretty much modern day Japan.
- HG usually has 24 tributes participating in their games. BR has about 46 (depending on the size of the class)
- HG is aired on television, BR is not.
- HG tributes have to run toward the cornucopia to obtain weapons. In BR, each student is given a random backpack with a random weapon or device.
- When a tribute is killed in HG, a cannon goes off and faces of the dead are displayed up in the sky. In BR, the class teacher simply announces who has died every 8 hours.
- The general public are aware of the HG, but students seem to be somewhat in the dark about the existence of BR.
- If you win the HG, your district is rewarded with extra food. There is no reward for winning BR (except keeping your life).
- There is no stated time limit for completing the HG, but in BR, there must be one person left remaining after a set amount of time otherwise EVERYONE has their head blown off by their neck-brace tracking device.

As for the similarities:
- both HG and BR have a sort of love-story element
- both involve teenagers fighting to the death
- both have arenas or battlefields that have environmental risks if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. HG is more advanced on this point likely due to them being so futuristic.
- HG dresses up their tributes and puts them on parade and offers training and interviews, etc. BR does none of this, hence why it's not televised.
- Both have endings that you sort of expected.

Overall, HG is a much more complex story. A lot more layers than Battle Royale. Outside of the fact that there are teenagers fighting to the death, there is a whole lot more to Hunger Games.

Also, there's a difference between "laminating sheets" or pouches (which are used with pressure and heat) and just the self-adhesive sheets of clear plastic sold by the small or larger box at office supply stores which can also be used in the general definition of "laminating" ---these would be the equivalent of having an 8 1/2 x 11" sheet of clear packing tape, with a removable backing sheet stuck to it.
I always have a box of these around because they come in so handy for many little laminating jobs.

To use one of these over a small cardstock/paper/plastic card while still leaving a border of clear lamination on all sides, one way to do it would be to:
...Cut a rectangle from the plastic sheet (still on its backing paper) that's a little wider than the width of the card (long edge), and twice as long as its short side plus a little more.
...Peel off the backing sheet and lay the adhesive plastic down sticky side facing up.
...Place the card on the plastic near the bottom but with a bit of a margin left.
...Then carefully fold the rest of the clear sheet down over the card *leaving a margin at the top where the sticky sheet will stick only to itself*... kind of roll it down so you won't get any wrinkles you can't smooth out with a fingernail.
...Now trim away with scissors any of the extra lamination you don't want on the 3 non-folded sides, and run a fingernail or butter knife around the margins next to the card to completely seal it in.

You can also do this *without leaving any excess lamination* around the edges by folding the lamination sheet tightly to the card in the foldover step, and trimming away *all* the excess clear sheet, but that may leave the very edges susceptible to water, etc.


You can then punch a hole in the lamination border only, or in the card-and-lamination area, with a hole punch then add a ball chain or some kind of cording, etc.

I've done this kind of thing before often, and it works well.

P.S. If actual packing tape is wide enough for what you want and you have some around, it can be handled and cut more easily if you lay a long piece of it onto waxed paper first (which substitutes for the backing paper of purchased laminating sheets).

What is high school like for an incomimg freshman?

I'm a little nervous for some reason but I don't know why. I was sort of at the top in middle school. I was nice and talked to everybody so I was known by almost everyone. I wouldn't consider myself "popular" though. I know high school will be different so do you have any tips for freshman and for my next 4 years in high school?

1. Say hi to the person sitting next to you in each of your classes.
2. Go in with a positive attitude
3. Get to know your teacher's school emails so you can submit papers, ask questions etc.
4. Don't be embarrassed or afraid to raise your hand to ask questions.
5. If you fall behind make sure you get help right away because then you will fall so far behind you'll have a hard time getting back on track.
6. Buy a whiteboard/ cork-board for your room or one of those wipe off wall stickers, and write down the due dates of assignments, long term projects, extended homework, group work, trips anything important.
7. Buy a mini whiteboard for your locker or a few magnets and write down the same things.
8. If you have no one to sit with at lunch sit alone, someone will come over to you :)
9. Get the phone number of someone in each of your classes for homework etc.
10. Take notes.
11. Keep your notes organized!!!!

12. You don't need a boyfriend to make you happy.
13. Don't ever lose a friend over a boy.
14. Getting into fights is not cute
15. Be assertive not to nice, not to mean.
16. Don't let people tale advantage of you.
17. If you happen to go out with an upperclassmen be careful. If a senior is after you they usually do want one thing. Now this doesn't mean that you have to stay away because there are very nice guys too.
18. You are not in love with someone after a month.
19. Juniors and seniors will leave you alone for the most part, sophomores are a different story.
20. Never go to a party alone. EVER
21. Unless you can drive don't have a friend suggest driving you to and from somewhere unless you know 100% there is a designated driver or your friend will not drink. ( yes high school parties have drinking)
22. Don't do drugs
23. Surround yourself with positive people
24. Join clubs, teams and things you like because you like it not to fit in.
25. Always make time for friends
26. Even best friends let secrets go, be mindful of what you tell who.
27. Don't listen to or spread rumors. Your eyes are the witness of the truth
28. If you have a problem talk it out. Tell your friend but ideally find an adult whom you trust completely to talk you through what's wrong.
29. Having a relationship with your parents is important.
30. Someone, somewhere will have a problem with you. Be the bigger person and ignore it.
31. Don't start drama, high schools more fun that way.
32. Girls can be mean.
33. Have pride, and dignity in yourself.
34. The girls that are sluts and get all the attention usually have self esteem issues.
35. People get pregnant, things happen, so protect yourself and never abandon a friend who is going through this.

The best punching bag I ever found is the BOB, the Body Opponent Bag. Basically its a punching bag that is freestanding. The base is filled with water to keep it in place, but still give it some motion. The top is molded to resemble the torso of an adult man. It is extremely durable and gives to more realistic targets then pounding away at a cylindrical punching bag. After all let's face it, how often are you going to fight an opponent that's shaped like a perfect cylinder.

Have you asked if your school will lend you an extra set of textbooks to leave at home? Then you can have one to keep at school and another to use in doing homework. A lot of schools are allowing this option because so many children are damaging their backs.

Otherwise, see if you can purchase extra copies of the books to keep at home. Then you should be able to get rid of most of the weight.

Also, some students use rolling bags, like the kind that pilots and stewardesses and other frequent travellers use for their carry-on luggage on airplanes; they have wheels and a handle that can be pulled out to use or pushed in to save space. They may be a bit pricey, but it is much easier to push that weight around than it is to lug it on your back.

For the future, you might suggest that your school look into getting copies of textbooks on CDs for students to use at home. I know some kids who have classes where there are textbooks that are kept in the classroom for classroom use and the students are given the choice of a heavy textbook or a CD to use at home for homework. You might try suggesting that idea to the schoolboard. (They may really like it if you mention that it will lessen the likelyhood of them being sued for injuring some poor student's back from such heavy loads.)

We are a church youth group planning on going to Oaxaca, Mexico to work on building a school. Its VERY important to us. We need to raise approx. 1000 per kid. If you have and ideas on fundraising events, or and businesses that may be willing to sponsor us. Please, let me know.

My son's French club raised $1,066 per student for a trip to Quebec City by selling 6-inch hoagies (subs) for $3.50 each. The sales were phenomenal. Nearly everyone asked was happy to purchase a sandwich. At $3.50, this was something affordable to all. On the day the sandwiches were to be distributed, the students gathered in the school cafeteria to make them assembly-line style, which took only 2-3 hours. This is one of the most successful fundraisers we have ever participated in.


Another popular fundraiser is a cookbook sale. Perhaps the women of your church could help in soliciting and gathering recipes, with an equal amount from total sales being deposited in each child's account. This would also work well for church bake sales, quilt raffles, rummage sales, spaghetti dinners, etc.

The members of a local church are often seen in front of our Walmart selling bags of various flavored Tootsie Rolls for $2 each. They do this each year, to fund trips to South America.

Another successful fundraiser in our area has been the ever-popular candy bar sales through a local candy maker. Ask at your school for the names of the candy salesmen they use. We also have a pizza shop that participates in $5 cheese pizza sales, as well as a convenience store that offers coupons for a sandwich, chips and drink for $5. As with the hoagie sales, these are enormously popular. Check with the pizza shops and convenience stores in your area to see if they offer similar fundraising opportunities.

Last but not least, a local public school teacher found her calling in Uganda, where she eventually settled to set up an orphanage. Through the generous donations of the students who deposited the change from their lunch money into a jar each day, an orphanage, clinic, and school were built and furnished in just over three years. Where there's a will...

A few idea's:
Okay so most girls at my high school use big bags like you said because we have to bring our gym clothes, after school clothes (sports), lunches, ect.
So i bring on the days i have no after school activites and no gym class my vera bradley bookbag. I carry it and then when i go to lunch my lunch is in it, along with my normal things in my purse.

Another idea would be an across the chest bag. I have a coach one. They are around 100 dollars and are very in. you can put just the few things you need need in it for the day if you do not want to bring a purse. A lot of girls not just at school but in magazines ect. are using these.


Finally there is the big bag. Victoria Secrets Pink is a brand we all use. I have a Marc Jacobs one i caught on sale. American Eagle, Hollister, or Forever 21 will have one also that is trendy.

As far as the backpacks go we all use Northface. They are 100 to 200 dollars and are very in. you can order them online or get them from a sporting goods store like Dick's ect.

I ended up buying a billabong bag, it was about $60.00, but it has a simple design, but still looks cool. You should know that showbags aren't widely known or used outside of Australia and New Zealand, so the responses you get here might be limited. Also, I haven't heard of the book and don't know how widely known it is. I did a little reading up on it, and I did a similar project when I was in school and thought it was a lot of fun. I suppose with this book (knowing only the little I do from outlines I found online) you could easily throw in stereotypical fairy stuff, but it would be better to individualise it.

The outlines I read online said the book had a romance. Did the characters give each other gifts or tokens that were important to the plot that you could replicate easily with supplys from the art and craft store? Look at what the major turning points were in the story and try to include something that symbolises or represents those moments - this will help you to get high marks, because it shows a good understanding of the text.

I need £2,500 to go on a school trip to New Zealand in 20 months Time. I'm 14 years old. Any ideas?

How,to stop getting bags under My eyes in the morning?

Well usually getting a good nights sleep helps ,but if thats not a option, try one of these:

Step 1
Place a wet washcloth in the freezer before bed. Even if you are only going to get a few hours of sleep, remember to place a washcloth in the freezer--your eyes will thank you in the morning. When you wake up, take the washcloth out of the freezer, place it on your forehead and eyes and lie down. Leave the washcloth on for approximately five minutes.

Step 2
Place cold tea bags on your eyes. Rinse two new teabags in cold water for approximately 30 seconds. Place the tea bags over your closed eyes for approximately 10 minutes, then throw the tea bags away. The tea bags might stain your eyes, so wash your eyelids thoroughly with water after taking the tea bags off. The tannins in the tea bags will reduce swelling, and the moisture of the wet tea bag will absorb into your eyes.

Step 3
Apply cucumber slices to your eyes. After using the tea bags, give your eyes a zap of moisture by placing two slices of cucumber over your closed eyes. Cucumbers are high in water content and will soothe the bags under your eyes while they moisturize. Leave the cucumber on your eyes for 15 minutes, then throw the slices away.

Step 4
Apply aloe underneath your eyes. Before putting on makeup or any moisturizer, apply a small coating of fresh aloe to the bags under your eyes. Break a leaf from a fresh aloe plant, and remove some of the gel from inside. Using your fingers, gently rub the gel into the bags under your eyes until they are absorbed completely. Aloe is a natural source of moisture that will soothe and protect your eyes.

Step 5
Moisturize under your eyes. Use a moisturizer such as Leah Day Aloe Eye Gel to moisturize and protect your eyes throughout the day. Place a small amount of aloe eye gel on your pinkie and dab gently around your eyes. The gel will cool and moisturize your eyes all day and prevent the eye bags from returning.

1. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. Yet another benefit of that daily chug of h20 is dark circle reduction. If you can't break away from the caffeine habit, this is even more important. Water helps keep toxins out of your cells making them healthy and vibrant.

2. Make sure you're getting that multivitiman. B-vitamins, iron, and Vitamin E are essential for healthy skin. Your dark circles will disappear after just a few days with a vitamin E boost.

I'm a member of the Salesianum swim team. We're the best team in DE. My goal this year is to get my 50 free time under 30. Please suggest some good gear. Don't recommend any suits because I have to wear the team suit.

Hi. We are the best tem in OH. haha. Actually, 4th, but who's counting.

At the beginning of the season, our coach makes us buy a few things. Kickboards, paddles, and fins, and a bag to put them in.

The kickboard, for obvious reasons.

The paddles, for shoulder strength. They really help. They go on your hands and you swim (or pull with a poolboy). They add resistance to your arms and build up strength specific to your stroke style. Like, my shoulders do not do a lot of the work in my stroke, just my muscles. I use the paddles for 10 x 200 pull and the next day, I cant move my shoulders bc it worked them so much.

Fins, for your kick. You dont use them with a kickboard though. You go one length of the pool underwater and with the fins, your muscles will get benefit. Underwater makes the resistance more. You also go fast and its fun.

I have an essay due about why we should get the school rules changed about school bags and i came up with that reasong but i need examples to help support it.

If they 'allow' this it will:

1: Save time - as students will not be constantly going to get books from a locker.

2: It will allow students to organise their bags in the morning so that all that they need is in the bag.

3: They can leave some items in their locker and carry some so their bags are not too heavy.

4: If children are taught how to carry bags/backpacks correctly on their backs then certain problems will be alleviated.

How to carry your bag correctly:
Dr. Skaggs suggests the following to alleviate back pain caused by carrying too heavy a load in a backpack:

* ALWAYS USE BOTH SHOULDER STRAPS: "It's important for children to use both shoulder straps instead of simply slinging the backpack over one shoulder," Dr. Skaggs says. "Using one strap can cause children to walk improperly and places all the load on one shoulder."

* PACK CORRECTLY: Dr. Skaggs recommends that heavier books and items be packed closest to the back so that the center of gravity is near the center of the pelvis. Secondly, he reminds children to not pack so that there are sharp comers. "A load on the shoulders will naturally cause you to lean forward," he said. "That's why it's important to distribute the weight evenly."

* SELECT THE BACKPACK THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU: "The standard two-strap backpack is good for light loads. For heavier loads, a backpack with a hip belt takes the load off of the shoulders and distributes it to the pelvis and hips," Dr. Skaggs said. Dr. Skaggs also recommends selecting a backpack that has a well padded area that touches the back and shoulders so sharp corners will not cause discomfort by sticking into the back.

I agree with the other answers. Also if you search "college packing lists" you will get some sites by stores as well as other colleges. I printed up the best list and then scanned others and added. A lot does depend on the roomate, if you have a car, where your school shuttle will take you, if parents can take you after you get there, and how far you are from home and how you are getting there. The lists will help as often kids take for granted what Mom has at home. Hint, prepack your vehicle a bit if you can. Being a female, you'll have a lot more than most guys pack. Bedding takes a lot of room. You may want those air bags or to have your items shipped through a store to a branch store near your campus-or just buy stuff when you get there. Rather than all suitcases you might buy 1 or 2 plastic drawers if they'll fit in your vehicle and pack your daily basics. My daughter-a freshman LOVES the laundry basket I found(Walmart?) It's tall like a kitchen paper basket with a lid and two back wheels and a pull out handle. It's much easier to handle . We also found a bookcase who's sides fold in. Check and see if your school posts room sizes or layouts on their housing website. Best of luck!

How can I make my school uniform look indie/vintage?

Hello!
So I go to a secondary school in London, and I'm 15. My school uniform consists of a grey skirt, black tights/socks, black shoes, white shirt, black jumper, black blazer and a purple tie.

I already have black brogues, wear one ring (which is from India) every day and have two lobe piercings on each ear. I have long, brown, curly hair, and my everyday makeup is winged eyeliner and nothing else.

My school have just told me to get rid of my bag as it is not black. I prefer backpacks as I have to walk to and from school everyday and they are more comfy. If you have any links to vintage-looking relatively cheap black backpacks, I will be extremely grateful :)

So basically what I'm asking is how can I look more indie/vintage with a school uniform? Like ideas for different accessories and how to have my hair and whatnot. I'm not saying I will completely follow everything you suggest because I'm not that kind of person, I'm just looking for ideas. Any links to pictures/items for inspiration would be much appreciated.

Anyway, if you want a vintage look, buy a long dangling locket/clock necklace. If the eiffel tower is on it, bonus points. Also, the eyeliner is a great start! If you're bold, (and have felxible parents) do a bright red lip. Try NYC in Retro Red, I know you can get it in the states at any drugstore (cvs rite aid walgreens etc). Not sure about london. its 99 cents tho. If your parents are not for it, try the Burts Bees Lip Shimmer in Cherry. It is red, but more sheer to give the illusion of a redder lip but still appear natural.

How Do I Get My Bad Bus Driver Fired?

I have a really bad bus driver at my school. He will swear at us and sometimes he looks drunk. He almost crashed into a tree and almost hits pedestrians. One time food was falling out of a kindergardeners backpack so he threw the kids backpack away. Everyone on our bus complains to our teachers, and our parents. The teachers always say "That's how rumors will get started so stop lying and starting rumors". The parents will always say that we are probably bad on the bus and that we deserve it. We can't do anything! Nothing works! One time he even said "SHUT THE HELL UP ANDSIT DOWN NOW YOU B*****! That just scared me! PLEASE HELP US WE NEED THIS BUS DRIVER GONE!

first off, debris on the floor (such as food from backpacks) is very hazardous since it could roll to the front of the bus and get stuck under the brake pedal causing an accident. second, I have believe it or not I was in school once and rode a bus to school, kids on a bus can be very rude and very distracting for the driver. it is a bus drivers duty to do what he/she has to in order to make sure that kids get to and from school safely. as far as almost hitting a tree, he could have been distracted by rude kids or maybe you are just saying that to try and get sympathy from people. don't interfere if you have no knowledge in what it takes.

my backpack weighs 25 lbs. i take home almost everything every day. how do i make it not weigh so much?

Have you asked if your school will lend you an extra set of textbooks to leave at home? Then you can have one to keep at school and another to use in doing homework. A lot of schools are allowing this option because so many children are damaging their backs.

Otherwise, see if you can purchase extra copies of the books to keep at home. Then you should be able to get rid of most of the weight.

Also, some students use rolling bags, like the kind that pilots and stewardesses and other frequent travellers use for their carry-on luggage on airplanes; they have wheels and a handle that can be pulled out to use or pushed in to save space. They may be a bit pricey, but it is much easier to push that weight around than it is to lug it on your back.

For the future, you might suggest that your school look into getting copies of textbooks on CDs for students to use at home. I know some kids who have classes where there are textbooks that are kept in the classroom for classroom use and the students are given the choice of a heavy textbook or a CD to use at home for homework. You might try suggesting that idea to the schoolboard. (They may really like it if you mention that it will lessen the likelyhood of them being sued for injuring some poor student's back from such heavy loads.)

What is the difference between college homecoming and high school homecoming?

No one has never explained this to me...Obviously I am a freshman. Is it just a football game or is there a dance? I know all schools are different. I'm asking because someone asked me to come ro their homecoming at their college...so what does that mean?

As already stated - if someone asked you to their homecoming as a one-day event then it is probably on a Saturday and probably will include lunch at a residence hall (or a grill-out at campus event or day-time party with beer and Corn hole depending on the personality/social life of the person who asked you.) After that probably the football game itself. Most people in college participate in some sort of tailgating - which pretty much means you stand in a parking lot or field by the stadium and drink beer for hours and possibly play random outdoor drinking games (such as Corn hole (a bean bag toss type game), ladder ball (where two balls are attached together by a little piece of rope and you have to toss the rope to loop around a ladder essentially). Sometimes students actually attend the game - sometimes not. Depends on again who you are socializing with. Other activities of the day may include a homecoming parade (much like any other parade only sometimes Greek (sorority or fraternity) based. Sometimes colleges also have events like bed races (where you literally race on beds with wheels), cookouts and then the non-campus sponsored events like house parties, tailgating, beer, beer and more beer.

Whereas high school homecoming consists of going to the football game on a Friday night and watching and hoping your team wins and then going to a dance afterwards.
