What do I wear with white jeans for the first day of school?

cute_gal10

ok, so my first day of high school is in 2 days. can somebody please give suggestions on what to wear? I have a pair of white skinny jeans that I want to wear, although I do not know what to match with it. My school only allows us to wear tops with straps as thick or thicker than our hand, so no spaghetti straps/tank tops. Please do not recommend things for me to buy, since I am banned from shopping. :) Also, I live in Hong Kong, and the weather is quite hot right now.

P.S I will also be carring a white bag as a school bag, so should my shoes and top be in a bold color?
ok, so i have found a cute tube to go with it. its bright, so it looks nice with the white jeans. :) but, since my school does not allow spaghetti straps, it does not allow tubes. what do i do? wear something under it, or wear something over it? what should i wear with it?

Answer
Yes, keep only your bag white, but all accesories bold coloured....jewellery must be silver, try wrapping a bright coloured scarf or material round your belt line in your jeans to brighten up your outfit.

Don't wear white anywhere on your top; too much white, even a little too much, can turn a good outfit bad
Shoes should be a bold colour, but only one colour that's related to your top......
......when I say related I mean the colour of the pattern of your top, for instance, if you have a blue top with red stars or red coloured neckline, wear red shoes....or if you have a blue top with a pink logo, wear pink shoes

Try also matching your material belt with your shoes, or you can contrast a colour, for instance, red contrasts with yellow or green.....purple contrasts with green or yellow....blue contrasts with pink or purple
(only use the contrast idea for the material belt, if you have three different contrasting colours or contrastig colours on the top or bottom half of your body, it will look like one half is a colour match and the other half is something else etc etc)

How can I make a flimsy leather bag sturdy enough to use as a school bag?

Carly

I saw this leather backpack at kohls and thought it'd be perfect for school. little did I know it is not sturdy what soever. It cant even stand up on it's own, when you set it upright it falls down like it's a shirt. If that makes sense. How can I make it sturdy enough to be a school bag? here it is: http://www.kohls.com/upgrade/webstore/product_page.jsp?PRODUCT<>prd_id=845524893109502&crosssell=true

Answer
For the student the backpack is a must have. It is essential to have good and efficient backpacks for school because of the weight on the back and shoulders and also to be able to preserve your precious materials with you during the day. Go for Disney school backpacks:

I'm going into 9th grade,and I've nervous,but excited at the same time.

-do you still have a lot of classes with 9th graders,or mixed from every grade?
-i'm worried that I won't know anyone in my lunch period!
-do a lot of girls carry messenger bags and totes,or backpacks?

thanks :)

Answer
Im going in to 9th grade too!!! i asked a question like this a few days ago and got some pretty awesome answers:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvpEU4_aIrg5rfCtIIpK90zsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110711153422AAkDNsJ

Do 9 graders have to bring a backpacksfor their first day of high school?

Christine

Im going to be in the 9th grade and I aleady know that the teachers at my school are going to tell what the students need for school. So Im just curious about this, do we still have to bring backpacks on the first day of school?
Also some tips about anything that I should on my first day of high school :D
Im excited for it but a little nervous at the same time. XD

Answer
yes. I you want to make a good impression then bring a book bag/pack with a book and a pencil to copy down anything you need. Teachers like to see kids who are prepared the first day. Also try to be respectful and try not to talk a lot. The first impression is usually the only impression. Also try to feel your teachers out but observing them for a couple of days so you aren't surprised. Also beware of the teachers who make their class seem fun and easy but grade your tests, quizzes and homework really hard.

What kind of bag should I get for college?

best kids backpacks on wheels image

Question G

I'm going to be a freshman and what do college kids use? Backpacks? Tote bags? etc...

Any suggestions?

Answer
Some use backpacks, I have in the past, but right now I am using a tote and I really like it! Just get any cute over sized purse and you can carry your books/laptop in it. If you have A LOT of stuff to carry and have a long walk i would recommend getting a small suitcase with wheels(look online they have ones with cute prints) All the dental students on my campus use them.

what are the pros and cons of different kinds of backpacks for my child?

jon

What are the pros and cons for these backpacks: ( i dont know which one to get for my son)
-A backpack with wheels that you roll
-A normal backpacks with 2 shoulder straps
-A draw string backpack
- A backpack with one shoulder strap, like a handbag

which the safest
which wont hurt his back as much
what is the proper way to wear each

Answer
forget the draw string and nike backpacks, they can never hold enough, even for a grade-schooler. Messanger bags are okay, but they may hurt your child's back, especially if he has alot of books or has to walk home. Backpacks with wheels are okay for young kids. But they dont fit in most lockers/cubbie holes. I'd stick with the normal, classic 2 strap. It won't hurt his back as much as the others, and its the best out of what you suggested, i believe.

hope this helps!

What did you carry everyday in high school?

What did you carry everyday in high school?
I'm doing a project for my English class based on the book "The Things They Carried" which has to be around the things high schoolers carry. My teacher said anything goes and my group and I are going to survey people and ask them what they consider themselves to be in high school (nerd, stoner, jock, preppy, etc) and what physical/emotional things they carried to fulfill the "duties" of their clique. The physical things include anything that you typically bring to school in your bag/backpack. We're going to use the data and make a slideshow. I have a small school and I'm going to ask students in my school and get photos of their backpacks. But, I want the results to be as collective as possible so that's why I'm here.

What do you think you were in high school? What things did you physically carry daily? Were there any emotional things or feeling that were carried associated with being in the clique you were? (for example, nerds feeling out-casted or "too" smart) Thanks so much.

So what did you carry and what did you consider yourself to be?

Answer
Books, notebooks, pens, pencils, some art supplies, keys.

I was on the nerd side as well as an artist. I also hung around athletes some and played some sports.

Is it required to know how to use a sewing machine before entering Fashion Design school?

evian

I've sewn so many stuff manually (just needle and thread) already like shirts and jeans and vests but i dont know how to use a sewing machine! I'm also a little scared of the possibly snobbish hipster classmates im gonna have when i enter Design School.

So do i have to learn all the basics beforehand before entering?

Answer
I'll tell you about my personal experience:

I really wanted to get into fashion design but had very little sewing experience. I was pretty good at sketching ideas but that's about it. I did hand sew a Halloween costume for myself that turned out alright but nothing all that professional. I decided to apply to FIT - it was insane. There were about 50 other people all waiting in a big room where we all had to draw an outfit right then. Then we each got to go up to this table of about 5 people for an "interview" - it lasted about 5 minutes. They flipped through my portfolio of sketches, glanced at the photo of the costume I made, smiled, and moved on to the next person. Needless to say, I didn't get in. Most of the people there seemed to be VERY prepared. Some had full on elaborate costumes and couture dresses that they pulled out of bags. Others had huge portfolios of fashion drawings and photographs of their work. If you are planning on applying to a high-end fashion school in a place like New York, I suggest you do LOTS of preparing. Not to be discouraging, but it is very competitive and I regret not doing more. I ended up taking a few sewing courses at the local community college and realized that making clothes is not for me. Most fashion schools expect you to know how to use an industrial machine right away. They even told me that at the interview. When I said I didn't know how to use one, I could tell I lost my chance right then.

Well that's just what happened to me. If you are REALLY good you might be able to get away with not knowing how to use one, but make sure every other part of your skills are very good. Or maybe take a few sewing courses ahead of time - it will really pay off in the end. Good luck!

Tips on housekeeping?

~*~Frie

I am a single mother, and full time college student, and I have a job. I get home from school, have a little time to work on homework, get my son, feed him, and try and go to work. My house is REALLY suffering, I can't seem to find enough time to give it a good cleaning.

Any ideas or tips I can do to try and get caught up and keep it up?

Answer
I am a bit of a freak and was a single mother for a long time so I feel your pain. If your house is out of control right now then tackle one thing at a time, donât find something in the kitchen that belongs in the bedroom and then go to put that away and notice that you should change the sheets and while doing that see that the laundry is piling up and should be bleached and then while in the laundry room see that hook that you have been meaning to hang since last Christmas and then try to find your screw driver and while looking for your screw driver notice that you havenât fed the kids all day, by the end of the day you have spent all day being really busy and have absolutely nothing done! Its so very frustrating!!!
Here is my suggestion to start anything, start small and have the kids help. Set a timer and see how much you and the kids can get done in 20 min and when the timer goes off everyone stops no matter what. Walk away and do something else for awhile and maybe go back the next day and finish the project.
Donât start a new project until the one you started is done.
Bring 3 boxes into the room you are trying to organize, 1 for âdoesnât belong in this roomâ, 1 for âthrow awayâ and 1 for âGoodwill or give awayâ.
I have a âSaturday box for the house - anything that is left out and not put away after we are done using it goes in the box and you donât get the stuff back until Saturday. The kids seem to remember to put their stuff away after they lose something they really like having around!
As far as cleaning goes - I used to have a âcleaning scheduleâ on the fridge with one or 2 chores for each day, Sunday was my big laundry day, Thursday night after work I would clean the bathrooms, every Saturday I went grocery shopping and ran a few errends with the kids, mon, wed and Friday were cat box changing days, etc. When you break it down into 1 or 2 chores each day it doesnât seem so difficult.
I have a clip board on the wall by the back door and every day when the kids get home from school they put all papers they received from school on the board and I take them off, read them, sign them, get field trip money together, whatever the case is and I put them back on the board. It is the kids responsibility to put those papers back in their backpacks and get them to the teachers. That way I donât have crap loads of paper all over my house and nothing gets lost.
Hope this helps, I understand how difficult it is to do it alone and things do get easier as they get a little older - hang on to your sanity!!!

As a parent would you be mad?

Ok so would you be mad if your childs ipod just got stolen after 1 month.
Ok lets start at first i was given an ipod nano for my birthday i had it for quite awhile and then one day at school i decided to put in my purse in my backpack underneath the bleachers because some other kids did the same thing so i thought what could be the chances that someone would steal it. Obviously i was wrong. Someone stole my ipod but not my phone and stole my friends cell phone and then dumped another girls backpack out and stole her digital camera.
I've had all my cellphones 1-4 and still hold onto them except number 4 b/c it was trashed cracked screen, broken buttons, and a black screen. I know i can only get a flip phone.
Ok I was at a hotel and my ipod was buried underneath all my clothes and other stuff. I left my ipod shuffle (I got it last month) and I'm pretty sure it was the housekeeping because the people i shared the room with left the same time i did and i was the last to leave. We all came back at the same time and I noticed my area looked a bit empty and when we got back it was about the time the housekeeper would come around. See I didn't know you're suppose to put the Do not disturb sign on the door to prevent it it didn't really occur to me our advisor to anything about being careful and neither did my mom so i didn't really suspect a thing but this is my second ipod being stolen as a parent who bought that would you be mad and if so how much?

Answer
My iPod got stole have a year of owning it and I was furious! They are expensive, in-the-demand gadgets to several selfish people would go out of their way to snatch up a free one. This is why, from now on, I stick with lower-priced musical devices and I definally wouldn't trust to put one of these pricey toys in my child's hands.

I am 13 going into 8th grade. I don't want a backpack. I want like a messenger bag. I do have a bag from Hollister but it can barely hold my books! I want a bag with pockets for pencils and such. Does anybody have links for a cute messenger bag that can hold books? Thanks a ton in advance!

Answer
Try Target - they have cuter bags than you'd probably expect.

Also try Nordstrom. Sometimes they have reasonable prices on bags.

I bought a Juicy Couture (tote though) for $75 and it's HUGE. I'd say better than a messenger, and it holds a lot of books and can endure a lot of weight.

What should I buy to be a popular freshman girl?

I haven't really wanted to be popular before, but I now do. I've become super nice to everyone and I hope I'm fun to be around. The last step in making myself more popular is buying things. I have $500. What should I buy. Some of my ideas were:

-coach and juicy couture jewlery
-tons of forever 21 accessories
-uggs
-juicy couture tote for a school bag

any other ideas?

Answer
Hello.

You don't necessarily have to buy things. I am currently very popular at my school. Juicy couture is huge! So are true religion jeans. Buying stuff like this will not necessarily make you popular. Try dressing really really cute EVERY day. You can't take one day off. Instead of buying a juicy tote... I would suggest a leather bag. They re very popular and sooooo adorable! You can get them at abercrombie or pacsun.

Remember that the popular people are not just going to let you in because you have nice stuff. You have to friend them first, start hanging out with them one by one, and then as a group.

Make sure u wear your makeup really cute all the time! Get makeup from sephora and Mac. A flawless face, big eyes and poured lips should do the trick.

I know this is bad, but honey... Your gonna have to show some skin. Low cut tops and booty shorts.

I would shop....
Forever 21---accessories, shirts/blouses
Pacsun----purses, shorts
Abercrombie---purses, *shorts*
Sephora---- eyemakeup
Mac-----face makeup
UggS--- brown tall boots
Steve madden---- sandals, cute boots with heel
Hollister----skirts and bare midriffs

That's all the info I can give you :)

How can I improve my chances of getting a job at publix?

school bags 2010
on way to start the new school year than with brand new stationery, bag ...
school bags 2010 image

red riding

You can start working at publix when your 14 and since I turn 14 in April I would like to apply there. I have heard many people at school say that they want to work there this summer, so I will have alot of competition with them and others who apply. By the way I don't have to write a a resume since I'm not applying for a managing job.

Answer
First start asking i.e. teachers, guidance counselor, neighbor you babysat for or knows you for at least 2-3 years, church pastor/priest/rabbi, manager at volunteer work you performed, head of any school activities, a family adult friend etc. would they be a reference for you relative to your character i.e. dependable (show up on time), outgoing/positive attitude, conservative in appearance, serious student /good grades, ability to make friends a team player with projects, flexible etc.
Then type these references on a WORD document. The title is Personal References or if you worked or have volunteer experience then Personal and Professional References. You need i.e. full name, street address, state/city/zip code, phone # and their title. You will, when called for a interview, have this document with you which puts you one step above your competition.

Interview Attire:
Dress for Success- meaning purchase a two (2) piece matching skirt or pant suit in navy or grey, a long sleeve white blouse (not sheer), conservative polished flat or low heels, stockings in a neutral shade, a conservative hand bag, clear nail polish, neat hair style, no body piercings or tattoos, two ink pens in case one runs out of ink, one piece of jewelry a necklace or scarf. If finances are a problem then go to the Salvation Army or GoodWill.

Common Interview Questions or could be on the job application:
What do you know about Publix: Check Publix website under the categories: About Us, History etc.which could be at the bottom of the page. You can impress the interviewer with siting the date they were founded, how many employees, how many stores etc.

Example:

Founded in 1930, Publix Super Markets is the largest and fastest-growing employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States. Publix and our associates excel in community involvement, volunteerism and a commitment to our market areas and beyond.

â¢Founded by the late George W. Jenkins in 1930 in Winter Haven, Fla.
â¢Largest employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States
â¢One of the 10 largest-volume supermarket chains in the United States
â¢2010 retail sales of $25.1 billion
â¢Current employee count of more than 151,000
Store Locations
1,047 supermarkets in:

Another common question is why should be hire you?
You are a dedicated and reliable worker, love serving a diversity of customers, have shopped with family at this store, even if not true, and found the employees to be upbeat and the store clean. It would be a great opportunity to learn the food business which is a field you want to pursue i.e. nutritionist or cheaf one day.

What to expect when going to high school?

Gbriehu

I'm going to a public high school and it's quite large. and no one Im close to is going there. What should I expect? My old school was small; it was only about 220 students.

Answer
TIPS:
- don't be scared/nervous/worried... high school is not that big of a deal
- get a map of the school so you don't get lost... but don't walk around the school with it in front of your face
- you're not all of a sudden cool just cuz you're in high school so don't try and act like it... and don't go around talking to your friends about how cool it is that your in high school
- don't ask upperclassmen for help if you're lost (ask a teacher or friend) cuz they might point you in the wrong direction
- don't stop in the middle of the hallways
- try to make new friends in your classes... but still keep your old ones
- join clubs/sports... trust me it's an easy way to make friends and it looks good on college applications
- don't run to lunch
- on the first day don't wear you hollister shirt, hollister pants, hollister flipflops, and carrying your hollister bag... you will have freshman written all over you and don't wear too much makeup/accesories... just wear something simple but cute :)
- it is possible to fall UP the stairs... lol. but if this (or something like this) does happen don't be embarrassed... just laugh at yourself and walk away cuz its no big deal
- please don't be an immature freshman
- make good grades (don't screw it up freshman year cuz you WILL regret it)
- don't come to school on the first day with your huge backpack full of colored pencils, glue sticks, tissue boxes... you don't need all that crap you're in high school now. all you need for the first day is paper, pencils, and a folder
- don't decorate your locker (nobody at my school decorates them)
- be prepared for freshman friday!!!! nahhh i'm just kidding it doesn't exist.... and any rumors you hear are all FAKE! nothing scary happens... and high school is nothing like the movies.

good luck :)

this is all i can think of at the moment... senior's rule! 2010!

Will I get in Appalachian State University?

sarah

Sorry if this may be kind of long but anyway. So I started high school at the local public high school. I got all As my freshman year, did varsity cross country, varsity track and varsity soccer. Sophomore year I got all As with two B's. One B in math and one B in Spanish. I did Varsity cross country, varsity track, varsity soccer and travel soccer outside of school. I was also inducted into the beat club. For my junior year my parents felt the public high school was too easy and wasn't challenging me enough. So for my junior year I'm attending the local private prep school. My parents had me tested half way through this year (my junior year) and found out I have dyslexia and dyscalculus (meaning my mind can't do math high then algebra 1). Which it wasn't a big shocker or anything, we kind of figured. My junior year has been kind of a struggle. With trying to do Allegra 2, chemistry with all the math in it, being the new kid again, and going to a very difficult prep school where most of the kids IQs are 150. The school year isn't over yet but so far i have one high A in photography, and all very low Bs in everything else. Meaning it's about an 80 or 79.7 in the rest of my classes. I'm currently doing online math so i can go at my own pace and i have a tutor for chemistry that I see at least three times a week. But it's still a struggle to understand things. I've only taken the SAT once and I didn't really study much and I got a 1310. I took the ACT recently but I haven't gotten my scores back yet. I did travel soccer outside of school this year, I'm on the school sailing team, I'm on the varsity soccer team and co-captain, and I plan to do cross country my senior year along with varsity soccer. This year has just been very difficult for me and my school obviously is a lot harder then most other schools. But I went to a private catholic school my whole life before i started high school. I also do a summer camp that's not like most camps. It's called adventure treks and it's a outdoor leadership camp for teens my age. Where we go backpacking, raft, rock climb, kayak, climb mountains while learning skills and leadership skills. I really want to go to App state. I visited and I feel like it'd fit me great. Do you think I have a chance of getting in?

Notes: I live out of state in Georgia
I'm currently a junior in high school

Answer
Maybe, maybe not. My nephew was in kind of the same situation, he didn't get in at first and he went to community college and then got in for his junior year - he's there now. Transfer is more flexible on grades.

You should know that any change of school like that, right in the middle of your time in high school can be quite jarring, and it's usually not a wise idea to do that because grades suffer. It's hard on teens to make switches like that, and while your parents had your best interests at heart, getting good grades is a sign that things are good, not that they are too easy, so I don't agree with what they did People often don't realize that sometimes the best thing is to stay.

All I can say is that you might want to consider taking time to work on your academics this summer, and make a strong showing your senior year. Hopefully you'll have grades to show when you apply that can counteract your junior year. It's a shame because junior year tends to be the more important year, coming down to the finish line so to speak. App is one of the top Southern schools, and it's competitive - you may have a harder time getting in as a freshman but as my nephew has proven, it can be done later.

You should go to their site and review - here's part of it, this is what the last incoming class looked like grade-wise - and check the links below on freshmen students and transfer students criteria.
2012 Freshman Class Profile
Average weighted GPA of 3.99
Average SAT of 1153 (combination of math & verbal)
Average ACT of 26 composite
88% in state
12% out of state

Is my wife giving too much attention to our son?

Lionel

Hi, recently I got married to a woman who already has a 7 years old kid.
I found out that she is still wiping his butt, giving him a shower, carrying his school bag to school (sometime to the classroom) brushing his teeth and choosing his clothes (yes he cannot choose his clothes by himself).
I am trying to change all those habit as I think that it is a bit too much, but I am not sure if I am wrong or not.
Oh and he also refused a few times to walk and she ended up carrying him until home.... But I could change that bad habit.

Answer
Yeah, that's beyond being a mamma's boy. She's not doing the kid any favors by coddling him way too much. The butt wiping and the showering...just a big fat NO! If the boy doesn't know how to wipe his own butt or shower himself at age 7, then that's mom's fault. Talk to her. Gently. This is her son, and before you came along, I'm sure it was just her and her boy. Tell her there's a man in the house now. They are not alone, and she is not alone. Tell her to let you be part of his life, and that includes man-ing the boy up a little. Do guy things.

How do you make Happy Meal Treats to take to school?

gensler97

I have heard of moms sending these to school before. They are individually bagged for each kid, with a treat that resembles a hamburger, fries ( I think it is those string chips ), a drink, and a little toy.

Answer
Are you looking for a little treat that is shaped like a hamburger and fries? Or are you looking for fun lunch treats in general?

Here is a snack combo treat that resembles a burger and fries. The "burger" is a cookie and the fries are like a peanut butter fudge. They are from quickcooking.com There are pictures at the website.

Cookie Burger
http://recipes.tasteofhome.com/eRMS/recp.aspx?recid=7956
INGREDIENTS
1 package (17-1/2 ounces) sugar cookie mix
2 drops yellow food coloring, optional
1-1/2 cups peanut butter chips, chopped
TOPPING:
3/4 cup flaked coconut
5 to 6 drops green food coloring
FILLING:
1/2 cup butter, softened
2-2/3 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
Prepare cookie dough according to package directions; add yellow food coloring if desired. Stir in peanut butter chips. Shape into 1-1/4-in. balls; place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a glass. Bake at 375° for 9-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
Place coconut in a plastic bag; sprinkle 5 to 6 drops green food coloring into bag and shake until color is evenly distributed.
In a small mixing bowl, cream butter until smooth. Add the confectioners' sugar, cocoa, milk and vanilla; beat until smooth. Frost the bottoms of 22 cookies; sprinkle with coconut. Top with remaining cookies and gently squeeze together. Yield: 22 sandwich cookies.
"You may substitute your favorite sugar cookie recipe for the cookie mix; just add the yellow food coloring if desired and the peanut butter chips"

Peanutty Fries
http://recipes.tasteofhome.com/eRMS/recp.aspx?recid=7957
INGREDIENTS
1 package (10 ounces) peanut butter chips
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
Paper muffin cup liners (2-1/2-inch diameter)
Red icing, optional

In a microwave, melt peanut butter chips with milk; stir until smooth. Pour into a foil-lined and greased 9-in. baking pan. Cool completely at room temperature. Lift out of the pan and invert onto a cutting board.
Remove foil; cut into 3-in. x 1/4-in. strips. Fold muffin cup liners in half, pressing out creases; fold in half again. Fold point under; use as holder for fries. Use icing for ketchup if desired. Yield: about 3-1/2 dozen.

Answer
Hats of to you on your thought to send the toys to the poor. Greatly appreciate the gesture.

I would suggest sea mail would be the best option for you.

Experience of one of the persons that sent thru Sea Mail-

1. Keep boxes < 30 lb.
2. put books in garbage (plastic) bags or some kind of transperant plastc wrapper to hold things together if cardboard tears.
3. Use sturdy boxes.
4. Write source and destiniation addresses in several places on boxes.
5. Note that box will be opened by customs in Mumbai.
6. Average time - 10 weeks.

Answer
hahhaha i read this. some of them are wrong, lloll, which takes away from the funniness, but its' still cute. like for "paper" it would be "peh-paar" not "fefar". hahaha. here's a funny one too:

A is for Aapish (Office). This is where the average Kolkatan goes and
spends a day hard(ly) at work. If he is in the Government he will arrive
at 10, wipe his forehead till 11, have a tea break at 12, throw around a
few files at 12.30, break for lunch at 1, smoke an unfiltered cigarette
at 2, break for tea at 3, sleep sitting down at 4 and go home at 5. It's
a hard life!
B is for Boka. Meaning phool or eedeeot, often used with an abusive
rhyming attachment which means an absolute phool or eedeeot.
C is for Chappell. This is the Bengali word for the Devil, for the worst
form of evil. In the night mothers put their kids to sleep saying 'go to
bed, or Chappell will come and take you away.'
D is for Debashish. By an ancient law every fourth Bengali Child has to
be named Debashish. So you have a Debashish everywhere and trying to get
creative they are also called Deb, Debu, Deba with variations like
Debnath and Deboprotim thrown in.
E is for Eeesh. This is a very common Bengali exclamation made famous by
Aishwarya Rai in the movie Devdas. It is estimated that on an average a
Bengali uses eeesh 10,089 times every year. (That's counting eeesh and
other eeesh-ish words).
F is for Pheesh. These are creatures that swim in rivers and seas and
are a favourite food of the Bengalis. Despite the fact that a fish
market has such strong smells, with one sniff a Bengali knows if a fish
is all right. If not, he will say 'eeesh, what pheeesh is theeesh!'
G is for Good name. Every Bengali Boy will have a good name like
Debashish or Deboprotim and a pet name like Shontuda, Choti, Poka and
Dinku. While every Bengali Girl will be Paromita or Protima as well as
Shampa, Champa and Buri. Basically your nickname is there to kill your
good name.
H is for Harmonium. The Bengali equivalent of a rock guitar. Take four
Bengalis and a Harmonium and you have the successors to The Bheatles!
I is for lleesh. This is a pheeesh with 10,000 bones which would kill
any ordinary person, but which the Bengalis eat with releeesh!
J is for Jaamaaibabu or Jhaamelaa or Jhola. No self respecting Bengali
is complete without his Jhola. It is a shapeless cloth bag where he
keeps all his belongings and he fits an amazing number of things in.
Even as you read this there are 2 million jholas bobbling around
Kolkata- and they all look exactly the same!
K is for Kee Kaando. It used to be the favourite Bengali exclamation
till eeesh took over because of Aishwarya Rai (now Kee Kaando's agent is
trying to hire Bipasha Basu).
L is for Ludo or Lungi. People in Kolkata manage to play football and
cricket wearing it. Now there is talk of a lungi expedition to Mt.
Everest. That is when they are not playing Ludo on the "roK"
M is for Minibus. These are dangerous half buses whose antics would
effortlessly frighten the living daylights out of Formula 1 race
drivers.
N is for Nangtoe. This is the Bengali word for Naked. It is the most
interesting naked word in any language!
O is for Oil. The Bengalis believe that a touch of mustard oil will cure
anything from cold (oil in the nose), to earache (oil in the ear), to
cough (oil on the throat) to piles (oil you know where!)
P is for Potol and Pantua - the must haves on all Bong meals.
Q is for Queen. This really has nothing to do with the Bengalis or
Kolkata, but it's the only Q word I could think of at this moment.
There's also Quilt but they never use them in Kolkata.
R is for Robi Thakur. Many years ago Rabindranath got the Nobel Prize.
This allows everyone in Kolkata to frame their acceptance speeches and
walk with their head held high and look down at Delhi and Mumbai! R used
to be for "Rok (rock)-bazi" - the quintessential place for sitting and
watching the street idling away till a few years back.
S is for Shala: Wife's brother or the most publicly used swear word in
Kolkata.
T is for Trams. Hundred years later there are still trams in Kolkata. Of
course if you are in a hurry it's faster to walk.
U is for Ambrela. When a Bengali baby is born they are handed one.
V is for Violence. Bengalis are the most non-violent violent people
around. When an accident happens they will shout and scream and curse
and abuse, but the last time someone actually hit someone was in 1979.
W is for Water. For three months of the year the city is under water and
every year for the last 200 years the authorities are taken by surprise
by this!
X is for X mas. It's very big in Kolkata, with Park Street fully lit up.

Y is for Yestaarday. Which is always better than today for a Bengali.
Z is for Jeebra, Joo, Jip and Jylophone.

hahahahahahaha do i get best answer?

What shoulder bag would be good to use as a school bag?

school bags vera bradley
on Pretty in Paisley: Vera Bradley speacks to stylish generations with ...
school bags vera bradley image

:]

I'm kind of over backpacks, and I want to use some sort of shoulder bag next year for school.
Basically, the main thing is that it fits all my stuff - a laptop, a few folders, and some composition books. Other than that, the only thing is price. I'd like to keep it under $100. I kind of like the Fossil and Vera Bradley tote bags, but I'm not sure if it'd fit all my stuff. Let me know what you think!

What bags would fit this criteria?

Answer
Country Road tote bags... they're amazing.

What current fads or fashion do you absolutely hate?

Taraaa(<3)

A lot of girls at my school have Vera Bradley bags, I hate those things, seriously, I think they are really ugly, no offense to anyone who likes them.
So, which current fads do you hate?

Answer
harem pants... dear god, were not living in an MC hammer music video.

anything bright neon.. seriously, i know you want to stand out or whatever, but all your doin is giving me a migraine.. literally. stop giving me f*ckin migraines, yknow?

as well as anything "ghetto" looking, anything "gangster" looking, PEOPLE WHO WEAR ALL BLACK, ALWAYS (i have a lot of the color black in my closet because black is a basic color, but i think its stupid when people refuse to wear anything that isnt black... WTF?)

i personally own a few ugg knockoffs (ie, only paid 10 bucks for each so the whole "spent way too much" argue doesnt apply) but i can actually pull them off.

I got charged for a fight at school?

school bags for kids in egypt
on Determining-the-Will-of-God Copyright 2008 by Doug Batchelor ...
school bags for kids in egypt image
Q. It was only a few days ago.
It's was in the morning and I was just getting my books out of my locker. I usually try to stick as many of my books in my bag as I can so I won't be late or anything. And when I was adjusting my straps on, I lost my balance and kind of knocked into someone. That was this one girl that hates my guts and vice versa. Obviously, she thought I did it on purpose so she pushed me. I was caught offguard, so I couldn't stop myself or anything and broke two of my teeth cos I fell flat on my face.
I quickly got back up and threw my bookbag on the floor and I kicked her in the gut and she sort of just fell... That's always been my self defense kind of thing...
Normally, I'm mellow but on the internet she kept trash talking my family and I couldn't help it.
This is one thing she said to me, of the many similar to it;

You are not better than anyone, nor anything.

Your opinion sucks your moms gigantic ass.

Technically,your an ignorant little bitch.
List of things you need to do:
1.Move to Egypt
2.Buy a paper bag
3.Put it over that ugly face
4.Make sure to wear completely black clothing
5.Lay out in the sun for a long time
6.Don't drink any water
And then we'll all be fine, because hopefully you'll have died from dehydration.
Mkay?
THANKXZ,love you too.

(No one really likes me because I'm opinionated.)
And then some kids that use to bully me a lot got into the fight and started circling around me. My two friends were by my side and eventually, we all got into a row.
Then when everyone, including the one who started the fight, were midst, the principal came around and blamed ME for everything. No matter how many bystanders were there and told them I didn't start it, he still blamed my and my two friends.
Now we're being charged and I have to replace my teeth... (One of them was already fake.)
And we got suspended, but the other kids got nothing. I was even kicked off the bus for when I came back to school as well, but once again not the other students.

I'm really pissed and I think this is unfair.
I'm a very good student; merit roll, staff helper, steering committee, student of the month....
I believe that the staff is judging me by my brother, who is the complete opposite of me and usually starts fights.
I've got a court date and I don't know what to do.
I'm in seventh grade, btw.
I don't know how i'm going to defend myself and prove that I didn't even start the fight.
Can anyone help me?

Answer
print out exactly what you have wrote on yahoo answers. have your friend read it out in court. and the judge will have sympathy for you. trust me. it will work.....

what was the worst situation you have been in at school days?

when i was a kid in school , the teacher gave us a H.W and since i was fashel i didn't do it then the next day he came with his book to check the our h.w and put the marks , another teacher came from outside and told our teacher "one min please" so the teacher closed the door and went out of the class to talk with the other teacher so i took his book which he writes the marks on it and hide it on my bag and when the teacher came again to the class , he didn't find his book so he asked the other kids who stole it , no one answered so he said that all of us will get 0 bas el 3yal sam3o el kalma di w 3/4 shawro 3lya

sorry my English isn't that good

Answer
i said it before. my school in egypt had these computers, so our class was divided into groups of 5 and every group shared one computer. well the teacher freezed the connection (so nobody could play) and starting using the projector instead. i told one in the group to take off the connection (plug off that little thing on back of the computer) after compromising that student accepted (bent kanet gabana 7'ales) anyway i started playing solitaire with my friend (there was no internet cuz the connection was frozen from the master computer) but solitaire was better than listening to the teacher. after a while the teacher heard the clicking sound so she turned telling me to show her the monitor, me and my friend had a couple of pictures saved on the computer so we opened one of them, enlarged it and turned the screen for her to check.

Where to get over the shoulder bags?

:)

I like to use bags for school with a long strap so i can wear it over my head. I used one frmo h&m last year..but i didnt like it very much. I found one on f21.com ( http://canada.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?br=f21&category=acc_handbags&ProductID=1000004206 ) but i rather not have a white bag and no f21 is near me. Any Canadian stores i can find a good cute bag?

Answer
You can find some cute bags at The Bay, Sears, Zellers or Winners. If you want something from teen store you can find some at Stitches, Urban Behaviour, Garage, or pretty much any of the clothes stores in the mall. You pretty much just have to go in the store and look on the walls for bags.

Why can't we let the Tea Party people, Conservatives and Republicans not pay taxes and get no services?

Robert

What if we let the Tea Party, Conservatives and Republicans not pay taxes. Give them exactly what they want. I assume they don't want streets, lights, parks, police protection, fire protection, public schools, libraries, social security, medical. Basically they must live off the grid and not use any public roads or facility's. Its what they want so let them have it.

Answer
You don't get it. 40-50% of your check is already chewed up by federal taxes -- Social Security is also a TAX. Taxes should be kept at the local or municipal level so that there is more transparency and more money is spent on these services rather than on maintaining a bureaucracy.

In a scenario where one could escape oppressive taxes, conservatives would:
....hire their own private security guards (e.g. for a subdivision of 100 homes.... at $200 per home...whoa that's $200,000 for 5 full time or 10 night time security guards -- and since there are no taxes for the guards, they'd be getting paid DOUBLE what they would normally get.) Or one cop per 10 homes. DUH.

They'd go to Wal-mart and buy quick crete to patch the holes in the roads. $10 a bag and no wait for 10 months of bureaucratic paperwork. DUH

They'd install fire protection systems and have a volunteer fire department.

They'd buy their books on Amazon -- or better yet get a Kindle for $260 -- they'd take the used books and donate to a library -- that they would build.

They'd send their kids to private schools -- because let's face it, private schools as a general rule have much higher success rates.

They recognize social security as a tax and take that 12% that would have come out of their check and toss it into a 401K with an 8% yield.

They buy their own insurance AND understand that medicine needs to stay PRIVATIZED not socialized to work properly.

So yeah, keep your hands off of our money -- we'll take care of ourselves.

What Conservatives, Tea Party members and true REPUBLICANS understand that liberals don't is that GOVERNMENT DOES NOT PRODUCE ANYTHING except bureaucracy. Military equipment is produced by Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Smith & Wesson, etc. All private companies. The government does not create anything tangible except papework. They don't produce bottled water, pens, pencils, toothbrushes, cars, solar cells, Ipods, Iphones, Skinputs, Ipads, water heaters, light bulbs... really...name one tangible product that government produces?

Government contracts PRIVATE industry to do the work for them using money they've taken from the general populace. You are of the mind that government can spend your money better than you can -- obviously you don't have a job, don't own a house and don't pay bills. Do you really need government to tell you how you should invest and save for retirement? Which insurance company (medicare/medicaid) you should be paying for? Or which cause (e.g. salamander crossings?!! for $50,000???!!! ) you should be funding (other taxes) so that they can keep useless bureaucratic jobs funded?

It took 12 years to build an overpass here in Atlanta. It took Walt Disney 18 months to build Disney World.... between government and private industry there is no comparison as to which performs better. If there is a need for roads, people will pay for it -- but when its your money and not someone else's, you'll make sure the roads will last longer than 4 years before they need to be 'resurfaced' again.

You also forget -- WE paid for those roads and services with our taxes in the first place. The reason they're constantly under repair or under duress is because they're so poorly managed by -- you guessed it, government. You're saying a person can't hire a contractor for construction, road, utilities, security, tutoring/teaching or other needed services? You believe government can do it better? HAHAHAHA!

good music for a lyrical dance routine for children?

Lizzy

I will be teaching a dance club this year at one of the local elementary schools, because I want to be a dance teacher when I get out highschool/college. I am choosing a few different songs to choreograph to, but I am stuck on the lyrical one. It is for second graders so the kids are really young. The theme of the performance will be a mothers day theme, and I want the finale number to be a really pretty song that will melt the mothers hearts. Something new, pretty, and age appropriate, that will make the mothers cry! lol. Please help! Thanks!

How can I disable my airbags myself?

I have 4 kids all under 10 and my minivan is broke down and it will cost 2400.00 to fix it. My sister let me borrow her car but it has a passenger side airbag and I need to put one of my kids in the passenger side of the car in order to get them to school. Is there any way to disable it myself? I do not have the funds or time to request a switch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
the car is a 2000 ford windstar
sorry i gave the wrong car it is a 98 dodge intrepid that needs the airbags out. at least just the passenger side.

Answer
You might be suprised to know that it varies HUGELY from car to car - without telling us what it is, we have no way of easily helping.

Some have a disable switch in the door pillar. Others can be disabled by removing a fuse. Try looking in the manual and/or adding a note to your question and telling us WHAT car (make/model/year) you are needing to disable.

Kind Regards
Mark

edit: cdever5 : Wrong. Not only do many vehicles allow for a switch to turn off airbags, many others are disabled by simply removing a fuse. when carrying children - especially in child carriers, it is IMPERATIVE to disable the bag. It is NOT illegal to disable an airbag - and in fact in many countries it IS illegal to have an ACTIVE airbag when using a child carrying seat.

Unfortunately the car is one year to early, from 99 onwards it seems that a switch was fitted for the benefit of chiuld seats. The problem is if you are NOT prepared to pay for a switch and NOT prepared to do do thw rok yourself (it takes a little time and effort) then I am not quite sure what to suggest.

If you DO decide to have a go - or know a friend who will help you out, then first off, you need to scan through a manual (we have "Haynes" brand in the UK) to see how to replace an airbag. You might even be able to have a quick scan through the manual at a car accessory place without even buying it.

Now, disconnecting battery first (make sure you have readio code if applicable) and remove the connector nearest the bag as if about to remove the airbag - as shown in the manual.

Double check airbag is completely disconnected and re-attach battery.

You will probably find you now have a flashing light on the dash reminding you that you have a faulty airbag. A small black sticker however is the remedy here.

It goes without saying, that this should ONLY be done if you FULLY accept ALL the consequences of this - and that if you are not entirely sure what you are doing - you should leave well alone.

More than a few people have been killed by airbags when working on them. If unsure, LEAVE IT.

Would you force your child to leave your home at 18?

Poor

What if your kid was 18 and wanted to stay at home?

Answer
No. My 'job' doesn't end when they turn 18. Not all children grow up overnight when they hit adulthood. I meet some people who were fully independent by the age of 16 or 17 and doing great on their own, and I meet others who weren't in a position in life to manage alone in the world until their early or mid 20s. Personally I would have been in a real mess if my parents had washed their hands of me when I hit 18. I wouldn't do that to my child. I wouldn't condone laziness (ie. thinking he can drop out of education, not work, and live off me indefinately), but I believe it is very possible to instill good values upon your children without bagging up their stuff and pushing them out the door the day after their 18th birthday. If my son goes to university, I will more than happily let him stay home if he wishes to avoid him racking up the tens of thousands of £s debt most UK students get into. Even if he goes straight from high school into a job, if he wants to remain home for a while to give him a chance to save enough money for a house deposit so he can get on the property ladder (which is extremely difficult in this country these days) instead of pissing his money away on rent then I would more than happily help him out. If it simply takes him a while longer than some people to acquire the maturity to manage in the 'real world', then I would still prefer to have him in my home than living on the streets or on friend's couches, at least living with me I would have a chance in hell of helping him get on the right track.

Where can I find some cute tote bags for school?

Hannah Ban

I need a tote to put all my books in. What stores or sites have cute tote bags?
I don't like Hollister or Abercrombie.

Answer
Ross is the best store !!!! I got 3 tote bags for school for the price of less than one regular- priced designer tote bag!!!...and originally they cost $300+, and it's the REAL thing too. I got got each for like $26-30 ! You can find other stuff like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Ed Hardy, Burberry, Guess, Baby Phat, Bebe, Akdemiks, Adidas, Andy Warhol and much more in various prices and sizes !!! Trust me on this one, I buy all these designer stuff there and when I flaunt them, nobody knows that I got a bargain for all of them, they think I'm loaded. B)
