How do you get rid of bags under your eyes?

Q. I have to pull an all nighter. We have this giant assembly tomorrow, and I had to write a speech to read in front of the whole school. And I thought school started on the 10th. I was very wrong. Yes, punish me for not being organized later. And I usually get about 11 hours. And I know I'll have HUGE bags under my eyes. And I still want to look good. Can you help me give my speech without looking like a zombie? :)

Oh I have them too and I hate um! And i'm your age too. And take I wild guess who I got them from... my dad. What I do is leave cucumbers on your eyes for 15, then take them off. You could also try tea bags. Leave them in the frigde or freezer till cold. Put them on for ten minutes, then take them off. Also try some eye cream meant for bags. If nothing helps ask your doctor about how to get rid of them.

What is the cheapest way to fly to from Illinois to Costa Rica?

I'm going to Costa Rica for school in August and am wondering the cheapest way to do it, I live 2 hours from O'Hare and 2 hours from Milwaukee also. Thanks for the help!!

Your best bet is to go out of O'Hare.

For August, Sprirt has a $442 fare, but after the seat charges and carry-on charges are added in, it will be $540.

Personally, I would go with Taca Airlines. It's a very good airline that's always on time and provides good customer service. They are $520 and you get free carry on and up to 2 checked bags (50lbs each). They have a very young fleet (no 40 year planes like AA). And their newest planes have individual back-of-the-seat TV's. You get a FREE hot meal and FREE drinks (including alcoholic). It's only a 1 hour layover in San Salvador or Guatemala. Total travel time is only about 7 hours.

The next best would be Continental for $537 through Houston. Also an excellent airline.

Something to eat before school and during?

It's my second semester of high school, and my free lunch program has expired for some odd reason. So instead of starving myself every morning and every lunch, i'm looking to actually try eating before school and during, instead of buying an expensive breakfast and lunch. Basically, the main questions are:
1) What's something good I can eat in the morning to prepare myself for school? Please, no cereal and milk suggestions, i'm lactose.
2) What's a good ideal lunch that I could bring? Preferably something that is easy to make, and convenient to carry.

1)
-Instant oatmeal - It should keep you full and comes in a variety of flavors if you don't have time to add fruit, syrup, or other things to a plan packet of instant. (2 minutes to make)
-Frozen breakfast foods - Quick and easy options are toaster waffles, pancakes, french toast (sticks or actual slices), muffins, toaster strudels, breakfast meals (like Jimmy Dean), hot pockets, etc. (2 to 5 minutes)
-Toast - You can toast bagels, English muffins, bread, biscuits, buns, etc. and add whatever! Peanut butter, butter, cream cheese, jam/jelly, Nutella, Fluff, or even yogurt and fruit.
-Yogurt - They come individual or buy a bigger container of any flavor you like. Add granola, fruit, etc. to make it more filling or eat it with something like toast or a piece of fruit.
-Eggs - They don't take too long to either fry or scramble on the stove, or even microwave them if you're brave. (People do it, but I'm skeptical...)
-Miscellaneous items - Carnation instant breakfast (if you're a light eater), Pop Tarts, granola bars, dry cereal in a bag, smoothies, muffins, donuts, scones, etc.

-Sandwiches/Wraps/Pitas/Bagels/Etc. - The classics like ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, bologna and cheese, salami and cheese, cheese sandwich, peanut butter and jelly, cream cheese and jelly, tuna salad, egg salad, chicken salad on any type of bread you want. Just whip them up before you go, slap it on your bread choice, and put it in a container to prevent any smashing, or a plastic zipper bag if you don't mind.
-Salads - They might not be the most convenient to carry if you don't have room for a container, but they're quick and easy, you can make them large or small, and add whatever you like to them.
-Left overs - Slices of pizza, chicken tenders, restaurant take outs, etc. that don't exactly need to be heated up are great.
-Miscellaneous - crackers and cheese, soup in a thermos, chips and dip, etc.

You can choose any of those items, grab a drink, and maybe something else like a snack or dessert to go along with it. I'd say they're pretty sustainable lunches, especially if you're a hungry highschooler like most of us are. :)

COLA CHICKEN
(And more variations of recipe)
(My personal favoritesâ¦.using this recipe
are the âwings & ribsâ¦.ummm good!)

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
1 cup catsup
1 12oz. can cola (pepsi, coke, etc.)

Put chicken in a non-stick pan.
Mix together catsup and cola, pour over chicken.
Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and cook 45 minutes.
(turning chicken a few times, while cooking...to prevent from sticking to pan)
Uncover, turn up the heat and continue to cook until the sauce
becomes thick and adheres to the chicken.
It turns into the most incredible BBQ sauce. Yummmm!

You can double the recipe and use more pieces of
chicken....wings...would be ideal...add some hot sauce....presto "Hot Wings"!

I have used Ribs, just as good.

I tried this recipe with 'meatballs'....was equally
as good...served over rice.

I found another variation.....omit the catsup and add a small jar of Salsa (any variety).
I have tried using Salsa (omitting the catsup....not).
You'd think a recipe with only '3' ingredients couldn't be messed up....wouldn't you??
Well...while I was preparing to fix the 'Cola Chicken' recipe
using Salsa.....I was also trying to carry on a conversation with my
husband...(just proves...I can't do two things at once)....mixed Salsa & Catsup (before I realized I was supposed to leave out the catsup) & Cola........still turned out really tasty (to me)...might be a little sweeter than some of you like.

I fixed chicken wings, (using the above recipe)
but...I added the spices from a MILD (I don't care for "HOT") Buffalo Wings packet...(the kind you get to bake in the oven).....I thought it was really good.....(but you/I can't find a 'bad' way to fix chicken).

Finally....!! I fixed the 'SALSA' chicken......that's good , too.

Another (bright)idea.....I thought of trying......replace the
catsup with a bottle of Shrimp Cocktail Sauce...and add a bag of (pop corn) shrimp.....!
Fixed the shrimp with cocktail sauce......eh...wasn't all that
great...was OK...probably won't be fixing it again.

Also tried beef stew cuts......that was pretty good.....I can see
myself making this again.
Served both over rice.....think the stew cuts would have been just as
good over noodles.

Gonna try some butterfly cut pork chopesâ¦..or boneless chopsâ¦or pork steaksâ¦â¦should be good!

Try little cocktail wieners/sausagesâ¦for appetizers.



CRUNCHY ONION CHICKEN

1 1/3 cups Frenchâs Original French Fried Onions
4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves
1 egg, beaten

LIGHTLY CRUSH:

Onions in a plastic bag.

DIP:
Chicken in egg

COVER:
With onion crumbs, press firmly to adhere to chicken.

BAKE:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Place chicken on lightly greased baking pan.
Sprinkle with additional onion crumbs, if desired.
Bake for 20 minutes or until no longer pink in center.


Mushroom Chicken

4 boneless/skinless chicken breast (or any pieces you like)
1 can cream of mushroom soup.
1 can water

Place chicken in crock pot (or sauce pan for stove top cooking)
mix soup & 1 can of water together
pour over chicken
cook on medium heat until boiling then reduce heat and cook until chicken is really tender & falling apart.

Serve over noodles or rice or dressing....or???

POT ROAST
Your choice of beef (to fit crock-pot)
1 pkg. dry Ranch dressing mix
1 pkg. dry Italian dressing mix
1 pkg. dry Brown Gravy mix
1 cup water

Is there a better place to donate clothes than the Salvation Army?

Q. I'm a teen and I have done community service there before. I found that they tend to throw out any clothing that doesn't seem somewhat new. Also, if there's a bag of clothing and they don't like what's on top, they trash the whole thing! Personally, I think that's a waste.

Is there any way to channel old clothes to places (perhaps other than America) that will accept perfectly acceptable clothes?

well, you could always go local. churches and schools tend to collect clothing donations to give to homeless shelters and such. look around for those.
local shelters and organizations also usually take in clothing so check out your neighborhood.
places that are similar in concept to the salvation army are goodwill and the vietnam veterans of america.

I always have had a problem with School-work? [READ DETAIL]?

Alright, I'm just seeking a little help-chat from someone.
I just need to get this out of myself and ask the world what should/can/may do!
Ok, I'm an 8th grader, I have ADD, and I'm mostly a B or sometimes C student (83%'s & 75%'s).
I can do really well on tests if I study hard and have interest in the subject, sadly I don't.
My problem, even the teachers confronted to my parents, is that I NEVER DO MY HOMEWORK.
I'm doing O.K. on tests, average, just a bit more studying should make them better, but I RARELY GIVE MY HOMEWORK IN TIME.
Listen, I just don't know!
I always get distracted!
I always forget!
I just get carried away with relaxing, going outside and playing some soccer, or even just staying inside all day and being on the internet!
Right now, I have history homework and science homework that's due tommorow.
I'm not going to complain or whine how I can get motivation, I just need some tips or someone to criticize me or tell me what's wrong with me! I just can never keep track of time of me doing my homework! Even today 1/3/2011 @ 10:25PM I just discovered tommorow I have school!
I never have interest in history or science or math or anything else, my only true passion is of being a Lawyer. I always win arguements. I always find up some good-nice cute excuse to the teachers of letting me an extra day to complete my project or that my flash-drive with all my documents dropped out of my backpack in my carpool ride or whatever. I know, I need to have very good grades to pass the exams in highschool to get in a lawyer school, and of me just winning arguements and being a good liar is only a probability of 2% of being a lawyer (I can be specific, but I just want to get down to the point).
1) I always forget of completing assignments on time (I rarely do complete them on the assigned day).
2) I always get distracted by the internet, watching videos on youtube or going on failblog.org or whatever, I'm just...I don't know, I'm LAZY to get up, be a man and deal with my homework and complete them.
3) I just need some tips or adivce or even some criticizm of whats wrong with me or what I need to do!
4) I have a MAJOR, and when I say MAJOR, I seriously mean MAJOR habbit of completing homework at night (2:00AM-4:00AM), and I despite myself for doing this because I need minimum 6 hours a day to sleep or else I become tired and fall-asleep during classes.
5) What I would greatly appreciate, and I really will do as much possible as I can on answers.yahoo.com to reward or assist that person in my power that has been through the same phase that I am currently in and replies to me with feelings he/she at that time and how he/she overcame it.
I will at the end always do my homework at midnight, and I'm just tired of this habbit!

You are a normal kid. With diff rent needs. Here are a few tips. Get a small timer and time yourself. Set aside a set time to start and finish home work. Do you have a watch? This is a very help full tool as well. Keep your school work organized use folders. Keep your environment as organized as possible. Relaxing music is also very help full. If you have ADD by law you are not to be held to the same standards as the other students. Tell your parents to go to the school and have the modify your requirements on an IEP the Individualized Education Plan to enable you to have less home work. No child should be up struggling so late at night with home work.

I found a Jan-sport one at Target ,and I put tons of things in it(to see how much it fit) I had 3 one inch binders,a small dictionary,pens,pencils, mechanical pencils(a 24 count box) crayons ,colored pencils,markers,glue-sticks,index cards,small stapler,highlighters, post it Notes,clip board, and I think more stuff.(I toke it all out and it fit the baskets you carry)

but it was 29.99 and I don't know how good they really are.

Anyways I want one the can fit all those things in(I could put 6 one inch binders in the back)

So is there any cheaper backpacks that will last form September 7-may/June 2011( It says June on the school district website but for the past few years seniors graduate in the end of May)

Something non-cartoon since everyone else has them(its like there little kids carrying around dora all the time, even the guys lol)

Jan sport is a good backpack, I've had mine for 3 years and nothings broken on it yet. You can get them at Target like you said, or an office supply store. Usually the office stores have more choices on colors and stuff. Normal, straight forward colors. And some cool patterns.

Do you like baby front carriers, backpacks, wraps, mobi wraps or mei tai wraps?

Whats the easiest and most comfy wrap? or do you just carry your baby without one?

The worst I have tried is the babybjorn. HATE it. I don't think it is designed well for baby or for mom's back. I used it ONCE when my baby was less then 8 lbs & my back hurt within 15 mins. Not good. It was adjusted well, I knew it was as I had a good friend with me letting me borrow it. She had used it a lot. Plus it's pretty basic, not too hard to figure out. We readjusted & readjusted, I just hated it. My favorite overall is the Ergo, hands down. But each type has pros & cons & some are better for certain ages & depending on what you want from your carrier. If you want handsfree nursing with small babies then a stretchy wrap like Moby is the right answer. If you want to be able to wear baby for a wide array of ages & weights & for longer periods of time, then an Ergo is a better suggestion. It is more about what YOU want from a carrier then which carrier is best. Ergos are bulky - so they are hard to just tote along "in case". Ones that tote well are rind slings, peanut shell styles or continuous loop slings, but you need to be careful of those styles with very small babies & make sure they are positioned well. Mei tais' are more of a carrier then a wrap & are awesome if you want something that you can wear for a bit, is a bit more take along "just in case" as it's less bulky then an Ergo & they come in a ton of really gorgeous fabrics.

Like I said I do love my ergo - but the drawbacks are this...they aren't as pretty as many of the other types, they are definitely bulky, so it's not easy to just bring it along in case you might want to use it. i do keep mine in the car a lot, but even tucking it in the basket under the stroller fills the whole basket for me just about. They also are a bit pricey compared to some of the others. The pros are that it really does put the weight onto your hips, not your back. My 5 yr old can still fit in it & he is average size for age AND he is almost half my weight. I can carry him fine. My legs will burn, but my back doesn't feel a thing. You are NOT supposed to put a child that heavy in there, but it was at Disney & the little one was sleeping in the stroller & the big one was VERY tired...so you make due right? Anyway, it is rated to 45 lbs. It is also easy for me to put on my tiny petite frame (as in 100lbs) & in no time I can take it off, hand it to Dh & he can adjust it to fit his nearly 6 ft frame in just a minute. He had no trouble using it from day one. By that I mean he wasn't bothered by it because it wasn't girly AND he had no trouble getting it adjusted without instruction or confusion & my 1st son was worn by daddy a LOT. We have had ours nearly 5 yrs. We have used it & I have loaned twice to relatives. It has been laundered a LOT & it still looks basically new, despite being under almost constant use. My 1st child was in it EVERY day literally. It is how I got things done. He liked to be held, I needed to move. The only thing an Ergo won't do is allow a child to be in front forward facing. There is some controversy about having a baby set that way in a structured carrier anyway though, as many warn it could put pressure on the spine & hips to have them set on their crotch. I the ergo they set on their butt & their legs kind of wrap around you versus hang.

he funny thing I ONLY had an ergo with my 1st child & he loved it & so did I. baby #2 comes along & I thought a Moby would be nice for newborn stage - he hated it. So I got a slingling (continuous loop) and a friend let me borrow her babybjorn, then I got a Mei Tai (Baby Hawk) & Maya Wrap (ring sling), (I think this is when I needed rehab - but anyway), then I got one of the hip hold type (can't remember the name brand) and I got fed up! My child didn't love any of them & neither did I. When I first put him in the Ergo & he didn't really like it the way my 1st had - it never occurred to me that he might not like CARRIERS. Well that was it. He tolerated the Ergo better than any of the other ones I bought & we went back to that - plus that one felt good to my back & was easy to put on alone & take off. So I liked them all for different reasons (other than the bjorn) - but my baby hated them for some mysterious reason I cannot quantify. I have sold most of them or given them away & the only one I won't is my ergo. Until my ovaries shrivel & fall out, I will hold onto it "in case" because when it works, it works so well. My 2nd finally decided to like carriers when he was around 10 months old & at 26 months is now a pro in the ergo. When he wants in he calls it giddyup. :)

Why is my cat peeing in the house and not using the litter now?

My eldest cat (7 and a half) has always used the litter, but for the past year, she has not been using it, and goes outside now.

We keep her in during the evening and night and of course, she cannot hold it for 12-14 hours. About a third of the time, when we get up in the morning, she has peed somewhere in the house. Half the time it's on the draining board, but if we have left washing up on it, she pees on the floor.

We have laminate flooring, but still, this week, we didn't see the pee and my daughter stepped in it and her school bag fell in it, and also the other day, she did it near the patio doors, and the curtains dragged in it!!! And last week, my laptop was 3" away from it. We are having to make sure everything is off the floor!

Why does she do this? :( It's really grating on us all now. On occasions, the pee gets onto one of the big rugs in our house and when this happens: the house smells of cat pee! The litter is clean, so it isn't that, and she won't go in it: even when it's brand new and 100% clean.

We have a private rent house with a private landlord and therefore cannot put a cat flap in as she won't let us.

I would encourage you to take her to the vet for a complete check up to rule out any medical conditions. If she gets a clean bill of health then I have a couple of questions for you first. How many cats and how many litter boxes do you have? The rule of thumb is to have one litter box for each cat and to clean them every day, preferably twice per day. Many times, cat's won't go in a dirty litter box. Has anything changed? Did you move, get a new pet, new person living in the house? Do you have a covered litter box? If you have a covered litter box you may want to consider using an open one. Many cat's don't like a covered litter box. You could also try a cat litter called Cat Attract. It's a great litter that clumps really well and the best thing is it's virtually dust free, plus it has an attractant in it at will draw your cat to the litter box. If things have changed in your house and your cat is stressed you may want to try a product called Feliway. It will help reduce your cat's stress and hopefully stop the peeing all over the house. these are tips that i've been giving freshmen lately...
TIPS:
- don't be scared/nervous/worried... high school is not that big of a deal
- get a map of the school so you don't get lost... but don't walk around the school with it in front of your face
- don't ask upperclassmen for help if you're lost (ask a teacher or friend) cuz they might point you in the wrong direction
- don't stop in the middle of the hallways
- join clubs/sports... trust me it's an easy way to make friends and it looks good on college applications
- don't run to lunch
- don't be intimidated by upperclassmen
- don't tell your boyfriend you 'love' him in the same week you started dating him.
- on the first day don't wear you hollister shirt, hollister pants, hollister flipflops, and carrying your hollister bag... you will have freshman written all over you and don't wear too much makeup/accesories... just wear something simple but cute :) and honestly nobody gives a crap about what you wear
- it is possible to fall UP the stairs... lol. but if this (or something like this) does happen don't be embarrassed... just laugh at yourself and walk away cuz its no big deal
- please don't be an immature freshman
- make good grades (don't screw it up freshman year cuz you WILL regret it)
- don't come to school on the first day with your huge backpack full of colored pencils, glue sticks, tissue boxes... you don't need all that crap you're in high school now. all you need for the first day is paper, pencils, and a folder
- there is no pool on top of the school
- if someone offers you an elevator pass.... don't buy it!!!
- don't be the annoying kid who always cracks immature jokes in class. teachers hate that. always be nice to the teachers cuz one day when you are a senior they will help you write college reccomendation letters and you will be glad that you behaved in their class.
- don't decorate your locker (nobody at my school decorates them)
- don't start talking to random uppperclassmen like they are your best friend
- don't talk about your UPPERCLASSMEN friends cuz you can tell someone is a freshman when they say "my SENIOR friend..... blah blah blah" it doesn't matter what grade they are in! all of your friends are PEOPLE.
- don't talk about how "cool" you think you are cuz your finally in high school
- upperclassmen have other things to worry about and they could care less about freshmen.... if people do pick on you they will most likely be sophomores: they think they have the right to pick on you cuz they're not freshman anymore..... but i think if a sophomore picks on you that is pathetic cuz they are only a year older than you.
- be prepared for freshman friday!!!! nahhh i'm just kidding it doesn't exist.... and any rumors you hear are all FAKE! nothing scary happens... and high school is nothing like the movies.

Anyway, onto your question - The site you visited is a travel site which has a section for each city listed, dealing with "dangers or warnings." You can enter "Sydney", "London" or "Thailand" or "Queenstown" into the destination search bar and click on the "Dangers or Warning" link for any of those cities and OF COURSE you're going to see a bunch of negative posts written by people from their own personal experiences. It's the case for any city on that site.

One person even describes Queesntown as New Zealand's most dangerous city in the "Dangers and Warnings" section of Queenstown's page.

Any city you research using the "Dangers and Warnings" feature of that site is going to look bad for various different reasons.

As for the specific things people are saying on that site about Auckland, I don't agree with anything written there except for the comments about Aucklanders being poor drivers. The driving here is pretty shocking.

As for the gangs and the mentions of American gangs like "Bloods" and "Crips" as referenced by the colours red and blue, I've never heard about or experienced anything relating to such gangs.

I've lived in Auckland for more than 20 years and aside from once having my wallet taken from a bag I left sitting in a different room while at high school, I've never even had anything stolen.

I've never been assaulted or abused in the street by "thugs."

Based on my personal experience, the things mentioned on that site aren't even true.

Auckland is safer than most big cities. But of course bad things happen here like they do everywhere. So just be as vigilant as you would be in any other city. Use your common sense and you'll be fine.

Candy is a must, I mean, who doesn't love candy?! Glow sticks are always fun, I love to take them with me when I'm trick or treating, but try like, 3 in each bag, because they eventually stop glowing... And maybe a pen or pencil. I know I'm always looking for one at school, so that might help.

We assume that because teens are so young, the only topics on your mind should be school, music, fun stuff, etc. Yet, adults struggle with weight for many reasons and they usually begin in their childhood. What would you like adults or other teens to know about struggles with weight? Is it all hype? How does the weight struggle start?

Some people say it's genetic, but I think it's an excuse to let yourself become 100-300 pounds overweight. It's a pathetic excuse. You don't just magically become fat because everyone else in your family is fat.

Whenever I go to fast food and I see someone wolfing down three hamburgers, I think to myself "And you wonder why you're fat?" or at the movie theaters when I see someone with the biggest size bin of popcorn, a giant slurpee and a couple boxes of candy, I think to myself "And you wonder why you're fat?"

Three hamburgers are not genetics, it's a choice. You chose to eat three hamburgers. You choose two eat seconds and thirds of massive portions of food. You choose to get a extra grande frappucino with extra carmel and whip cream instead of a skinny mocha. You choose not to exercise or push yourself when exercise. None of that is because the rest of your family is fat.

Teens think that just because they're skinny now they can eat whatever they want, but that's not true. It's going to pay off later when you don't know what a healthy portion is or know the difference between subsituting half a tub of ice cream for strawberries dipped in chocolate or making your own yogurt parfait.

My parents were very overweight, and so were my brother and I, only my brother and I didn't show it because we have fast metabolisms. Growing up McDonald's was somewhere we ate on a daily basis. At night, we would eat an entire bag of candy while watching tv. We would always eat steak and potatoes, and we whatever we ate we would have our plates full of mounds of food, like a mountain of spaghetti.

Several years ago my parents begin using Nutrisystem. When they began exercising, all they could manage to do was a lap around the street. Eventually, they were able to walk a lap around the block. They began learning portion control and ate smaller meals. They began walking the track and walking up and down the stairs. They lost about 50 pounds when they decided to quit Nutrisystem and learn how to eat healthy on their own.

Our portions were smaller and what we ate was much, much healthier. We tried to find healthier options for school lunches rather than the junk food we ate. We ate more sandwiches and more fruit. Apples and yogurt are now staples to our daily snacks. My parents quit drinking (which is TERRIBLE to drink when you're trying to lose weight!) and stopped going to fast food restaurants. When we eat out, we subsitute french fries for salad and fruit. We avoid greasy and fattening food. Now my parents jog and can hike for miles.

My brother and I aren't as strict as my parents. We still love to eat fast food and drink at Starbucks and eat ice cream and candy, but not nearly as much as we did growing up. We don't really exericse, but it's something we're still trying to work on.

My advice for teens who are struggling with weight is to find a support group or a buddy who can lose weight and exercise with you. It's so much easier to lose weight when you know you're not alone. Self-discipline is extremely hard but once you've learned how to say no overeating and eating poorly it becomes much easier. You have to be able to go out to a restaurant and be able not to pick the unhealhiest meal on the menu. You have to be able not to be eating 24/7. It's really hard, but it takes alot of dedication.

Also, there's a difference between "laminating sheets" or pouches (which are used with pressure and heat) and just the self-adhesive sheets of clear plastic sold by the small or larger box at office supply stores which can also be used in the general definition of "laminating" ---these would be the equivalent of having an 8 1/2 x 11" sheet of clear packing tape, with a removable backing sheet stuck to it.
I always have a box of these around because they come in so handy for many little laminating jobs.

Here are the self-adhesive laminating sheets I'm talking about, like these by Avery:

To use one of these over a small cardstock/paper/plastic card while still leaving a border of clear lamination on all sides, one way to do it would be to:
...Cut a rectangle from the plastic sheet (still on its backing paper) that's a little wider than the width of the card (long edge), and twice as long as its short side plus a little more.
...Peel off the backing sheet and lay the adhesive plastic down sticky side facing up.
...Place the card on the plastic near the bottom but with a bit of a margin left.
...Then carefully fold the rest of the clear sheet down over the card *leaving a margin at the top where the sticky sheet will stick only to itself*... kind of roll it down so you won't get any wrinkles you can't smooth out with a fingernail.
...Now trim away with scissors any of the extra lamination you don't want on the 3 non-folded sides, and run a fingernail or butter knife around the margins next to the card to completely seal it in.

You can also do this *without leaving any excess lamination* around the edges by folding the lamination sheet tightly to the card in the foldover step, and trimming away *all* the excess clear sheet, but that may leave the very edges susceptible to water, etc.


You can then punch a hole in the lamination border only, or in the card-and-lamination area, with a hole punch then add a ball chain or some kind of cording, etc.

I've done this kind of thing before often, and it works well.

P.S. If actual packing tape is wide enough for what you want and you have some around, it can be handled and cut more easily if you lay a long piece of it onto waxed paper first (which substitutes for the backing paper of purchased laminating sheets).

I work in a NON profit and we give to some of our clients (the ones in most financial need) some backpacks for their children) it is basic stuff, but what are some of the items REALLY necessary for elementary school age backpacks.

and for Teenager years backpacks.

For elementary school kids: lined paper (probably wide ruled would be best), a simple box of crayons or colored pencils (small boxes, they don't need 64 different crayons), scissors, and some pencils.

For teenagers: college ruled paper, mechanical pencils, extra lead, and pens (probably red, blue, and black)

Also you could get a simple one-dollar pencil case, a few folders, and maybe a few binders if you can. An extra eraser is helpful but not absolutely needed. Highlighters can be given but they are not necessary, as most teachers will let students underline as oppose to highlight.

The most profitable is always that awful catalog full of wrapping paper, candy, candles, gifty things which everyone hates getting in their child's backpack, hates showing around to their friends, but we send it out every fall & it makes up the bulk of our budget every year. This year we went with Kathryn Beich.

The ones that are easiest to sell, though, are consumables that families will use - cookie dough, pizza, pies. They're quick & easy sales, especially if you work with Market Day or one of the major fundraising companies like that. The only real staffing that's needed is on pickup day. Biggest worry with it is if someone does not pick up their order & you're left with perishables.

We added plant sales this year & they have gone well so far. Quick, easy money, working with a local greenhouse - mums in the fall (we're going to add bulbs next fall), poinsettias in December - not sure what we're going to do for spring, yet.

Another spring fundraiser we want to add this year is 'Family Portrait Day' (or weekend, if we get a big enough response). Someone's child's preschool did this & they said it was a big success - we're hoping it will work for us, too. Get a local photographer to give you a discounted price for sittings & prints - maybe $5 sitting fee, $8 for a sheet of prints. Mark it up for the school's profit - $8 sitting, $10 prints?, maybe. Then, families sign up for time slots at the school on Family Portrait Day. Photos can be shot indoors or out, depending on weather & background. They come in, get a family portrait done, then prints are sent home in backpacks for families to decide what to buy, what to order, what to send back.
