If you went to a venue or a kids hangout, what would you want to buy or see there for sale? I want to make a business based on products for teenagers and younger musicians and bands. So far i am selling this: http://www.myspace.com/rockerproductions/photos/albums/soda-tab-bracelets-go-green/522583

Trying to make kids recycle and go green!!!

What are your ideas?

Answer
oh wow thats really nice. especially as its seen on kirsten stewart it would attract more teens. Im 14 years of age and i think bags for school or stuff would be really cool, like really unique, but nice bags? im a girl so i would like these kindof bags:
http://www.monsoon.co.uk/All-Day-Bags/Union-Jack-Weekend-Bag/invt/78958799

http://www.monsoon.co.uk/Weekend-Bags/Bluebelle-Walton-Printed-Weekend-Bag/invt/68951141

somehow personalised or something?

If you want recycled id suggest stuff thats green but stylish at the same time, like not nerdy :)

http://www.fredflare.com//customer/product.php?productid=4510&cat=108#

Or instead of bags somekind of jewellery, id love to see jewellery that eco, but stylish.
For eg, a necklace with a tree on it that would be quite cool?
Or a necklace with the earth on it but in a nice colour?

Hope my ideas help x

Which baseball bag will fit a batting helmet with a face guard?

Shelly

I'm looking for a reasonable baseball equipment bag that is large enough to fit a helmet with an attached face guard. It's for a 9 year old boy and should be able to hold 2 bats, 2 gloves the helmet, shoes, and balls. Not so large he can't handle it but something that will grow with him. He plays Fall ball as well as spring so it needs to be durable. --Thanks!

Answer
Well, I just played my last year of high school baseball, and my old batting bag's zipper broke so I chose to buy this one. I had cleats (size 12), my entire practice+game unifoforms, two gloves (11 and 12 inch), 10 baseballs, 2 (32inch) bats, a batting helmet, and usually 2 big Gatorade bottles. It was NEVER a problem, it's a very spacious bag. There's even a pocket for money, or sunlfower seeds etc. (it's the one under the nike plastic pouch, and in the back there is a netted pocket that adds quite a bit of extra room if you want to store some more baseballs or tape or w/e you may need) To save more space, just put some of the balls under his helmet but I doubt you'll have to. You can wear it as a backpack or just on one shoulder (which I preffered), both ways are comfortable. The dimensions are about...34in length X 10in width X 10 in height (just esimated). I used to have a helmet w/ faceguard in little league and my old batting bag could fit that, which was smaller than this one, so that's not a problem at all. It's very durable and you can't beat the price (you can get this at walmart too for about $30 if they still have it in stock).

Good luck!

What golf clubs should I look into getting?

Tommy

I'm a 14 year old boy that is about 5'9. I out grew my women's size clubs and now I need new men's ones. What is a good brand/model? I've heard the old ping eye 2's are really good, but I don't know a store that would still sell them. What would be good clubs? I play every weekend and will tryout for high school teams and I play for my grade school team. We don't want to spend a ton of money though. Thanks

Answer
You can look for used clubs at your local golf store, Golfsmith, Edwin Watts Golf or ebay. If you want new clubs do some shopping before you decide. Visit your golf pro shop, see what the pro recommends for you, and you can check out new sets at Dick's Sporting Goods. If you can try to hit the clubs before you buy, many stores have hitting cages, and they'll tape up the club for you to try out.

Other than the expensive top names like Ping, Titleist, TaylorMade and Callaway,-- Adams, Cobra, Wilson, Top Flite, and Dick's store brand Acuity all make excellent clubs. It's a matter of getting the right fit, and getting used to the clubs.

I've played with expensive Cobra, Cleveland and Mizuno clubs, and last year I hit a slump so I got a set of Acuity from Dick's and I'm playing really well with them. They were under $300 last year and on sale this year for around $199 for the whole set, woods, irons, putter and bag. Also Dick's bought the Top Flite Golf Company from Callaway last year, so they're coming out with some new quality Top Flite sets. Adams Golf also has good sets in several price ranges.

The only thing with used clubs, especially Ping, the USGA changed the rules on the grooves that are allowed in competition, so old Pings may not be allowed in your school competitions. Check with your school golf coach before buying used clubs.

When do kids start playing cricket and football

John S

At what age do children start getting into playing cricket and football? Our little boy is now seven, and hasn't yet shown any interest in playing these sports, or other sports.

Answer
hmm, I was a little bit like that until I was about 6. It's normal for a while.

Something that got me interested was video games, I had this Manager game from like '97 or something, which taught me the ins and outs of the game and stuff, these days FIFA or PES would be a good choice.

After a while I just naturally wanted to play , and there were all sorts of football schools available during the summer, like one run by a former man utd footballer.

A word of advice, don't rely on his school to get him involved cos it doesn't happen. All of the teachers are Female these days and you end up doing some poncy dancing, aerobics or games with bean bags and stuff, take him somewhere extra curricular.

Hope this helps, I'm 18 now btw.

You can find more of these by googling "Sorting hat quiz)

Planning the party:

Two to three weeks before the party begins:
Make Wizard Maps for invitations. Round the edges of parchment paper with scissors. Write the party details to Hogwarts School (AKA your house), using invisible ink felt pens (available at the craft stores). Roll the invitation into cylinders, insert into mailing tube, along with a decoder pen, and mail to Muggles.
Begin preparing the props, costumes, and decorations (see below).

Party Set-Up - A few hours before the party:
Welcome the guests with a sign at the front door that reads "Platform 9 3/4."
Decorate your party room like the Great Hall at Hogwarts School.
Make "snitches" by spray painting Styrofoam or rubber balls gold, then glue feathers on each side, and hang them from the ceiling.
Cover the walls and ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars, moons, and lightning bolts.
Set out stuffed toy owls, broomsticks, magic wands, and potions (candy-filled bottles).
Cover the table with a paper cloth featuring stars, moons, and lightning bolts, and add matching paper products.

More game ideas:
Play a version of Quidditch, Harry's favorite game, by providing the kids with a ball, some broomsticks, and a large area to play in. Divide the group into two teams, set up two goals on either side of the yard, and have the kids try to brush the ball over their own goal line.

Have a Harry Potter Trivia Contest and ask questions based on the book - or a 'Who Said What?' game based on Harry Potter quotes.

Have a Flavor Bean Tasting Contest. Buy a variety of jellybeans and place them in small paper cups covered with foil so they aren't visible. Pass one cup around at a time and have each player taste a jellybean without looking at it. Players must try to identify the flavors. You still I think can find actual bertie botts flavored jelly bellies at Barnes & Noble

Make Potter's Magic Potion by combining 2 cups white glue and 1 1/2 cups water together. Add a few drops of food coloring. In a separate container, dissolve 2 teaspoons borax in 2/3 cup warm water and mix well. Mix the borax and glue solutions together, and let the kids watch what happens to the mixture. Pass out handfuls and let the wizards work their magic. Wear smocks for this activity - it's messy, but fun!

Create your own own Wizard Capes and Magician Caps. For capes, cut length of inexpensive silky lining fabric and let the kids decorate it with felt-tip pens, glue-on glitter, and decals in the shape of stars, moons, and lightning bolts. For caps, give them lengths of felt, cut into rectangles. Fold the felt into a cone shape, staple it closed, trim off a straight edge, and decorate with glue-on sequins, glitter, puffy paints, and decals.

Serve Cauldrons of Snacks and Wash them down with Magic Potions:

Buy a plastic cauldron or use a black pot for serving the food. Fill it with soup, macaroni and cheese, or beef stew.

Serve "magic potions" in plastic goblets. Offer multicolored drinks - red, blue, green, orange - for added fun. Called them Rum-Runners.

Offer the guests a variety of Harry Potter snacks and treats - Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans (assorted jelly beans), Fizzing Whizbees Levitating Sherbet Balls (green and orange sherbet balls), Droobles Best Blowing Gum (blue gum), Creepy Chocolates (in the shape of frogs, bats, and rats), and Peppermint Humbugs (peppermint candies.)

Make Harry Potter cookies using a Harry Potter shaped cookie cutter.

Provide Harry Potter desserts, such as apple pie, trifle, jam donuts

Hope this list is helpful to you.

Regarding flight trip with a 6 month old?

Akshu

Hi I am taking my 6 month old boy to India this month end. What are the do's and dont's that I have to follow when i reach India(as its peak summer that time). Also let me know the facilities available for infants in Singapore airlines. What must i be prepared for the flight??
thanks so much in advance.
I am traveling from San francisco to Chennai

Answer
I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lot with my own three children. We usually travel between Europe and California about twice a year. I've never flown Singapore Airlines. We usually go the other direction. I've worked trips into Delhi but I haven't been to Chennai.

Six months is actually a good age to travel. It gets trickier when they can run! You may have him crawling all over the place but for the most part, you'll be able to keep up with him.

The one thing I know about Singapore Airlines is that you're sure to get good customer service. They have HUGE crews. I was floored when I saw their armies of F/A's coming off flights. Many are teenagers. There are not the age limitations that you find on western companies so don't be shocked to see kids just out of school serving you.

I have never used any sort of medications to get my children to sleep on any of those flights. At that age especially, they do nodd off at some point of the journey, more if it's at night.

I also think he's too young for a portable DVD player. I got one when my youngest was 3 years old. They are kind of heavy to cart around and could easily break. How much screen watching does he do? Mine were not very interested, especially with a small screen, at that age.

Bring a few quiet toys but a small selection. Again, short attention spans and he'll be more interested in his new surroundings.

First of all, I really recommend bringing a car seat and using it onboard. Make sure your car seat is approved for use on aircraft. Unfortunately, Singapore Airlines does not allow infant bucket-style seats or any rear-facing seats. As you know, your child is safer rear-facing as a Flight Attendant, I'm a little at a loss as to why they even have this rule;
http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/content/before/plan/specialneeds.jsp#Header5

If you can use your seat on board, the seat will get to your destination without risking it being damaged or lost in luggage.

If you don't have a seat for him, request it at check-in. Ask if the flight is full, and if not, they can "block" the seat next to you, only using it if they really need it. They often do this for families.

Bring the seat to the gate, even if they are unsure that you'll get a seat. This way, if you don't manage it, they will "gate check" your seat, sending it down with the strollers and wheelchairs. This is gentlier than checking it in at the desk.

I also recommend trying to sit at the bulkhead. These are the seats with the wall in front, located in different places depending on the aircraft. Bulkheads are easier with children since no one is leaning in front of you and there's probably room to crawl on the floor.

If you have a travel system, you can use the stroller until you get to the door of the aircraft and then it'll be "gate checked".. You'll have it again, by the door of the aircraft when you arrive. If you have a convertible car seat (going to 40lbs), there are a number of contraptions you can use to wheel it around. Not promoting these sites! Just examples;
http://www.gogobabyz.com/products/gogo_kids.html
http://www.amazon.com/Traveling-Toddler-Attach-Rolling-Carry/dp/B000JHN3AS
http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/363756.html

I simply strap mine to a small metal luggage cart and that works great.

If you do have a stroller, bring a bungee cord and double secure it before leaving it at the door of the plane. They can get damaged if they pop open en route. Make sure the claim ticket can be seen and isn't squished or hidden. Be sure to ask when disembarking where the stroller is.

Bring at least 1/3 more diapers than you think you'll need. I saw so many parents run out on flights when I was working! Wrap them in plastic bags and throw a bunch of rubber bands around them to save room in your carry-on.

For a formula fed baby, I really recommend using the bottles with plastic liners. Traditional bottles are too difficult to wash onboard because of the kind of sinks on airplanes. I premeasured the powder and rolled them up, placing the rolls in a ziplock bag. Then you throw the liners away as you use them and only have the ring and nipple to clean.

If you use bottled water, be sure to give yourself enough time to buy some once you're past security. Make sure you have enough! The water on the aircraft is filtered tap so decide if you're comfortable using that for your baby. Bottled water runs out fast on flights and we never had any extra for baby bottles.

Be sure you baby does not need the bottle warmed. Get him used to a room-temperature bottle before leaving. This is unnecessary health-wise and a real pain to do while travelling. I warmed many bottles on my flights but I wasn't there in the check-in line, the security line or the waiting area! Babies do great with room-temperature bottles.

Make sure you have at least one change of clothes. I would bring two for such a long journey. At that age, I simply dressed mine in sleep suits for flying. No one will care so keep him comfortable. Bring extra socks if he crawls so that he doesn't pick up anything nasty on the floor and to keep his hands clean.

Hopefully you have a good baby carrier. They're so useful for flying, especially at this age. I had a sling but other parents swear by their wraps and pouches. The Ergo and Beccos are other popular carriers for travel that go on the back.

I liked the sling because I could slide my babies from into and out of a stroller or car seat without waking them. It also doubled as a blanket, baby changer, breastfeeding cover-up and sunshade! My sling was magic for calming my babies during the flight. Other parents wanted one when they saw how easy it made my travels. Avoid front packs like the Bjorn since they're so bad for both the parents' and child's back. A good carrier should go to at least age 2.

Many flying tips say to make the child suck on something or drink during take-off and landing. This isn't accurate. ENT specialists say to have the child awake about an hour before landing (top of descent, landing or touch-down is too late).

http://www.entcda.com/AAOHNSF/earsandaltitude.htm

I can confirm that is when I saw problems at work. Take your child to the doctor in the last few days before you fly to make sure his ears are clear and infection-free. Heathy ears can handle pressurization changes.

About 8 years ago, I wrote an article on flying with children for an expat newsletter. Over the years many parents have contributed, both on line and in Real Life. I later put it on a blog so that parents had access to non-commercial information from someone with both practical and professional experience on the web.

http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com

Hope it goes smoothly and have a good trip!

im 16 and i tend to always get bags under my eyes. I use concealer to make it less noticable but i have contacts so i rub my eyes quite a bit throughout the day.My bags are purple too. Is it because of lack of sleep? I usually sleep at like 11-1130 on school days and wake up at 7 15.

Answer
teenagers need more sleep than adults. Teenagers need 8 1/2 to 9 hours of sleep every night. Try going to sleep at 9:30-10:00 if you're going to be waking up at 7:00.
Also, on the weekends, keep your sleep schedule. And, when you OVER sleep, it can make you even MORE tired (you'll look it, too)

I had the same problem, but i had it when i was around 13. I'm 17 and it kinda has gone away, When i'm tired they come back, of course, and they are kinda sorta there all the time (just not purple all the time, mostly just and indentation)

it might be the way your face is. If you have big eyes or something, that may just be the way your face is formed.

Try putting ice on them or cold spoons to reduce the swelling under your eyes. thats what i used to do.

OH! and i would buy those creams that are made for older people who are starting to get bags and dark circles under their eyes, but i was 13! They work if you use them continuously. You can buy them at any drug store- i got mine at kmart, target, etc.

What are good ways to volunteer as a teenager?

Q. im 16 and i want to know some really good ways of volunteering. i've always wanted to be a candy stripper but i cant think of any other ways.

Answer
Our local food bank would be glad for your assistance.

Your local church might be able to connect you to a meals on wheels program. They have to pack the lunches/meals prior to them being delivered.

My church has a food pantry that always needs help unpacking the food and making the bags that are going to be distributed.

Your local after-school program or Boys and Girls Club can always use teen volunteers to work with the children. Some pre-school programs and kindergarten classes might welcome your coming in to read to the children. They may also have a peer program in your school. They would pair you with younger students to be a mentor. Ask in your school library. Some younger children might need homework and schoolwork assistance.

You aren't old enough to work in the kitchen of a soup kitchen without supervision but you can help set up the tables and assist in cleanup.

As a teenager they have to be careful for your safety so you may meet some resistance. You will need to be persistent and sincere.

It makes me proud to hear a young person ask so powerful a question. Your parents/caregivers should be very proud.

Good Luck.

in Huck Finn, What changes are shown throughout the novel in regards to its tone and Huck's character?

soupfan95

What changes are shown throughout the novel in regards to its tone and Huck's character?

Answer
Chapters 1-7: Twain starts the book by providing a notice to readers that the book is a continuation of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" that takes place between the year 1864 and 1865. He warns the reader that several dialects are used in the book, including "Penjooby," a pidgin form of Jamaican spoken widely by slaves in the nineteenth century south.

As the book begins, Huck, the narrator, tells us that he and Tom have recently found a large chest full of gold and valuable French postcards, and that now he is living with Widow Douglas--who has taken him in as her son-- in her apartment. His father, he tells us, went to the store for tobacco and whiskey, but never returned. He lets us know that, though he misses him a little after five years of separation, his father often beat him when he was drunk and he would often hide in the woodshed when his father was at home.

Widow Douglas tries to educate Huck, but Huck makes little progress. Huck has other interests, though: He describes a four-story tree-house he has built that includes an ingenious bathroom with crude indoor plumbing. This is Twain's way of letting readers know Huck is gifted.

Huck, Tom Sawyer, and two other boys meet regularly in the tree-house to hold a meeting of their club, "The Gang of Four." Tom leads the adventures and pranks, but Huck grows bored of their play, saying " "Taint no fun no-how to be make-believin' all the time; I'm-a-itchin' to have some real adventures!" The adventures soon follow:

Suddenly, Pap shows up drunk at Widow Douglas' apartment threatening to take Huck's money. He beats Huck viciously with a Hickory stick and assaults the Widow with a curler-tin and several antimacassars, then he hauls Huck's battered body off in his ox-cart. When Huck comes to, he strikes his father on the back of the head with half-filled sack of buckwheat and Pap is run over by the wheels of the cart. As his father's body lays lifeless in the wheel-rut, Huck heads for the Mississippi. Near the shore, he is able to obtain a birch-bark canoe and provisions from a local Indian woman, trading them for an old vest button, a tin pennywhistle and some used sealing wax. Before he heads down the river, he cleverly stages his own murder: He kills a deer with his pistol, then smears blood around the shoreline. He tears up his jacket and covers it with blood also, then leaves it beneath a tree.

He quickly loads the canoe with his basic provisions--a gallon of kerosene, a large bag of iodized salt, a jar of Gherkins, a toilet-rag, a tube of petroleum jelly, and a some rancid cooking oil--and heads out on the river.

Chapters 8-18: Huck reaches "Belle Isle," an island downriver, where he feels liberated. He is still close enough to his departure point to see his friends when they come searching for his body and he takes great pleasure in seeing how troubled they are about him having been killed. He discovers he is not alone on the isle when he happens upon the escaped slave, Jim, who he finds playing solitaire whilst he awaits a strike from a Mississippi Sheephead--a much sought-after river fish--on his fishing line. The pair become friends, playing poker and gambling with their meager provisions. Jim teaches Huck some "black magic," which Huck respects more than anything he has learned in school. Using it, Huck casts a spell on Pap--a spell that would insure that, when he dies, his father will be reincarnated as a working pack-mule and forced to haul large loads of raw gypsum for another lifetime.

Curious about how his death is being received in town, Huck dresses like a girl and makes a trip there. In disguise, he finds out that there is a reward for Jim's return to his "owner," Miss Watson," He is conflicted about this, but decides to press on down the Mississippi, having built a raft on which he and Jim float away.

Jim tells Huck how he has always wanted to go to college and reveals that, if they make it to Toronto, the "promised land," he hopes to enroll at Ryserson University and earn a degree in steam-powered engineering.

Huck and Jim then have a mishap in which their raft, bound only by Columbian hemp rope, splits in half.. They become separated in the smog, and, when they finally are reunited, Jim declares his love for Huck, telling him that he is more precious than if he were his only begotten son, a Biblical reference.

He is also dwelling on the past about things said to him by his oldest brother. I have tried to talk to him nothing seems to work.

Answer
A selection of treatments follow: If you can't deal with it by using one of the techniques, such as counting backwards from 20, to 1, (and prevent you from allowing yourself to become angry, in the first place) is important to express that anger appropriately, at the time, and to the person who caused it, if possible, or immediately afterwards. If not, maybe by walking away later, and bellowing your rage and/or frustration. In some situations, such as work, or school, it might be better to cover your mouth with a cupped hand, bandanna/handkerchief, or use the crook of your elbow, to muffle the sound. Some people find that it helps to journal those thoughts, and emotions soon afterwards.

Anger, which is repressed, rather than healthily expressed, tends to fester, and later may cause explosive fits of rage, or depression. Let yourself feel the burning energy of that anger, and visualise it, as vividly as possible, as a hot flame cleansing you. It can help to have someone you can talk to. For more physically inclined people, a punching bag, or hitting your pillow, can be an effective release mechanism: visualise, as vividly as you can, that you are striking back at the cause of that anger. "But next time, when you get mad, just remember this quote: 'Those who anger you, conquer you.' It's basically saying that when you give someone the power to make you mad, or let it get to you, it's like they're controlling you.

When I realized that, it made me mad, so I try to control my anger and not let people see it. You can still control your anger without being walked all over. You just have to draw a line." Try saying to yourself, in your mind: "I am fire! I am ice!". Repeat for as long as it takes for you to calm down sufficiently. Anger management is addressed in much more detail than can be included here, in section 4, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and practice daily, one of the relaxation methods in sections 11, 2, 2.c, or 2.i Most people find the progressive muscular relaxation simple, and it can be done in several minutes. Others prefer to repeat a word, like "easy" in their minds, or a short phrase, and focusing your attention on your breath is another technique. You will know from the ease of use, and effect, which suits you best. The EFT, in section 53, is worth trying, too.

A variant of Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective, is on page N, of section 6, and I use it before the relaxation techniques, because I have found that it makes them quicker to employ, and more effective. These will enable you to emotionally centre yourself, when practiced regularly. Yoga, and/or T'ai Chi can also help you become a calmer, more self controlled person, who is less influenced by the behaviour of others. When I was a little boy I like to go outside and play in the yard. As a boy I had toy trucks and cars I kept in my book bag. All my friends and cousins would come to my house to play video games. As a boy I liked to climb the tree in my backyard. As a boy, I never liked to eat my vegetables. I was a child that had a lot of hair. I was very social and liked to talk to other children and adults. My friends were a mix of boys and girls and they were all a lot of fun. I could sleep in as late as i wanted when i was really little. My mom would make me sit at the table until I ate them. That really did not work because I would just sit there. Our neighborhood had a lot of kids, and we spent all summer playing.
We considered an entire two or three blocks to be our private playground, playing hide-and-seek or war. When I went to school I played basketball will all the bigger kids. I used to play soccer for my school. I was very misbehaved as a little boy. I was always in timeout and detention. At recess everyone would play softball so I would try to play but the older kids would always take my turn. Then they saw I was really good so they let me play.
In the summer I would go to camp with my brothers for the whole summer. At camp I played capture the flag and had water balloon fights. At camp we did a lot of fun activities and games. When we got back home everyone would want to know how it went. As a boy, me and my friends would ride ours bikes around the neighborhood and have races. I would always win and we all got left with scares. We had a dog when I was younger as well. The dog was very rough and playful. The first time I saw him, he knock me over. Summer was always a wonderful time. The swimming pool always opened the Monday after school was out, and Malcom and I were always allowed to use the one dollar refund of our school book deposit fee to buy a summer's season ticket at the swimming pool. The pool was across town, just past the football field, not far from the city park
In the winters I remember always playing in the snow. We had snow ball fight and made snowmen. When I was younger there was a big blizzard and the snow was over my head. One day school got canceled and my mom made my favorite. Then me and my brothers went out to play in the snow. I put on my favorite boots.
As a boy I went to Disney World with my school. We went to all the amusement parks and ate at a lot of restaurants. The rides were all fun and the food was delicious. Me and my friend got lost for a couple hours and everyone was looking for us.Then my parents came and took me and my brothers to Universal Studios. All the rides there were fun too like the roller coaster.
When I got a little older I started to play football. I was in little league and I had never played before. I was fast so the coaches put me some where on the field. Then started to really like football.

you should definitely go to forever 21 they have those things.

how do you keep your room clean?

Q. I ask this because i have the habit of being messy not just with my room but with my book bag, binder, locker. What do you do to keep your room clean?

Answer
Have less stuff. It's easier to keep your clothes closet neat if you only have the clothes you actually wear in there. If you have dress clothes and costumes, consider putting them in a canvas hanging bag, or a storage box, so they do not clutter up your daily clothes. Its better to have fewer clothes and do laundry regularly, or put it away right away, than to have a lot of clothes that get spilled all over for you to toss in the air looking for the shirt you are supposed to wear for some activity.

Have a place for everything, and regularly put everything in it's place. It helps considerably if you have more places than things.

Have some empty space--an empty shelf, an empty drawer, an empty coathook, some empty hangers. When things get hectic, this makes it much easier to put things away. .

Have routines.

When you come home from school, empty your pockets into a basket or bowl or tray on your desk. This will prevent losing money or important notes in the laundry, or having to check dirty clothes and every jacket and coat you own to find your wallet, keys, other important things you carry daily.

When you do your homework, unpack your bookback completely, sort out trash, money, loose papers, etc. After you are finished neaten everything and pack your bookbag neatly. Try to always use the same pockets for calculator, pencils, etc.

Some routines can be pattern planned. For example:

On Monday, deal with Money (make sure you have lunch money, for the week, etc.)
On Tuesday, deal with Trash (bring a bag to round up trash from lockers, clean out trash from desk, empty trash bin in your room)
On Wednesday...whatever begins with W in your world...and so on.

You can also have several easy routines during the day.

Before school routine--it's enough to get to school on time--try to make your bed and pick up things that got kicked underneath..books, games, shoes, socks, phone, alarm clock...
After school routine--sort your pockets and bookbag--make a mental note of your homework and review vocabulary words or other things you must memorize for the next quiz.
Before Dinner Routine--carry dishes you may have in your room to the kitchen.
After Dinner Routine--review vocabulary words, and other things you must memorize. Gather up things that belong in your room that you may have scattered about, and pick up stuff that does not belong on your floor or bed.
Homework Routine--
Before Bed Routine--check the weather forecast and lay out your clothes for tomorrow, take a minute to put dirty clothes in the hamper, put away clean laundry, generally neaten your closet, charge phone or gadgets. If you review those vocabulary words etc one more time, I guarantee you an A on the quiz. You will also retain what you've learned longer.

We all follow the same routine everyday. Some routines are functional but some routines are dysfunctional. I had the dysfunctional routine of madly circling my home looking for my keys, in every pocket, and "funny place" every time I left the house until I got the functional routine of always putting them on a hook on the door. It seems fussy to start a new routine, but once it becomes habit, you do the functional thing as effortlessly as you used to drop things where they fell.

If you have difficulty establishing a home for something important, you can tape a piece of bright paper with big letters {PHONE} in the place where you want to keep it. It will remind you to go find the phone in the couch cushions or wherever you dropped it, and put it in its place. When the habit is secure, you can remove the paper.

kai_wahine

the families I'm visiting are low income and live in the rural south of india.

Answer
Hey come on guys, those are our families try to give your best to them....they might be worth of it. I have 70% of my family relatives live in Villages only. I visited India almost 5 times in 6 years. Each time I gave them different items. I preferred in the following way,

For woman --- The leather tiny hand bags which has mirror in it
For young woman staying at home---nice fancy items such as hair clips, nail polish etc
For young woman who goes to school---Nice pencil sharpeners, something useful for their studies
For middle age man---Buy some Nice cigerettes, or Cigars etc..if they smoke otherwise nice shirts of different sizes (m,l,xl)
For young man--- A belt, purse, or even a shoe, sun glasses....etc
For old age-- better buy some pain relief stuff like Bengay, heating pads etc

For Kids----- Have some characters like spiderman, superman etc, some nice little playing, try to avoid battery based toys.....

OTHER THAN THAT...CHOCOLATES ARE COMMON, THEY LOVE IT, AND BUY SOME CALCIUM CHEWING TABLETS CHOC FLAVOR to give to some to women who are suffering with their menstrual problems....

Well, I always plan 2 months ahead and wander around shops in sale season to collect the things of my choice.

Top of these, I prefer to buy lot of cloths like T-shirts, shirts etc to give it some miscellaneous relatives.

How do I find a true meaning in life?

chris m

It seems that every day, every week, every month is the same. Wake up at 7, drive to work, come home at 6, eat dinner, do some work at home, watch a little tv at night, go to sleep. Then on the weekends, wake up, do the chores, do all the kid activities (drive them around, watch their games), pay the bills, go to a dinner or lunch party with friends, etc.

It seems that it is always like this. Are we supposed to do this until we die? I just feel like I'm missing something, like there's a meaning that i just can't find. What am i supposed to do?

Answer
This is going to be a long one, I think, so buckle up your safety belt.......to be continued.....

Here it goes......

Some times life can feel a bit like we're on a treadmill in a hamster cage endlessly running and getting nowhere. This feeling usually hit's people just before they are 30.

At 21 we realise that life isn't all going to fall in our laps the way we thought it would.

At 25 we get a bit worried about what the future holds and become aware that we are no longer "young" and nature betrays us by making thick black hairs grow from our nostrils....Nobody warned us about that when we were at school!

At 29 we start to ask questions like the one you've just asked. I did. Everyone does.

I view myself as lucky because I chose to stay single and not have kids. I question this choice frequently and in some ways I envy people like you when I see them getting on with the chores taking the kids out etc. The grass is always greener on the other side.....at least it is in our imaginations.

At 30 I went to India for a few months. I'd been injured at work (I was a prisoner custody officer) and lost my job after 6 months as it had not healed. I had to sell my flat (apartment) and fortunately made enough profit to go travelling. I had the feeling you describe in your question: that it feels as though there is no meaning.

I should have gone to Jerusalem but Ariel Sharon made it all kick off again in the week I sold my flat and I didn't want to put my family through that worry. So I went to India - home of the global fancy dress party. The locals don't hold the party, the tourists do - choosing to try to adopt spirituality by dressing up in the relevant spiritual disguise but for the most part never going beyond appearances.

Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.

I'd spent my six months off sick from work reading most of the scriptures of the world. While I found a certain ammount of peace after the storm of reading so much spiritual stuff. I still needed to see other things and be in other places.

I see all the things which happen to me as part of a path that opens up before me. Some of it, I choose and some of it is chosen for me. Whatever I do now is a part of the meaning in my life and it is regularly boring, repetative and frustrating - the same as every other human beings.

Have you ever bumped in to something because you weren't looking where you were going? or crasked in to the back of somebody else's car because you were looking at another part of the road instead of where you were driving?

We tend to think that "meaning" exists as an outside entity from ourselves and our lives. That's like hunting round the house looking for a TV signal instead of turning on the TV and tuning in to a channel. The first thing you have to do is turn on the TV in your mind.

Why use the comparison of TV? TV signals are all around us and even pass through us and it's the same with meaning in our lives. It's there but you have to tune in to it.

To tune in you first have to value everything, every moment, either awake or asleep, every mouthful of food, every breath, every bag of rubbish you take out, every person you talk to, every bill you pay, every dinner party, every kids football game, every time you help them with their homework etc.

Then realise that if you do the same thing all the time, at least 50% of the reason for that is because you choose to.

Ask yourself what you would like to do with your spare time and then do it in stead of telling yourself why you can't do it or haven't got time to do it. Look for ways to enable yourself to do the things you want to do instead of looking for the ways to imprison your mind and stop you living your life.

I have no idea what your financial situation is but if the thing holding you back from being free is the nice home, stable job, comfortable sofa and what the neighbours think of you etc., it's time to get rid of those things. Prisons protect you from the outside but they also make you unhappy and stop you going anywhere.

You can't buy happiness or meaning. They're both priceless but they cost nothing and they already exist within you.

There is a funny answer to your question about the meaning and purpose in life. It's in a book called "Scepticism Inc." by Bo Fowler. I'll leave you to find out for yourself. I don't want to spoil it for you.

Films you might like to watch:

American Beauty.
Fight Club.
The Matrix.
Dark City.

and read Scepticism Inc.

It's never painful to be anywhere, it's only painful to wish you were somewhere else.

Now ask yourself: where do you want to be and what do you want to be doing?

If you need specific answers/ help on what to do next, email me through Answers.

P.S. India is NOT now my "spiritual home" nor am I a hindu convert or drug fiend. My faith isn't really an important part of this answer and there is no category of religion that I fit in to. Some would say that I'm "confused"....because they are. Part of your life is your family so whatever you do you have to include them in your ideas and respect their choices.

What do you do if a stranger threatens your life?

nobodyknow

I just graduated from high school. I was vacationing with family in South Africa and was in the CapeTown Waterfront Alfredo mall. This area (the Waterfront) is a tourist hub and is very posh, and safe, and security men everywhere because itâs the heart of the city. I was with my sister and mom who were in the bathroom so I was waiting for them on the bench opposite to the bathrooms. Some guy by mistake tries to enter the ladiesâ bathroom. I point it out absentmindedly that that is the ladiesâ bathroom (there was no sign on the actual door). He gets angry and tells me that its none of my business and then tells me âpeople end up dead talking shit like that (to me)â My first instinct was that this guy was embarrassed he was caught and I should have minded my own business but I later realized it was my business because my mother and sister were in the bathroom. I actually agreed with him inside because he threatened me! There wasnât anyone around (although shopkeepers were in their stores) when he made the threat even though I knew there were security men prowling around the area not far. I just listened to his shit and tried ignoring him while he âput me in my placeâ with his threats trying to school me. I was bullied in high school and I did the same thing I did to the bully to him, except this guy is not some prick I have to put up with till graduation. This guy is a stranger who Is threatening a tourist to his country. Itâs the real world, I donât have to put up with shit like this anymore, what he was doing was criminal. Iâm pretty unfit so I didnât want to escalate the situation so basically got intimidated and kept my mouth shut. He was a big white guy about 6 2 and he walked away threat accomplished.
When he threatened me I thought of replying to him and ask him if he was serious about threatening my life, loudly so everyone could hear, but the words couldnât come out of my mouth. Itâs like my body just shut down. I wasnât even afraid of him doing anything to my life; I knew he was just talking tough to a fat kid on a bench full of shopping bags. I also had just gone skydiving to confront my fears, and when this happened I felt I just fell flat on my face. They say that a coward dies a thousand deaths in his one life. My failure at that defining moment was a cowardâs death I guess.

Answer
You are being way to analytical of yourself.
He is a piece of shit, who was embarrassed he almost walked in the wrong bathroom.
Instead of him laughing it off, like a normal guy would, he spewed his bully child like mouth.
These people are everywhere and its not you who should be judged, its him or them.
I believe so strongly that what you put into life, is exactly what you get back.
He is his worse pay back.
Do not judge yourself in comparison to a prick.

What does a kid need in his backpack for headstart?

singaloves

My son is 3 and wants to take a backpack to school this year when he starts headstart. What should I put in it, because it isn't actually required to bring one? Any ideas?

Answer
Put a Composition notebook and some crayons. Composition notebooks are pretty cheap and it could make him feel like a big kid going to school with a little notebook to write in. Also the crayons are always fun for kids, I still love them and I'm in high school :D ! Packing a toy would be nice too. Just not his #1 Favorite. If other kids take his favorite or it breaks it would be the end of his world.

How Do I Get My Bad Bus Driver Fired?

Angel

I have a really bad bus driver at my school. He will swear at us and sometimes he looks drunk. He almost crashed into a tree and almost hits pedestrians. One time food was falling out of a kindergardeners backpack so he threw the kids backpack away. Everyone on our bus complains to our teachers, and our parents. The teachers always say "That's how rumors will get started so stop lying and starting rumors". The parents will always say that we are probably bad on the bus and that we deserve it. We can't do anything! Nothing works! One time he even said "SHUT THE HELL UP ANDSIT DOWN NOW YOU B*****! That just scared me! PLEASE HELP US WE NEED THIS BUS DRIVER GONE!

Answer
first off, debris on the floor (such as food from backpacks) is very hazardous since it could roll to the front of the bus and get stuck under the brake pedal causing an accident. second, I have believe it or not I was in school once and rode a bus to school, kids on a bus can be very rude and very distracting for the driver. it is a bus drivers duty to do what he/she has to in order to make sure that kids get to and from school safely. as far as almost hitting a tree, he could have been distracted by rude kids or maybe you are just saying that to try and get sympathy from people. don't interfere if you have no knowledge in what it takes.

How do women from other countries carry so much weight on their heads?

jzeb100

The schoo project im doing requires coming up with a solution to help people carry weight that they arent supposed to carry. Average man is supposed to carry 15% of their weight, but many people carry more and backpacks for school kids also cannot hold a lot. Im doing some research and found African woman can hold 70% of their weight on their heads, but how do they do it?

Answer
One reason for the African woman's ability to bear loads effortlessly seems to be her posture. As a girl, she learns to stand so straight that her pelvis and vertebrae line up like a well stacked pile of blocks.

Another reason may lie in her gait. At the beginning of most persons' strides the head bobs up and the body slows; then as the foot moves forward, the head dips and the body accelerates. This bobbing and dipping and accelerating and decelerating requires a lot of effort. But African women put all their energy into moving forward. The vertical motion is absorbed in the bones and soft tissue. Hips bob less than ankles; shoulders bob less than hips; and the head (with its burden) bobs not at all. Thus, while most people bounce along like wagons on egg- shaped wheels, African women move like wagons on round wheels.

I tried putting in some references for you of interesting articles but everytime I do I get ERROR 999!!
Try typing a sentence from above in google to find it. There was also another interesting paper in Nature magazine..

How do I get them to do their homework without yelling at them?

Sweetlemon

I have four kids; Boy 8, girl 6, boy 4, boy 4. The younger ones are twins. The elder two give me the toughest of times, not that I am not part of the circus. Need tips and advice.

Answer
Sit down with them when it's time to do it. All of you sit together at the table. Look at the stuff in their back packs together. Put out some snacks and drinks, and then just sit there and watch them do it. It's tempting and sometimes even seems necessary to be up and about in the house taking care of other things. But, honestly, this is most important. When you take the time to sit there with them, then they'll think that homework must be that important. I never did this with my kids, and my kids always avoided homework and did a crappy job when they did do it. Then I watched a friend. I noticed that after her kids got home from school, she would sit at the table with them, they'd go through their bags together. They'd discuss the homework and she would sit there and watch them until they were done. Everything else waited. Her kids did very well throughout their school years. Wish I'd have known that simple trick early on....

What would happen at a middle school if a student their committed suicide at home?

I am not going to do it, I am just curious what the school would do. (Teachers & kids, etc.)
i meant "there"

Answer
I can relate. [Somewhat.] Because in our school, St. Paul, just a year ago [2007], we had a 1st grader that was kidnapped, and raped. Her body's disposal wasn't pleasant; her limbs have been cut off and were stuffed inside her stroller bag.

[This was in the news in Philippines. I'm serious when I say she's a 1st grader. The school was SPCP; If you know that.]

I know this isn't 'suicide', but it still has the concept of what would happen if a student was killed somewhere other than inside the school. I'll tell you what our school did -- the Principals raised the security levels by threefold, and the school became more private than it ever was. No one can come in or out without a verification from the student being fetched, or without any form of identification. No ID, no entry.

I guess it was weird... a 1st grader, and her nanny was an accomplice. Her dad was the one that instructed, I heard. She was headed to a a Math-enhancement program when things, well, you know.

[Long answer, I know.]

Super mall In Philippines How can they make money?

mae

I was in Davao Ph a month ago and i notice They were building two new malls on the the same block but there was already two other malls on that same area and two or three more not to far away. They are all huge malls. Many have name brand stores so if the philippines is so poor or said to be poor how do they support these maga malls.

Answer
Malls there are run privately not by governments. Like the famous saying goes "The rich gets richer and Poor gets Poorer" is very present in the Philippines. Many people in the streets are looking for food in the garbage while other people follow the latest fashion trends that the artistas have. Know why? Cause a lot of people have become very superficial and materialistic there, unfortunate to say that is. They follow what they see on tv and don't seem to care what they see outside their door. This is how malls make big money there no matter what the cost of living is people will still try to go inside and purchase these materials just to look good. I've seen this documentary once, this girl was crying saying she wanted to go work as an OFW cause she was broke and she lived in the squater area but man did she not like the part. She looked richer than I did and by richer I mean she had branded apparal like nike shoes, puma bag, ralph lauren polo shirt etc.. And this was coming from a girl that could not even eat 3 times a day.

Edit: for BCoolExpress: DUDE are you literate? Did you read what I wrote or did you just see OFW and went on to your rant? Cause I think you did. My parents are OFWs so why would I belittle it? I also migrated 20 years ago and studied vigorously in order to help out my parents and send money to my relatives. I know how they put literally blood and sweat to work for the money to send it in the Philippines cause I work as hard as them. So please don't put BS just cause you wanna rant READ! buddy! I said this woman wanted to apply as an OFW cause she stated she barely ate 3 times a day but she had branded material all around her. I merely pointed this out to support my argument about the materialist side of us. So next time you just wanna screw around cause you want points instead of valid arguments please don't. So stay in school is all I can say.

Answer
H&M, Topshop...

What kind of school bag should i gettt?

Megan S

I need to pick out my school bag and i can't decide. I don't want to use a very nice bag bc in the past they have gotten dirty. I want a bag that will hold up and is still cute. Probably a tote bag or like a larger handbag..something along the lines of herve chaplier or longchamp maybe? thank you!
i don't like backpacks. i'm more of a handbag type of person. i am willing to spend money just not a lot like louis vuitton unless it wont break and get ruined.

Answer
Totes are so great for school bags! They let you be feminine yet practical!

It sounds like you have something in mind already.

If you don't want to pay X amount because you know that the bag will get dirty, try going on eBay or Amazon and getting one for way less! Don't be scared of eBay, not everything is used! Lots of stuff comes with tags still attached!

But if you're looking for something a little different, check out Pop Deluxe. http://www.popdeluxe.net

They have great, perfect sized totes that are pretty snazzy! And its where I buy all of mine! I always get compliments!

Do you buy your kids new backpacks each school year?

cheetos

So my kids get new backpacks each year, but i did notice some of their classmates have the same old backpacks. I know things are tuff for some parents but there are good deals out there you just have to shop around. So whats your opinion new backpacks or reuse?

Answer
My son gets a new backpack every year. He just started 3rd grade. Every year he wants something different. Star Wars, Transformers, etc. Last year he insisted on getting a Pittsburgh Pirates one. This year it's just a plain grey and black with the across the chest type strap from Five Below. Once he gets older (into high school) I will buy him a more expensive one that lasts hopefully 2-3 years. If a new $10 backpack makes him happy every year, I have no problem buying it.

There is nothing wrong with reusing one, regardless of your financial state. I just prefer to buy a new one every year.

What is a good kids backpack that is small and cute but can also hold a 9x12 folder?

Rachel

I really like the cute designs of Skip Hop Zoo backpacks, but they are a little small and won't be able to fit a 9x12 folder...

Do you guys have any backpack suggestions?

Answer
well im not sure what size your looking for but Victoria's secret, American eagle and Pac sun have some cute ones goodluck!

How has Scientology and Dianetics changed your life?

Please, anyone that has read Dianetics and has seriously applied it to their life, please answer...not just southpark addicts (like myself)...

Answer
Well I've been a Scientologist for over 36 years which is most of my life so far. It changed my life when I first discovered it and continues to be a spiritual adventure.
Here's my story of how I first found it and why I chose it:

When I was 17 still in school in London UK,I looked around me at life in general, what I was being taught by my teachers and also my parents in particular, and realised that they did not actually have answers to my questions. This was quite a shock at the time, and I actually got quite depressed, I thought:" I don't want to bring children into this world the way it is". I even got sent to the doctor, who offered me "something to take the edge off things"(valium was very popular back then). I declined his offer and started searching for answers myself.
I got interested in Eastern thinking, meditation, and even went to see a guru who asked me if I wanted "the word". I felt he really knew nothing about me and did not seem very interested either way, so again I declined his offer.
I decided to go to teaching college, as I thought that might be a way to help change and improve conditions in life. In the summer before starting college, 1971, I travelled to Israel and spent 6 weeks there, travelling and working. I spent time in the Negev desert on an acheaological dig, picked apples in a kibbutz, etc. While there I had this realization about myself. Basically , that I AM myself, regardless of what or who is around me. Until that point I thought I was the sum of what others considered me to be, my culture, genes, environment etc.
When I got back I found out from a friend of mine that an exboyfriend and become a Scientologist. I was curious, I imagined him with a shaved head and a tamborine chanting his way down the streets of London!
I was told he worked at the Church of Scientology in London. I went there. He was pleased to see me etc. For me the whole meeting was affected by my "crush" on this guy, he hadn't shaved his head, just got a hair cut and looked pretty OK. He did lent me a copy of a book about Scientology called "The Fundementals of Thought"
I went to college (in Liverpool) and he wrote me long letters that I didn't answer. The college experience gave me more certainty that the answers were not available in the "system". Particularly I took psychology as one of my additional subjects, hoping to find out more about what makes us "tick". It quickly became apparent to me that this subject was pretty useless and did not really know anything about the mind or the spirit (the word psychology comes from the Greek word PSYCHE which means soul or spirit).
One day I was feeling guilty about not answering this guys letters, so I started reading the book he lent me.
There was a chapter in it called "The Parts of Man" and it descibed the exact same thing I had realised for my self while in Israel.
Having someone else agree with me that what I found to be true was in fact true was enough for me to know that I had found something finally.
I'm not one to waste my time, so when I got a telegram from this guy asking me to come to London and help out at the Church of Scientology, I packed my bags and left. This was in early 1972.
Since that time I have been a very active Scientologist in many areas of life ,married a Canadian, moved to Toronto in 1981. Have 2 adult kids, helped establish schools using education methods of Hubbard. I've run Drug Rehab and Drug Ed programs, also using these techniques.
Helped many people change and improve their lives, and have personally achieved a level of understanding and ability that is beyond any "price".
In short for me, I found what I was looking for. A way to change and improve life and conditions for myself and others and the adventure of understanding life continues.

does anyone really belive in scientology?

blackrealt

i have never met someone that does.
is it just a california thing?
i am not trying to affend if you believe please tell when you started and why.
John Travolta and Tom Cruise do not count both are great actors. i llove there movies but dont belive great actors couse i have no idea if they are acting

Answer
Scientology isn't about "belief". I've been a Scientologist for the past 34 years and I've studied it and used it and applied it to life.
I do not "believe" in it. If it didn't make sense to me, if I didn't observe it working, I would have continued to look for something that did. That's how I found it.... looking for something that made sense and actually applied to my life.
By the way, no offence taken. In fact I will share my story of how I found it .

When I was 17 still in school in London UK,I looked around me at life in general, what I was being taught by my teachers and also my parents in particular, and realized that they did not actually have answers to my questions. This was quite a shock at the time, and I actually got quite depressed, I thought:" I don't want to bring children into this world the way it is". There are currently over 8 million Scientologists in more that 150 countries world wide. However we are a new religion, only 53 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher developes a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.
