Good charities?

Fashion `a

Hi I am having my 13th birthday party. There will be about 50 people, but instead of having them bring gifts, I'll ask for money to donate. What would be a good charity to give this money to?

Answer
Ronald McDonald Foundation but I would look for local things to donate to such as bringing school supplies to your birthday party then donating them to schools at the beginning of the school year because there are always those kids who never get a new backpack or a fresh set of pencils etc. or maybe bring coats and blankets for giving to poor people or the homeless as it gets cold. Toys for children on Angel Trees who don't get picked can be donated to local organizations. There are also shelters around for mothers and children who are victims of abuse and they can always use money.
That is such a cool and great idea. Hooray for you. There should be more people like you around- and at 13 -what a great thing. You make me smile. Good luck!!!

Does anyone know of an organization/charity that accepts used school supplies/kids art supplies?

Shannon

I'm clean sweeping the house and have tons of old/used school supplies, backpacks, scissors, pencil holders etc and would love to get them directly to someone in need rather than throwing them out or giving them to goodwill. But all I can find are org. looking for brand new donations. My stuff is in perfectly good shape.

Answer
As far as back packs go, you could call a local shelter where homeless kids may be living. They may also be able to use the supplies as well. You could also call the boys n girls club, big brother big sister, a ronald mcdonald house, or any local school. Head start which is a preschool for kids from low income families may also take donations

Can you help me find a good bag for school for me? I want to order it from Amazon?

november R

I don't need to carry all that much in the bag besides a binder and maybe a paperback reading book. I don't want all these designs on it, just plain, preferably black. I'm kind of looking for a messenger bag, but if you see something else that seems okay, please post the link.

So here's some of my preferences for the bag:
- not too bulky
- no designs all over the bag
- no purse bags
- price under $40
- from amazon.com.
If you could post the link, that would be so helpful.
Thanks so, so much! <3

School bag for 8th grade :)?

charlotte

Please include links! Must be big enough. :)
Thanks so much, please help! :]
I need to hold a medium sized binder, books, papers, and just stuff like my phone, ipod, etc. Thanks!

Answer
Like a backpack? Hmm.. I'm guessing your on a budget, and you want it to match a lot of stuff, so I'd go with this backpack:
http://www.buckle.com/product/product_detail.jsp?bmUID=iEBXzt9&prd=19465JABKLWHB&sku=9083010000&N=43+1712

If you want a little more color, you could go for something like this:
http://www.journeys.com/product.aspx?id=163461&g=girls&p=app&c=876&m=SM

And if you're willing to splurge, get one of these:
http://www.coach.com/online/handbags/-handbags_silhouettes_backpacks-10551-10051-5000000000000155671-en?t1Id=62&t2Id=5000000000000155671&tier=2&LOC=LN

Hope I helped!(:

How gud is animation in india???

pavan varm

i am gonna plan 4 animation cource..
so please tell me hw gud id tht nd suggest me some international animation schools or inistutes to start my animation career.

Answer
As the above answer , there are some good training centers in India, and for animation India is one of the best destination to learn and start your career, lot of international animation companies are started and identifying India as the best spot for the business, few already started like Sony Image works, Chennai, Dream works Coming in Bangalore, Walt Disney planning in trivandrum, Tonnz animation, Trivandrum, Soo its a great time to learn and start your career in India.....why thinking international, now India is moving and overriding international markets,if the cost factor is not important, then go ahead, but now you will get the same level of training in India for half the cost.Learn some specialized stuff rather than bag full of software's, First understand which area is interesting for you or love to work like 2D, 3D , VFX and put extra effort to specialize on that.

Some good and Specialized Training Centers :
Whistling Woods, NID, Illusions School of Digital Art ( opening soon).

Best wishes for a great career in animation.

Answer
I have a brother in law (and his entire family) in Nigeria right now, and have been since last August and won't return until this July/Aug. I have had friends whose teenage kids spent 2-3 aweeks in Kenya with church groups as well. Since we don't know what you're up to over there, and you didn't ask for help or advice on that, I'll stick to the question:

Your question was about a backpack, so here is my advice:

If there is any way at all that you can go to an REI store or other similar store, I would recommend that. If the pack you get doesn't fit properly, you'll be miserable. If you must buy online, some of the online stores will offer "fit help" on the site - they'll tell you what size of torso works best for a particular pack. Definitely pay attention to the measurements.

That being said, you can get great deals from Sierra Trading Post, and their shipping is prompt. (REI is quick too). If you're worried about making sure you get the right pack, order 2 different ones, and send back the one you don't like:

camping with kids?

Tina M

do any of you guyshave a list or something for kids and camping? I have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old. what things did you all bring for entertainment/food?

Answer
My kids have always simply ate what I eat. We don't fix them special meals or snacks and the same goes while hiking and backpacking. As for entertainment, being in the woods is enough for anyone, looking for wildlife, swimming, fishing, just being out there is enough for anyone. I suppose at night you could sing, tell stories, play games, music, etc, but usually my kids have hiked and played all day and are ready for bed when it gets dark.

Lebanon: Should we form our own party ?

Giberish

It really doesn't seem like a bad idea at this point ?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130904153909AAaNI7q I'm changing the name from HezGiberish so any new name recommendations would be great.

Some policies I've been thinking about would be:

1) Closing the damn borders already, and reinforcing them even if we ask for help from Unifel.

2) Getting rid of all the corrupt leaders, those damn money eating far BASTARD !

3) Further investigations in the Arsel incident anyone who was involved WILL be punished.

4) Our army is a red line, anyone who insults or attempts to hurt them will be punished severely they're a big part of our country and they deserve more respect than any blood thirsty politician scum...

5) Education is key, something I've noticed is how low public schools have come we should have a educational system like in Japan or S.Korea :D also the uniforms are cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute !

6) A severe fine will be forced on anyone who litters .-. I just hate it how I could barely walk on the street on a windy day without getting a trash bag on my face ....

7) We need to find a way to solve this refugee problem ... Our country is not everyone else's refugee camp, I'm sick and tired of hearing stories of how Lebanese families are kicked out of their houses, jobs, hospitals to be replaced by Syrians who get full medical coverage and financial support ...

And many more but I'm too tired to type anymore .-.

Right any more suggestions and who wants to join ? Also we need a shitload of money so who knows where we could find that ?

Also Radroud if you're going to join we need to discuss your opinion on Hezbollah, I honestly think they're scum especially that Nasrallah. They're one of the main reasons why we're in this mess, if they want to fight for a cause in Syria fine they could get the fuck out of our country and fight there, but why did they drag the entire country along with them ?

I'm not saying they're the only ones at fault but they sure aren't helping the situation, the more they act as if they're above the law the worse things will get if they can form their own armies, keep weapons, fight in wars then what would stop anyone else from doing the same ?

Ya l nizam byetaba2 3al kel, ya bala hal shaghli men l awal 5alina ndalna 3ayshin metel l bajam :l
Awwww B thank you for your support :3, I can use my cuteness for our advantage ! Oh wait I need to be fierce not cute ! 3errrrr fierce ._. ...

B I'm assigning you with the ministry of foreign affairs :D, or would you like something else ?

*I have no idea what I'm doing*

Answer
WLIIIIIIIK ehhhhhhh I agree on everythingggggg. You don't know how much I support your beliefs. We should work on the name though. We need something more inspiring.
And awwww it's been a long time since I've seen you speak Arabic. You're so cute!!!!

Best way to learn how to Box?

Brandon A

I'm 19, in college, and part of my school's cross country and track teams. I also take part in multiple triathlons. I look at myself as being in shape but I was hoping to broaden my sporting events. I've never boxed or really hit anything in my life. However, the idea and spirit of boxing fascinates me. I'm was hoping to take lessons somewhere around Selinsgrove PA or Lebanon PA but I don't know the best way to approach it. Should I start with lessons or should I just lift and hit a bag for a while or what? thanks.

Answer
Definetely start with lessons, you need to learn the basic techniques first before you go at a bag.

Most people don't do well during their first lesson, so don't be embarrassed or intimidated.

School Bag?

Randomer

I can't seem to find a nice school bag anywhere...does anyone know wheres the best place to buy them? I saw this gorgeous orange leather jane norman bag that someone had...but I can't seem to find that aywhere either...can someone please help?

Answer
Jane Normans are the best school bag, but short of that buy a plain black one and customise! Mine is covered in hippie designs, ribbons and cute buttons...
Find vintage buttons and brooches at flea markets, badges at charity events (or make your own) and ribbons can be found anywhere! Use patches from your favourite tops when they get too small, and good luck!

I'm nervous about school?

Bri

I started my first day of Highschool at a catholic one today i was the new kid very weird day...any who, tomorrow is our pep rally and on the intercom they said tomorrow is class color day... each yeah (freshies, sophies, juniors, senors) were there colors....well im a freshie and we are supposed to wear GREEN shirts and our uniform bottoms...WELL when we registered the school gave us a shirt it said our school name and class of 2012...and the shirt was green...you can wear ANY green shirt though...if you went to my school would you wear the one the school gave you or wear your own...SEE I don't want to be the only person with you school shirt or the only one in my own lol

Answer
Wear your own shirt to school, and take along the school shirt that they gave you in your bag. Chances are most people will be wearing their own shirts (since they normally have to wear school uniforms, not their own clothes). If everyone else is wearing the school shirt, then just sneak into the bathroom and change before anyone has time to notice that you aren't wearing the school shirt. Don't worry - no matter what you wear, you'll look amazing.... hey, there will be people wearing big fluffy mascot costumes, right?

If you were in my situation, would you go to school this Friday?

Note: This has NOTHING to do with the 2012 Apocalypse.

I am sure that you have all heard of the shooting that took place in Connecticut last week. Well, some kid in my school decided to tell a few people that he was going to shoot up the school this Friday(one week after the shooting that happened in Connecticut). Our school is currently on "Code Yellow", meaning that we must have all of our bags checked upon entering school and we must be escorted by a security guard if we leave our classroom for any reason(including using the restroom).

I have no idea who made this claim and I don't think anyone truly knows. Apparently, someone went to the principal and said that their friend told them that he was going to do this on Friday, but I don't think he gave them the name of the student. So, the kid who told the prinicipal about this was either too scared to give out the name because he didn't want to be killed OR this is something that a group of idiots made up together in order to scare everyone.

Ultimately, I will talk to my parents about it later, but I was just curious to see what other teens would do if they were in this situation. So, would you go to school anyway and hope it was just a hoax or would you not take any chances and stay home from school?

If it matters, we aren't going to be doing anything in my classes this Friday. The teachers understand that a lot of kids will be staying home.

Answer
Most schools getting these threats are closing the school down and putting them under watch. So if this "claim" was reported you will not be able to go to school.

They shut down one school just this morning for a threat.

When I was in highschool and lived in VA we often got a lot of bomb threats. It was scary.

Messenger Bag or Backpack?

Serena

I am in middle school( year 7) and i am not sure whether to use a backpack or messenger(side ) bag. I usually have 1 folder full of 3 books, 1 binder and 1 other folder, a pencil case and cosmetic bag. I find the backpack better looking but since it has wheels, it adds a little weight. It's held up good, but i'm wondering whether to use the side one or not.

Answer
i used a backpack in middle school and desperately wanted a vera bradley messenger bag, so starting in 9th grade i got one. i wish i had just stuck with the backpack. the messenger bag is cool at first but after a while your shoulder hurts, and if youre pale like me, leaves red marks. you should stick with the backpack :)

My school bag has bent my back. Help?

Anonumas S

I'm starting to look like the humpback of Notre dam. Since primary school my school bag has been really heavy so I lean forward to prevent falling backwards. All the books I need are for home work. Now I'm in third year, secondary school, and we have the junior cert this year and all of my teachers are telling us to bring our books home every night to study, even though I don't homework still makes my school bag almost impossible to close. Since last year I have gone through 4 school bags they keep ripping the one I have is ripped at the top beside the handle that bag cost 40â¬. I weighed my bag on a few occasions it usually weighs 2 or 2and a half stone . Is there any way to fix my posture? Standing up straight hurts my neck and back and I get cramps at the side of my neck sometimes which are rediculously painful. HELP. :(
My schools really crowded a wheely bag :P has come to mind before but my principal said everyone would trip over it :( I don't have time for yoga too much homework.
I do do homework unlike most people in my school I just don't study every class every night like the teachers want. I'm scared of teachers so I do the homework.
Is swissgear a good brand? If yes I beg to differ.( "from the maker of the genuine Swiss army knife tm" )

Answer
Get a rolling bag, kind of like what the airline stewards use, like these:

http://www.ebags.com/category/wheeled-backpacks/2003995

And get into a yoga class to help realign your back and strengthen your core.

Good luck.

EDIT:
MAKE time. A class or two on the weekend will give you the tools you need to engage your core (stomach) muscles that protect your back, and once you have some information, you can stretch on your own to counter the damage the backpack is doing.

But get a rolling bag anyway, get a doctor to write a note for your idiotic principal, if necessary.

Donating old school bags?

setashort5

I have about 25 messenger and backpacks, most of them never used. (bought them on sale and then the school made a no backpack rule) Is there anywhere I can send them to be donated? I really don't want to give them to good will or salvation army is there anywhere that gives school bags to thee needy?

Answer
www.risingfountains.org

I have been sending school supplies but the kids have no shoes, let alone bookbags. I know it will be a little extra for you to send here but it's well worth it when you realize what a difference you'll be making!

Do u like this school bag? 10 points?

Matthew

Hi I'm a 14 year old boy and wondering if this manbag would look good for school and also what position should i place the bag to the side or to my back left or right? 10 points good detailed answer. http://www.jdsports.co.uk/product/adidas-originals-adicolor-airline-bag/044535/

Answer
I am about your age and quick a couple of kids have that bag at my school and schools in the area. Some days it'd be helpful to wear but whatever is comfortable and easy to deal with for you. It may hurt your should and your binder may not fit in the bag. Whatever hand you write with the bag should be placed on the opposite. It's a very nice blue colour but before purchasing make sure you see your other choices and gurantee you'll love your bag by school time.

is my school is getting crazy???

Q. i go to a college prepatory school where we are focced to carry around laptops. I am a freshman.

i love my classes and teachers but the freshman are forced to have their 80 min. study period in the library. No big it is fine, air contioned, big, etc.

well some freshies would im and talk on cell ohones while in study (not me) so now we must sit in the center of the library with the librarian over our shoulders watching our every move while the upper classman get to have study in the caf where they can eat and stay far away from a teacher.

they take our cell phones ipods etc. before we sit down. i think that they are gonna start checking our bags

we cant talk, go to the bathroom or anything.

i get all my homework done the night before and have study 1st period. so i would come on here or work on my webpage. well now i have to do school work even if i have none. WTF????

is it just me or are they being retarded???
we HAVE to sit in groups but can not talk. we are not allowed to sit in the cubicle things unless we are a sophmore or up.

they are over our shoulders for 80 min. it is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!

if we talk or do something other than work, we get a detention and loose computer privleges.

we cant even emil our hw to our teachers (that is how we hand it in) because they think we are emiling friends!!! so i f we do we loose privelges!

how rediculous!!!
I cant quit!! my mom thinks that it was a miricle we got the money to send me there and my dad paid the tuition already.

i cant quit this school looks great on college applictions and i NEED to go here for so many reasons. i could quit but it would be throwing away 13,000 $ and my future!!
i get all A's dumba$$!!! it looks like this because i am trying to hurry before the librearian sees me on here. ever hear of typos dumbsh!t
what the hell is wrong with you people i am on my laptop which i am still adjusting to!!!! i make a lot of typos because the keyboard is different!!!!

and my parents MAKE ME DO MY hw the night before NO EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!

they dont care. they are spending 13,000 just for me to go to the school they are not gonna let me joke off at home!!!

and it is a college prapatory schoo not a private high school!!!! it is an ACADEMY!! that means that for every person accepted there are 2 rejected. i got the satistics the other day!!!! this school is the cream of the crop in connecticut!!!! we are the smartest! even the choate rosmary hall students are not as smart!!! we acctually look before we cross the street!!! unlike the choaties. plus choate accepts you if you are rich not if you are smart!!!!!!!

GOD people get it through your head
we are a laptop based school. our school has more than 1/2 our books online and we do everything on computers. that is why we e mail it. so it is timed when you finished it

Answer
I like you so I'll let you in on a secret all adults know and hide from kids.

When we don't know what to do, we "crack down on the rules" so it looks like we're doing something.

I'd bet some parent visited one day, saw a kid on a cell phone, and called someone in admin and said "What am I paying 40 grand a year for, you let kids talk on the phone all day."

You or I would have said "No we don't, you're being stupid Mr. Johnson. Look at the rate of admission our students get to top colleges. Think they get into Harvard for their text messaging skills?"

But this stupid administrator said "Let's crack down!!" So they're acting like Deloris Umbridge on crack.

Give it a few weeks, when Mr. Johnson stops calling the board of directors to ask why his particular moron kid still can't get into Yale, things will relax.

You're tough, you can outlast this crackdown. :-)

High school questions?

Remi

I'm a girl starting high school this fall.
1. What should I bring the first day of school?
2.What should I use as a book bag?
3.Ideas for clothes/make-up/hair for the first week?
(I'm 5'7 and 120 pounds with brown hair about a foot longer than my shoulders. I'm pale with blue eyes)
4.Should I take Journalism or Yearbook as my elective?
5.Any other tips about high school?
Thanks so much for answering! I appreciate it!

Answer
First off congratulations on making it to high school! Its definately a fun experience :)

1. Just basics, whatever you did last year you should bring the same this year. High schools don't give you a supply list cause your old enough to figure it out by now. During orientation you should meet all your teachers and introduce yourself and ask if there's anything inpiticular you should bring. Otherwise: pencils, big binder & a few small ones, or a lot of small ones if you prefer one for each class, markers, colored pencils, glue, scissors, graph paper, college rulled notebook, ti-89 calculator(yes there like $100+ but you will need it all high school) if you can't afford it you can rent one for like $30 for both semesters. And a whole lot of paper college rulled.

2. A book bag? Lol any one is fine, just don't make it a girly princess one or Disney backpack your in high school now and that's really not cool. Also NO WHEELY BACKPACKS! Big no-no in high school. Last thing the crowded hall needs is some girl taking up space dragging her backpack behind her. Regular backpack, preferably one that can hold a lot of books! You find yourself unable to make it to your locker sometimes and have to carry a lot!

3. Can't help you much since I'm a guy but from a dudes perspective I would go for a summer look. It's not really cold yet when school starts so do whatever make-up your comfortable with and try to look your best since girls like to dress up on special occasions and somehow first day of school applies as one. Probably nothing to "revealing" don't want to get dress coded on your first day hehe. Whatever you think looks good on you and be yourself.

4. I would shoot for journalism, I don't think freshmen should be In yearbook, but that's just me. Yearbook in my highschool requires you to know the school pretty well and find students/aquwardly ask them "can I see *insert name* for yearbook" as you peek in the door of a class in session. Also you should get to know the students before so you can know yourself why they are being asked stuff for yearbook. I say wait and take it junior or senior year. Also journalism is a good lower class elective! I took it and it was fun.

5. ^^ as you can tell by how much I type, I could rant for hours about high school. But the main thing is high school is probably one of the best experiences of your life. Believe me I miss it and I'm not even out of it (I'm a senior). There will be drama I can guarantee it, you see things you may never have before, It hit me how it's such a bigger transition throughout highschool when I saw kids making-out after school and then driving themselves home. But it really is whatever you make of it. If you have one bad experience and think its terrible then it will be but if you have a open mind then it can be loads of fun! This really is the starting point where you figure out who you are and who are your real friends.

My number 1 tip: Enjoy it! It goes by fast and you will miss it! Especially when you have to start spending your birthday and Christmas money on college and a car, also start working :/ Sux. Oh and when you become a sophomore don't say "oh freshmen suck" cause its more annoying then freshmen alone lol. Make sure you know who's above you on the high school scale.

Have fun! ;)

how do you feel about a 11 year old girl having a designer bag?

living lif

i was visiting my sister Liliann and her family in California when the kids were heading to the bus for school when my eye spotted a Coach wristlet in the hands of a 11 year old middle schooler. and i thought myself why does she have it, does she have cash, pads or what, and who gave it to her?

i mean in middle school peoplke would try to steal it. am i right?

so how do you feel about a 11 year old girl having a designer bag?
would you let your daughter have one?

Answer
I don't really like for people to buy designer bags. It is just a waste of money. You could always buy a regular bag and it wouldn't matter. And if I were in middle school, I would never stoop so low just to get a designer bag. Also, I don't have kids. And I am not old enough to have one either. Please don't ask me what age I am.

How do an 11 year old get rid of his eye bags.?

Person

My friend's son, is 11 years old, soon to be 12 on Oct 31, 2012. Well.. He sleep late at night.
Its kinda big. So, we were wondering if there is any way to get rid of his eye bags.
Please If you know any that will work. Please answer!
Thanks.

Answer
lots of vitamins -- so eat good healthy foods -- and sleep, of course. he shouldn't be sleeping late at night. i think he is watching too much tv in his bedroom or playing games and then staying up late to do homework. it should be the other way around. whatever the reason, he should take 15-20 min naps in the afternoon after he comes home from school.

Japanese High School Bags?

cherie

Does anyone know where I can find those book bags used by Japanese high-school girls? Here is a picture of what I mean:

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/9942/sb3mg8.jpg

They're quite elusive; and, even if they're available on eBay, they are extremely pricey. Does anyone know an online shop directly located in Hong Kong, Japan or Korea that offers these items at a reasonable price and can ship them internationally? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Yahoo! Japan has high school bags and accepts orders from other countries. Yahoo! Japan is written in Japanese, of course, and you need to create Yahoo! Japan ID first. If you don't read Japanese, you need to find a reliable person who understands Japanese and is willing to help you. You have to give her/him your personal information to order the bags, so be careful whom you ask!

Answer
Bentley's school day bags: http://www.onlinebags.com/en/Products/Daypacks-23.aspx

Wet Seal for $10 tote bag to carry your stuff to classes: http://www.wetseal.com/catalog/category.jsp?categoryId=178

Yeah, get a smaller bag to take with you to classes, it's much easier that way, especially with the people that knock your stuff down in the halls, like a tote bag!

Do Kids Really Carry Their Backpacks?

th3lawmak3

In high school do kids really walk around and bring to class their backpacks?

Answer
It depends on the school. I have worked in schools where everyone carries their backpacks because the school is too large to go to your locker, school where only a few kids carried their backpacks, and even some schools that had rules against carry backpacks and backs. Many girls carry a larger purse style bag for their books, and many boys use the drawstring smaller bags that are similar to back packs instead of larger back packs.

Cool backpacks for boys for 2008/2009 school year.?

kaye922001

My boys will be attending middle (public) school this year for the first time on front range in Colorado. We are new to the area. Any idea what is consider "cool" for boys for backpacks? Can boys use messager bags or are those just for girls in middle school? What about slings? Please help. We are getting tired of hunting for backpacks.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Jansport are usually a safe bet and what many kids are using. It is not so common and popular however for boys to use messenger bags and be sure to stay away from roller backpacks!

First Day Of School Mid-Term?!?

Dylan

HELP. I am moving from England to Scotland, and not only will I be English, I am also from a tiny village and used to classes of around 10 or 8 children- now I'm moving to the city and the classes are of 40!!!

I am very nervous that I won't be accepted as the 'English Country Bumpkin' and will be 'The Weird New Kid' forever :(

Also, people tend to label me as emo (?), scene (obviously the hair and clothes) or rave (the Kandi beads) and I'm not sure what it is like in Edinburgh (the city)...

Are there many people who dress alternatively (I mean, big pink hair, skinny jeans, bright graphic tees, cute... childish?) because then at least I can find some cool people to hang out with...

PLUS... any tips on making friends?! Like, what do I say? Who do I talk to if there is no one dressing similar to me???

Thankyou...

DYLAN.

PS.
Is this okay for the first day there?
Miss Sexy black skinny trousers (skinny hipsters, not baggy and gross like normal trousers.)
A blouse (duh.)
The school jumper that everyone has to wear (with the sleeves rolled up, obvs.)
A few Kandis on my wrists and arms
Loads of kawaii and bright layering necklaces out of jumper
A few bright rings
Light makeup with natural false eyelashes (Benefit), my pale lip glass (MAC) and finally some light blush (Benefit).
My neon and black PB bag (only one schools let me take in but don't really rate it T.T)
Oh and also some totally black converses....

THANKS -kisses you- HA HA -hugs you- :3

Need middle school tips, badly?

Butterfly

Please email me whatever answers you come up with at tweet069101@hotmail.com . I deleted any personal info already liek my first and last name so no one can figure out my identity, the reason I am using that email is because its my main email.

Hey people, its your girl butterfly. I need tips! I am going into 6th (A.K.A middle school) and I need tips. I am gonna be new along with my 8 BFF's and I need tips. Well I wanna choose two elective classes two rate in order from 1-4 and here are my choices:
Art, Chorous, Life management, Exploring technolagy. I am good with computers and drawing. I sing good but dont wanna be in chorus. I wanna choose two electives because I am not good with reading notes and playing them (Band). So anyways, I dont wanna get bad grades and I dont wanna forget all the stuff I need to know. Here are my main questions:

How do I remember my locker combo? How do I decorate my locker in 5 minutes?

How do I keep from getting lost? What if they dont have maps?

How do I keep up with where to go and how to get there? (over 73 different classes and special classes).

What if I have to change in front of a bunch of girls since we have to take gym.

How do I contact my bff's? What if we want to eat lunch together?

Our school colors are tacky! What do I do? I dont look good in orange! (Black, white, orange)

What if teachers are like witches? (Basicly describing my 3rd grade teacher, an old lady with a mean voice).

How do I get enough sleep with such a buisy schedule? (My day is basicly getting up at 4:30 a.m, get dressed, my mom does my hair, btw I am black so thats why. Next I grab all my stuff and get in the car, vroom, errrrrrrhhhhhhh, we're at my dad's house, bam I close the car door and make my way into his living room, its 5:14, he wakes up in 6 minutes, I try to catch some Z's and then, beep beep beep, his alarm clock goes off, oh no I gotta brush my teeth and use the bathroom get on my shoes and grab my bag! We head for my grandmas, my parents have day jobs, we hurry there and she opens the door. I go back to sleep and then eat. Oh crap, my breath smells like do do now. I dont know what to do. Then I get to school. 6 hours and 30 mintues of boring EOG crap. Yawn, I end up falling asleep. "Sit up!" the teacher says but I cant seem to stay awake. Then ding ding ding the bell rings and everyone rushes out of the school. I get picked up by my grandma or grandaddy and we go to the house. Oh no, I have an annoying 7 year old cousin who wont shut up and leave me alone. He doesnt ever stop singing or making noises which is why I couldnt finish my homework yestarday, he kept following me and making stupid noises trying to unlock whatever door of the room I was in. Ding dong ding dong ding ding ding dong, my dads here, yay! Two hours later, my mom gets here, I get on the computer and thats it, then I go to bed at 9:30). I'm buisy dont ya think? Its horrible!

What do I do? Little black kids think I am ugly and might try to kill me! What do I do to stay safe? They can easily bring granades, in fourth grade this 12 year old retard decided he was gonna bring a bb gun, he was supposed to be suspended for the rest of the year, only 10 days! Mother freaking butt holes should have suspended him for longer, he could have killed someone. To believe hes gonna go to my schoo next year.

I have way too many books and way too much homework! How do I narrrow it down?

I cant see the baurd, what am I supposed to do? If I ask someone what it says the teacher might think I am cheating. I don't wear glasses because they dont anything, the glasses I have on my side table just make the words or whatever less fuzzy (no not fuzzy fision, just makes it clearer). I want a certain type of glasses like these:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/tatyveli/1682138701/

I really dont wanna ask my dad for glasses. So please try to answer edleast say 4 of my questions.

Basicly the middle school is less than 5 minutes away from my current school, you can just walk there.

Also this is a girls only question but what do I do if my period starts and theres no tisue in the stall and I have no one in the bathroom to ask for help? I dont want to walk around wet knowing the it might bleed through.

Answer
1. Lots of middle schools give you a homework planner. Write your locker combo in one of the reference pages.

2. Decorate: Metal lockers: use magnets to attach a strip of cool-patterned fabric to the back of your locker or inside of door. Plastic lockers: use poster putty (sold at drugstores in paper aisle).

3. If you're lost, ask around. Don't say you're in the youngest grade, just say you're new. Better to duck into a classroom and ask a teacher.

4. You'll eventually learn to memorize your schedule and once you start remembering where you're going, it won't take so long to get there.

5. Changing in front of peers ain't that bad. Just do it. If you're shy, use a bathroom stall or behind an open locker door. When you get to know your P.E. classmates, it's really no big deal anymore.

6. Text them. Email them. IM them. But not when you might get in trouble. Don't test your teachers within the first two weeks, since they may remember you as the girl always on the phone/computer and will be more likely to take them away from you.

7. Your school colors rock. Play up the black and white since you don't like orange with a black headband or black clips and b/w bracelets and beads :P

8. If the teachers are bad, remember other people have to put up with them too. If you're singled out by the teacher and end up being the student he/she picks on, tell your parents and counselor.

9. High school schedules are often worse than middle school. If you want, catch some ZzZz's during the later part of lunch and set a phone alarm before class starts.

10. BB guns won't kill people. Honestly. My brother has one and it hurts, but there are much worse things. If you're worried, take martial arts over the weekends or something - I suggest Tae Kwon Do. Still, don't sweat it much; it's not too likely super disasters will happen.

11. Homework: take good notes, use composition books instead of folder paper in binders (if possible), don't take textbooks home unless you need them for that night, study your NOTES, not your BOOKS, and get a sturdy backpack. Get into the habit of using your locker.

12. Ask for glasses anyway. If you really can't see anything, you'd be hurting your education by not being able to learn to your best ability. If you want a certain style of glasses, just ask! The place selling them may have discounts and sales :)

13. The period thing is a nightmare, but I suggest keeping a small makeup purse with two to three pads/tampons in your locker. If there's no tissue in your stall, just walk out, grab some paper towels from by the sink or tissues from the next stall, and use those until you can get some real pads. <-- Hope that never happens to you.

Good luck in middle school & congratulations on finishing elementary!
MOST IMPORTANT: Have fun, chill out, and go with it :)

Cute but different backpack for middle school?

=]

my daughter wants a cute backpack for seventh grade but she doesn't like having the same thing as anyone else so something different but cute she liked this one at zumiez but it was too small and she keeps asking me if she should carry around a purse in school but im not sure cause she see's these videos on youtube about what too keep in a school purse so she keeps asking me and i don't know the answer for that so help please and thanks

Answer
You can do lots of things.. they make tye-dye kits if she likes that. you can use different colors, shapes, etc. i agree with letting them decorate them themselves, that is very cool. Get her some pins and markers and stuff. That way she can be creative and original. Everyone will love that and who knows? Maybe she will start a trend :) Middle School is where the kids create their own image, and how people will portray them later on in High School even. As for the purse matter, PLEASE let her carry a purse. On picture days, she will feel much better sitting in a class full of girls digging stuff out of their purses, if she can too. Not to mention how embarrassing it is to "start" and not have anything on you and have to go to the nurse or call home to get something. A lot of kids at my middle school didnt even carry backpacks though. We used lockers and stuff cuz once the teachers start piling the books on you, you are NOT going to want to lug them around everywhere you go.

How to survive first day of high school? What does it take to become a high school English Teacher? :)?

PianoGuy

Well, I will be a freshman in high school next yr. I have done some, but limited research on it, so I thought that I would ask a question on here to help me "kick start" my in depth research to becoming a high school freshman! While researching a little I found that I like teaching! I want to become a high school English Teacher! So any tips on that would be greatly appreciated as well. Going back to the first question I need to know: What to pack in my backpack the night before?,What time to get to bed the night before?(I normally fall asleep later before the first night because I am so excited), Study tips, gym survival, major exam study tips, first day tips, first day outfit, and anything else you can think of on BOTH questions. Thanks (I need both answered, but me being a high school freshman will happen sooner) 10 points
PLEASE ANSWER! ESPECIALLY THE FIRST ONE IS URGENT!!!!lol

Answer
Yay! Congratulations! I'm becoming a freshman this year, too :) Here's a list thing to answer your questions:

1. What to pack in my backpack the night before? What I usually do is pack a binder or two, definitely paper, a notebook or two (in-case they want you to write anything down, plus you could always copy down into another notebook need be), a folder or two, and of course pens and pencils. Oh, and don't forget lunch! Also, make sure to have plenty of binders, notebooks, and folders at home, too, I just think it would be a waste to pack all of it for the first day because the first day is usually when the teachers tell you exactly what you will need. Then again, it's up to you if you do want to bring more. In addition, for math it might be a good idea to have a graphing calculator for high school. Although some teachers might accept scientific calculators, at one point you maybe required to have a graphing one, especially if you are going into algebra I or algebra II. If you're going into geometry you will probably need to own a protractor and a compass which are both cheap tools that you could purchase at Staples or CVS.

2. What time to get to bed the night before? I have this same problem with not being able to fall asleep when excited (and this is a very exciting time). Well, I usually go to bed at 10:00, and I think I'll go to bed at about 9:00, since I know it wouldn't take me over an hour to fall asleep. So, if you think you could fall asleep in a half hour, go to bed about a half hour before you usually do on school nights.

3. Study tips? Well, everyone has different studying needs. For me, flash cards do the trick. Also, make sure to shuffle them each time around so you don't wind up memorizing the order instead! In addition, I find that a lot of times we will read something in class out of the text book, but I won't really get it until I read it again at home. Another idea is seeing if the text book has questions made up already, or maybe you could write up your own type of quiz to test yourself on.

4. Gym survival? Always make sure to have at least two sets of gym clothes in your locker! You may not need them, but it's always good to be safe. Plus, never forget to take your gym clothes home to be cleaned once a week. If you forget them at home, you will always have the other pair in your locker. Now onto gym itself. Well, gym is supposed to be fun. It's a class where you can talk to all your friends and just fool around. Make sure to get all the exercises done and participate in the game, and the gym teachers should like you. If you're in a class with tough bully-like people, the best thing to do is stay away. Don't hide, but don't try to get them mad, either.

5. Major exam study tips? Don't get stressed! That's the most important thing! Stay relaxed, and just review your notes from the rest of the year.

6. First day tips? Well, are you going to a school where you already know a lot of the kids? Because if you are just try to stick by them, and if you get your schedules ahead of time, you should call your friends ahead of time to see what classes you have together. If you don't know anyone in this school yet, try to look for a nice group of kids that won't let you down. It's always hard making new friends and even harder to know who to trust, but you seem like a nice kid that I would definitely want to be friends with.

7. First day outfit? Well, I'm assuming you're a guy because your user name is Timmy. Either way make sure your clothes are comfortable but not over the top. I know it's nice to dress nice on the first day, but I always keep in mind that I won't want everyone to think that I'm going to dress like that everyday. Also, always follow your schools dress code. Hopefully they give you more leeway than they did in middle school. If you live in a warm climate you could wear shorts to school, and maybe comfortable sneakers or sandals (just make sure they're not to messy). I always keep a sweatshirt in my locker because even if it's not cold outside, the school might have it's air conditioning on.

8. Since you would like to become an English teacher, I would suggest making sure to try to get into honors or even AP Language arts courses. If your school has electives it might be good to take ones in the language arts section.

Good luck! I'm glad I'm not the only one excited for high school! Have fun!

High school art project?!?!?

Ash

hey im doing design right now in school. i have my ideas, im designing a bag with the theme of london.
what i need help with is my reasearch page, it has to be photos and drawings.

i need to fill up the whole page but i cant think of much more to include.

what do you think a research page should include?

Answer
you should include the two elements: bag, and London. use clippings from magazines and travel brochures, then do some sketching inspired by this material. you can add lines with anything that comes to mind, like quotes you remember about London, a description of your favorite bag and so on. the feel of your research page has to reflect your creative process: are you the chaotic type (I am...) or are you very structured when it comes to creating?

Answer
Hi,, I live in Australia, I'm 14, I'm starting school in a few days too so we're pretty much in the same boat lol. Is nail polish allowed? If so a bright colour or a french manicure would look good, and maybe just a small necklace OR bracelet

Have fun :)

brisbane state high school?

Giggle

So I'm moving to Australia and was wondering a couple of stuff about my (probably) new school. Do you have to have their lunch or can you bring your own food and do you have to buy their school bag and stationary? Also, what's the atmosphere like there?

Answer
Lunch is never provided in Australia schools - cafeterias are unheard of here. You either bring your own or you buy it at the school tuckshop/canteen.

BSHS has a strict uniform policy and i think you would need to use one of their school bags.

You always buy your own stationEry in Australian state schools and can use whatever you wish as long as it is appropriate for the task.

BSHS is an excellent school and everyone I've known who went there has loved it - my kids had several friends there over about a 20 year period and I very much doubt if anything has changed since then. It is Brisbane's only selective government high school and nearly everyone who attends greatly values the opportunity to be there. The school has high standards and you will be expected to work hard and achieve well. If your entry was on a selective basis (rather than automatic because you live in the small catchment area) you will lose your place if you don't meet expectations in your field of excellence

How can I make a flight more comfortable for two small children?

Rivkah

Hi, my children and I will be flying LA/NYC soon, and I would just like some tips as to what I can bring or how I can make the flight more comfortable for my two children... (they are 4 years & 2 weeks.)
nonldsinutah, no, I will not drug my children.

Answer
I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lot with my own three children. I can assure you first of all, both ages are good for flying. Four year olds understand better what is going on better than 2 or 3 year olds do and are easier to keep occupied in their seats. The baby is so small that s/he'll probably sleep the whole time.

Since I'm a Flight Attendant, I have to tell you that the ONLY way to fly safely with a baby is to have him or her in their own car seat on board. Babies under age 2 are allowed on laps but if anything goes wrong, they're not protected. Air travel is safe so there is very little chance of that happening. As a mom who has made many transaltantics with my own children, I have to admit that it was very nice to have somewhere to place the baby down. It was much more comfortable for me, my baby and everyone around us.

If you didn't book a seat, don't despair! Ask at check-in if it's possible to place an empty seat beside you. Often they do this for families. Check that your seat if FAA approved. Most sold in the U.S. are;
http://www.faa.gov/passengers/fly_children/crs/

If the seat is part of a travel system, you can gate check the stroller part at the door of the aircraft.

Many times on the internet and elsewhere you'll read that you're supposed to make the children suck something on take-off and landing. This is actually a bit of a myth and there's no reason to remove your baby from his or her car seat during the most important parts of the flight for keeping them safe. If they fall asleep, there is no reason to wake them. If you want to make them suck on something during ascent, not just take-off (when the plane leaves the ground) than by all means do so but I have never done anything special and they're fine.

What I do do is take them to the pediatricians' a few days before flying and have him make sure their ears are healthy and infection-free. Healthy ears can handle pressurization changes.

Try to book bulkhead seats (the ones with the wall in front). They are located in different places depending on the aircraft. These are convenient for children and some airlines even supply bassinets which attach to the wall. I will admit that this is rare but nice when you can get it.

Bring a change of clothes and at least 1/3 more supplies than you think you need. Have the 4 year old bring a backpack of his or her own toys. Bring one new toy to surprise him or her onboard.

If your baby is bottlefed, use the kind of bottles with plastic liners. Airplanes have really bad sinks for bottle washing and you can premeasure the powder beforehand to make the task even easier. Also be sure to get him or her used to a room-temperature bottle. Yes, they warm them onboard but be ready to feed your child anywhere, including check-in, security, etc. Since warmed bottles have no health-advantage to the child, make your life easier.

I have never used any sort of drugs to get my children to sleep and we fly between Europe and California about twice a year. It can be dodgy and twice while working, I saw children get the opposite reaction. They were totally wired! I wont risk it either.

My absolute secret to flying easily with a baby is to have a good baby carrier. I've tried all sorts but my sling worked best. The kind that dangle the child from the crotch, like Bjorns, aren't as comfortable. With a sling, wrap or pouch, you can slide the child in and out of any bassinet or car seat and it's nice to get on and off the aircraft hands-free, especially with other children in tow. I've had moms ask me where I got mine when they saw how much easier it made our flight.

About seven years ago I wrote an article on this subject for a local expat newsletter. I've since had lots of feedback from other parents and expanded it. I put it on a blog to share with other parents after seeing really dire advice on the web. I flew as a Flight Attendant for over 10 years before having my first baby and now I've been flying for 8 years with my own. Feel free to visit;

Have a good, eventful-free flight!
