High School Junior male using vintage messenger bags?

SignorRoss

Whats your opinion on a male preppy junior wearing a vintage messenger bag for High School, probably will still get it but would like to know what kind of reactions I'll get beforehand.

http://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Canvas-Leather-Explorer-Shoulder/dp/B005GWH2QW/ref=sr_1_8?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1342582828&sr=1-8

Answer
I love when guys wear vintage leather messenger bags. That one isn't bad. I like it. I just wouldn't like sling it over your head onto the other shoulder, I would just wear it on one shoulder. Also, I know guys that wear them, but they have a heavy slouch to the side where they carry it. Just make sure you don't have a slouch and you don't have anything to heavy in it. But I love when guys wear vintage leather messenger bags.

HELP!!! CUTE TOTE BAGS?

Danica Jor

I am a freshman and I need a new tote bag for school. I have to be able to carry my MacBook and at least 2 text books. I have looked in a WHOLE BUNCH of places but i cant really find anything i like! My current bag is a black Decree bag with Pyramid studs on it and I am hoping to get something similar but not the exact same thing. Anyone know any stores that i can get something cute?? PLEASE HELP! and i have already looked at A.E., Hollister, Abercrombie, and Aero... please any other stores, or something online.
please nothing too fancy
Ok... just a quick little side note... My bag is wearing out and ripping... its not that im obessed with Fashion or bags or any of that Jazz... Im on honor roll so all that is the least of my worries! thanks. plus i know what my goals are!

Answer
Try JC Penny, Target, Hamricks, KMart, Old Navy, Walmart, Cato, Claire's, Icing, Marshalls, TJ Max, Sears.
You need to look in some of these stores. You can always find a tote/purse/bag that is totally cute without having to be in the mall and w/o spending a large amount of money on something that you like. Seriously if your a freshman in HS, that should be the least of your worries...you need to start figuring out what college you want to go to, visit some colleges, declare a major so you do not have to waste money on classes that you don't need for your major. Pay attention to your school work...not boys, clothes, or gossip...the hard work and studying will payoff in the long run.
By the way, if you are in HS you may think that cute totes and clothes are the only important thing at this time in your life...it is one of the least important things okay. Promise to focus on your school work.

Severe Teenage depression?

SP123

Hello,I am a sixteen year old Syrian teenager. Before I go into the "what's wrong with me/help me part of this,I'd like to give you a little backstory of my life.

I was born in Syria to a Syrian Mother and Iraqi Father. When I was three years old,I moved to Dubai. After living there for over a year,my father decided to take us to California. We ended up staying there for seven years, and, once I turned 10 we moved back to Syria to be closer to family. Syria was great,Damascus was great. Around March 2011 the civil war brok out, however my family had decided to stay in the country regardless for the problems weren't as bad in the capital. We carried on living there for over a year and a half into the civil war. My father began fearing the safety of his family,so,like any sane parent would do,carried off and left to the States. But this time we went to Ohio instead.

Ohio was bland and we only stayed there for one year (last year) because my parents didn't enjoy it much, more notably my father fell into a major depression over what was going on in Syria as well as being so far away from home. Summer rolled along and we packed our bags.. Where too? Syria.

It was nice being able to see my family once again in Syria, but after three months one does get bored. Schools had begun in the U.S. and my father was once again lost on the infamous topic of where we were going to go next. So,my father landed on coming to Beirut,Lebanon to check out the situation for living as well as schools my siblings and I could be enrolled in.

I've been in Lebanon for a week now with my sister and father. My mother and younger sister are in Syria, should be coming soon though. And he still is confused as to where we are moving too. I personally really wanted to go back to California for my Education. I have stellar grades and determined to go to a prestigious higher learning institute. I myself have also fallen into a state of depression as to what my life has become of constantly moving and not knowing what's going to happen with my life. Are colleges going to look at me with disapproval when examining my rather bizarre lifestyle? I want to do what's best for my family and don't want them sacrificing their lives just for me. Schools have begun and I still don't know what's going to happen. Will my family move to Beirut? They are even in talks of just going back to Syria. My family really cares about me and tell me that they are sorry of the suffering but everyone suffers sometime in his life..

Answer
I don't think schools are going to be concerned about your frequent moves... As a minor they understand they weren't your choice. And other kids have similar experiences, especially those with parents in the military who have to move with each new posting.

And the stellar grades really aren't going to hurt. Schools will ignore anything for a well qualified student. The thing for you to do now is to look after your mental health and maintain your mental health. Look up some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques on one of the many free sites online. They can help you take the most positive attitude to what you and your family are going through.

can i exchange something i bought from a duty free shop?

belle

my dad just came back from London and whilst he was traveling he bought me and incredible bag which i adore however i would love to use it for school as i have used my mothers a couple of times for school and i really like using it as a school bag, but he got one which is a bit too bright as a colour for school and whilst i adore it anyway i think i would use it more if i maybe traded it in for a different colour. i have spoken to my dad and he was totally fine with me maybe trading it in for a different colour. but is there any way in which i can trade it in? he probably has the receipt but it was from a duty free store in dubai. my mum said that i may be able to trade it in to like a david jones (also i live in sydney) or something but im not sure without a receipt...

thankyou loads, and im sorry if i sound ungrateful or anything, i sound really spoilt but its just that it was so expensive and i feel bad if i didnt use it much...

Answer
You can only ask.

David Jones would be unlikely to play unless youre going to lie and say you did buy it there - do they have the same one exactly in stock?

Perhaps a smaller shop would be inclined to work with you.

BUT

Heres a tip from when I was a kid,

I won a cassette walkman (wow, how old am I) at my school, the walkman wasnt quite what I wanted so I took it into a store that had them and told a story that Id bought it but now wanted to change it for something else.

The shop attendant asked me to wait while I stood innocently at the counter and after a few minutes the manger came out and asked me to come into office which I dutifully did, a few more minutes and the police turned up.

Turned out three of that model had been stolen from their other store weeks before.

All got sorted in end but I could have made it go a lot smoother with the truth from the first minute or just keeping the damn thing :)

Tax free weekend, xbox 360?

John

Does an Xbox 360 qualify for tax free weekend? as in Will I pay taxes for it on tax free weekend?

Answer
Check with your state

In Virginia, tax free weekend covered school supplies, uniforms, shoes, book bags, calculators, etc.

Look at this list of tax free items in Texas to give you an idea of what could be tax free products http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/taxpubs/tx98_490/tx98_490.html

I highly doubt xbox is in the list of tax free items in any state

I need a plot that has to do with soccer because I am writing to an author and for one of our paragraphs we have to tell them what we want them to write next and I want it to be about soccer with the main character as a girl who plays it or is good at it and then there needs to be something interesting about her soccer life, but then I also want something about how she is falling for the most popular guy who is also into sports, but she isn't so popular. This is the base line and i just need some more detail from you! In case you want to know what her other books are like click the following links! It will help you and if you give me an answer!! Answer
She's from Seattle, Washington, is a top-level goalkeeper for her local club team, and her father works for Microsoft. He's been transferred to the Liverpool office in Great Britain, and the whole family has to move to England. Dad enrolls her in a private girls academy, but the timing of their arrival is such that the school year has already started, and the girls squad has already lost their first two matches of the season.

On her first day, she is introduced to the headmistress who discovers her interest in soccer. The headmistress directs her to attend soccer practice after school. When she shows up (wearing typical American soccer practice gear but not her pads or gloves) none of the girls like her - they don't like any Americans - and neither does the coach.

But then they see her play and . . . you can take it from there. Sometime during the season, the starting keeper gets injured in an important playoff match, and there's nobody to replace her. That's when your girl pulls her keeper gloves from her bag and tells the coach that she can do it! And she saves the day in a penalty shootout!

As for the boy side of the story line, you can build on the above outline. But there are no boys at a girls finishing school in the U.K., so he'll have to be from the boys school in the same town and they meet somehow or another, and he doesn't know anything about her as a soccer player. But he's a huge soccer player. He only finds out about her abilities at the big match.

Answer
Usafa Summer Seminar and West Point SLS are primarily seeking potential LOA recipients due to very high scholastic achievement, athletic recruits who meet the standards for direct appointment and will potentially be offered an LOA, diversity recruits who meet the scholastic standards for direct appointment and will potentially be offered an LOA, and athletic and diversity recruits who do not meet the scholastic standards for direct appointment but do meet the standards to be offered a slot at Usafa Prep as a Cadet Candidate. We do know that a 26 Math score is not in LOA range. We do not know if there is match with any of the other categories named above. Usafa Summer Seminar is extremely competitive for those who do not have athletic recruit or diversity attributes.
Good Luck!

What To Take To Boarding School?

XOXtwiligh

hi i am going to boarding school at rockhampton grammar school and i have no idea what to take and it would help if you had any ideas thank you bye :)

Answer
A school usually has a list of things necessary to take.
Besides there are many every day items personal tio you. Take them.
Keep extra clothes so that there is no pressure to wash. Also, so you do not have to wear dirty clothes.

Here is a list:
Bedding - Two to three sets of sheets. Dorm beds are usually twin or twin XL. The school probably offers some kind of laundry service but usually does not provide bedding. Also bring along blankets of varying weights for layering. Temperature might be controlled by each floor or even building and might not be your ideal comfort level. Pillows may or may not be provided.
Towels - Again, at least two. Clearly mark with your name so they don't get switched up with others in the bathroom.
Toiletries - Enough for several weeks. Bring more than you think you will need. Some boarding schools are secluded and it may be difficult to get into town for more supplies. Suggested items: shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, facial cleaner, styling products, make-up, feminine products. Also get a shower caddy for carting your stuff down to the bathroom.
Alarm clock - Don't be late for class! Get something that is easy to see from bed (large numbers) so you always know how many more minutes you can snooze.
Desk lamp - An item that may be provided, but it doesn't hurt to have more light. You will need to bring light bulbs.
Computer - While there may be an open computer lab, it is more convenient to work on your own machine. Check with each teacher as to whether you will be allowed to use laptops in class.
Headphones - Don't be rude to your roommate; wear headphone when listening to music.
Casual clothing - Even if your school requires a uniform, you will need your own clothes for the weekend. Dress for the season. Bring scarves, gloves, thermal underwear, etc., especially if you're not used to cold weather.
Formal clothing - Many schools host formal event for their students. Bring a couple of choices so you're not stuck wearing the same thing to all of them.
Laundry bag - You'll need something that can hold several days' laundry but can easily be hauled to the laundry room. Collapsible baskets are very convenient.
Small duffel bag - Good weekend trips back home or short overnight field trips.
School supplies - Best case scenario, your teachers will provide you with a list of supplies before school starts. If you don't get anything like this, just pick up the basics (notebooks, pens and pencils, etc.)
Sewing kit - Just something small. You don't have to be a master seamstress, but you should be able to fix a button or small hole.
Fan - Dorm rooms often get unbearably hot. A small fan clipped by your face can help keep you cool all night.
Extension cords/surge protectors - Because many boarding school are converted homes, outlets may be in unusual places (in closet, behind bookcase, etc.). Extension cords allow you to "move" the outlet to somewhere more convenient for everyday use. Surge protectors are also essential in buildings with older wiring.
Stationary and stamps - Don't let letter writing become a lost art. Email is convenient for your friends, but family members will appreciate the thoughtfulness of a handwritten note. Another idea: purchase and stamp postcards ahead of time. Space restrictions save time.
Duct tape - School employees will be responsible for maintaining facilities, but you are responsible for your own belongings. Duct tape can only keep things together until the management arrives (if something breaks at night or over the weekend).
Room decorations - Let your room inspire you. Fill it with posters, family photos, and your own work.

Do u like this school bag? 10 points?

James

Hi I'm a 14 year old boy and wondering if this manbag would look good for school and also what position should i place the bag to the side or to my back left or right? 10 points good detailed answer. http://www.jdsports.co.uk/product/adidas-originals-adicolor-airline-bag/044535/

Answer
I am about your age and quick a couple of kids have that bag at my school and schools in the area. Some days it'd be helpful to wear but whatever is comfortable and easy to deal with for you. It may hurt your should and your binder may not fit in the bag. Whatever hand you write with the bag should be placed on the opposite. It's a very nice blue colour but before purchasing make sure you see your other choices and gurantee you'll love your bag by school time.

Answer
1) Should gov look into your kids lunch bag? What is this- communism? No

2) Should gov decide or evaluate food inside homemade lunches? No, I'm pretty confident in my parenting skills, and I trust others to do the same.

3) Should gov give kids food - including milk or meat - if they think that the child needs that even if a family is vegans and give their child a meat/milk alternative? No way, unless of course we are talking about china where that kind of intervening is accepted.

4) Do you think government is intruding? Yes, they seem to think they are the parents of all these kids.

5) Do you think there should be public schools fordifferent needs suchas Libertyschools that teach self-reliance and dependency/gov intervention schools? That actually a really good idea. I was raised by a single-non-working mom and whoa, I sure was surprised that health care, food, and shelter isn't free when I moved out.

6) Do you want your kids lunch bag to be reviewed to see if it meets FDA stds? Not by anyone that isn't me.

When I was a little boy I like to go outside and play in the yard. As a boy I had toy trucks and cars I kept in my book bag. All my friends and cousins would come to my house to play video games. As a boy I liked to climb the tree in my backyard. As a boy, I never liked to eat my vegetables. I was a child that had a lot of hair. I was very social and liked to talk to other children and adults. My friends were a mix of boys and girls and they were all a lot of fun. I could sleep in as late as i wanted when i was really little. My mom would make me sit at the table until I ate them. That really did not work because I would just sit there. Our neighborhood had a lot of kids, and we spent all summer playing.
We considered an entire two or three blocks to be our private playground, playing hide-and-seek or war. When I went to school I played basketball will all the bigger kids. I used to play soccer for my school. I was very misbehaved as a little boy. I was always in timeout and detention. At recess everyone would play softball so I would try to play but the older kids would always take my turn. Then they saw I was really good so they let me play.
In the summer I would go to camp with my brothers for the whole summer. At camp I played capture the flag and had water balloon fights. At camp we did a lot of fun activities and games. When we got back home everyone would want to know how it went. As a boy, me and my friends would ride ours bikes around the neighborhood and have races. I would always win and we all got left with scares. We had a dog when I was younger as well. The dog was very rough and playful. The first time I saw him, he knock me over. Summer was always a wonderful time. The swimming pool always opened the Monday after school was out, and Malcom and I were always allowed to use the one dollar refund of our school book deposit fee to buy a summer's season ticket at the swimming pool. The pool was across town, just past the football field, not far from the city park
In the winters I remember always playing in the snow. We had snow ball fight and made snowmen. When I was younger there was a big blizzard and the snow was over my head. One day school got canceled and my mom made my favorite. Then me and my brothers went out to play in the snow. I put on my favorite boots.
As a boy I went to Disney World with my school. We went to all the amusement parks and ate at a lot of restaurants. The rides were all fun and the food was delicious. Me and my friend got lost for a couple hours and everyone was looking for us.Then my parents came and took me and my brothers to Universal Studios. All the rides there were fun too like the roller coaster.
When I got a little older I started to play football. I was in little league and I had never played before. I was fast so the coaches put me some where on the field. Then started to really like football.

a good prank to pull on a kids backpack at school when we have sport?

slehboy

there is a kid he is so mean in year eight he got all of my pencils out of my bag and broke it up and throw it at me so over $20.00 gone now i am in year ten i just pranked him last week i got his backpack and put all of his stuff like his phone in the front of his bag and padlocked his bag up he got so mad.

Answer
If youre school has a pool, or you can use the P.E changing rooms, when he gets changed nick his clothes and put them in somebody elses locker, somebody else will get the blame, or when he is on the loo at school, where you can see the lock on the outside of the door, wedge it with gum, he will get stuck in,if he does a school club after school, get a friend of yours to tell him, such and such teacher wants him for a minute, when he goes there you and your friends stick post stick notes on the door to where his club is and write on it go to ______ room. when he gets to this room leave another one saying go to ______room, keep dong it on all the doors. When he keeps following them and gets back to the begining he will be so cheesed off. Wedge a water balloon behind his locker door, so when he opens it he gets a good suprise, find a door somewhere which only he will go through, open it slightly, balance a few trainers on top of it when he opens the door, shoes will fall on his head, hoped this helped, i am in year nine, oh and tip a packet of coco pops over his head, i did that to someone in year 7, as payback of course.

Should I use a backpack or tote bag in high school?

Live Laugh

I'm going to be a freshman on Monday, and I've already bought a backpack, but now I'm having second thoughts. I carried a tote bag from Hollister last year, and i loved the way it looked, but it got heavy and bothered my shoulders sometimes. I thought carrying a backpack might even out the weight, since i will be carrying more things this year, but I just liked how the tote bag looked. what do most people in your high school do? please help!

Answer
Most of the kids in my high school have backpacks, I use a backpack a lot because a tote bag hurts my shoulders too, the straps help even out the weight. I suggest going with backpack.

Freshman tips, supplies, and help? ?

Paula

Well I'm going to be a freshman in high school this upcoming 2011-2012 school year. I'm so nervous even though summer has just begun, I already feel like a freshman. I am taking art, band, English, science, Spanish, math and world history. And this is what I was wondering:
-What school supplies should I start stocking up on?
-How is high school different from middle school/junior high.
-What are some "emergency" items girls should carry?
-What are some cute bags to carry my stuff in?
Thanks a bunch! All answers are appreciated <3

Answer
I was a freshman for the 2010-2011 year, so I know what you feel :)

For Art, rubber erasers, color pencils, notebooks, etc.
Band- Instrument (obviously) *I play trumpet for our band*, pencil, folder for music,
Other subjects- basic stuff like 3 ring binders, looseleaf paper, pens, pencils, erasers, notebooks.
Math- Scientific calculator, lots of graph paper, ruler and other math-like stuff :)

High School isn't really too different than middle school! The people are just bigger and the teachers don't baby you as much! Everyone says it is way way different and it seems like it for a week or two, but after that, I wondered why I was so freaked out. Just relax and be yourself. Oh, and don't let the seniors mess with you hahaha :) Just kidding! They won't! Just stay with your friends and make lots of new ones!

Emergency items? Well, carry girl stuff. I carried wet wipes and hand sanitizer and stuff like that... oh and a pack of tissues. But thats just what I carried. Its up to you.

I carried my stuff in a Vera Bradley bookbag. It held up pretty well. Never broke haha :) Roxy brand bags are good too. Almost anything large and sturdy that you can put over your shoulder should work just fine!

Trust me. I made it, you will too! Best of luck in high school! Hope I helped!

Do i need a bag for tennis at high school? and do you have any suggestions on a bag?

unknown

im in 9th grade and this is my first year in high school, and well i do want to get a tennis bag, cause i might end up carrying around a second racquet, but in middle school nobody really used a tennis bag, they had the ones that held one racquet, which i thought was kinda dumb since thats all they had in it so i didnt use anything and i just kept my racquet in my locker :P

anyway, i want a bag, that will still fit in my locker, i was wondering if i should get a 3 bag? or do people not use bags either in high school? it just confuses me :(

i was looking at this bag http://www.tennisexpress.com/WILSON-Pro-⦠its small and doesn't really look like it will get in the way, and i hope it will fit in my locker since i dont wanna carry it around all day, anyway, anyone wanna help me with this one? :P

is that a good one if i need one? and if not does anyone have any other suggestions? and also, what else do you think i can fit in that bag if i only have one racquet? like water, food, and extra tennis balls and stuff? thanks :)

Answer
A lot of the bags I've seen players carrying around are too big to fit in the lockers I've seen in public American high schools. If you carry a big, flashy tennis bag to school with you, other kids will surely notice, including *thieves.* This goes for anything you take to high school.

If you have a good size backpack, that should be OK.

If you absolutely MUST have a big tennis bag like your stars on TV, shop around for deals: Internet, local sporting good stores, other stores that sell duffle bags, too. Think about getting one with wheels on it so you can take it on planes with you when you start playing the Futures, Challengers, and then finally, traveling with the top dogs on the ATP World Tour. Best wishes :-)

would 7-10 year old kids like a backpack or a duffle bag as a gift?

Shitij-www

I have to give a freebie gift to children aged 7-10 years. I've noticed they either carry a cartoon backpack (Barbie, Ben10, Batman, etc) or a branded backpack (Nike, Adidas, Puma) to school.
Would these kids appreciate a well design backpack or a well design duffle (gym) bag to use for travel and hobby classes.

Answer
I have a 7 year old nephew and he likes this bag pack

Green Lantern Backpack

If they are 7 year old girls they probably would like a bag pack but more like this

Alex Color A Flower Bag

What to put in Halloween treat bags?

Brandi

Im an aide on a Special Needs bus and I plan on doing treat bags for the kids. The driver chooses not to do it, ut I want to do something special for the kids. Age range is from preschool to high school. I don't want to do more for the little ones and leave the highschoolers feeling like they got something corny. I also don't want to drop a fortune. What could I buy that's for all ages other than candy?

Answer
thw classics are penciles, errasers, stickers, temp tattoos, etc. older kids will like it better if you put some full size candy bars in their bags. i know when i was a teen my favorite houses were the ones that have out full size loot, and it will set their bags apart from the "little kid" stuff.

Would this be a good halloween fundraiser for the junior class in high school?

Back2Schoo

Would this be a good halloween fundraiser for the junior class in high school?

Okay so we have a pretty small school, 75 people in the biggest class, and not too many teachers that it would be too much - what if, on halloween, when everybodys dressed in their costumes we did a classroom trick or treat thing where people paid $1.00 for a bag or something and then went to classrooms to get candy but they could only get candy with the bag we sold them? Would it get us alotta money? The bags wont cost too much if we get them at the dollar store but the thing is the candy- that might cost alot especially if everyone buys bags, unless some teachers buy their own candy. What do you think?

Answer
Yes that's good and not too expensive if so you can do a smaller 50 cent bag and call it halloween lotto as they don't know what candy they can get:)
(better not have peanuts in any bag and check with teachers for kids with allergies for safety reasons, Good Luck)

Let me tell you a joke..(better go to jokes and riddles category)

In a flight some vip's were travelling. (this is a old joke. don't mind old vip's) Ronaldinho, Hillary, Bush, Pope and a school boy. The captain suddenly announced that the plane will crash and that all of them must take a life jacket and jump. But there were only 4 life jackets for five. Ronaldinho said "I'm young and famous and have wife and kids. I'm a great football player. So i'll jump first." and he jumped. then came hillary. she said "i have chances of being elected next. i'm very needed in politics. besides, my husband needs me. so i'll jump" and she did. bush said" I'm the MOST imp person in America. without me, america will perish. so let me jump. he too took a life jacket and jumped. the pope and the school boy were left behind. the pope said "i'm old and have experienced everything. but you are still young and need to live .therefore you jump." but the school boy said"don't worry. we have enough jackets. the person who said that he is the MOST imp person of America took my school bag instead.!!!!!!!!!"

Sorry supporters of Bush!

how can i act like paris hilton?? (poses, sayings, etc.)?

Mzlafflotz

plz no mean answers... im a middle school using my daddys account.

Answer
1.You may want to Become a blonde! Though this step is not completely necessary. If you decide to dye your hair, try a light platinum blonde.
2.[Change your hairstyle all the time. Ever notice how Paris's hair is long one minute, and short the next? If you can't afford to get it cut and get extensions all the time, just make sure you do it differently every day. Alternate from straight to curly, tied up in a high ponytail to in low pigtails. Paris actually has always had her hair very short, but she often wears hair extensions. Try and get a plain extension that you can style yourself.
3.Use a light fake tanner if you are not very tan. Don't put too much on. Don't make it streaky and don't let it turn you orange. The point is to look like you just got back from Barbados, instead of looking like you put on self-tanner.
4.Wear ultra cute shoes all the time. Paris is known for her great shoe collection. You do not always have to wear heels, as long as if they are really cute flats (tennis shoes have to be cute and clean -- not dirty). Most of your shoes should be pink. Pink high heels are essential. If you're not that comfortable with high heels, cute pink flip flops will work too! Try and get a huge selection of shoes, even if they are not very expensive.
5.Make sure your clothes are unique with a little designer flair to them! But make sure whatever you wear, you started it, not anyone else!
6.Go to parties and throw parties. If you make yourself the ultimate party essential, then you will get automatic invites! Be known at a party; as Paris said in episode number 2 of The Simple Life 4: "Don't be a floor hog, stay in the VIP room for a while, or else you will look desperate."
7.Stay single! If you do, you can do whatever you want instead of having one steady boyfriend.
8.Be outgoing, fun, and show confidence. Don't hesitate to liven up a party or draw attention to you or act a bit selfish and bossy.
9.Be carefree. Paris never gives a flying fish about what people think about her. Go ahead and wear a crazy hairstyle, or something that people wouldn't expect you to wear. Be that trendsetter, go do crazy, stupid things, laugh at your mistakes, and you'll be a Paris in no time!
10.Make sure you have those close best friends with you, so you can share the attention; you don't want to seem stuck up, like you're too cool for friends! You always need your girls, to hang with at the parties, talk about those dreadful rumors that just started about you, and of course - the boys! You must have one best friend that you do everything with! Fall out a lot and have a lot of arguments! Be seen everywhere with them, and do exactly the same thing! Never, ever be on your own! This friend is like your assistant, they should follow you and be willing to do anything for you! Don't treat her like rubbish! And make sure she is blond, and wears all the latest fashion!
11.Act like you are a princess! When you need help with something, (which, if you're really like Paris, would be everything.) Playing dumb isn't always bad. It's actually a good flirting technique. It's what Paris does!
12.Have a catch phrase! "That's hot", "that's beyond", and "oh baby" are all good ones! Toss it into any sentence and people will automatically think of you as a little Paris! But whatever you do, don't steal Paris' name; that's just not cool.
13.Try going to lots of parties! Paris is popular for this, and everyone will think that you're a socialite!
14.Develop a love for pink! Everything you own must be pink! Pink is your friend. Like it, and wear it. Everything you have in your wardrobe should relate to pink in some way. Own pink minis, and pink camis. If you are still in school, flaunt your love of pink with folders, bags, pens...all in pink! Make sure everyone knows your fave color!
15.Buy some huge, oversized sunglasses and never take them off! Paris style glasses would be pink with diamonds, or white framed! You can find these in most shops! If you want to accessories further, try cool headbands or cute dangly earrings with some sparkle on them!
16.Learn how to strike one pose for all your photos one that makes you look great! Paris has the same pose in 97% of all her pictures, so you need to do the same. Use one that will always make you look great no matter what you are looking like that day. Everytime someone wants to snap your picture use that pose.
17.Walk around with a huge bag and a chiuahua! This is just like Paris Hilton!

[edit] Tipsâ¢Don't act bratty in public. Only to a single person in privateabsolutely necessary. Otherwise, act like the sweet little princess you really are!
â¢Don't be afraid to shock anybody, that's what will make them talk about you. Now don't go get too crazy, and get drunk, and do stuff you shouldn't be doing! You don't have to do everything like Paris!
â¢Wear designers, but smaller designers like 2bfree and Nicky Hilton are awesome. They state that you have money, but at the same time you're

Use of backpacks/school bags in history?

19stepsup

Does anyone know the history of bookbags? By that I mean what type of bags were used by kids going to school in the 1930's, 40's, 50's, etc, up to modern bookbags. Pictures/links?

Thanks!

Answer
The school satchel was popular in Britain, although most High school kids would have a briefcase like Dad's. My satchel had straps to carry on my back rather than slung over my shoulders. It was very awkward especially when wearing a damp gabardine overcoat.

It's a very nice blue colour but before purchasing make sure you see your other choices and gurantee you'll love your bag by school time.

on a food stamp budget 382.00 19th of each month family of five how can i stretch into next month kids r picky?

Sonia Perk

i'm not that good at grocery shopping or couponing but want to learn open for suggestions. i have kids snacks for school have to buy, husbands lunch, and meal ideas.

Answer
Being picky is a luxury they can't afford right now.

If the kids are older make them get after school jobs.

The kids can do chores that help with budgeting and meal prep.

For example they can help clip coupons look through sales flyers with you (I did that from about 1st grade with my mom).

Snacks for school were a luxury for me and my sister because we were poor.

Make a large meal and be creative with left overs. Meatloaf for example can be made into sandwiches. A chicken can be turned into chicken salad and soup.

See if you can get the free lunch/breakfast at the school for the kids and tell them to eat the school meal or what ever you have at home if anything (my mom told us school lunch or pb sandwiches, those were our options if we didn't want to starve).

You will have to learn to shop on a budget but make the kids help you. Do it when hubby can baby sit smaller ones (under the age of 10) and teach the older ones about unite prices, etc. so they can help you spot sales and one can carry the coupon holder and help you with taking out coupons.

My boyfriend loves meat so we go over to the meat department (he is probably like your kids in a candy store, licking his lips at meat) and we check out sales. Usually we get a whole chicken and ground beef because that is cheap (we can get a whole chicken at .89 a pound some weeks and ground beef for 1.49 a pound). On occasion we may find a roast on sale or after holidays ham may be marked down to .89 a pound (spit pea and ham soup anyone).

After that we try to buy things we make from scratch. For example all though rice a roni and lipton noodles are tasty, it's cheaper to get a big bag of Carolina rice. Save the pre made stuff for when you have a good sale going and can splurge a little.

Get generic brand of cream of condensed soups, those can be very good for easy recipes.

For cereal, get generic/bagged cereals. I find that cereal is the biggest rip off. You pay 3 times the price for that cute tiger on the box.

For fruits/veggies check out sales and try to think of the shelf life when buying fresh produce. Oranges/grapefruits tend to last awhile so if there is a good sale buy some and use those for snacks/breakfasts. Check out farmer stands/markets for good deal and consider doing pick your own fruits with the kids for a family outing that can save you money (for example, I got blue berries very cheap per pound by doing pick your own and I froze most of them). Also consider stocking up on frozen items for veggies/fruits when on sale.

Pastas are usually cheap when you buy generic and you can make some wonderful things with left overs if you use pasta (I have for example simply browned some ground beef and used canned sauce to make a filling dinner when added to some nice pasta).

Milk is every expensive these days. Save your empty milk bottles and buy gallons when on sale.

Why? Because you can freeze milk. Pour a little bit out (like a cup) and put the bottle in the freezer or if your family doesn't go through a lot of milk split the gallon in half by pouring into into a half gallon (or a couple of quarts if you really don't use a lot and free them!) Just remember to make sure you don't put a complete full bottle of milk in the freezer because it will expand. I usually let it thaw for 12-24 hours in the fridge before using.

As for snacks, those are luxuries, you can keep an eye on sales or just try making your own. It is a lot cheaper to make cookies from scratch and it can be a fun activity for you and the kids. Just grab a bag of generic chips and look up easy cookie recipes (or use the one on the bag).

Get your Sunday paper and check out flyers for sales coupons.

You can also get online coupons there is even a site that let's you load them onto your membership card.

I hope you won't take my advice about telling the kids they can't be too pick to heart. Would you rather your children go hungry? It is a tough life lesson but they need to learn to eat what is in front of them.

How to get kids clothing at a discount?

Craig D

Answer
If you have children you would know how expensive kids clothing can be. Shopping for kids clothing can be a total nightmare, especially if it is school re-opening time you are shopping for back to school items including uniforms, shoes and backpacks. Whatâs more, kids seem to want the latest in fashions when it comes to clothes and backpacks and that age just keeps getting younger every year. Years ago, kids were easily pleased; today, the much loved game of âtagâ has taken on a whole new meaning as kids vie with each other for designer labels.

I think the best for you is to read this entire article which is exactly about: Getting Kids Clothing at a Discount

They usually have deals around now.
Looking for a bargain? Go to Sears, name brands on discount especially around now.

Backpacks, depending on your taste, if your sporty, u'd like PUMA and Adidas Mini Bags,

Messenger bag/ satchel for school?

Hannah

I am looking for a satchel/messenger bag for school. I would like for it to be strong and for me to be able to buy it at a store at a mall instead of ordering it online.
Something like this:

Answer

Which midwest chain stores are selling Pokemon backpacks these days?

Maureen

Has anyone seen them in Target? Toys R Us? K-mart? Value City? Kohls? Walmart?

I see them on e-Bay but am hoping to find them locally, to avoid the shipping charges.

Have you seen them in any local midwest stores? Thanks!

Answer
A few weeks ago, when we were back to school shopping with the kids, I saw them at TJ Maxx. I'm not sure if you have that there, but they had a pretty big selection.
Also, amazon.com has some, and their shipping rates are relatively cheap.

How can I save up to backpack abroad and should I do it alone?

LMB

I'm a 22 year old woman and I just graduated college with a degree in journalism. I've always had a traveler's spirit and few things make me happier than exploring new places. I've always wanted to travel abroad, but the responses I am getting are split down the middle. Some older or settled people tell me to do it while I can and that they would have done it in a heart beat if they'd thought about it when they were younger while others( like my mother and father) tell me to start my career immediately.
I do want to start a career, but I'd prefer to travel for some months first. I've been reading some advice on how to do this and some suggest to get a job and save up before traveling. Can anyone suggest jobs that are useful for someone who simply wants to save up to go abroad? Once I'm abroad I would like to stay in a hostel and perhaps teach or do some other work. However, I am a girl and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to do this alone. However, I don't have any friends that I am sure would be able to join me. Any advice there?
Thank you.

Answer
Congrats on your graduation and welcome to the world of journalism. I am a journalist and was once in exactly your situation. I had actually studied abroad over the summer between my last two years of college and that served to sharpen my wanderlust.

My situation worked out nicely. I worked for four years after graduation, paid off some bills and saved and saved and saved, and then took off for five weeks and backpacked/Eurailed around Europe. I almost went with a friend. He and I planned and prepared right up until two months before departure. Then he had to drop out when his parents cut off his funding due to an untimely divorce. I was devastated and almost canceled my trip, but I decided no, I had been working toward this ever since I was a little kid saving up to buy ViewMaster reels of Europe with my allowance money while my little friends bought Hot Wheels cars. (Yikes, I just dated myself, didn't I?)

Anyway, traveling solo was the greatest experience and my favorite way to see Europe. Not having my buddy along forced me to interact with Europeans on the trains, at cafés, etc., where otherwise I might have been just chatting with my friend. Now I generally travel with a close friend. In the past I've actually parted ways with a travel companion while we took side adventures for a few days on our own, reuniting later.

To fund my first several trips, I took on a second, after-work job and all the money from that job went directly into my "Europe fund." Now I've reached the point where I just sock away money from each paycheck until the Europe fund is healthy again.

I have taken bunches of trips since that first, eye-opening, magical experience. I learned I need to budget my spending money better (I ran out with a week to go and horribly abused my credit cards), and found ways to get The Boss to approve me taking more than the company-allocated miserable two weeks of vacation so I can do a proper 3-4 week trip to Europe. I also learned not to skimp when it comes to buying my backpack. (The frame of my cheapo army surplus $26 pack was damaged before I even removed it from the baggage carousel in London. Later a dangling external structural bit stuck a lady in a crowded train corridor in Germany, who had quite a lot to say on the matter, and even though my German is nowhere near fluent, I knew precisely what she was saying.)

So...my advice is to go as soon as you can comfortably afford to go. Take no more than one friend with you, if you must, and know that friend well. (I was so relieved when a twit I thought I knew well ditched me in Hamburg without telling me, then resurfaced in Switzerland and expected me to pay for part of his hotel room when he misread our itinerary and got there two days early.) Going solo is not so bad for a woman traveler in most of western Europe. The farther east and south you go, the more sexist the culture and the more apt the menfolk are to stare, paw and pinch, but west and north is perfectly safe. Just take the same precautions you'd take at home, and as my friend Judy points out to our students, never carry more than you're able to run 10 blocks with when you're late for a train. (Jude, who only does solo, independent travel, also says not to carry any jewelry or anything else you don't mind losing.)

Oh, you asked about jobs for saving up for your Europe expenses. I have done all sorts of stuff, including ad layout for a weekly newspaper, and tons of freelance graphic design and writing work. Freelance is awesome because you can set your own rates and work hours. If you want to try working abroad while you're over there in Europe, visit the Council on International Educational Exchange's website, www.ciee.org, and look into their work abroad program. It's mostly service-industry type jobs (hotel maids, bartenders, etc.) but it's a great way to plunge into the local culture.

One other thing, once you start going to Europe, you won't be able to stop. My retirement account is pitiful and I have never owned a home. Every time I save up enough money, I go back to Europe for another three or four weeks!

dropping a barbie with a homemade parachute.?

Ashley

how do i make a parachute?
it can't be made out of a bag.
do you have any ideas....
please list websites too.
i can't figure out any other options.

Answer
Once, I had a job doing science demonstrations for schools and stuff. We did the egg drop activity. It usually ended up in a lot of mess. Most kids tried to just wrap the egg in enough stuff to absorb the impact.

One kid had a super simple design. He took two pieces of paper and taped them together length wise. The paper is 8½ x 11 inches. The paper taped together ended up 8½ x 22 inches. He then cut slits in the middle of the paper. These did not extend all of the way to the edges. Probably stopped within an inch or so of the edge. The slits were done on the 8½ direction of the paper. He placed these about an inch or so apart from each other. In our demonstration, we did not have string (just to make it harder for the kids). He used folded tape instead of string. I would advice using string. connect the string at the 4 corners of the paper using staples. Bring the ends of the strings down about 2 feet or so and connect to the barbie. When she is dropped the paper will act like a parachute. The slits in the paper allow air to flow thru it and not just under it. This helps keep this parachute from drifting. The kid who made this was able to keep his egg from cracking. It would make more sense if I could show you what he made.

Things to do with four kids whilst babysit?

~Claire~ F

I'm babysitting three girls and a little boy tonight, ages 5, 5, 3, and 2. Any ideas of what do to? And what should I charge? I usually let the parents decide, is that a fair deal?

BQ: Other things I can do to save up for an iPod in the next few months?

Answer
ok for the money,i usually charge 5 bucks a hour. but here are some things u need to consider before YOU quote a price.
-what are other babysitters in the neighborhood charging??
-how many kids will u be looking after??
-are u expected to prepare meals??
-are the parents going to be out past midnight?? (if so, charge a dollar more per hour after midnight)
and get the money question settled in the beggining;dont leave it to chance.

well for things to do.................THERE ARE TONS!!!!! i have a book called the ultimate babysitters survival guide and it is loaded with information. i would recomend buying a book like it. anyways back to things to do.here are some things!
- colour ( maybe if the parents are out for a aniversary dinner u could make cards! or any ocasion or even a i love u card from the kids to the parents)
- play babies with the girls/house
-hide and seek
-go for a nice walk and play i spy along the way
-scavenger hunt (for 2 years old and less i would prefer saying can u find a plant???! or somthing easy)
-print off some rymes and fingerplays ( i no my little sister loves it when i teach her them she really likes the bummble bee one!)
-read some AGE APPROPRIATE books aloud to them
-let the girls (and or even the little boys lol its funny but trust me they like to) brush your hair and put brets in and pony tails just let them play with your hair.
-i no that alot of little girls like crafts so bring glue siccors crayons paper and research some crafts before the job)
-you could make masks
-paper bag puppets
- play i pack my bag
- play dont sink the raft!
- play chase but dont chase the 2 or 3 year old because they will be looking back at you to see if u are catching up and they may run into somthing. so let eeryone chase u but make u act scared but in a silly way so they dont get bored.
-if u play dress up pick up the girl who is dressed up and say ' i give you, princess megan!' or what ever the childs name is. just pretend that they are a princess and they will love it!
-put on some again, AGE APPROPRIATEmusic and dance with them but make sure you do this in an open space u dont want them tripping and bonking heads!!!
- kids ages 3 and up LOVE playing anything that mimics real life such as storekeeper, librarian, school teacher or policeman! and make sure u give positave feedback, if the child says " lets play fireman!' u will say somthing like this 'thats a great idea; fireman are very brave because they run into places that are on fire to save people!'
- if its realy warm out, water games are a blast;running through a sprinkler, playing with water guns, and so on! just always remember to put sunscreen on the kids and sunscreen specalised for babys. and HATS!!!!! and make sure u give them lots of water to drink!
- drawing on the side walk with chalk, or a paint brush with water
- kids two years and up love playing ball, take turns kicking the ball, or sit with your legs apart and roll the ball to eachother!
-building blocks is a great fun to play with toddlers!
-play doe
-bubbles ( if u dont have any bubble mix u can make some out of water and DISH soap)
-role playing ( sort of like sherads u act somthing out and u have to guess what they are but when u are role playing make sure u do somthing the kids can get like a cat)
-set up a fort ( use sofa cushions, blankets and chairs kids love areas were the can crawls manuver and pretend! just make sure that the fort is put away before the parents get home!)
- maybe bring a barbie ( just hopefully its not yours cuz parents want to hire mature babysiters)
but thats all i got for games! but i have another tecnique that will help u! some people call it the magic bag ( i call it the magic bag for the kids i babysit cuz ity gets them really exited) or the babysitting bag. what it is, is a tote bag that is filled with things to do with the kids! and it really works!!!!!! one time i forgot the 'magic bag' and the little girl started crying! its a life saver!!! here are some things to put in your magic/ babysitting bag:
-a pencil case ull of WAX CRAYONS NO ink makers! wax crayons are the best for kids!!!!!
- a colouring book ( i am not aloud to take one of my little sisters colouring books to babysitting jobs, so i print them off the internet! and its free and i have so many now i have probobly around 100
-stickers ( i will tell u y after the next one)
- sticker book ( have a book that u call the sticker book and have a page for each child and everytime they do somthing good u let them choose a sticker and stick it where they want on their page and once they get a whole page done then u rip the page out of the book and let them keep it but if the child is 4 and under i would just put the page on the frige so the parents can see it when they get home!)
- a babysitting binder. the babysitting binder is a binder with files in it. and each file is one of the kids/families u babysit for and on their file u right down wh
