Answer
I'm answering from the UK, so all of the links I provide will be from the UK (I don't know many fashion stores in the US.)

Here's one I like from Jack Wills:
http://www.jackwills.com/Store/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductRef=003326&Option=003326092

Boots have quite a good selection, I've just decided to provide my search link, as Yahoo will only allow me to answer with a maximum of 10 links:
http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?namespaceOfTemplate=null&userType=null&Nr=AND%28DIM_PREMIUM_BRAND_FLAG%3aN%2cDIM_PARENT_PRODUCT_ID%3aIS_PARENT%29&Ntk=DIM_PARENT_CATEGORY_IDS&showBreadcrumb=null&langId=-1&namespaceOfContent=null&landId=-1&catalogId=11051&liveHelp=null&Nty=1&userState=null&rfqLinkDisplayed=null&categoryParentId=3430978&No=0&Ntt=4791&storeId=10052&Ntx=mode%2bmatchall&N=0&categoryId=4791&st=category&Rpp=60&Ns=

John Lewis have some REALLY nice ones, I've just decided to provide my search link, as Yahoo will only allow me to answer with a maximum of 10 links:
http://www.johnlewis.com/Beauty/Toiletry+and+Wash+Bags/Toiletry+and+Wash+Bags/Toiletry+and+Wash+Bags/5331/ProductCategory.aspx#&&/wEXAQUHYWpheFVybAVtU1JUL0JlYXV0eS9Ub2lsZXRyeStfMjYrV2FzaCtCYWdzL1RvaWxldHJ5K18yNitXYXNoK0JhZ3MvVG9pbGV0cnkrXzI2K1dhc2grQmFncy81MzMxLzAvMC9Qcm9kdWN0Q2F0ZWdvcnkuYXNweH3t9rdAhvGtezAEJo5d4nYSxUfP
(I particularly like the Cath Kidston ones!)

Marks & Spencers have some really nice ones as well:

Monsoon:
http://www.monsoon.co.uk/Passion-Flower-Make-Up-Bag/invt/69162540&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,womenaccessories,beautygiftforher
(This is pretty!)

I'd also try supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsburies, Asda, & Morrisons. It might be worth checking TK MAXX also.

Hope I helped!

My grade is going on a class trip. What are some easy funraisers we can do?

Q. We need to raise a little over $2,000. No emidiate dealines....but ASAP!!!! Also this is junior high......
thanks!

Answer
My class went on a school trip to London for 3 days, but we were going to see some West End shows so it would have cost us a lot. We paid £80 each I think and we needed to raise another £500 or something like that. We went to Asda for two days with two people on a checkout helping people pack their shopping bags, and a bucket so that people could give us money if they wanted to. We actually raised quite a lot.
Hope this helps. (:

Answer
Well, in my school all you NEEDED was a good quality pen. But, I also brought a mobile phone, all my school books, a novel, paper, water bottle, cheap ballpoint pens for spare, a pencil sharpener which I carried in the bottom of my bag for years, despite not having a pencil...

We didn't have any of those american style lockers in my school. We just had a box the size of... a small box, anyway. Just big enough to get your sports bag in. And they charged you £40 a year for it! What a rip. Luckily they forgot about my locker so I got to keep it for like 5 years.

My school bag was a hiking backpack with a Jeep branding (for some reason). It lasted for 4 years, while my friends "designer" Nike, Adidas, Quicksilver bags lasted like 6 months max. I still have it today.

If you go to school at 16 you'll be in either Sixth form at a normal school where you don't have to wear uniform and you get to choose your lessons (or not show up at all to some!), or a college, which is more like a university then a school, but 16 - 18 year olds go there.

Something I could start doing after 2 years training in community college or even work my way up from the bottom if I got hired right now, or something I could do after taking a NOLS course? Studying animals, plants, trees, rocks, trail maintenance? Where do I begin? I can't work with the public or any sort of policing/rangering isn't my style, nor anything more dangerous than hiking/backpacking. I can't teach kids or give speeches. I could write reports, make observations, do hard work, but not Sherpa style, and no internships or volunteering which are against my philosophy. Have I whittled it down to nothing?
None of these anwesrs give me much of a clue, so I'll let this one go to voting.

Answer
Maybe something in biology.., forest service, or maybe taking care of someones property..it may not pay as well but there is a web site called, caretakers.com.. I belonged to it several years ago and most of the work was not that great, but sometimes there would be a posting for someone to care for a remote place and your job would be feeding animals and some, other care taking or something like thal, it may be worth looking into...go look, you may find what you want and be very well worth the effort...good luck .... I know what you need...

What national park has alot of good dangerous hiking trails?

Jonathan H

Planning on going backpacking in summer 12', im looking for some long dangerous (and of course beautiful) trails. Im not looking for a frozen wasteland or getting lost in a desert, just the kind of place where you really have to watch what your doing on the side of a mountain while taking in the views. Im also trying to avoid heavily visited tourist areas such as the Grand Canyon. Keeping this in the west coast/ rocky mountain area

Answer
Good morning Jonathan H.

I hope you are having a great day. I am very happy, because we finished the last of our Christmas gifts. Each year we can and dry fruits and vegetables from our trees and garden. Each friend and relative receives a big basket filled with quart jars of peaches, plums, strawberry Guavas, pickles, pickled green cherry tomatoes, jams, and dried and fresh fruits.

I have been a camper and hiker my whole life. I love the outdoors. I know almost every great nature place for hiking, camping, and fishing in the state of California. I usually do not tell because too many people. But I will give you one of my favorite because the area is so vast. You can branch out and learn others from here.

California has the second highest mountain in the United States within the Mighty High Sierra Nevadaâs Mountain Range. The crystal clear lakes are full of wild Golden Trout which are only found in Californiaâs high mountain ranges. You will marvel while you backpack with 3000 year old, born before Christ, redwood trees in which not even fire can destroy. I call all these things/places, âGodâs beautyâ. You must see the biggest and maybe the oldest living tree on earth and you will never forget âGeneral Shermanâ.

At night you can lie in your sleeping bag and count shooting stars. Your mind can run amok with the wonders and vastness of space. You can point out and view constellations which until now were part of chapters in a school text book. You can fall asleep viewing the heavens and our own Milky Way.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Nevada_(U.S.)

Head up US395 and park your car in Onion Valley. Start off your trip by hiking over Kearsarge Pass, which is an old Indian trail, to Bull Frog at 10,000 feet with snowcapped peaks reaching over 14000 feet as a backdrop. The Indians are no more and very few people see this type of beauty.

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=yfp-t-701-s&va=sierra+nevada+mountains+california

Kearsarge pass will usually not open until after Easter. The snow can reach fifteen (15) feet deep in the winter. The website below follows the path with pictures and words. Physically I hope you are in good shape. Read left side of website as well. I usually hike this four (4) mile trail once a year. I try to time my trip with the coming of a shooting star event. As you can see from the website, there are hundreds of lakes. I have fished almost all of these lakes. This is my day only hike. I hike in and fly fish for dinner. I camp out and head back in a day or two. I spend my time hiking between lakes in this area.

http://www.naturalbornhikers.com/KearsargePass/KearsargePass.htm

For longer trips, Kearsarge pass will lead you into the John Muir wildlife trail. It does get cold at night. You will need a good sleeping bag. The John Muir Wilderness trail runs 211 miles throughout the Sierras. You will have to check website for partial distances. I have hiked the total John Muir Trail twice. In high school, we spent all summer in the Mighty Sierras. We lived off the land. Click on âThe Trailâ for images of the trail on website below.

http://johnmuirtrail.org/

Jonathan H., you can start this trip from Yosemite Valley. Yosemite Valley is on the western side of the Mighty Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The John Muir Trail is almost flat and very easy going for ten (10) miles outside Yosemite Valley. You will be hiking along with city folks, their kids, and tour guides. I have given you a starting point with very few people and no kids.

The wilderness can get dangerous. Stay on clearly marked trails or go with another person. You may see a few people or a mule pack, but all in all the experience and the lakes will just be you. Use your head. Stay safe.

You and your family have a beautiful week. Peace, from Los Angeles.

Exactly what is wrong with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?

best backpacks for kids today show image

mayj123

i saw it today and personally didn't find it nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. besides a few crude jokes, i really didn't see what was wrong with it.

Answer
i really enjoyed watching it...
but the problem with the midea is that there was a lot of
plot holes

such as:

1. In "Transformers," there was this giant battle in the middle of downtown Los Angeles -- excuse me, Mission City -- that was witnessed by thousands of people at the very least. But somehow the government was able to cover up the whole thing, and now the existence of alien robots is just an internet rumor? How did they do it? Pay off everyone who was there and quickly fix millions of dollars in damage? Also, didn't Keller (Jon Voight) go on TV and tell everyone we were being attacked by "a technological civilization far superior to our own"? How did they spin that?

2. There are two pieces of the Allspark cube left: the military has one under lock and key, and Sam discovers another. The Decepticons steal one and bring Megatron back to life. But when Sam (Shia LaBeouf) wants to bring back Optimus, he has to find the Matrix of Leadership on the other side of the globe. Why not use the other piece? Mikaela (Megan Fox) has it in her backpack the whole time. It brought his kitchen appliances to life, why can't it do the same for Optimus?

3. Speaking of Megatron's rebirth, when the Decepticons venture deep into the ocean to revive him, the Navy crew tracking them reads five contacts. When they get down there, they tear apart one of the robots for parts to rebuild Megatron. Then as they rise to the surface, the same Navy guys say they spot six contacts. The little "Doctor" robot popped out down there, but he's about a third of the size of a person. Would he have shown up on sonar?

4. That reminds me: even if I were to forgive the Doctor's German accent -- and director Michael Bay is asking me to forgive a lot of ridiculous accents -- why would a robot need glasses? He has little lenses that flip in front of his mechanical eyes. Couldn't he just get his eyes adjusted? You'd think with all the laser guns, someone could perform a Lasik procedure.

5. Apparently, Transformers can look like people now. How? And how is it that even though the robo-girl (Isabel Lucas) is made of metal, she can still straddle Sam without crushing him. And if Bumblebee knows something's wrong with her, why does he spit antifreeze at her instead of telling Sam? Yes, his voicebox is broken, but wasn't it fixed at the end of the last movie?

6. The Fallen is the last of the Primes, since they all sacrificed themselves to stop him from destroying the sun. But then he says that Optimus is a descendant of the Primes. First, Transformers have kids? And second, how could he descend from them if they were all dead? And if the Fallen could only be destroyed by a Prime, why didn't the originals just gang up on him back in the day? And what makes Optimus so special, anyway? Megatron beat him earlier, but all it takes is a few spare parts from creaky old Jetfire for him to take out the Fallen?

7. Sam, Mikaela, and Simmons (John Turturro) go to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. to find Jetfire. Then they walk out the back onto a wide open field with old planes and mountains in the distance. When did the National Mall start to look so much like to Tucson, AZ (where they really filmed that scene)?

8. The geography is just as bad when they go to Egypt. The stone city of Petra in Jordan is over 250 miles away, over mountainous terrain, with few paved roads and the Israeli border between them, so how can they drive from one to the other in a couple of hours. And the Pyramids are said to be shooting distance from the Mediterranean, but they are actually well over 80 miles inland. Even if the Navy ship had a secret rail gun, and even if the captain would take an order to fire from a former agent of a government branch that no longer exists (over a walkie-talkie that inexplicably starts working again), how could it hit a moving target from that distance?

9. Sam briefly dies and goes to Robot Heaven. Robot Heaven?!?!

10. Where does Sam's bandage come from? What about his extra sock? Why does Sam's roommate not contribute anything at all? What was the Fallen doing for those thousands of years Megatron was frozen in ice? How does one satellite receive transmissions from everywhere on the planet? Why does Wheelie hump Mikaela's leg? Why do we have to see John Turturro's thong? Why are robots who join together to become Devastator also seen fighting the Army at the same time? Why does the government want only our military fighting Decepticons when our weapons seem unable to make so much as a dent on any of them? Why did the ancient Egyptians build a pyramid around the sun-destroying machines instead of just breaking it? Why is the Matrix of Leadership bigger in the Fallen's hand than in Sam's? And how do Mikaela's pants stay so clean?

Do you think kids today have generally less respect for adults then say a generation ago?

Carl d

It seems kids today are lippy, rebellious and generally disrespectful as well as being incredibly ungrateful, what do you think?

Answer
I think thats not true... But if it is, it's because adults have no respect for kids and teenagers...

As a kid I remember being refused service at corner stores for no other reason than I was a kid, and I remember people budging infront of me in line and I had been taught to be polite so I never said anything, and I remember taking my hard earned allowance as a young kid ($5 a month for doing dishes twice a week) to the store to buy a pack of skittles and the store clerk would give me less money than she should have... I also remember being picked on and humiliated infront of the entire class by my 4th grade teacher, if I didnt understand an assignment or a question or a book we were reading she would stop the whole class, and would ask the class if there was anyone who could answer my question because I wasnt smart enough to understand a simple assignemnt...

Then I became a teenager, and I remember one day I was sitting on a bench several stores down and around a corner from the liquor store in the middle of the day and being harassed and threatened by the police, being sworn at and told they were going to get me and I hadn't done a thing wrong... Another thing police do is stop any teenager wearing a backpack or a big purse and search it, where I live it is against the law for a cop to search your bags without your permission, and one time a cop wanted to search my purse, I had nothing illegal in it but I didnt want him to search it so I said no because it's an invasion of privacy, he ripped my purse from my hand and started to search it...

The teachers at school swear at us and favour some students over others, they refuse to accept assignments from some students and "accidently lose" some students assignments regularly while others never get theirs lost, then give the student 0...

Parents give bad examples by yelling at eachother and their children, by hitting eachother, swearing, making threats and ignoring "bad behavoir"... Parents also say really mean rude things, I remember being told by my mom she wished she never had me, and I ruined her life, and she wished she had an abortion, or she wished she killed me when I was a baby...

When I went to church, several small group leaders (who were all over 30yrs old) refused to allow my friend and I in their group or kicked us out within the first week of letting us join because we are A.D.D. (attention deficit disorder) and have difficulty concentrating and sitting for the entire hour...

I have absolutely no respect for adults until they have earned it... Most people see this as a one sided thing, but thats not how it is, the only people I openly have no respect for is the police, I give them the middle finger, I yell at them "FCUK THE POLICE" and if they stop me I say to whoever I'm with "do you smell bacon? ...NASTY"... But every other adult I am polite to until I have a reason not to be, but I still dont respect them, I just give them the opertunity to give me a reason to show them respect...

Just list the definition?
Scene -
Indie -
Chav -
Plastic -
Emo -
Goth -
Hardcore -

Maybe add some pictures for them to see how the people look different?

Answer
Scene - "Scenesters" Are teenagers that are on the scene. They are THERE at every concert, convention etc. They get their fashion from "emo" kids but splatter in their own colors and whatnot. Scene is truly about being unique, but in modern day, it's turned into a stereotype where everyone looks the same. =_="
Pic: http://www.thisishowyoudoit.com/how-to-be-scene-girls-boys-fashion/

Indie - Border far from mainstream. They like listening to unpopular bands and hate popular music to the grave. They dress very casually, plain t shirt and jeans with converse. They dislike emos for stealing their fashion, i.e converse and clothes but turning it darker and more graphic
For pic, scroll down to the girl in front of the red wall with a large bag.

Chav - Boys who are kind of gangster wannabes, with those DC like hats, fake bling, coats resembling a giant track suit and stupid words that resemble cuss words.
The girls are stereotyped as pregnant teens with many piercings on the ear, tight ponytails, etc.
Pic: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/744508-post50.html

Plastic - Oh you know them, those horrible popular girls that have tight cliques at your school. They wear cakes of make up and started dating in elementary school.
Their facebook page will mainly consist of:
"Omg, I look soooo ugly in this photo!"
"Oh no you dont (__insert stupid nickname__) You look sooo pretty!
"No I don't! You are sooo much prettier!"
"No you're prettier!"
"No you're prettier, (__insert untrue compliment here__)
"See?! You're sooo nice! You're sooo much prettier!"
etc. It goes on. It'll never stop. Not even on the apocolypse.
Pic is from nintendo game for "The Clique" based off of the series about a bunch of plastic girls and thier drama.
Pic: http://momstart.com/2009/08/nintendo-ds-game-the-clique-diss-and-make-up-giveaway/

Emo - Teens that are deeply interwined with their emotions. They express their emotions through writing, poetry, art and music. They generally dress in skin tight jeans in dark or bright neon colors, will wear generally darker shades of band tees. Chains, piercings and arm socks are also undeniable. They "tease" their hair, so it is big and volumized. They may dye it jet black or platinum blonde with a streak of another color. They are not always depressed and sad, but being emotionally in depth it sometimes seems that way.
Pic: http://www.layoutsparks.com/1/109400/emo-guy-dance-sing.html

Goth - People that give no crap about popularity in society. They aren't afraid of anything really, they dress in a darker style, sometimes resembling the Victorian style with the black lacy corsets and skirts, garters, platforms. They usually have dark heavy make up.
From as extravagant as this :

To more subtle:

Hardcore - People who go against mainstream very deliberately. They listen to hardcore music, metal? converse, jeans and a crew cut, i think. :P

How many teens are into alcohol/sex/drugs?

Rawrnold

I'm asking out of curiosity. Sometimes i feel like the only straightedge person out there.

How many of your friends/peers are into all that stuff?

Answer
HEY. Wow, I'm honestly REALLY glad you asked this question because I feel like I'm the only straight edge most of the time too. :/ Almost all of my friends have tried stuff like drugs and alcohol. Most of them don't do it regularly, but if the temptation's strong enough...
I though have never tried any of it and never will. At my high school we have a Peer Counseling class at school and I wrote up some reasons why I don't do drugs or alcohol, or have sex. Here they are. Its pretty long but yeah. I'd love to hear from you and see your reasons!
Excellent question!

WHY I CHOOSE A STRAIGHT EDGE LIFE.

1.I have a new baby cousin that I love dearllyyy. It would really kill me to see him dabble with drugs or alcohol, and I seriously would effing beat the crap out of anyone who led him on that path. Iâm sure someone feels that way about me, so I refrain.
2.This reasonâs kind of arrogant but itâs the truth⦠itâs pretty effing awesome to be able to say that a drop of alcohol has never entered my body nor has any other illegal substance. Not many other American highschoolers can say theyâve never done drugs or tried alcohol, but I say it with pride :]
3.People spend gazillions of dollars and intense amounts of time all through out a studentâs schooling preparing them for bad ass high school experience where a bunch of d bags are pressuring them to smoke or something to that extent. I want those people to know someone listened. It was worth their while, and they DID make a difference.
4.A little bit of me dies every time I find out someone I respect, like, or admire smokes or drinks heavily [sometimes even mildly]. Seriously. Iâm not just re-quoting a keychain or facebook group, I promise. I remember freshmen year when I slowly, slowly found out nearly EVERYONE smoked/drank. Nearly EVERY senior did it, and I looked up to them the most. Sometime in the beginning of freshmen year i found a group called Girls for a Change and stuff did change. There I met a group of seniors who didnât booze and puff and it was effing crazy. Now, theyâre in college and Iâm not quite sure what theyâre up to, maybe I donât want to know, but it matters that they were there my freshmen year and made a phenomenal impact on my views today. One girls was the 05-06 Peer Counseling president. Prettyyyyyy bitchin!
5.My main âanti drugâ is my family. Hereâs the first reason: If the average person does indeed live to be about 75, then my mom has about 33 years left and my dad has about 26 years left. I really donât want to make them have to deal with thoughts of âwhere did I go wrong!â âwhat the f is wrong with my kid!â etc. I think itâs just easier that I stay away.
As for the second reason- itâs kind of an inferiority complex. My dadâs older brother has 3 kids. They all went to my HS back in the day too. The oldest is a boy who went to Yale and then grad school at Harvard. The middle daughter went to UC Berkley and then Columbia. The youngest went to Boston University and then Harvard. My dad had 2 kids, his eldest son, my big brother, went to San Jose State University, and Iâm still in high school. Heâs never mentioned it and he probably never will, but Iâm sure its pretty humiliating. I think the least I can do is NOT make his life worse by starting new illegal extra curricularsâ¦
6.Finally, I really really donât want to die anytime soon. I want to see my 4 kids that I may have when I'm older and meet their kids! And maybe even my kidâs kidâs kids! I definitely view cigs and booze as catalysts of death, and thus I keep my distance.

I am starting school and i wanna fit in.Please no blogs, stores, or saying start a new one.
If possible add what backpack to get, shoes, and accessories
If backpacks are not in then totes

Answer
Hi, these are suggestions from my kind of style, so I don't know for sure if you'd like them, but I highly recommend them! By the way, to save money, try going to a thrift store before going to those high end stores, you'll never know what you might find! There are a lot cute clothes if you dig deep enough. As in shoes, accessories, bags, clothes, etc. But before you go to one, go to google, type in your city & then type in thrift store, and read reviews on thrift stores in your area so you can find a good one!
-Floral
-Lace
-Tribal
-Crop tops
-Stripes
-Button-ups
-Grandpa sweaters
-Blazers
-Cardigans
-Denim vests/jackets
-Harem pants are making a comeback, so check those out.
-Skinnies will always be in
-Distressed jeans
-Pencil skirts
-High-waisted bottoms. (as in shorts, skirts, etc.)
-Tights (polka dot, striped, patterned)with shorts
-Combat boots
-Oxfords
-Cowgirl boots
-Mary Janes
-Moccasins
-Canvas shoes
Honestly, if you want, get TOMS, but in my opinion, they're much too out there now, lol.
For accessories,
-Feather earrings
-Dream catcher necklaces
-Necklaces with charms
-A bunch of rings
-Braided belts
-Leather belts
-Big earrings
-A white watch
-Leather bags. (satchel, messenger, etc)
-Scarves that look like carpets, haha.
As for backpacks, get a white Jansport backpack (:
Don't worry about it getting dirty, because either way, it looks great.
I know you're not asking for any, but here are some hairstyles!
-A messy bun
-Braided bangs
-Twisted bangs clipped aside with a bobby pin.
-Fishtail
-Waterfall braid
-Waved hair (French braid two sides of your head with damp hair before you go to sleep, wake up, poof! Waves, haha)
Well, good luck this school year! (:

How do I become a Zuca bag affiliate?

school bags with wheels image

Lady F

I love zuca bags. You can sit on them, they're like a portable locker, they have big wheels and can roll super fast, and I can fit about my whole school life in it. They're strong, they're perfect.

I often have people at my college ask about where to buy them, people who actually do have money (these things are expensive)

Do you know where/how I can become an affiliate? I would ABSOLUTELY love to become an affiliate and make some money off of this.

Thank you!

Answer
You need to become an Authorized Retailer. Please call the Marketing Department at (408) 377.9822 for possible opportunities in your area.

Thank you for your enthusiasm for the ZÃCA product line !

Goody bag ideas for a race-car themed birthday party?

ShareKnowl

I have boys and girls attending the party. Age range 2-12. Need ideas for cheap goody bags. Preferably a single item. No candies . Thanks a bunch.

Answer
I would get car themed coloring books/pages and print off internet to put in bag with crayola crayons usually .25 or 50 cents in back to school sales.

Why do goody bags? We never did.

Why not do a take home art project of make a car from boxes (free at grocery store), Cut cardboard wheels out, color with crayon or paint. Let them do a Fred Flintstone race by standing in their box, holding it up in the air and running. Cheap and entertaining and more memorable souvenir than a cheap goody bag. duct tape straps over the shoulder can help hold car up for small kids...

What do you think about the kid in Tucson, AZ who is being sent back to Mexico for having pot in his bag?

GENE

He was at his Jr high school and had two joints in his backpack. After authorities were notified the boy and his entire family are being sent back to Mexico because they were in this country illegally.

Some are happy to be rid of the illegals, but this seems like severe treatment and all the family must now be deported. I don't really know how to feel about this. Were the people generally law abiding? Were the parents employed and eligible for legal status? What are your thoughts and feelings?
The kid, and possibly his siblings, could be U.S. citizens.

Answer
Just to let you know, there are some people with brain cells that actually can connect a thought or two here :)

There are lots of cases lately like this that have led to rapid deportation. Usually what hits the news is parents in trouble, not kids.

And what makes those cases heartbreaking is sometimes one or more members of the family ARE US citizens. Either they split up, and the kids are left alone in the US, or the cids are sent to a place they never knew for reasons they had nothing to do with.

This is an extremely active and evolving area of law and policy in the US.

Q. give my avatar a past, present and future......
what does it mean to be willowy exactly?

Answer
OK here goes - don't get mad now. You did ask for it.

Past - Totally pink bedroom. 250 stuffed animals on the bed. Each one had an adorable name and you made your father kiss each one of them good night every night (after reading Cinderella five times!) so you could avoid going to sleep. A precocious child, you used to wear your favorite Disney Princess costumes to pre school. Carried a Barbie lunchbox to first grade and by third grade graduated to Bratz. HUGE Full House fan. Wanted to be just like DJ when you grew up. Knew all the words to the score of Pocahontas. Sang Colors of the Wind at your Elementary School Graduation. Your mother cried.

Present - Redecorated your bedroom - now 60's retro with shag carpeting and the essential lava lamp and bead curtain on the door. Threw hissies every night for a month until you got your own phone and computer hookup in your bedroom. And then you talked the folks into the cell phone - properly bling covered just like Paris's. Middle school Princess O Prep. Never go anywhere without at least one Lisi Harrison book in your backpack. Know all the disses by heart and use them liberally to the amusement of your own clique. Madly in love with this kid in your Social Studies class who looks just like Zac Efron. He is like so hot! Favorite stores- The Gap and Old Navy. Your mother named you Claire after the Molly Ringwald character in The Breakfast Club - her absolute favorite movie ever. Thinking about getting a tongue piercing. They look so cool. Spent the summer on this boring vacation with your parents in Disneyworld listening to your two younger sibs fight. When you come home, you are heartbroken to learn that the guy in your Social Studies class has moved to California with his parents. Your grades suffer severely due to the depression.

Future - After college, you move to New York and pursue a career in the fashion industry - landing your dream job as Calvin Klein's personal assistant. What the job entails is going to Starbucks twice a day to get Calvin a double mocha latte - skim milk with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a blueberry muffin. He only eats the tops. You feed the bottoms to the pigeons in Central Park on your way home to your fabulous studio apartment after work. You become his muse and his 2012 collection is called The Claire Look. Pretty in Pink. At Fashion Week, you happen to run into the real Zac Efron who is now working as a house painter in upstate NY (all former child stars end up as house painters). You fall madly in love and move to a little town just outside Buffalo. Your first winter there, it snows 17 feet and you lose Zac when he slips off a ladder while clearing snow off the roof and dies in the resulting avalanche. Luckily he is insured. You buy a brand new Ford Edge (Blazing Copper - just like Derek Jeter's) and move to Florida where you get a job playing Sleeping Beauty at Disneyworld. You end up married to the guy named Howard Astaire who plays Captain Hook. Your name is now Claire Astaire and you have two kids - twin boys you name Chip and Dale.

That should about cover it. Enjoy your new life. Pax - C

Will I get in Appalachian State University?

sarah

Sorry if this may be kind of long but anyway. So I started high school at the local public high school. I got all As my freshman year, did varsity cross country, varsity track and varsity soccer. Sophomore year I got all As with two B's. One B in math and one B in Spanish. I did Varsity cross country, varsity track, varsity soccer and travel soccer outside of school. I was also inducted into the beat club. For my junior year my parents felt the public high school was too easy and wasn't challenging me enough. So for my junior year I'm attending the local private prep school. My parents had me tested half way through this year (my junior year) and found out I have dyslexia and dyscalculus (meaning my mind can't do math high then algebra 1). Which it wasn't a big shocker or anything, we kind of figured. My junior year has been kind of a struggle. With trying to do Allegra 2, chemistry with all the math in it, being the new kid again, and going to a very difficult prep school where most of the kids IQs are 150. The school year isn't over yet but so far i have one high A in photography, and all very low Bs in everything else. Meaning it's about an 80 or 79.7 in the rest of my classes. I'm currently doing online math so i can go at my own pace and i have a tutor for chemistry that I see at least three times a week. But it's still a struggle to understand things. I've only taken the SAT once and I didn't really study much and I got a 1310. I took the ACT recently but I haven't gotten my scores back yet. I did travel soccer outside of school this year, I'm on the school sailing team, I'm on the varsity soccer team and co-captain, and I plan to do cross country my senior year along with varsity soccer. This year has just been very difficult for me and my school obviously is a lot harder then most other schools. But I went to a private catholic school my whole life before i started high school. I also do a summer camp that's not like most camps. It's called adventure treks and it's a outdoor leadership camp for teens my age. Where we go backpacking, raft, rock climb, kayak, climb mountains while learning skills and leadership skills. I really want to go to App state. I visited and I feel like it'd fit me great. Do you think I have a chance of getting in?

Notes: I live out of state in Georgia
I'm currently a junior in high school

Answer
Maybe, maybe not. My nephew was in kind of the same situation, he didn't get in at first and he went to community college and then got in for his junior year - he's there now. Transfer is more flexible on grades.

You should know that any change of school like that, right in the middle of your time in high school can be quite jarring, and it's usually not a wise idea to do that because grades suffer. It's hard on teens to make switches like that, and while your parents had your best interests at heart, getting good grades is a sign that things are good, not that they are too easy, so I don't agree with what they did People often don't realize that sometimes the best thing is to stay.

All I can say is that you might want to consider taking time to work on your academics this summer, and make a strong showing your senior year. Hopefully you'll have grades to show when you apply that can counteract your junior year. It's a shame because junior year tends to be the more important year, coming down to the finish line so to speak. App is one of the top Southern schools, and it's competitive - you may have a harder time getting in as a freshman but as my nephew has proven, it can be done later.

You should go to their site and review - here's part of it, this is what the last incoming class looked like grade-wise - and check the links below on freshmen students and transfer students criteria.
2012 Freshman Class Profile
Average weighted GPA of 3.99
Average SAT of 1153 (combination of math & verbal)
Average ACT of 26 composite
88% in state
12% out of state

How Do I Get My Bad Bus Driver Fired?

I have a really bad bus driver at my school. He will swear at us and sometimes he looks drunk. He almost crashed into a tree and almost hits pedestrians. One time food was falling out of a kindergardeners backpack so he threw the kids backpack away. Everyone on our bus complains to our teachers, and our parents. The teachers always say "That's how rumors will get started so stop lying and starting rumors". The parents will always say that we are probably bad on the bus and that we deserve it. We can't do anything! Nothing works! One time he even said "SHUT THE HELL UP ANDSIT DOWN NOW YOU B*****! That just scared me! PLEASE HELP US WE NEED THIS BUS DRIVER GONE!

Answer
first off, debris on the floor (such as food from backpacks) is very hazardous since it could roll to the front of the bus and get stuck under the brake pedal causing an accident. second, I have believe it or not I was in school once and rode a bus to school, kids on a bus can be very rude and very distracting for the driver. it is a bus drivers duty to do what he/she has to in order to make sure that kids get to and from school safely. as far as almost hitting a tree, he could have been distracted by rude kids or maybe you are just saying that to try and get sympathy from people. don't interfere if you have no knowledge in what it takes.

Do you buy your kids new backpacks each school year?

cheetos

So my kids get new backpacks each year, but i did notice some of their classmates have the same old backpacks. I know things are tuff for some parents but there are good deals out there you just have to shop around. So whats your opinion new backpacks or reuse?

Answer
My son gets a new backpack every year. He just started 3rd grade. Every year he wants something different. Star Wars, Transformers, etc. Last year he insisted on getting a Pittsburgh Pirates one. This year it's just a plain grey and black with the across the chest type strap from Five Below. Once he gets older (into high school) I will buy him a more expensive one that lasts hopefully 2-3 years. If a new $10 backpack makes him happy every year, I have no problem buying it.

There is nothing wrong with reusing one, regardless of your financial state. I just prefer to buy a new one every year.

Is there something quirky about your parents that you love?

How about something you don't like about them?

I was watching the Wizard of Oz, and I texted him, "We thank you very sweetly" and he responded with, "For killing her so neatly." It cracks me up that he knew that. I love him so much.

Something quirky about my mom: She makes up weird words. Sometimes it can get annoying.

Answer
Oh god this would take me DAYS to finish answering lol.

My dad enjoys embarrassing me. He seriously does, I'm not making it up (he even told me). He would stand in the middle of the street and start dancing, or when my friends come over if they ask for water he would be like (to me), "but I thought you said ALL of your friends drink alcohol?". He also enjoys naming squirrels in our backyard, and the names are all food-related. He would hold up a nut and be like "here, Bacon! Here boy!" and then get

Q. all i have at my house is a thigh builder but that is only for girls. i go jogging on my spare time but i want to have more muscle and strenth in my legs so i could be stronger in my sophmore year in wrestling. so tell me.

Answer
My son was a state high school wrestling champion, so I've taken an interest in your question. You are right that strong legs are important to wrestling.

Lunges are good for strengthening legs and simulate body movement when doing take-downs, so they are very good movement for wrestlers. I recommend several types of lunges:
Regular: http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/DBLunge.html
Rear: http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/DBRearLunge.html
Side: http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/DBSideLunge.html

Hold something heavy to increase the difficulty as you get stronger or you won't continue to improve.

Most people associate leg strength with the quads (front of legs). But the back of the legs, known as the hamstrings or leg biceps are even more important for sports, as well as the butt, and low back.

If you do lunges in the different ways shown in the videos you will work the quads and hamstrings and butt.

To hit the low back muscles and give the butt and hamstrings some extra work do back extensions. They can be done on a picnic bench or table with a partner holding your legs.
http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/ErectorSpinae/BBBackExtension.html

Here is a good general exercise link if you don't have access to a gym. http://www.weighttrainersunited.com/getinshape.html

Try to get a heavy bag or two of sand. You can lift it to practice wrestling moves. If you lift it in different ways and carry it, it is a great strength builder and conditioner.

Find an old canvas bag, put a plastic garbage bag inside and fill it with sand. Keep adding sand as you get stronger. Start with 50lb, then increase to 70lb, then 100 lb+

Here are some ideas on using them:

My poem The life of a trucker and his family ( tribute to my Daddy)" Thoughts?

Q. This is a poem that I wrote for My Daddy. Its going to be something I gove to him for fathers day. Opinions needed.

He walks out the door with his bag in hand, saying I love
you be back as soon as I can.
He gets in the truck and shuts the door, Smiling as he
blows that loud horn.
I hear the roar of the diesel engine, and I know this trip
is just begining.
I hear the loud hiss of air as he gets ready to pull out, I
know he didnt rest and he is still wore out.
I run to the truck to steal another hug not wanting to
leave it to fate, Because you never know when it will
be to late.

As the truck leaves I sit and stare, I pray for him to stay
aware.
Its something Im used to and have grown up with,
But every time he leaves I go stiff.
He does what he knows to do, But he doesnt really have
a clue.
I dont think he see's what it does to us, He doesnt think
we can see the weariness.
But he was born the son of a trucker who passed it on down
the line, Daddy always said tuckers were our kind.
He raised me in that ole red pete until I was old enough for
school, there for a few years I thought it was cool.
Until I got old enough to see the time it took away, And was
able to finally understand the dangers he faced every day.
Not near enough respect is given to the cowboys of the
road, And most don't care about their heavy loads.
people dont see that they are away from home, Their days filled
with diesel and chrome.
People don't care that in order to buy from a store the trucker
will miss alot of his childs life, and that 9 times out of 10 loose
his wife.
Canceled fishing trips a alot of broken promises is all the child
has to hold, But when he has time for her she learns to cherish
those moments for they are a precious a gold.
So for those who are not luckey enough to know a trucker and
you find yourself behind or in front of one, Just remember its not
a race to be won.
Make his day by being cautious and safe so they can finish the trip
and make it home to see the ones that he loves, who can fully appriciate
all the he does.
This is for the truck drivers out there, This is just to let
you know some still care.
Also for my daddy a hell of a man, One of the best who will keep those big
wheels rolling as long as he can.

can i exchange something i bought from a duty free shop?

belle

my dad just came back from London and whilst he was traveling he bought me and incredible bag which i adore however i would love to use it for school as i have used my mothers a couple of times for school and i really like using it as a school bag, but he got one which is a bit too bright as a colour for school and whilst i adore it anyway i think i would use it more if i maybe traded it in for a different colour. i have spoken to my dad and he was totally fine with me maybe trading it in for a different colour. but is there any way in which i can trade it in? he probably has the receipt but it was from a duty free store in dubai. my mum said that i may be able to trade it in to like a david jones (also i live in sydney) or something but im not sure without a receipt...

thankyou loads, and im sorry if i sound ungrateful or anything, i sound really spoilt but its just that it was so expensive and i feel bad if i didnt use it much...

Answer
You can only ask.

David Jones would be unlikely to play unless youre going to lie and say you did buy it there - do they have the same one exactly in stock?

Perhaps a smaller shop would be inclined to work with you.

BUT

Heres a tip from when I was a kid,

I won a cassette walkman (wow, how old am I) at my school, the walkman wasnt quite what I wanted so I took it into a store that had them and told a story that Id bought it but now wanted to change it for something else.

The shop attendant asked me to wait while I stood innocently at the counter and after a few minutes the manger came out and asked me to come into office which I dutifully did, a few more minutes and the police turned up.

Turned out three of that model had been stolen from their other store weeks before.

All got sorted in end but I could have made it go a lot smoother with the truth from the first minute or just keeping the damn thing :)

At what age are girls to old to play with dolls/toys?

school bags for 8 year old boys image

I heard somewhere on TV that stated "Girls from age 8-14 are too old for dolls, but to young for boys. Meaning they are too young to have a boyfriend. But I never thought at age 8 when your too old for toys. I seen people who are over the age of 20 and they still like playing with dolls. For example when I was in high school, there was a 16 year old girl in my class who has a Dora the Explorer book-bag, And even a Dora Doll that talks and sing.

Answer
I stopped playing with mine at 11 after I finished primary school. I always thought 'I can't go into high school still acting like a baby, no one else would'.

But I never really wanted to stop playing with them, I loved all my dolls so much, every now and then I'd set up my Polly Pocket sets and just look at them, never play, then just pack them away.

Then when I was about 13, I went to a carboot sale with my mum and when my Barbies car got sold I was heartbroken, I still wanted it.

I do wish I could still play with my dolls and not feel embarrassed about it (I'm 16), but it'll never happen again.

And as for others, I think girls are growing up too fast and acting older than they are, which unfortunately means they stop playing with their dolls and other toys far too soon.

But I think the mimimum age they should stop is about 13, and if they still feel they can and want to play with their dolls and toys then good for them.

Do you have any tips for sophomore year?

Do you have any tips for a 15 year old girl going into sophomore year?

What should I dress up as for my school dance?

school bag 1960 image

Nirvana Sn

the theme is time machine so i can either dress up as past, present, or future. i'm definitely not doing present, and wont' do future unless i get a really good idea.
what i'm interested in is the past, but i can't really decide what to do.
i have dark brown-black hair and i'm tan. i either want to do the 1920's, 1960's, or 1990's. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer
Well, before deciding on a definite era, I'd hit thrift stores and consignment stores to find stuff that could fit in one of your categories. I'd nix the 90's, personally, because it's still pretty fresh. Flapper style is really fun to do, and so is 60's style. I'd do a lot of research; Costumer's Manifesto (costumes.org) is a good place to start for research; they offer links for just research, for buying, and for making.

Just remember: it doesn't have to be expensive. Thrift stores and consignments are your best friends, and your friends' closets are pinky-swear-secret-best-friends-club friends. Don't be afraid to do a little modification, and keep an eye out for things that are aaaaalmost like a picture you saw. If you want to, print out a few different pictures of the typical fashions of the era to bring to the store.

Oh yeah, and don't forget accessories and hair styles. If you have long hair, keep in mind that you'll have to pin it up or get a wig if you're going for the flapper look, but it will be perfect for the 60's look. Likewise, a cute little flat, pinned-on hat or a tight-fitting cloche say 20's like nothing else can. You can actually find decently priced authentic antique or high quality reproduction hats at antique stores (I found a velvet flat cap for about 8 dollars). Keep in mind the mindset of the culture, too; for instance, don't wear leather sandals if you're a vegan hippie.

First and foremost, DON'T BUY IT FROM A COSTUME SHOP. Just don't. Wigs, shoes, bracelets, fine, but avoid the costume-in-a-bag deals. A carefully assembled costume is usually cheaper AND better looking AND more durable than anything you'll buy from Party City, and you may rewear some of the pieces just as everyday wear.

If you need any more help, feel free to contact me.

What is your view on many Liberals now comparing Obama to Abraham Lincoln?

is this some kind of joke?

Answer
A really sick joke if you consider the dems racist history:

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/jimcrow/stories_org_kkk.html: âThe Klan quickly became a terrorist organization in service of the Democratic Party and white supremacy. Between 1869 and 1871 its goal was to destroy Congressional Reconstruction by murdering blacks -- and some whites -- who were either active in Republican politics or educating black children.â

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/wilson/portrait/wp_league.html: After [democrat] Wilson was elected in 1912 blacks were segregated or dismissed from federal positions including the Navy

6/11/12 npr.org:
-100 members of Congress from the South (96 Democrats and 4 Republicans), present a "Declaration of Constitutional Principles" that criticized the Supreme Court in its Brown v. Board of Education decision for desegregating schools and protested civil rights initiatives.
-âDuring this period, they [KKK] often forged alliances with Southern police departments, as in Birmingham, Alabama; or with governor's offices, as with George Wallace [democrat] of Alabama who, on his inauguration as governor of Alabama on January 14, 1963, proclaimed 'Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.'â wikipedia

Which party promoted the 1964 Civil Rights Act (outlawing discrimination against Blacks and women)? In the Senate, democrats 63%, Republicans 80%; in the House, Democrats 61%, Republicans 80%. Which party opposed the 1965 Civil Rights Act? In the Senate, democrats 27%, Republicans 6%; in the House, democrats 22%, Republicans 18%.

President Eisenhower (Republican, of course) sent federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas for the first time since Reconstruction to enforce federal court orders to desegregate public schools, and signed civil rights legislation in 1957 and in 1960 to protect the right to vote. He implemented desegregation of the armed forces.

For years Dem. Senator Robert Byrd was the "Grand Dragon" of the entire Mid-Atlantic states. (6/19/05 Washington Post). He filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He was the longest-serving senator in history and democrats chose him as their Senate leader many times. He died in-office two years ago: âVP Biden said today that with the passing of Sen. Robert Byrd the Senate lost a legend and he lost a dear friend and mentor.â 6/28/10 ABC News

The New Yorker: âTim Russert told me that, according to his sources, Bill Clinton, in an effort to secure an endorsement for Hillary from Ted Kennedy, said to Kennedy, âA few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.ââ http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/â¦

12/3/93 The Baltimore Sun: Jesse Jackson admits: "I hate to admit it, but I have reached a stage in my life that if I am walking down a dark street late at night and I see that the person behind me is white, I subconsciously feel relieved."

Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, champion of democrats:
"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." (As described in Linda Gordon's Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America . New York: Grossman Publishers, 1976).

In 1926, Sanger gave a lecture on birth control to the women's auxiliary of the Ku Klux Klan in Silver Lake, NJ. wikipedia.

This bags zippern has always been a little hard to open and closen because of the metal zipper. I really like this bag though, any ideas on how to fix this zipper? Picture below...

I'm no expert, but I would lower the handle part as low as possible, then enter the other side the same way as if I were starting my jacket zipper. Once I got it started, I would install a safety pin at the bottom to prevent the separation from happening again.

how to fix book bag zipper?

Joshua

I just bought a new book bag. When I zip it up the zipper wont close. How do I fix this.Oh and if it matters I start school 8/24/10.

Answer
If you just bought it return it for one that works properly. Fixing a zipper is tough and usually can only be done on higher quality/heavy duty zippers, which most likely isn't the case on a bookbag. We sell bookbags and often the zippers are defective or hard to close when they come from the factory, and they only get worse over time.

I'm not sure if you're going for a messenger bag, but if so, messenger bag, haha. If not, there's not a specific name for them but they are generally used while backpacking or long hiking trips. For these, they come in internal frame(being a bit smaller) or external frame (being a bit more cumbersome.) Here's a link of what I'm talking about.

They are listed under extended trip and weekend trip backpacks.

does wearing a backpack stop me from growing?

Vasil

I have wore a heavy backpack, like a couple pounds for 5 (or a couple more) days and i am 12 years old. Recently, i have been growing very fast and now i have this heavy backpack and i was just wondering if it stops me from growing that fast..

Answer
A couple of pounds or five pounds is a very light backpack. Wearing 50lbs won't stop you growing.
Growing is part of your makeup....it's what you are so be happy with the way things are going.
At ten I was normal height. At 12 I was taller than my Dad. At 14 I was over six feet and levelled off at 6'2" when I was 15.
I've worn backpacks since I was small and hiked for over forty years now. My three girls are all tall and they wore backpacks from as soon as they walk a few hundred yards.
To them it was like part of normal clothing for being outdoors because their Mum and Dad were out hiking with them and carrying them on child carriers from before they could walk, even in the Alps, child in front and rucksack at the back. We did the shopping with backpacks, took picnic stuff in backpacks, had backpacks with us almost everywhere, either big ones or small day packs.
