How to I make this bag less stiff?

Yesterday I bought a new school bag from a surf shop. It looked really cool and was pretty much the right size. When I got home I took it out to look at it and I noticed that it was really stiff. The inside tag says 100% polyester and the outside looks like fake leather. I want to know if anybody has any idea how to soften it up before school starts because it looks kind of stupid at the moment. Thanks in advance!

Answer
if i were you, i would use it outside of school for a little while, and that will stretch it out.

Wheres the best place to find school bags?

Eliza

So my daughter is going back to school soon and i need to know where can i get good school bags. Shes 13 and she wants a rucksack not a shoulder bag. In her school its a mix of what people have some have rucksacks and some have shoulder bags. Where can i get some good rucksacks? She doesn't want it childish obviously, just a simple pretty bag. (We live in the UK so any stores in the uk would be great thanks)

-Thanks in advance!

Answer
http://www.jatalo.com/shop

This isn't a store, it's online, but they have way cute rucksacks. And for every bag they sell, they donate a year's worth of textbooks to a child in need. books71 gets you 10% off.

How old is too old for a child to ride in a exercise stroller?

My son is eight and he is with me almost always. I need to exercise walk but he cannot go as far as I need to go or as fast. Is he too big to ride in a exercise stroller part of the way on our walks?
It would hurt my back to carry him. I am a 42 year old woman who is not strong enough to carry him on my back.

Answer
I'd say 8 is too old. My daughter will be two this summer and I have no problem having her and my almost 4 year old son in a double jog stroller when I run more than 2 miles. I just ran a half marathon and so I understand the lack of babysitters and the need for long training runs, however at 8 your son should be getting exercise of his own. My son is 3 and I have him ride his trike along while I run. If he's not used to doing it, it'll be a lot harder at first than if he's always gone with you. But 8 is an age when you can reason with him and say, "Mommy needs to get healthy in order to... I want you to be healthy with me."

Our family are big hikers: We follow the "a mile for every year starting at 2" rule: we believe it's reasonable to expect our kids to join us on hikes and that's part of our fun together. Last summer, my son climbed Sentinal Dome in Yosemite with us (daughter in a backpack carrier) and this summer we hope to do another similar hike. When hiking with kids, just remember to keep the terrain in mind - it shouldn't be someplace they could easily fall or where there's a lot of poison oak. Plan 2/3 of their max distance because kids never hike in a straight line - for example, a 3 mile loop for my son might be too much because of all the deer trails he explores along the way and all the running up to look at something ahead and running back to me it would be more like 4 or 5 miles for him. It does take longer to hike with kids, but you have great bonding time to talk and get to really explore the world around you. Make it about the journey, not the destination, my daughter loves to collect pinecones and my son loves to make tracks with sticks in the dirt. Geocaching also allows for discoveries along the way to make it more fun for them.

What is a good baby carrier / backpack to buy?

PF32

Ideally I would like something that will last a year of growth, not just a couple months.

Answer
REI Kids Only Piggyback

I'm normally a cheapskate (not a REI snob), but this pack is worth the extra money and then some.

I've carried my children from infancy through at least 3 to 4 years old in this thing.

I just had a "bonus baby" a couple months ago (my oldest started college last month). Thankfully, I kept the old Piggyback.

Despite the abuse from several previous children, the pack still in great shape and it will get used another 3-4 years (if my poor old body can stand it!).

What kind of backpacks are cool for junior high girls?

Am

My daughter is going into 7th grade. We will be going out looking for backpacks soon. ANy suggestions? DO junior highers use lunchboxes? Or is it cooler to just buy your lunch or what?

Answer
definitely not the roller suitcase type backpacks. even though they are better for the back its just not cool. majority of junior high kids buy their lunch at school in the cafeteria. a simple packback like jansport or something with a cute color that your kid likes would be good.

is establishing a food bank in a city feasible?

i want to know wat are the things we need for establishing a food bank to fight hunger.......
plz dont say we need "food " i want serious replies:)

Answer
Yes, establishing a food bank in a city is feasible. You need some space for office and warehouse, fridges, some vehicle, a telephone, a computer and internet access, a home page. All these can be obtained through donations. But you need lot of volunteers. You must gain from the knowledge and experience of how existing food banks operate. So read on>.....
A food bank is a place where food, both non-perishable goods and perishable goods like fresh produce, frozen items, and baker products, are offered to nonprofit agencies for distribution to people who may not be able to afford food. These agencies are typically non-profit organizations or run as part of a church or community outreach group. A food bank is like the wholesale arm of the food distribution system for those living in poverty. Other agencies are the retail arm and serve people directly. The term "food bank" is not protected by law, however, and is sometimes used by these agencies directly serving those in need of food.
Food banks often get the food from companies or supermarkets with unsaleable stock, and also from donations from the general public, especially around holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, the US Government and state governments often contract with food banks to distribute USDA surplus commodities. In addition, food banks who are members of America's Second Harvest, the nation's food bank network, are able to take advantage of relationships with major manufacturers. Instead of calling the more than 200 food banks across the country, a manufacturer with several semiloads of product to donate can make just one phone call.

What is a "10 pack" of highlights?

Rhiannon

I called a local beauty school to ask how much it would cost for highlights and a trim. The woman told me that a full color is $35, foil is $30, a cut is $9, and a 10 pack of highlights are $20.

She went on to list other highlight prices.
I have two questions;

(1.) What does she mean by a "10 pack"?
(2.) And are these decent prices? Or are they a little too much?

When did the modern backpack start becoming popular in school and in general?

school bags in the 70s image

DarkSerge5

I am curious about when the modern backpack really started becoming common in schools and among the general population. When I say "modern", I mean what we think of when we think of backpacks today--polyester/nylon/et cetera bags with multiple pockets, zippers, and the like.

Answer
About the time I started college in 1975, I saw students using backpacks in some instances. I couldn't give you an exact date but I would say they started becoming a popular way of toting books in the very late 60s and early 70s. They were a mix of canvas and nylon in those days.

What is a good outfit to wear in a fashion show?

Nco

I'm 16 and I'm going to be in a high school fashion show. I need to get two full outfits from any where I want. The school will reimburse me up to $150 I need to know what I should wear. Links are great. Thanks.

Answer
Summer-y:
bright colored (Neon and color blocking)
tribal print
neon tank
floral top
Lace/crochet tops and dresses
nautical shirts
crop tops for sure!!!
Flowy cardigans or lacey/ see through
flowy blouses,
Bodycon Skirts- Good with loose top
White or Khaki capris
White jeans
In detail:
sun dresses<-- Adorable to wear with a cardigan, statement jewelry, and sandals!

Lace/crochet tops, nautical tops (stripes, navy & white) These 2 are my favorite summer trends! Looks good with a statement piece (Long necklaces with a giant gemstone/pendant/design, owls, Feathers! Feather earrings! Gold studded bracelets! Multiple friendship bracelets<- Nordstrom has a lot)

Popular= crop tops/ Dolman tops! Pretty much anything flowy!

Cardigans (one flowy or lacey and another short sleeved sleeved one) You can get them at Forever 21, Macy's, etc. For plain ones you can get them at Nordstrom too!

Shoes:
Sandals: Gold- Steve madden! And now those tan, leather ones with many straps!
Flip-Flops: Striped, colorful, metallic- Havaianas Also try them with a bow/flower in the middle
TOMS- eco, and helps children in LDC's
Sperry- Cute!

Get shoes at:
A.M. Eagle
Urban outfitters
Dillardâs, Nordstrom, macyâs

Stop at Retail stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, or dillard's. I'm pretty sure Nordstrom has TOMS and all of them have havaianas, Steve Madden, and Sperry's and cute clothes!

Stop at stores that buy extra inventory from department stores like T.J. Maxx or Marshalls which also have designer names (Juicy, Guess, Steve Madden, Coach)

Common- Abercrombie, A&F, A.M. Eagle, VS PINK
For trendy stores try Forever21. and other favorite trendy stores of mine are:
Urban outfitters!!
Anthropologie!!!
Free People!!
Zara/ H&M/ Bebe
Vs Pink (This might be common)

Fall:
Haha! the Fall runways shows came out a few days ago but here is just the general gist of it:

70s fashion
Like the '50s and '60s coming back, so are the '70s! There are two main aesthetics: '70s bohemian, and '70s sophisticated glamour. This includes dresses that fall like shimmering water in the evening and high-waist pants with elegant blouses by day! High waisted wide-leg pants or flares, smartly belted in.Neat bow-blouses, especially ones with billowing or bishop sleeves. Particularly great are fabrics like silk and satin.Roll neck sweaters tucked into pants or skirts. Also layering over beaded necklaces or a vest!

Pleats- Popular in spring and also for fall! However, then pleats will be worn paired socks or tights and heels, and some cosy layers on top. A rock-chic pair of boots, mixed styles for contrasts (like flowly pleated skirts with a bohemian fur or a tough biker jacket), etc....

Fur Clothing- as always...
Bell Bottoms- aka Flare jeans
Wide Leg Pants

Accessories:
Leather-ware harness
Choker necklaces
Cuff bracelets!
Studs

Colors: This year fall is slightly different! Bright colors are also going to be trendy with fall!
Black
Olive
Bronze shades?
Midnight blue, silver, and gray shades
Forest green and plum

Oh! and I think that the popular tribal print will be slightly reinvented as a trend for Autumn too!
Uhh Feather, Tribal, Army green will be popular in both seasons!

Dress nonchalantly. Don't overdo it or under do it by wearing sweats. I think the 2nd and 3rd days are the days you should wear you cute new stuff :D. Be different!
Oh! I was going to add... you should also buy cute jackets like white jean jacket, cropped jean jacket, etc over dresses (very cute) or tanks that don't meet dresscode and Miss me jeans, uggs, Juicy couture, Pink hoodies, Coach bags are also popularï

designer school bags for kids image
Q. I need to describe a rich or sophisticated teenager for an assignment.

Which points should I approach?

I thought I could say she wears designer's clothes. Which designer could I mention?

And what are other topics would be appropriate?

Answer
WOW thias is fun.

Approach points suich as
pressure from parents adn soceity to succeed and carry on the legacy
keeping up appearances
being a normal teen in spite of it all

I know quite a few, being the poor scholarhip girl shipped of to a upper east side school.
They also aren't rude at all- they are polite to the point where it is annoying. They were raised to be polite, high overachievers so they could inherit their parents legacies, but not neccesarily their money.

Gossip girl is fun to watch but a stretching of the truth; the bnooks are exageerated but better. Kids will be kids, no matter money or not.

Often, it is the most obnoxious noveau riche kids that are rude. Noveau riche means families that have quickily fallen into money and hterefore imitate the mistaken stereotype of being haughty.

In fact, although many of these kids are much more pleasant to be around, there is a lot of cattiness and backstabbing going around (for the sake of politeness) than the more upfront public school culture.

Therefore, Paris Hilton is a very poor representation.

The reason rich kids grow up to be rich is not the mistaken fact that they inherit money; instead their parnets emphasize success in their households so these kids grow up to have even more money.

Old money, such as from the upper east side, are very conservative and not flashy with their wealth at all, but they do appreciate high quality.

They don;'t wear super high end designers casually, but instead they like these designers for casual times

marc jacobs
abercrombie
lesportsac
longchamp
Ralph lauren polo
juicy couture
LAMB
j. crew
vineyard vines
tory burch
seven for mankind
true religion
american apparel

START (my own little narrative thingy)

She is the modern day Daisy Buchanan of F. Scott Fitzgerald's great American masterpiece, the Great Gatsby. She is sixteen in the city, an American Beauty; smooth and as fragile as polished china.

Her name is Clemency Elizabeth Rhodes. She is known as Clemi. Clemency is the term for mercy; the girl herself is that.

The parents are named John and Adrienne Rhodes. Lydia is called Addy, but Clemency calls her mom. John is a bank president and one of the trustees at Clemency's single sex private school, The Montclair School. She has one sibling, an younger brother, Aiden Rhodes.

They live at the top of East 73rd Street, in a penthouse.

She lives a rather normal life for her set. Every morning she picks up her Longchamp bag, and hails a taxi to school. She is wearing the standard issue uniform, the hideous kilt that has been rolled and altered to just about mid/high thigh length. She is wearing her favorite Tory Burch Reva flat and a demure pearl necklace, along with a ribbon in her hair. As her other has always told her, first impressions make all the differences, and body language and physical apperance is almost as importance of quality and intelligence. Clutching cashmere sweater closer, she shivers, as it is november in the city and the leaves on the trees are no longer falloing but instead snow will soon be falling.

She thinks about varsity field hockey practice. Has Clemi forgotten her stick? No, she has remember she left it in her locker at school.

Clemi thinks about college, a choice that her parents have stressed since eigth grade. John is hoping for her daughter to go to Yale his alma mater, while Lydia has a preference for Smith. This is the point Clemi has been working towards.

She unlocks her iPhone. Laura text messaged her last night, reminding her of the party next weekend. Clemi has forgotten; but it is Lynsey's sweet sixteen, and is it going to be held at the Tribeca rooftop. Clemi realizes that she might not be able to attend; her parents had planned to go to their country house in Connecticut, and Clemi had a horse show.

As well as hitting hte books; Clemi will be taking APs in May; she is nervous, as if she mess up she will receive another speech not from her father (who is too busy to really approach her) but ehr mother who will exclaim what a faliure of a daughter she is. But no, hasn't Clemi lived her sixteen years trying to live up to her mother's stand of the modern renaissance woman? Unparralled in taste, appearance and cultivation, grace and intelligence? Didn't Clemi exude this aspect at the tender age of sixteen? Wasn't she not only an art connoisseur, but an intellectual heavyweight (mastering such philisophical topics as existentialism or feminism?)? Was she not the authority of fashion, good taste and pristine etiquette?

She was keeping up appearances for the adults all right. She wished she could join Laura in "partying like a rockstar".

No, she must not think that. Clemi put her mind on more happier topics, such as the impending Thanksgiving dinner, where both sides of the family will congregate in the nice dining room and the good china will be set out.

Yes.

Shit, she realized, that she had forgotten the cupcakes she had to bake for the fundraiser.

Clemency Avery Rhodes was just as normal as the next person.

What's the need to chase down such high paying jobs?

Annoying G

I've been taught to chase down really high paying jobs since i was a kid. My parents wanted for me what they couldn't have themselves - big house, name brand cars, stays at fancy hotel, designer bags, designer shoes, etc. But i've never really wanted that. My peers are working their butts off in school to land jobs as doctors, pharmacists, lawyers. Along the way, they will accrue massive debts without a guarantee that they would land a high paying job. I don't want to make more than 30 k a year. Yeah, i wouldn't mind having more, but i really won't be willing to sell my soul or slave away my youth for 100k or 200k a year. What the hell would i do with that money? Well, as a side note, i also don't want a family. Maybe that's why these people are trying so hard- kids are expensive?

Answer
This sounds exactly like me. No one needs crazy amounts of money to be happy. I would be perfectly content in a one-bedroom apartment working 40-50 hours a week. A car that goes from point A to point B (Or even no car at all). College isn't worth it anymore. And kids are an unnecessary and narcissistic expense.

How to look fabulous in uniforms for school ?

school bags with wheels for girls image

Mtorria

I have to wear uniforms to school for dress code what to do my colors are khaki pants and hunter green and white collar shirts or polos

Answer
Well I would recommend really basic makeup, like a little lip gloss, mascara, tinted moisturizer and concealer if you have any blemishes. The lip gloss I would recommend is NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss from the drugstore. For mascara either L'oreal Telescopic or L'oreal Voluminous Mascara also from drugstore. The tinted moisturizer and concealer depends on your skin tone.
I'm not suggesting you break the rules, but you could probably get away with wearing this makeup even if you are not allowed any at your school.
Then, style your hair really nicely. Loose, straight or curled hair looks nice in a school uniform as long as it looks neat. You could straighten or curl your hair every once in a while to mix it up a little.
If you are allowed any accessories, try wearing a couple of nice bracelets. They always look good with school uniforms and are fast to put on.
Then, choose a great school bag. Since you wear the same uniform every day, you don't have to worry about it complimenting lots of different outfits like most girls do. Choose one that looks good with green and white. The opposite of green on the color wheel is magenta or red, so you could choose a red back back. Otherwise I would say to get a different bright colored one to offset the school uniform that could be a little dull.
If you can choose your own shoes, I would recommend some plain converse in your favorite color.
Good luck :)

Goody bag ideas for a race-car themed birthday party?

ShareKnowl

I have boys and girls attending the party. Age range 2-12. Need ideas for cheap goody bags. Preferably a single item. No candies . Thanks a bunch.

Answer
I would get car themed coloring books/pages and print off internet to put in bag with crayola crayons usually .25 or 50 cents in back to school sales.

Why do goody bags? We never did.

Why not do a take home art project of make a car from boxes (free at grocery store), Cut cardboard wheels out, color with crayon or paint. Let them do a Fred Flintstone race by standing in their box, holding it up in the air and running. Cheap and entertaining and more memorable souvenir than a cheap goody bag. duct tape straps over the shoulder can help hold car up for small kids...

Personally I think it's the agents fault!! What the fu*k does any footballer need an agent for? I know a lot of footballers are not the most intellectually intelligent people, but for example, if you are earning 10.000 a week at one club, and another offers you loads more cash, a signing on fee, and you get 10% of the transfer fee, do u really need someone to help u with that? If u want a move, and u like the offer, u say yes...if u dont, you say no!!

Some of the best negotiators in the world have never been to university, or even finished school in a lot of cases...many people look down on them for their lack of education....builders, plumbers, carpenters, market traders, car salesmen/auctioneers...some of the best people in the world to barter a deal...do they need some greasy twat in a suit to negotiate for them and take 10 or 20% ?? No!!

So ban all agents, and give 10% of all transfer fees to a fund for small clubs and youth development programs.

The really big star names just need to hire a secretary/personal assistant to organise their personal appearances, and manage their diaries.....fuc8ing agents - pah!!

On a different point...I am a big believer in a free-market economy and capitalism, so if Ronaldo can convince Real to pay him 300.000 a week, then fair play to him!! If Real are happy to pay it, who are we to complain.

I live in Romania...the average wage here is about 250 euros per month...i earn about 1.500 euros per week...but if my boss or another company offered me more...who am i to complain...take the money and run...u never know when it will end!!

Some actors get 10million for a few days work on a film...then they get a royalty, or commission every time its shown, plus a commision on all video sales!!

Look at what rock/pop stars earn....i dont see too many people moaning about them, and they have a longer career if they are superstars, so they will earn loads more than ronaldo, messi, beckham, etc.

So have a go at them instead!!

The worldâs highest-paid athletes

Buzz up!565 votes PrintEight months on the shelf after knee surgery put a severe dent in his prize money, and killed his overseas appearance fees. One of his main sponsors walked away a year before their agreement was set to expire.

Yet Tiger Woods remains sportsâ highest earner with an annual income two and a half times larger than his closest competitor. The worldâs top golfer made $110 million during the past 12 months and is the best-paid sportsman for the eighth straight year.

Woodsâ knee injury caused his prize money to drop to $5 million from $25 million, but his overall earnings only fell $5 million thanks to an expansion of Woodsâ non-playing financial empire.

PepsiCo launched Gatorade Tiger last year in March with claims that it âhelps focus your mind and your body.â Woods receives a cut of sales for the four flavors sold under his name. When General Motorsâ problems caused Buick to terminate its $8 million a year deal with Woods one year early, the Woods camp moved quickly to sign a deal with AT&T to put the phone companyâs brand on his golf bag in Buickâs place.

In Pictures: The worldâs highest-paid athletes

Nike is by far Woodsâ biggest benefactor with an annual payday of more than $30 million for the golfer. Woods profits from the success of the companyâs golf division, and last year sales for Nike Golf hit a record $725 million. Woodsâ most lucrative new endeavor is his golf course design business. Last year he announced plans for a third course to be built in Mexico. His other courses in Dubai and North Carolina are currently under construction.

Our list of the highest-paid athletes looks at earnings derived from salaries, bonuses, prize money, endorsements and licensing income between June 2008 and June 2009 and does not deduct for taxes or agentsâ fees. Overall, the top 20 earned $789 million, down 1 percent from last year. The cutoff to make the list was $30 million.

Drop-offs from last year include boxer Floyd Mayweather (has not fought since December 2007), NFL players Ben Roethlisberger and Dwight Freeney (both made the 2008 list after inking contracts with big signing bonuses) and Formula One driver Fernando Alonso (just missed the cut).

The highest-ranking of the four newcomers to the list is boxer Manny Pacquiao who earned $40 million over the last year, tied for the sixth most. Pacquiao cemented his claim as the worldâs best pound-for-pound fighter with convincing knockouts of Oscar De La Hoya in December and Ricky Hatton in May. The two blockbuster fights garnered more than 2 million pay-per-view buys in the U.S. and earned Pac-Man $30 million combined.

Pacquiaoâs massive popularity in his native Philippines is why companies like Nike and San Miguel beer have signed him to endorse their products. Pacquiao intends to use that popularity to run for political office when his ring career is over.

Our 20 highest earners have a very international flavor with Pacquiao one of eight non-Americans on the list. Finnish Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen earned $45 million over the past year, tied for second on our list with hoop legends Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Right behind that trio is global icon David Beckham who earned $42 million playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy and AC Milan, while shilling for Adidas, Giorgio Armani and Motorola.

Notable omission: the entire NFL, which didnât place anyone in the top 20 despite being the worldâs richest sports league. The leagueâs salary cap keeps a lid on individual player salaries, and few players outside of Peyton Manning collect big endorsement deals. The top NFL earner during the past 12 months was Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha who made $22 million, mainly as a result of the three-year, $45 million contract he signed in February.

The top five:

2t. Kobe Bryant: Slideshow

What happens if you get a felony at age 14?

My name is bob and i got caught drinking before school the principle called the police and they searched me. Unfortunately I found X on the ground and put it in my pocket:( They found it and now i have a felony and court on june 1st. What happens Now? Will I go to Juvenal hall? What happens to my license?

Answer
Honestly? It depends on your history, your grades, the way you act, your state, and the people you know. It depends on the judge, the principal, the officer that was assigned to you, and your parents.

This may not be completely true, considering I was in a slightly different situation.

If you're NOT in high school yet, it won't go on your permanent record. Anything during and after high school stays there forever. If you are in high school, you'll have to deal with it. You'll end up losing your license for about 6 months, most insurance companies won't accept you, you'll have a hard time finding a job, etc. Let's hope you're still in middle school.

Just follow along with it. Show up to your court date ON TIME. DO NOT BE LATE. If you're late, for ANY reason, that will look TERRIBLE. Hopefully the judge will let you off with just community service and a fine. When you go there: be smart, tell the truth, use MANNERS, and apologize often. Say yes sir, yes ma'am often, apologize, say you won't ever do it again, you learned your lesson, etc. If they see that you're a good kid, good grades, no other history of bad things, they'll probably just let you off with a warning or community service and a fine. If they find out that you're a terrible student, bad grades, poor manners, etc... you'll be looking at a ton of community service, juvenile time, and you'll have to go to alcohol classes. If your school has prevention presentations often like mine does, you'll have to present a speech and share your story, try to convince the entire school or class to not do what you did.

I know all of this because it happened to me. I was 14 also, an 8th grader in middle school. I was a stoner.. Always smoked weed before school and at lunch. All the time. Whenever I could. In fact, it was exactly a year ago from tomorrow (4-20 -__-), during my 7th period class (which happened to be my last class of the day). In the morning I didn't leave my friend's paraphernalia at her house - I took it to school. I'd done it before, but no one suspected anything. We were down at the locker rooms, since my last period was kind of a PE class... In the bathroom stall there was an air vent on the ceiling, so I thought it'd be a terrific idea to just blow the smoke into it. I did, and I left the items in my jacket, down in the locker rooms. About 10 minutes later, the principal (who happened to be that class's teacher...) came up to me and told me to follow him, brought me to the locker room and confiscated it, called the police and my mom, etc. I was horrified - I had never gotten caught before, with anything. I thought my plan was great, no one would notice. But people at my school like to steal things from bags in the locker room - and they went through my jacket and found it, and told on me. Their excuse was, they could smell it. They probably could though.

Anyway, I was charged with paraphernalia and ...something else that I don't remember... I was supposed to be getting a call from the judge for my court date, I was expelled for the rest of the year, I was told I had to present in the DARE program as a bad example, and that didn't even include the punishment from my mom. the thing is... the cops didn't care either way. They deal with kids all the time, but I had good grades and I was a great student. I didn't try lying (much..), I just exaggerated the truth. Like... I told them it wasn't mine. It really /wasn't/ mine. I wasn't lying. I said that my friend asked me to hold it for her. She /did./ We didn't want to be late for school by returning it to her house, so I held It for her because she didn't have pockets. I wasn't lying at all.

Anyway, The police never called back to tell me my court date. We kept calling and calling but they never answered, and they ignored our messages. So after a while we said fuck it, if they don't want me to go to court, then I won't. I ended up with no charges. The only thing that happened was me getting expelled, and that didn't even end up on my record because it was only middle school.

So after that I definitely learned my lesson - Don't do it in public :p Or when you know you're going to get caught. It's like showing up to work drunk. You'll lose your job. Show up to school drunk, you get expelled. Show up home drunk, you face the wrath of your parents. It all has consequences, and you'll just have to deal with it. The whole thing will blow over in the next year or so.

Next time - Don't do it when you know you have school. Be careful, because if you get off with a warning the first time and get caught the second time - you /won't/ get off again.
Good luck.

How long does it take your kid to get out the door in the morning?

pdooma

My son is a dawdler when he eats breakfast and man, it takes him a good hour from bed to out the door. Thinking he'll be having to get to school on time...is this normal?

How long does it take you, personally, to get ready? How disheveled are you willing to be if you're running late?

Answer
when I was in high school I would literally roll out of bed two minutes before I had to be out the door. I showered the night before, and pulled my clothes out, so that way in the morning all I had to do was throw on my clothes, brush my hair real quick, grab some breakfast to go, and then I would brush my teeth at school as soon as I got there. Now it takes me forever to go anywhere. I have to get up, get dressed, get both of my kids up and dressed, change diapers, nurse the baby, feed my son some breakfast which can sometimes take forever, get teeth brushed, diaper bag packed, get kids buckled into car seats, deal with however many tantrums we have that morning, and then we can go. It usually takes close to two hours. I'm glad I don't need to go anywhere often. I still shower the night before I have to go anywhere, and I never bother doing anything with my hair, so that saves time. If I didn't have to take my kids with me (which I always do) I could probably get up and be out the door within 15 minutes or so without too much rush.

Do you buy your kids new backpacks each school year?

So my kids get new backpacks each year, but i did notice some of their classmates have the same old backpacks. I know things are tuff for some parents but there are good deals out there you just have to shop around. So whats your opinion new backpacks or reuse?

Answer
My son gets a new backpack every year. He just started 3rd grade. Every year he wants something different. Star Wars, Transformers, etc. Last year he insisted on getting a Pittsburgh Pirates one. This year it's just a plain grey and black with the across the chest type strap from Five Below. Once he gets older (into high school) I will buy him a more expensive one that lasts hopefully 2-3 years. If a new $10 backpack makes him happy every year, I have no problem buying it.

There is nothing wrong with reusing one, regardless of your financial state. I just prefer to buy a new one every year.

What does a kid need in his backpack for headstart?

singaloves

My son is 3 and wants to take a backpack to school this year when he starts headstart. What should I put in it, because it isn't actually required to bring one? Any ideas?

Answer
Put a Composition notebook and some crayons. Composition notebooks are pretty cheap and it could make him feel like a big kid going to school with a little notebook to write in. Also the crayons are always fun for kids, I still love them and I'm in high school :D ! Packing a toy would be nice too. Just not his #1 Favorite. If other kids take his favorite or it breaks it would be the end of his world.

My sons Holden and Alden started kindergarden a few weeks ago but are in 2 different classes and every day they cry before school because they dont want to leave each other. What can I do to make them feel more comfortable with being spilt apart?

Answer
Get a couple of those keychain photo holders and put in a photo of the two of them together. Attach one to each of their backpacks or lunch bags. Remind them that they will be together again after school, and that they can look at their photos if they feel lonely for each other during school. At my daughter's kindergarten, there is a family photo board that the kids can look at whenever they feel the need.

You could also encourage them to draw pictures for each other during the day, and give them to one another after school. Before school, you could have each boy 'write' the other a little note or wrap up a little treat to sneak into the other boy's lunch bag or backpack. Make a game out of it, so they look forward to finding their 'surprises' once they get to school. Talk to their teachers about other ideas.

Good luck!

What will a hyperactive baby be good at?

cyberjazz

My 1 month baby boy sleeps less than normal. When he's awake, he moves his hands and legs, and always kicks his blanket off. He cries, yells, and moves vigorously when sensing light contacts. I always wait until he wakes up (not very long) to move him to another place, otherwise he yells out. He can already lift his head up when lying on his stomach, and tries to flip. Some references point that this is an active-type baby.

I wonder what will this type of baby be good at, later on during teens and adulthood? Sports? Being sociable? What kind of treatments that would stimulate the baby (or later on toddler) to sharpen his strength?

Answer
Yes, I know what you mean.

My daughter was like that, always in motion. I made sure to tire her out pretty well before nap and bedtimes to make sure she got enough solid hours of sleep.

Otherwise, she was a great kid to have around. I put her in a front pack facing outward until she was too big to carry like that, and then in a backpack peeking over my shoulder.

She loved being with me as I cooked, rolled out dough, ironed, worked in the garden, etc. and I wasn't spastic worried that she was going to kill herself because she could climb out of anything (crib, playpen, whatever) from four or five months old and up.

She swam like a fish from a very young age, enjoyed ballet from age 3, and ran triathalons (swim, bicycle, run) untill age 12, when she took up field hockey and tennis.

She's grown now, but goes rock climbing, still dances professionally sometimes, and is in med school, which is physically gruelling along with the mental side.

Just try to get the training in with him BEFORE he goes off recklessly--I had her in swim lessons before she could walk, taught her to drive at age 12 with LOTS of rules to make sure she'd be well in control of a vehicle before that superactive body of hers took over.

I think it paid off because she seeks out the 'proper' way to do things and takes lessons before going into frantic activity . . . LOL.

What is the correct way to store a camera in a camera bag?

bella

I am borrowing a camera from school for photo class and i want to make sure i'm keeping it in there right, you put it in facing the lens up right? Please, if i'm wrong, tell me so i won't damage the camera! Thanks! (:

Answer
Of course you should make sure the lens cover is on to avoid scratching of the lens (that should go without saying, but I'm saying it anyway). I'm assuming your talking about a 35-mm camera? If so, any camera shop carries personal covers for various models of 35-mm cameras that fit like a glove over the camera. They are fairly inexpensive. You should put the camera in a camera bag lens up so that if you drop the bag the lens doesn't hit the ground. I would also suggest wrapping the camera in a thick, soft cloth to insulate the camera. You also want to avoid storing the camera in a hot and/or humid place.

Where did this originate? Where parents carry the kids backpack?

TS

I was with my sister picking her kids up from school (elementary) and all the OTHER parents were carrying their kids backpack. I mean A LOT of them. When did kids stop carrying their own backpacks? Is this something new? Do you think its right?

Answer
Because parents want to further pussify their kids.
The schools (in their infinite wisdom) are admittedly loading down even the tiniest of kids with heavy books, but that's still no reason for parents to carry their backpacks 50 feet to their MomMobile. Kids don't even walk any more! They get driven even if home's less than a few blocks, and now they can't even carry their own books to the minivan.
Pathetic. Not the kids, mind, they have no choice. What's pathetic is the parents who create this kind of dependence.

Parents these days won't let kids do anything for themselves because the more a kid does for themselves, the more independent they become, and the more independent they are, the less *control* a parent has on them, and total control over everything (until at least age 18, but usually it's closer to 30 now) is the current aim. It's just a sign of the times that parents can't even allow their kids the independence to carry their own bag.

I don't see it as spoiling at all. I don't think most of the kids want this kind of babying; it's the parents forcing it on them. I know that my kids at least would object if I took something as trivial as being responsible for their own things out of their hands.

How can I become a really great tennis player?

Q. I'm 14 and in 8th grade and it's he end ofthe school year but in 9th grade I want to be on the tennis team !!! The school I'm going to is the number 1 best in the state so it'll be hard to get on!:( any tips? I just joined a gym so I'll be running etc and it also has tennis courts so I'll play with my older brother and get lessons once and while... What else? I neeeeeeeeed to make this team!!!!!!!!

Answer
If you want to move up the ladder of tennis' many different levels of skill, then the quickest way to do that is to take lessons. Here are links to three [USA] tennis-teaching organizations. There should be a function in the web sites below for plugging in a city, state, zip code, etc to find a teaching pro near you :-)
http://www.uspta.org/
http://www.ptrtennis.org/
http://www.mtmca.com/

If you aren't already a highly-ranked tournament player, in my opinion, you should be spending most of your time hitting tennis balls rather than working out at a gym, running, stuff like that. Not that fitness is bad, it's great! But it doesn't help you get better at hitting tennis balls. Understand? Spend as much time as you can on the court, hitting.

Try to get out and hit tennis balls five or six days a week. If you only play or practice two or three days a week, it's very difficult to make progress and improve. Dedicated, work & play on a daily basis is what counts. Of course, good coaching and enthusiasm count, too. If your technique is lousy and you practice a lot, all you're doing is ingraining bad technique. Yuck :-( Not good.

Call or email other kids and play prartice sets. Have fun with it!! If things get dull, work on your behind-the-back shots, 'tweeners, catching the ball on your strings, fun stuff like that. Don't spend the whole day with it, lol.

If your strokes are not yet *thoroughly* learned in your head, I recommend waiting a couple of years before you play your first "serious," sanctioned USTA-tournament where rankings are on the line. You can still play practice sets or practice matches. A good teaching pro will be able to give you advice on whether or not you're ready for tournaments.

A very famous coach from the Spartak Academy in Russia said that it's a big mistake to play tournaments before a player's technique is thoroughly learned. Read about her in "The Talent Code" below.

Here are some sources of online tennis information. Some things are free, others cost money

FAR more important than winning is your **sportsmanship.**

Why is sportsmanship so important? Because if you use gamesmanship, cheating, intimidation, etc to win a match, it's a lot like stealing. Don't expect people to forget what you did, because they won't.

To avoid these problems, read: **"The Code."** It tells you how to deport yourself in matches that have no officials. If you always play by The Code, you will stay out of trouble and be able to make friends with other players, coaches, etc who also value good sportsmanship :-) Unfortunately, there are some people who couldn't care less about it. It's a mixed bag, and nobody's perfect in this department!

Along these lines, the screaming that some of the top players do is a problem, because it is, in fact, gamesmanship, and IMHO, the ITF, ATP, WTA, USTA etc etc etc ought to have banned it entirely many years ago.

Get yourself a copy of "Rules of Tennis" from http://www.ustashop.com/

Click on "Books" in the left-hand margin. When the Books page comes up, you can order yourself a copy with a credit card. "Rules of Tennis" costs $2.95 plus shipping.

Best of luck, hope you have some fun along the way as you struggle to become the best player you can be :-)

I used to play soccer when I was in high school and have always been active and on a low fat diet, but they don't seem to go away. I have a tiny waist but always have to buy my pants two sizes bigger just to fit in the lower half. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Answer
The following healthy living recommendations will help you if youâre trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get an online, desktop, or cell phone diet and fitness calculator. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

Here are two articles on how to break through a weight loss plateau:
http://www.webmd.com/content/article/86/99147.htm
http://www.webmd.com/content/pages/18/102117.htm

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Avoid âHigh Glycemic Load Carbsâ (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Does anybody know any tricks that can help me from getting mad so easily?

Answer
A selection of treatments follow: If you can't deal with it by using one of the techniques, such as counting backwards from 20, to 1, (and prevent yourself from making yourself angry, in the first place) is important to express that anger appropriately, at the time, and to the person who caused it, if possible, or immediately afterwards. If not, maybe by walking away later, and bellowing your rage and/or frustration. In some situations, such as work, or school, it might be better to cover your mouth with a cupped hand, bandanna/handkerchief, or use the crook of your elbow, to muffle the sound. Some people find that it helps to journal those thoughts, and emotions soon afterwards.

Anger, which is repressed, rather than healthily expressed, tends to fester, and later may cause explosive fits of rage, or depression. Let yourself feel the burning energy of that anger, and visualise it, as vividly as possible, as a hot flame cleansing you. It can help to have someone you can talk to. For more physically inclined people, a punching bag, or hitting your pillow, can be an effective release mechanism: visualise, as vividly as you can, that you are striking back at the cause of that anger. "But next time, when you get mad, just remember this quote: 'Those who anger you, conquer you.' It's basically saying that when you give someone the power to make you mad, or let it get to you, it's like they're controlling you.

When I realized that, it made me mad, so I try to control my anger and not let people see it. You can still control your anger without being walked all over. You just have to draw a line." Try saying to yourself, in your mind: "I am fire! I am ice!". Repeat for as long as it takes for you to calm down sufficiently. Anger management is addressed in much more detail than can be included here, in section 4, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris and practice daily, one of the relaxation methods in section 2, 2.c, 11, or 2.i Most people find the progressive muscular relaxation simple, and it can be done in several minutes. Others prefer to repeat a word, like "easy" in their minds, or a short phrase, and focusing your attention on your breath is another technique. You will know from the ease of use, and effect, which suits you best.

A variant of Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective, is on page N, of section 6, and I use it before the relaxation techniques, because I have found that it makes them quicker to employ, and more effective. These will enable you to emotionally centre yourself, when practiced regularly. Yoga, and/or T'ai Chi may also help you become a calmer, more self controlled person, who is less influenced by the behaviour of others. Imagine, as vividly as you possibly can, that your anger, fears, your self-recriminations, all the agonizing "I'm-so-Stupids," and "I'm-too-fats"; every painful "I-can't-I-have-it" or "I-can't-do-it"are huge raging, hurtful bulls snorting and charging at you. You see them coming at you and you hold out your red matador's cape at arms length and simply let them charge right by. Every time they come at you, hold out your arm with the red cape and let them rage and snort and go right on by you.

How do you cope with someone's constant irrational anger?

Annie

My sister constantly is angry about everything that comes along. I can not have a normal conversation anymore. It's like she looks every day for something to be mad about - and I mean every day! I'm suspecting she is bi-polar. How do I cope with her constant anger? I try not to respond but then she's mad that I don't. I go ahead and take whatever blame there is but she just moves on to other topics to be mad about. She criticizes the air I breathe! Help!

school bags for 8th grade girls image

I'm going into 8th grade and I really want to Get everytig straight. So reply to my question . Best answer 10 Points .

Answer
Okay well first the supplies. In my opinion, it's not very different from elementary school, but here you go:

-pens (black & blue, some teachers prefer a specific colour)
-coloured pen (red or green or something like that)
-pencils
-erasers
-ruler
-SCIENTIFIC calculator (a cheap one will do, you don't need to go crazy with the $100 ones)
-lined paper (A LOT)
-highlighters (more than one)
-individual binders (whichever size you prefer, at least 1 inch)
-notebooks (if you want, instead of taking notes on lined paper, but a binder and paper will do)
-math tools (protractor, compass, whatever else you get in those kits)
-graph paper (would be very helpful, not completely necessary)
-colouring pencils
-markers (could be helpful)
-DIVIDERS
-white out (if you want, i make a lot of mistakes and hate writing with anything other than black pens so.. )
-a lock for your locker
-agenda or planner if your district doesn't give you one

don't worry about it too much though. buy only what you KNOW you'll need, like paper and binders, pens and pencils, and your teachers will tell you specifically what else you'll need. though that should about sum it up.

now, it depends what electives you're taking. I've always done art and computer/technology classes, so i'm not sure what you need for drama/music/vocals/dance and that kind of thing.

if you take art, you'll need:
-a sketchbook
-blank paper
-sketching pencils
-erasers
-colouring pencils
-ruler
-a notebook (to take notes for the theory part)
-glue
-scissors

and you may need stuff for your own special projects later on, and I found that sometimes a calculator was helpful. I also painted things at home and such, so if you want supplies at home to do work, sometimes you can take things from school back home, but if you want your own, well, it's just an idea.

for gym, if you don't have a uniform, then shorts, shirt, running shoes, hair elastic (if you're a girl), deodorant, a bag to put it all in, and if you're change rooms have lockers, then another lock for your gym locker. if you do have a uniform, then take everything but the shorts and shirt, and take money just in case you can buy it on the first day, which you might be able to. but a must, is always have hair elastics and an extra pair of socks in your gym bag, it's very helpful. :)

I don't know about your school's rules, but at my school, it's common to find kids with ipod touches, laptops, and smart phones. they're welcomed into the classrooms, and they're very useful to search something real quick, view things on your course website, access your school's email system, that kind of thing. plus it's fun. i took in either my laptop or ipod touch every day and found it very helpful. plus i could play games, and the teacher wouldn't even know. :)

as for things to wear, you know, i wouldn't worry too much. everyone has their own unique personality and style. there really are goths, and there really are jocks, and there really are nerds. so really, you can't stick out in high school, trust me.

but some things to have because they're always helpful:
-jeans
-tank tops
-basic sweaters
-skirts

girls mostly wear, well, whatever is in fashion really. i'm like you. i wear cute skirts from h&m, forever 21, and anywhere else where i simply like it. and most likely a tank top or some kind of similar top. i don't own ANYTHING hollister, and no one cares. i own quite a bit of ae, and it's helpful because ae always has stuff that you can't really go wrong with.

i saw a lot of girls with uggs, dresses and skirts (flower patterns were popular), leggings, skinny jeans, those cropped tops sort of things where you can see girl's stomachs ahahah (whatever they're called), and just t-shirts and tank tops. really, i pretty much saw everything. just go to the mall and look at whatever's at the front of the store or in the windows and you can't go wrong :P you definitely won't stand out. everyone is different. and no one even cares about what you wear (unless you wear something that is obviously NOT fashionable). If you want, stay plain for a week or two, or just wear something you KNOW is in, and see what other girls are wearing and copy it, if it makes you more comfortable. :)

good luck! you'll be fine! :D

Best way to start of school tips?

rachel.

Can you give me some tips on how to prepare for the first day of school?
I'm in 8th grade if you really want to know.

Answer
i mite be a lil 6th grade scrub (thats wut they call 6th graders at my school) :P but believe me, there are tons of people who look up to the gods of 8th grade.

1) get a stylish, looking backpack. Nobody wants to be seen...or be seen with someone who has an ugly, old, big, bag overload, backpack. A nice black jansport would be nice. Try a zebra print cover, 4 8th graders at my school have one..and EVERYONE knows them. Or, you could carry an ordinary solid color bookback. made out of jean/fabric. Add pins and patches to make it look cute :)

2) If you dont have to wear uniform...DONT WEAR IT!. But if yew do, make sure ur shirt fits a lil tight (to show off ur goods) wear a navy blue shirt on top, and a white shirt on the bottom, and let it show a lil bit at the bottom, and maybe a bit at the neck line. If yew dont gotta wear uniform, wear pink/blue/black skinny jeans. any skinny jean will do, but those colors are perferable. Wear a cute T. like http://www.tillys.com/tillys/Categories.aspx?cid=1061&ctlg=020_Girls
or a flannel with ordinary skinny jeans. flats, vans, or converse make a nice fit :)

3) STYLE UP UR HAIR!!! curly, wavy, sraight, layered, long, choose the best for you!

4) SCHOOL SUPPLIES! u need school supplies. no one wants to be stuck possibly asking a stranger for supplies. get cute pencils, binders that show off you style, cute erasers, etc.

5) ACCESORIES!!! braceletes, necklaces, trendy watched, brooches, or cute lil bows for u hair mite work ;)

oh and one more thing....BE NICE!!

trust me, the little ppl such as me hate it when 8th graders think theyre all that. act nice around ppl, dont be a hore, dont walk around laughing like ur crazy or to get attention, and dont call 6th graders names. seriosuly, we already have a plan to get back at sum so called 8th grader, lol

hope i helped :)

I have heard of moms sending these to school before. They are individually bagged for each kid, with a treat that resembles a hamburger, fries ( I think it is those string chips ), a drink, and a little toy.

Answer
Are you looking for a little treat that is shaped like a hamburger and fries? Or are you looking for fun lunch treats in general?

Here is a snack combo treat that resembles a burger and fries. The "burger" is a cookie and the fries are like a peanut butter fudge. They are from quickcooking.com There are pictures at the website.

Cookie Burger
http://recipes.tasteofhome.com/eRMS/recp.aspx?recid=7956
INGREDIENTS
1 package (17-1/2 ounces) sugar cookie mix
2 drops yellow food coloring, optional
1-1/2 cups peanut butter chips, chopped
TOPPING:
3/4 cup flaked coconut
5 to 6 drops green food coloring
FILLING:
1/2 cup butter, softened
2-2/3 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS
Prepare cookie dough according to package directions; add yellow food coloring if desired. Stir in peanut butter chips. Shape into 1-1/4-in. balls; place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a glass. Bake at 375° for 9-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
Place coconut in a plastic bag; sprinkle 5 to 6 drops green food coloring into bag and shake until color is evenly distributed.
In a small mixing bowl, cream butter until smooth. Add the confectioners' sugar, cocoa, milk and vanilla; beat until smooth. Frost the bottoms of 22 cookies; sprinkle with coconut. Top with remaining cookies and gently squeeze together. Yield: 22 sandwich cookies.
"You may substitute your favorite sugar cookie recipe for the cookie mix; just add the yellow food coloring if desired and the peanut butter chips"

Peanutty Fries
http://recipes.tasteofhome.com/eRMS/recp.aspx?recid=7957
INGREDIENTS
1 package (10 ounces) peanut butter chips
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
Paper muffin cup liners (2-1/2-inch diameter)
Red icing, optional

In a microwave, melt peanut butter chips with milk; stir until smooth. Pour into a foil-lined and greased 9-in. baking pan. Cool completely at room temperature. Lift out of the pan and invert onto a cutting board.
Remove foil; cut into 3-in. x 1/4-in. strips. Fold muffin cup liners in half, pressing out creases; fold in half again. Fold point under; use as holder for fries. Use icing for ketchup if desired. Yield: about 3-1/2 dozen.

How should a high school kid keep organized?

me myslef

I have 4 classes a day. How should I keep organized? I don't like very large things.

Answer
3 ring binder with a folder for each class in it, also one of those pencil bags that fit in the binder to hold all pencils, pens, highlighters, calculator, compass, etc., and definitely an assignment book or calendar to write down when assignments and projects are due.
