Goin into Middle school?

Carley H

Hi I am going into middle school and my very first time getting a locker what do I do to spice it up and keep it clean? any ideas? and also how to keep all of my classes orginized?

Answer
Hey! I just finnished middle school so i can definitely help you.

1. Lockers-A locker is a storage area for your backpack and books you aren't using. At my old school we were only allowed to go to our lockers before school, after school and during lunch. Some kids use there locker and some don't. I think it's very helpful to use your locker because sometimes you will have books and stuff and you want a place to keep them. I didn't use my locker for my last year(BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE) I know my problems are huge lol.

2.Backpacks/Totes-It really depends of your style. If your super girlie than you might want to carry a tote. Tote's are great to carry back and forth but if you don't get a good one they can be a hassle. backpacks are more in style in middle school. I would just get a cute backpack that matches your personality.A

3.Lunches-For the first couple of weeks i would pack my lunch because your just getting used to the school and so are the cafeteria workers. If you are packing your lunch i would suggest a brown paper bag because there small and if your running late you can just throw away your bag and you won't have to stop by your locker. If you don't want to carry a lunchbox there is a student store and lunch line. The student stores sells chips, Gatorades, cookies, etc.(basically junk food lol). The Lunch Line sells Salads, burgers, pizza, pretzels, etc.(Okay lunches but not that great).

4.Eating Lunch-At lunch you can sit anywhere you'd like. There is not any assigned lunch seats. You don't want to eat alone so, take a deep breath and walk up and ask some girls who look nice could you sit with them. Chances are you won't sit with them for the whole year but they will be 'starter friends ' to keep you from feeling alone.

5.Going to Lockers-Some kids go to there locker every chance possible, some don't go at all. Most student's had 2 binders one was labeled classes 1-3 and the other was labeled classes 4-6. They would put both binders in there backpack and go to there locker in the morning.(putting their backpack up and taking there 1-3 binder). Then they would go to there locker during lunch and pick up there lunch and put away there stuff. After lunch they would get there 4-6 binder. Lastly at the end of the day they would get their backpack and take everything home.

6.Orientation-At my school we got our schedules exactly one week before school started. We went to this orientation, filled out papers, toured the school, bought our PE uniforms, talked to school teachers and current students and ate lunch. Then we got our schedules. BUT this year i'm going to High school and we don't get our schedules until the first day but we still have an orientation. So it varies from school to school.

7. Passing Periods-Each school is different but at my school we got 4 minutes between each class. Trust me that is more than enough time! Talk to the people going the same way as you. Most of the time you will have at least 2 minutes to spare! You should also you passing periods to go to the bathroom because some teachers can be strict about that.

8. Grades- You can keep your grades up by making sure you do all your work and TURN IT IN ON TIME! Just pay attention and ask questions if you need to and it will be no problem. At my school if you were lucky enough to get straight A's then you got to go on this awesome field trip to hang out for a day but remember it is OKAY to get a few B's. Middle school can be hard at time so make sure you don't stress out.

9. Agendas- Most schools issue out agendas for free on the first day of school. An agenda will help you remember assignments and keep up with your work. Using an agenda is optional but it is a great tool so make sure you use it!

10. Designing your locker- Put pictures of your favorite celebs and family. Get a cute shelf or mirror to put inside! It's your locker and you can do basically whatever you want with it.

11. Keeping your locker clean- Every Friday take home any un-necessary stuff that's inside your locker. When your using your locker make sure you keep it clean and organized.

12. If you want more tips there's this great book called "A Smart Girl's Guide to Surviving Middle School" It's a great book that makes you feel more relaxed and excited about starting your first day. I bought that book before I started Middle School and it helped tons!

Good luck next year! I hope you have the time of your life in middle school!

School lunches?? H E L P ! !?

When I send my Twins off to 1st grade I will be sending lunches, Can anyone give me good ideas for variety.

Answer
Make sure you have a small freezer pack in the bag to keep things cold, and ALWAYS send along your own plastic cutlery!!!

Tortilla shells - coat them with stuff the kids like (i.e. ham/cheese, cream cheese with jam or with drained fruit cocktail or banana - then roll them up and slice.
Cold leftover pizza.
Hummus with bagel chips.
Make your own "Lunchable" with healthy alternatives - real sliced leftover roast beef or chicken, cubes/slices of real cheddar cheese, crackers and a cup of washed individual grapes. Vegetable sticks are always welcome by kids, especially if you include a small container of their favorite low-fat dip.
Yogurt is a favorite of most kids and great for school lunches. Children also like cold rice, pasta, and couscous, which can be sent in a container and kept cold.
They love string cheese.
Try wrapping thin slices of lean deli roast beef around short bread sticks.
Cubes of lean ham or turkey breast are also good for kids along with a little packet of mustard or ketchup from a fast food restaurant - for dipping.
Try different pita breads or tortilla wrappings filled with a favorite sandwich meat (NOT a processed meat) or salad, meat and cheese kabobs, or a macaroni salad.
Salsa and chips, assorted pickles, or veggie sticks and slices with dip.
Choose fruits that are easy to eat and not messy. Be sure to peel fruits that need it, and cut them into finger-size pieces for younger children.
Vary the bread offerings from plain sliced bread to raisin bread, pita pockets, dinner rolls, flour tortillas, or mini-bagels.
Rice cakes are a fun addition. Pack tuna salad, peanut butter or cheese spread in a separate container to be spooned on at lunchtime so the cakes don't get soggy.
Mix cream cheese with raisins and a dash of honey to spread on graham crackers.
An old favorite is Ants on a Log. Fill celery sticks with cream cheese, sprinkle with grated carrot, and push in raisons for ants.
If you make chicken breasts, prepare an extra serving and slice it for sandwiches the next day instead of purchasing deli lunch meat.
While youâre making dinner, boil a few eggs. Pack the eggs whole, make deviled eggs, or use them in egg salad.
Make an extra baked potato and pack it with nutritious toppings.
Try some of these sandwich fillings in whole-wheat pocket bread, on whole-grain bread, bagels, crackers, English muffins, rice cakes or rolls, or try filling and rolling tortillas or lavash flat bread.
Cheese, avocado, and sprouts
Grilled cheese with cucumber or sprouts
Leftover grilled vegetables (bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini) with sliced cheese, goat cheese, or pesto sauce
Cheddar or mozzarella cheese with apple slices
Brie cheese with mustard and sprouts
Cheese, tomato, sprouts or lettuce, and pesto sauce
Leftover turkey loaf with tomatoes, and lettuce or sprouts
Sliced leftover chicken or turkey, cranberry sauce, and lettuce
Sliced leftover chicken or turkey, honey mustard, tomatoes, and lettuce or sprouts
Sliced leftover beef with mayonnaise or horseradish, sliced tomato and cucumbers
Chicken salad made with celery, lettuce, and tomato
Tuna/cucumber/green pepper salad with tomato
Salmon salad with lettuce or sprouts
Shrimp salad with lettuce or sprouts
Lowfat cream cheese, and smoked salmon (with tomato, and red onion)
Mix a container of lowfat strawberry yogurt and 1 cup reduced-fat frozen whipped topping (thawed) to make a yogurt dipping sauce for berries; or core an apple and fill it with peanut butter (sprinkle the apple with orange or lemon juice to prevent discoloration); toss a few nuts and M&M's or chocolate chips into a dried fruit mixture to make a healthful snack or dessert.
Here are good veggie/fruit choices - remember to send at least 2 servings: baby carrots (they come packaged plain or with ranch dip); celery sticks (add peanut butter and raisins); julienned, strip-cut or zigzag-cut carrots, zucchini, sweet peppers, cucumbers and summer squash (presentation, presentation!); lettuce and tomato slices (pack separately to put onto a sandwich); grape tomatoes; cubed or cut melon; orange wedges; kiwi slices; pineapple cubes (fresh or juice-packed); berries; apples; and dried fruit such as apricots, raisins, sweetened dried cranberries and cherries.

School bag help!?

imm boreee

I need a school bag for 8th grade. In 6th grade, they changed it to where we aren't aloud to have a baclkpack. So, i used this binder thing they recommended. It was ugly and hiteous! i got rid of it and bought a sporty styled gym bag. EW! what the heck was i thinking? i used that for the rest of the year. In 7th grade i used another sporty styled gym bag, except this one had the words "baby girl" writtnen all over it. EW again! then for christmas i got a tanish abercrombie bag. well, so did everybody else lol. then i bought a roxy toe. This year, i don't know if we are aloud to use a backpack or not because last yr, some kids used them anyway. I have a mini jansport plaid one. its really cute, but would never fit all my stuff in it. so should i carry my other papers and binders in my hand and put a pencil, cell phone ect, in the backpack? or would i get bored of that fast? Give me some good suggestions for kids goodie bags at a school birthday party?

BellaDonna

and does the birthday child get a goodie bag?

Answer
My daughter's school will not let us send in candy. So for her birthday, I made goodie bags with small bags of goldfish crackers, and pretzels, fruit snacks, pencils that said happy birthday, stickers and temp tattoos. They were a hit!

Need opinions, is this bag okay for school?

PointofNoR

I'm 18 year old guy and I'm going to college next month as a freshman.

For graduation from high school, I got this really expensive bag for graduation.

I mean it's nice and all, but I feel like all I'm going to get for comments about it is "nice purse" and all this crap that I hear. It has a strap to go over your shoulder, but I feel like it's going to be more negatively thought of in college...

Which leads me to ask, should I just stick with my backpack? Is the bag nice? Not sure what to do...I just really don't want to be the only kid without the sporty usual backpacks...

I really don't have a flamboyant style or anything. Pretty sporty, laid back, casual...Does it even work well for college...Conflicted

how do i get kids to buy food at school?

kadie w

alright i'm 16 years and i go to a very small school... and our lunch time is very far in the day... so i decided that since all these kids are gonna be hungry they would be desperate to buy food! so that's what i'm doing, selling candy and snack items but what i wanna know is a better way to do so.... how do i get ppl to buy my items???

Answer
LOL, my brother used to sell plastic bags filled with gummy bears during school. Maybe if you package them right and spread the word more people will buy them. You could buy the food at a bulk food store, and then sell them for a cheaper price.

Do u like this school bag? 10 points?

Matthew

Hi I'm a 14 year old boy and wondering if this manbag would look good for school and also what position should i place the bag to the side or to my back left or right? 10 points good detailed answer. http://www.jdsports.co.uk/product/adidas-originals-adicolor-airline-bag/044535/

Answer
Even though im a girl i would say that the bag you have chosen is not that good lets say. Personally I would get a backpack but wear it low. Side bags are quiet not a comfy and might hurt your shoulders over time. (Past experience) even though they look cool and the Adidas thing is normally quiet "cool
Looking" you probably going into year 10 (like me) might wonna get a backpack due to exams and lots of things to carry around and the weight causing pressure on your shoulders. Just something to think about.

Need advice on back to school shopping...?

*

Well, I feel kind of stupid asking for advice on here, but I REALLY need it. So, I start high school next week and I still haven't went school shopping. I have about two pairs of jeans, and two/three shirts from last year that I can still wear, but other than that I need new clothes, under garments, and shoes (boots, but I may be able to get some for Christmas) My mom gave me $140 to buy all my clothes and school supplies, but to be honest that's not enough. I mean it is, but I need a new backpack and clothes and supplies. I wish I didn't go to such a judgmental school, like I would just get one new outfit and that's it but I don't want people to think bad things about me.
So, what should I do? Buy my supplies, then clothes with whatever I have left? Like, I really want to concentrate on my school work and not worry about my appearance but part of me will still worry about what others think. I probably can't get any more money from my mom, so i'm not going to bother to ask. The stores I'm interested going to are: H&M, Forever 21, and Claire's for my earrings, etc. If I don't get a lot of new clothes do you think people will judge me? I mean some stuck up snobs will but most of the people at my school aren't that rich themselves. Have you ever judged someone for wearing the same stuff like all the time? Should I just buy really expensive stuff&only get one or two outfits or should I buy the kind of cheapish stuff and get more? PLEASE answer, give any advice possible. Like I said, I'm trying to JUST focus on school ; Not boys, trying to find love (love will find me, duh :P) My best friends moved away/ went to different schools so I'm REALLY not trying to become friends with the people that already go here, maybe some new kids, idk. I have no problem being by myself (its better than being around fake/annoying people lol) any advice you can give let me know... suggestions on cheap places to buy school supplies, clothes, backpacks, calculators... etc. I'm not ''poor'' but I just need enough to hold me over 'til Christmas and my birthday. A lot of my friends are going through this too so if I get advice I can help them too.

Answer
You're definitely headed in the right direction with H&M and Forever 21. You can always try heading over to the sales rack at any of your favorite stores. Summer's ending, so you can grab a few cute tops that you can just layer during fall or winter. I remember my mom buying our school supplies in bulk, but we never used everything she bought. Only buy the bare minimum and later on in the school year, you can ask for money to stock up again. As for what people think, it's high school. Don't even worry about it. High school is fake and socially unacceptable. These kids are oblivious to reality. They're trying to make themselves seem superior when they have no idea what's to come in the future. So, I hoped this helped. Also, Ross, Marshall's and TJ Maxx always have great prices for cute clothes.
Target too! Good luck!

Does anyone else think that the money schools make/ask parents and guardians to shell out is OUTRAGEOUS?

I do not have any children, however I teach and tutor them. I started up a program for families in need. I have about 50 kids that I enrolled in my program, and I tutor them in areas that they are having trouble with. I offer help in Math, English/Language Arts, Science, U.S. History, Social Studies, Geography, Spanish and Test Prep/Study Skills. All of my services are provided ABSOLUTELY free of charge.

I also donate and provide backpacks full of school supplies to children whose families cannot afford them, and I also pack a week's worth of bag lunches with the kids one night a week at my house so that they can take them to school and have something nutritious to eat for lunch and snacks. I also make sure that they have plenty to drink because so many children are not getting adequately hydrated in schools these days (I work in nursing and I see sick school-aged kids all of the time and too too many of them come in extremely dehydrated) and teachers aren't paying good enough attention to this issue. But that's a whole separate ballgame.

Anyway, I started this program BECAUSE I believe schools are outrageous with their demands for fees and supplies and "suggestions" for donations and such. The supply lists they send home to parents/guardians are outrageous, extensive and very costly. Also, some schools even have programs in classrooms where they want to either have breakfast, snack times or "milk breaks". This is a great idea and all, but it's not if families have to PAY for all of these things. It's not fair for the children whose families cannot afford it. Why should some children have to sit in class and watch other kids have snacks, breakfasts, juices and milks when they have none? Schools should not allow this to happen. They should either provide snacks and drinks for every child, or get rid of the "program" altogether. Some families cannot even afford to send their children to school with adequate lunches (by absolutely NO FAULT of their own), let alone with money for extra snacks, juice and milk! Give these people a break. It's simply not fair.

And don't even get me started on book fairs, plant sales, craft fairs, Christmas gift sales and things like that. (Most of these proceeds do not go 100% to the schools, and if they don't, in my opinion anyway, they shouldn't have them. And some families cannot afford to send their children with money for these things as I've said before, so why should some children feel left out? These are not NECESSARY things. The focus here should be on EDUCATION, not begonias!!!!)

THEREFORE, for these reasons, I started this program. Tutoring is incredibly expensive (especially if you turn to one of those Sylvan learning centers or something - sheesh!) the price of school lunches really adds up (not to mention, you really don't know if what your child is eating is nutritious at all), and school supply costs (plus those little "extra" fees they like to slide in there all of the time with those notes they send home asking for $5 here, $10 there what seems like every gosh darn week!) add up very, VERY fast.

I believe that every child is entitled to a more than decent education, no child should ever go hungry, and no child should suffer emotional distress because s/he is watching another child get something that they cannot have in school, where children are supposed to be focusing on education, not getting their feelings hurt because some of the other kids have a juicebox and s/he doesn't (schools should not even be supporting this). Schools go on and on and on about equality and fairness....but what I described above is not fair or equal at all.

And just for the record, I live on a very strict budget as so so many families do. I do my best to clip coupons and buy in bulk for the kids and I get all of my teaching supplies at the dollar store. Sometimes I get lucky and find extra supplies (like newspapers, magazines, paper, half-used notebooks, etc.) tossed out in recycling bins and things like that.

I just wanted to let all of the parents out there know that even though I don't have children of my own, I understand how much of a dent school costs can put into your wallet and I'm really trying to help make the load a little lighter for as many families as I can.

So, does ANYONE agree that schools are asking (and sometimes even demanding!) way too much? And that the costs are just outrageous? I'd love some feedback on this!!!!

Answer
I totally agree. You just summed up all the major points.

Answer
Im 15 too, but my school isnt a private school, but the kids in my high school all do that to, so its not the only school that does it. Besides that i love that your into music, i love music, im learning how to be a drummer. its always good to follow your heart and dont let anyone ever tell you different. And if you like this girl try to socilize with her like...go up to her and say hi and introduce yourself. Then you could say i heard you like john mayer and i like his music too and i just wanted to know what songs you liked of his and whats your favorite one of his. The main part is be yourself and make her laugh, i love when guys make me laugh, it lets me know they have humor and are funny. or if you dont want to be a funny guy, then you could just ask her what things she likes to do, her intrests or if she plays any sports.
Then just be yourself and just talk to her like a friend.

Answer
I feel the same way, I'm 16 and in high school. Everyone is interested in the wrong things and I already know all my plans for the future. Its safe to say you are on a completely different(higher) level of maturity than other kids. I wouldn't even worry about your ex, if she left you for the "experience", she sounds like a slut. And, even if the girl you like is with someone else, at least try to get to know her.

1up backpack for middle school?

LadyK

My sister is going to her 1st year of middle school and she just bought a 1up backpack like the one from the link

http://www.wearyourbeer.com/nintendo-mario-bros-mushroom-backpack-p-8184.html

Actually i bought it for her cuz she liked me. My mother says its more like kindergarden packpack and that kids will make fun of her and laugh at such a lame backpack, So now my little sister is really worried. Do you think the backpack is too lame for middle school?

Answer
This depends on her and her school. Old school, retro video game stuff is pretty popular in a lot of places. Unfortunately, middle school/jr.high kids are the WORST about stuff like this. They are trying so hard to be mature that they sometimes will be critical of stuff like that where older high school kids in the same community would think it was pretty sweet. If she likes it she should take it. I think it's sweet!

Where's the cheapest place to get kids backpacks that won't fall apart before the end of the school year?

Q. My son is starting Kindergarten this fall... Every backpack he likes feels cheap and like it won't last. I like these because they're nice quality and I can get a matching lunchbag... http://www.hannaandersson.com/Style.asp?from=SRCH&styleid=32505&simg=32505_S19&mwc=S19&styleRef=32505kb but I don't really want to spend that much and my son wants Spiderman or Star Wars anyway. You know anywhere to get a cheap one with a matching lunch bag that will last? Or a set SO cheap that it won't matter if it falls apart and I have to replace it?

Answer
We've had problems with every backpack we've gotten our kids, so unless we want to go for the $75-and-up variety, we decided to just "go with it".

Last summer, A.C.Moore had backpacks on sale for $5 each. Sure, they were cheaply made, and didn't look like they were made to last, but we bought 2 for each kid, with the intention of using both during the year. We hate to think of backpacks as "disposable", but if they're not going to make it through the year anyway, why spend the extra money?

With three school-aged kids, we spent $30, and only 2 of them didn't make it through the year, so we still have 4 to start off next year.

As they get older (the oldest is starting 6th grade this year), we'll get them better backpacks.

Q. My husband has Chrones disease. He was diagnosed roughly 5 years ago. He's never had any issues until 3 wks ago. He's now in the hospital for the 2nd time in so many weeks. His bowels are blocked and they are going to do surgery. They said that they'll do everything then can in order to prevent a colostomy bag, but it depends on how much of the bowel will have to be taken out. I've never seen a bag. What are they like? Is your husband having his entire colon removed? if so, that's called a total colectomy and he'd be given an ileostomy. If they are taking only a part of his colon out, then it would be called a colectomy.

I can still do whatever I want with my ostomy. Noone knows you have one unless you tell them. You can have kids with the bag. Basically, it's a piece of plastic tupperware (on the wafer) that attaches to a shake n bake bag as I jokingly call it. They come in all different shapes and sizes. The smaller closed end pouches are used for those intimate moments. (Convatec can give you free samples).

Convatec is one of the companies that makes ostomy appliances. The newer ones are even low profile. Your husband can call them for a free month's supply at 1-800-422-8811 M-F (EST) 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (hrs. may have changed). When new products come out, you can request samples to try. I run an ostomy support group & have dealt w/Convatec for 21 yrs. They have awesome customer support. I've cld to speak w/an ET nurse when I had problems. You can even call yourself to ask for a brochure explaining what an ostomy is, how to deal with surgery, etc.

I learned about ostomies via the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America educational meetings. They had a panel discussion with surgeons & actual ppl who had ostomy surgeries. CCFA also has a support group where i even met crohnies like myself & we swapped info on the best places to purchase the appliances, which GI is the best, etc.

The Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) has a website where you can learn more about IBD, the medical terms that go with it, the latest treatments, surgery, diet, exercise, coping skills, and you can find a local support group to meet others who have IBD. Family & friends are encouraged to attend as well to educate themselves.

They have a toll free number manned by professionals M-F 9 am - 5 pm (EST) where you can call & ask questions.
They also have a live online chat where you can speak to a rep. from CCFA.

I am still the same person as I was before my surgery, except that my "plumbing" has been rearranged. Medication failed after 2 yrs. plus I couldn't eat due to severe pain in my stomach &severe fistulas and abcesses in my large colon so surgery was necessary for me so I could get my life back and return to school.

I provided a link to Convatec so you can see what the appliances look like as well as a link to an ostomy support group newsletter that I get. feel free to email me if you have any more questions. hope this helps.

PS: I've also included the site to the united ostomy association of america. you can call them to see if there is a chapter near you where you can request a visitor via the phone or hospital. it's www.uoaa.org.

What tennis racket should i get?

ColleenNin

Ive never really played before competively. Usually just on free days in gym. But im joining the tennis team which startes in like 3 weeks and I havent asked the coach if he'll be providing them or if we have to buy them or what ever. Its a high school team by the way.
Also i tend to hit alittle hard. Like when we did badmitton, volleyball, and pickleball i had to sort of linger near the back so i wouldnt hit it out of bounds. Not so much with badmitton cause i liked to spike it. HEHEHEHE
Does this mean that i should get a heavier one?
I also dont want any of those short handled ones for like little kids. Im in high school, that would be an imbarresment.
So if you could just like tell me what brand i should get and maybe what version in that brand and all that . Is a cover worth getting if i have a sports bag , not even really sure if the tennis racket will fit in my bag but what ever. Hey , if you had to choose would you rather get a tennis racket cover or a tennis sports bag thats shaped kinda like the a tennis racket.
I also dont have a 100 dollors to spend on a racket Thanks by

Answer
I use Donnay rackets, although they may be a little pricey (with my sponsorship I get them 45% off) they have a humongous variety that would be good for any player. Their new XENEcore technology prevents tennis elbow and gives more feel to the racket with the filled (not hollow) frame. I use the X-P Dual. I just checked the Donnay website and the rackets just got a price drop.

But for a more inexpensive adult sized racket, Adidas, Prince, Head, Dunlop, Yonex, and Wilson will have many options to fit your needs under $100. I suggest going to your local tennis store, Sports Authority, Model's, Dick's, Walmart , Midwestsports.com or Amazon.com and looking at their adult size rackets.

Also you may be able to find used rackets on Amazon, Ebay or Craigslist these rackets are top of the line with little or no damage at all, the only difference is someone used it a while. On these websties you may also find new adult sized rackets for less money.

In response to your second question, a tennis racket bag would be the better choice for you. The racket bag protects the racket better from heat or cold and will store all of your tennis needs.

On midwestsports.com they have a HUGE rackets on sale section I think you should check it out.
http://www.midwestsports.com/tennis-racquet-specials/c/32/
THey also have a big bag sale too.
http://www.midwestsports.com/sale-tennis-bags/c/500109/

And finally some things to look for when buying a racket.
Grip Size - not all handles feel the same you will probably need a 4 1/4 - 4 3/8 grip (just guessing)
Lenth - Adult racket length should be 27 inches.
Strings - Some rackets you buy online or in store will not come strung make sure to purchase a string.
For your level I recommend Babolat addiction which is a very cheap and good string. Make sure there is a shop in your area the does stringing.
Check midwestsports.com for cheap strings they have them.

I wish you good luck with your tennis and your racket hunting!

Why can't I sell stuff at school?

little_emp

I asked my cosmotology teacher if for the hair show we're holding, I could sell crafts that I make (like makeup bags, etc.) -- and she said she'd ask the principal but probably not because the income would be going to me.

I know the issue isn't with LAW, because the school can sell cupcakes, food, clothes, flowers, and whatever they want, and they have. The issue with school is that they're almost like a RUNNING ENTERPRISE. They don't want anything sold unless the income is going to the SCHOOL, or if it is for a charity. All they care about is getting as much money as they can (we even opened up a school store yesterday).

I thought school was a place for us to LEARN, and GROW, and develop SKILLS. I obviously can't go buy a store, and sell things, or even go online and sell things. I wanted to use this opportunity to SHOW people what I have to sell, and learn some business skills because it'd be easier to learn in school because it's a closed environment, and it's an easy way to gain experience and to get the word out. I mean in school we can sell pizza, or raffles, and whatnot because all the income is school gained (us students just do all the work for free). It isn't that selling isn't allowed, it's just they want the income to themselves.

I don't know.. I'm not asking for much. I just asked if I could have a small DESK to just have my things on display for things to buy. I doubt I need a permit -- the school sure as hell doesn't bother to get permits on bake sales, or random cupcake sales they have.

Answer
This happened at my school, at my school you get into loads of trouble if you are caught 'selling'
at my school; first; people were selling just odd chocolate bars, 50p a chocolate bar.. but then people realised big money could be brought in and I know a boy who makes around £50 ($81) a week from selling chocolate, the school see this as 'scamming' kids out of money, and instead of buying healthy food and giving money to the school they are buying chocolate and fizzy drinks from kids that have got it from a discount shop for about 10p (16cents) from that people found new idea's since so many people were selling chocolate and it moved onto cigarettes and people were stealing cigarettes from people; I actually saw a boy take £20 ($32) worth of cigarettes out of someones bag without hesitation and I asked him how much he sold them for and he sold them for £30 ($48) and people are buying ONE cigarettes for £3 ($5) which is shocking, but that's how much kids are charging.

I know yours is a different kind of thing but that was an example; but for my school, it a health and safety issue; people buying chocolate from discount shops and cigarettes which they have no idea where they have came from, but like you said; if the money isn't going to the school then they want nothing to do with it.

Back to school shopping list?

And I have 2 messenger bags
I might be a little spoiled, but I have two other sisters that share my clothes, they don't have as much as me, but they hate shopping. So my mom buys me all these clothes to share.
Abby, I agree I have too many thongs, but I don't like to wear old ones.and I have so many clothes because I DONT repeat outfits within two months! Lol(: and my sisters borrow my clothes!

Answer
Honey, you are 14. You do not need 66 thongs/v strings. *reading further down the list* And you want more of them? No. Why on earth would a high school freshman need so many thongs?
If you already have 5 lunchboxes, and 2 messengers, why do you need more bags?
And you don't need any more clothes. Like, for life. What you bought yesterday is about as much stuff as I buy in total through the year, and I'm your age. Give stuff away. For instance, keep one lunchbox and say bye-bye to the rest, and do you really need 17 skirts? It seems like you have enough clothing to wear each item only once every two months.

What are some cute, funny ways two lovers could first meet?

New York C

In my story, a young man and a young woman cross paths and end up falling in love (don't worry, this isn't the main plot line). It's a comedy-drama, so I want them to meet in a quirky, original, funny kind of way.

If it helps, the young man is from the inner city and a high school dropout, and the girl is very artistic and intelligent, a bit of an eccentric, and lives in a small town.

Answer
She is staying in a hotel room perhaps to attend an art class. He comes in (using the room key) to bring in her bags (since she was carrying her art supplies and a small tote and pocketbook). It took him awhile to get to her because the hotel is busy, and instead of just sitting and waiting she gets in the shower. She comes marching out, without a towel. (I don't know how she or he would react.) But perhaps he offers her a towel before she starts screaming. 'Uh the maids are behind I brought fresh towels' he looks up into her face and her soaking wet body. Her shock wears off and she starts screaming maybe throwing stuff as she ducks behind the bar, he throws her a towel and tries to back out of the room while catching the expensive items she's throwing. 'stop throwing stuff. I didn't see anything.'
'YOU DIDN"T SEE ANYTHING?'
'Okay just your legs and arms and hair.'
'Liar, Pig.'
'okay so I saw more but it isn't like you're ugly'
frustrated noise, more stuff comes flying at his head maybe she even knocks him out with the lamp.

what to include in an emergency bag for school?

Trinity

I am a seventh grader, and I have always got something I need at school and I don't have it. I don't wear makeup (lazy and don't feel like wearing it), I hate lotion, and I am very quirky. I am always being asked for things and then I don't have them for myself when I really need them. can anybody give me a list of things that I should put into a makeup case and keep in my locked locker for school when I need it? thanks!

Answer
pens/pencils
saftey pins
bandaids
asprin and anti acid (if the school allows you to have it)
about $1.50 in coins
pads or tampons (if you need them)
a spare pair of undies (for the same reason)
a fingernail file
a small pair of scissors (cuticle scissors or embroidery scissors)
an energy bar (for when you miss meals)
a spare ponytail holder and a few bobby pins

What kind of backpacks/bags do most High School kids use?

I'm going into High School and im not totally shure what kind of bag or backpack I would use? Cause I see most girls use something like a beach bag, i'm not really shure what those would be called.
Please help.

Answer
A few idea's:
Okay so most girls at my high school use big bags like you said because we have to bring our gym clothes, after school clothes (sports), lunches, ect.
So i bring on the days i have no after school activites and no gym class my vera bradley bookbag. I carry it and then when i go to lunch my lunch is in it, along with my normal things in my purse.

Another idea would be an across the chest bag. I have a coach one. They are around 100 dollars and are very in. you can put just the few things you need need in it for the day if you do not want to bring a purse. A lot of girls not just at school but in magazines ect. are using these.

Finally there is the big bag. Victoria Secrets Pink is a brand we all use. I have a Marc Jacobs one i caught on sale. American Eagle, Hollister, or Forever 21 will have one also that is trendy.

As far as the backpacks go we all use Northface. They are 100 to 200 dollars and are very in. you can order them online or get them from a sporting goods store like Dick's ect.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

Didn't The Stay At Home Teach How To?

Noble

Polish furniture, sort laundry, iron, fold clothes, cooK, mop, make beds, vacuum, sew a button or a seam, wash dishes, empty trash, dust, bake, sweep, water plants, and wash your drawz.
Daddy taught me how to drive.

Everything on the list that many men want, but there's noone available to teach it. My father never one day came home to an empty pot or a dirty house. That lady was not a lazy freeloader.

And I will teach it to my children the same way her mother taught it to her.

Answer
Take a day off work. All those things mentioned I can teach any kid in one day. So, what are you going to teach on the second day? Let's face it, machines do all the heavy labor today, there isn't nothing to teach other than how to push a button, move a plastic bag, or fill a container with water. Hardly a day's worth of teaching.

ADD Simply; guess what? people who work also cook their dinner. So, there is no loss of teaching their. Basic sewing CAN be taught in a day, because it was taught to me and I have used it to make clothing repairs for more than 3 decades...from that one day's teachings. Nobody makes their own cloths today, so they really don't need to know more than basic repair. All the children of working parents (especially 2 parents) will leave the home with 99% of the same basic skills as you think a stay at home mother teaches. It is not a fulltime job today (especially once the kids start school). Daycare of kids not yet in school is about the only thing you might say is needed long-term. The rest can, AND IS, done around working. And, daycare can be provided by others if needed. I am not saying that nobody benefits (especially young children) from a housewife/husband, but I am saying it is not a fulltime job, nor as hard as so many woman want to make it out to be (because 99% of what they do can be done by working mothers and fathers....while working).

I Rarely Eat Lunch... What Are Some Things That Are Grab & Go But Just Enough?

Stefy

I Don't eat much to be honest, but I try to eat at least my 3 meals.

I usually eat breakfast either cereal, yogurt, or drink those oatmeal drink thingies.

But for lunch I usually just have water, just when I'm in my everyday schedule. What are some good granola bars or something that will fill me, I get decently full easily. Or any other things [Not much of a sandwich person]

Thank You

Answer
1. Trail mix
For a great midmorning or afternoon energy boost, toss a bag of homemade trail mix into your bag before you leave home. Combine a variety of dry cold cereal with dried fruit and nuts in single-serving-size containers. To get the most nutrition you can from this snack, registered dietitian Choose cereal that's high in fibre or whole grains. It's also important to remember that while nuts can be good for you, you should take notice of the calorie count.

2. Raw veggies and fresh fruit These old standbys may be common-sense choices, but often they are passed up for easy-access convenience snacks. To ensure fruits and vegetables are always at the top of your snack list, clean and prepare a day or two's worth of produce when you get home from the store. Keep snack-size containers or bags of carrot sticks, celery sticks, red pepper slices and broccoli florets in your fridge, ready for the grabbing.

When it comes to fruit, apples and pears are great grab-and-go options. But if you'd like a little more variety, make a fruit salad with interesting fruits like mango, papaya and berries that you can eat while in the car or at work or school.

Add a medium-size low-fat skim or soy latté, and you'll get a nice dose of calcium to go with your nutrient-rich snack. It's an excellent replacement for the usual coffee and doughnut, which provide little more than empty carbs.

3. Smoothies If you have yogurt, soy or skim milk and some fresh fruit on hand you'll always be ready to whip up a smoothie that you can drink on the way to work. Add one tablespoon (15 mL) of wheat germ or ground flaxseed to your drink. These ingredients give your smoothie the added value of nutrients such as fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc and folate.

4. One slice of whole-grain bread with peanut butter(1 tbsp/15 mL). Talk about beating your hunger. This is one snack that should easily quiet those rumblings in your stomach until your next meal. This traditional treat has a low glycemic index and will give you a nice hit of protein and fibre, making it a well-rounded snack.

5. Energy bar If you just cannot find the time to plan your snacks in advance, energy bars can be a good option -- if you know what to look for. Look for ones that are not loaded with calories and are low in saturated fat, low in trans fats. It is important to make sure the bar you choose fits into your eating style, so it should be higher in carbs if you are looking for an energy boost or higher in protein if you want something more sustaining.

Choose a bar with 14 to 18 grams of protein and no more than 200 to 250 calories. Look for bars that have only 20 to 25 grams of carbohydrates. Anything with more than that is designed for people who endure extended workouts.

One final note when looking for a good energy bar snack is to be cautious not to buy meal-replacement bars. Read package labels carefully to avoid getting more calories than you need.

⢠Plan your snacks for the day, just as you plan for meals.
⢠Be careful not to overconsume. snacks should be approximately 150 calories for women and 200 for men.
⢠Try to include fruit, vegetables and calcium-rich foods (such as milk, yogurt or almonds), and always include some form of carbohydrate (low glycemic index) and protein.

How to solve my back problem?

school bags too heavy

school bags too heavy image

DB

Okay so i am 15 this year. I constantly suffer from back pain mainly in my lower back and around my shoulders. I also carry a very very very heavy school bag everyday. My school's timetable has gotten really hectic this year. I start school at 6am and end around 5 or 6pm. Its insane. Now, my back hurts like crazy and because of that i cant walk straight. Even after taking 2 pain killers, it still hurts. Help? What should I do?

Answer
You have pinched muscles in your back causing the pains. To get rid of the pains you have to free up the muscles and here's how to free them up:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

What binder would be best for seven classes?

Brianna

Ok, so I'll be a sophomore in high school in September and since my bag was heavy last year, this year I just want to carry one binder big enough for all my classes. I want to get one big enough to to hold the notes, but not too big as to where I can't fit it into my bag. Also, do they sell white Sharpie Markers anywhere offline? I know they sell them, but I've only seen them online. I need it for decoration purposes.

Answer
One binder seems like it would need to be huge for seven classes. You might consider this alternative: two binders, one for your classes before lunch and one for your classes after lunch. It works for most students, since you'll normally have time at lunch to switch out. As for most office supplies, you can normally find what you need at Target, Wal-mart or Office Max.

How do I get them to do their homework without yelling at them?

Sweetlemon

I have four kids; Boy 8, girl 6, boy 4, boy 4. The younger ones are twins. The elder two give me the toughest of times, not that I am not part of the circus. Need tips and advice.

Answer
Sit down with them when it's time to do it. All of you sit together at the table. Look at the stuff in their back packs together. Put out some snacks and drinks, and then just sit there and watch them do it. It's tempting and sometimes even seems necessary to be up and about in the house taking care of other things. But, honestly, this is most important. When you take the time to sit there with them, then they'll think that homework must be that important. I never did this with my kids, and my kids always avoided homework and did a crappy job when they did do it. Then I watched a friend. I noticed that after her kids got home from school, she would sit at the table with them, they'd go through their bags together. They'd discuss the homework and she would sit there and watch them until they were done. Everything else waited. Her kids did very well throughout their school years. Wish I'd have known that simple trick early on....

Why are my kids such a spoiled little snotheads?

Figgitfock

I have a 7 year old boy and a 6 year old girl who are whining, spiteful, ugly little snotheads who never do anything their parents tell them to do. I've done everything to get them under control. I've tried everything from taking away privileges, to putting them in the juvenile center, to punishing them within one inch of their worthless lives. Behavior has not changed one bit.

I'm running out of ideas. If I don't find a solution soon then I might need to kick them out of the house.
Well...maybe not everything duh which is why I'm asking. :)

Answer
well, first of all you need to show them that you are in contorl..
Second you need to do is take away stuff that the like not necessarily what they play with..
If a friend invites them to a birthday party and they want to go, say no.
At this age they should have chores, like helping with the dishes, sorting the laundry, help folding, putting clothes away, etc.. They might not do it exactly the way you want it, but at least you are showing them respondbility.. Then if I needs to be redone, wait until the are out side, or at school. This way you don't hurt there feeling, and the will feel more confident that they did something....
Get a chore whell this is fun and it stops the aruguing..
If you are in a public place like resturant, and they start acting up, put everyone's meal in a doggy bag and go home. Say to your guest your sorry, but my kids don't know how to behave..
Make sure that your not giving them too much sugars.. Rather say apple, or orange.
Sweet things should be a treat...
If they are acting up, during school time, when they come home, it's homework, dinner, bath, bedtime. Which means no tv, computer, outside, nothing... If they don't eat, oh well still send them to bed. They will learn that tomorrow they better eat or they will be hungry....
Make sure that your "NO" means "NO" !!!
And when they talk to you, listen, and when they yell at you, send them to their rooms, and tell them when they are ready to come out and talk to you with respect then you will listen...
It's your house. Make them know this. Yes they live there and they are your kids, but at the same time, they need to respect what they have...
Keep them busy, go to your local rec center, and register them in a class for the summer. This way they will run their little legs off and it will give you a break...
And for every cus word, make a jar, make them pay 25 cents...
This comes out of their allowence, and luch money that you give them.... Otherwise, they have to brown bag their luch....
And if they don't like what you have, like I said, they will be hungry for dinner.
When they get up in the moring, make your bed, put your laundry in the basket, clean up their room. Then come down for breakfast... etc.... If not they will be hungry for luch.....
Tell them breakfast ends at 8 or 9 am and if they don't make it, it's not on you. Kitchen is closed, to snacks, water, want something to drink etc... Get a child's alarm on the refigator and a lock.....
Make it a boot camp mom's house, soon they will hate it and get the point....
There are many things your can do... Just stick to your guns.
Also set a special time aside during the day (if they been good) and read to them, do an arts and crafts project etc....
At dinner time spend time with them on asking how there day went, and listen to them.... Show interest... Give them praise where praise is due.
And if they been good all week, take them out for luch, dinner, ice cream, etc.... But if they act up once, cancle it, and go to plan "B", you at the same time need to find a babysitter and have some personal time to yourself...... This way you can relax and get the tlc that you need. The rules should apply when your not there and make sure the babysitter is aware of your arragements.... Otherwise, it's not going to happen overnight, but they are still young now, and if you don't go to these extree measures now it might be too late....Good luck....I hope this helps.....

Do you recommend a messenger bag or a regular back pack?

I saw kids carry messenger bags in middle school but are they considered "cool" in High School? And which one has more room, which one is safer for my back?

Answer
A regular backpack is better for your back because it distributes the weight evenly on your shoulders. If your bag is typically very heavy a regular backpack is better.

Who knows a low price messenger bag that is available in target and in walmart?

Kitty

My daugther wants a messenger bag, not a back pack. Who knows a messenger bag available in target and in walmart stores. Please hurry. Oh... and some pictures please. I live in near Foothill blvd. Rancho Cucamonga

Answer
There are a lot in stock now that fall is here and kids are going back to school. I would def take a quick run down to your local walmart or target and see what they have to offer. I am sure you can get a good deal on one now since there are sales all over the place. Good luck

sew the bag, and add any patterns/designs with stencils & spraypaint

How can online stores selling fakes legally operate?

33mutti

How is it possible that some online stores sell designer purses that they claim to be 100%authentic even if they are "knock-offs"? Isn't that false advertising? Why does not anyone shut them down? Isn't there a "police" for that? I naivly bought a purse from on online store who claimed to have the real deal, but after reading up on them I am not sure anymore. I did pay a pretty penny which I why I thought that's the price for the real deal minus the overhead. There is a mailing address on their website, which I think is pretty bold. Is there any way to find out if my purse is real?

Thanks a bunch!

Answer
That's a very interesting question and very difficult to answer. The sale of illegal counterfeits i s difficult to prosecute because these website are always off shore operations, and they are subjected to different laws. There isn't international co-operation insofar as web business is concerned. If the factory is based in one place, the website in another, the shipper somewhere else and the purchaser in a different country then whose law followed? The maker? The seller? the buyer? This is where international law enforcement has problems as the laws vary widely from country to country. In the US buying isn't illegal, but shipping them overseas is, so many of these bags will be stopped at the borders. The US is cracking down on known manufacturers of these goods.

How is it possible? These fakers don't see what they are doing as wrong. Sadly in China; they simply don't care that they are doing something that's wrong everywhere else in the world. One of YA most notorious counterfeit sellers/spammers saw him/herself as doing a good deed, a public service, thinking that he/she was offering the covetous with the object of their desires at a fraction of the price, not comprehending that they were doing something illegal.

They use words like "mirror image" and "authentic replicas" so they make it sound like what they are doing is less distasteful. Authentic replica makes it sound like the original designer gave their okay to these knock offs, when that's simply not true. Many designers have lower priced lines, but they will never advertise their low end lines as authentic replicas.

Because much of this is overseas, it's difficult to prosecute these people. Interpol is working with many different countries to stop the trade of counterfeits, but as long as people want something expensive without being willing to pay full price, then these people will operate from where ever they can.

Luxury goods are expensive and they are exclusive. They aren't cheap, and never will be. They aren't meant to be owned by ordinary people or high school students or suburban housewives. They are meant to be owned and affordable to the very rich. If everyone had them or if they were widely available, they would no longer be exclusive luxury items. They'd be like Gap sweatshirts. No one knocks off Gap sweatshirts.

To protect yourself: If it seems too good to be true, it is. No one sells things at lower than wholesale, no one sells at a cost less than what it takes to make something. Most luxury goods are sold through the stores affiliated with the label so the purchaser knows they are getting something authentic.

The sellers of fakes feed off of covetousness and want and desire. They prey on the insecurities. They hope that people are willing to do anything for something they can't really afford. My personal take is: Yes that designer purse is gorgeous and would look great with my new dress, and I would love to have it, but I don't have the money and never will so I simply forget about it. But many don't, many think that a purse will make them popular or more chic or any number of things...and these fake sellers prey on that.

I always submit fake sites to the real place. LV has a webform for sending links to fake sellers, so does Tiffany, so does Chanel. Many sites have e-mail contacts. Some site will send a thank you form letter, some don't. One place sent a personalized thank you to me. They do what they can when they find these places, again because many of theses counterfeiters are international, they can only do so much.

The only solution is to not only boycott fakes, but for everyone to change their priorities in fashion. That designer bag doesn't make you a better person, nor does it make you look better, it does not dress up cheap outfits nor does it make you more fashionable. There are plenty of non status label handbags, sunglasses, that are affordable and far nicer looking. And with the money you didn't spend on that one item, you can buy other items you will enjoy far more than that purse.

I'm going to be a junior and my school has a pretty bland uniform; black skirt and grey shirt. I don't want a normal jansport backpack this year. I don't know if anyone watches Pretty Little Liars but I really like Aria's style of backpack:

Is my wife giving too much attention to our son?

Ryo

Hi, recently I got married to a woman who already has a 7 years old kid.
I found out that she is still wiping his butt, giving him a shower, carrying his school bag to school (sometime to the classroom) brushing his teeth and choosing his clothes (yes he cannot choose his clothes by himself).
I am trying to change all those habit as I think that it is a bit too much, but I am not sure if I am wrong or not.
Oh and he also refused a few times to walk and she ended up carrying him until home.... But I could change that bad habit.

Answer
Yeah, that's beyond being a mamma's boy. She's not doing the kid any favors by coddling him way too much. The butt wiping and the showering...just a big fat NO! If the boy doesn't know how to wipe his own butt or shower himself at age 7, then that's mom's fault. Talk to her. Gently. This is her son, and before you came along, I'm sure it was just her and her boy. Tell her there's a man in the house now. They are not alone, and she is not alone. Tell her to let you be part of his life, and that includes man-ing the boy up a little. Do guy things.
