John M

I go to high school and I have access to a microwave but not a fridge or freezer. What are some ideas as to what I could bring to school for lunch that would fill me up, provide me with energy for the rest of the day, but at the same time be healthy?

Answer
Apples and peanut butter
Crazy delicious, super healthy and very filling. You can pack the apples whole or cut them before school. Apply the PB as you like.

Granola bars
There are dozens of these on the market.

Wheat bread
(instead of white) if you make a sandwich or put a little honey on it.

Apple sauce

Chicken
(steamed or grilled)
(make it before hand, then pack it) you can eat it 'as is' just microwave it. If temperature is an issue before you eat it, buy a re-usable ice pack. They are a few bucks and last for years and years.

Brown rice
Make it before (Uncle Ben's takes under 10-minutes). Put some soy or teriyaki sauce on it for added flavor.

Hummus
It may sound weird or funky, but its just mashed up beans called chick peas. Its really healthy and quite filling. It goes well with apples, veggies or crackers. If you eat rice with hummus the two combine to form protein as you digest it! Chemically speaking, its like eating a steak or chicken!

what to put in a girl's school bag?

school bags dubai

Smokeless

I'm going to 9th grade next month so what are the stuff i should put u know like books, pencils, notebooks and other girly things like perfume, makeup, and other random things. I'm going to a private school in Dubai so it may be hard for some of you but please i want a LONG list thx. ;)

Answer
Great. I just finished ninth grade.
Does your school provide notebooks? I don't recommend using school notebooks. In a private school the students are probably going to be from wealthy families. And remember that Dubai gets really hot.
With that in mind, I think we can start.
Heat. Deodorants are important, and that's something you'll want to save in your P.E. bag, not necessarily in your school bag. Have a small hairbrush and a compact with you everywhere. Be REALLY careful about your make-up choice, since sweat can smudge it entirely.
Hmm... have cute notebooks, but you don't need a million books to carry around everywhere, now, do you? Get one that is with around five segments (like those with colourful segments and each segment has its own colour and whatever) and make sure it's squared, so that you can use it for math and english and whatnot. Make sure its cover is a base colour. It can be pink, blu, red, purple, whatever, or colourful. BUT nothing with icons or pictures. If you're desperate, you can decorate it with stickers and pictures which is cool. But no Rebecca Black or Justin Bieber. That's just...that.
Have a blue, black, and red ink pen just in case there are insistant teachers. Also get a pack of the thin tipped stabilo colour pens. They work really well for titles.
You can have a bottle of perfume, but make sure it's not too strong, too sweet, or too anything, but fresh. Like the Donna Karan Delicious apple series.
Female pads. one or two, all the time.
Maybe something to change into in case of anything.
Hmm... have an mp3 or ipod, iphone, galaxy, whichever. Something that plays music. It's a life saver at times, but don't get too dependent on those to the extent where you become anti social. If you have one of the apple products with the apps, the apps and your development in games like tiny wings, angry birds, and doodle jump can occasionallly become chat material. Also instant access to internet on your fingertips is a fun thing to have.
You might want and additional tiny notebook from which you can tear out small pages and inscribe notes subtly during a lesson. Its even better if its squared like your notebook so the teachers won't notice.
A digital camera! Light and useful. Snap unforgettable moments of your life and save them forever. Very sweet. Also useful when reminiscing with your friends. And material to post on facebook.
A hairband. You never know when you might need it. One, or three. Always a good thing to have back ups.
Snacks! A day won't go without those. Small things to keep your stomach from going crazy, like cookies and crackers and such.
Cool shades. Protects you from the annoying, harmful rays of sunlight, right? ;)
Speaking of sunlight... I haven't lived in Dubai, but I lived in Turkey. And one thing is you get tanned. OR RED. If you are the type that gets red, dont get too frantic over sun screen, but it wouldn't harm to use it. But warning; don't get frantic.
A nice pair of trainers for P.E., sweatpants and a shirt. One of those towel-y wristbands that help wipe away the sweat. Which is their entire purpose but some wear it for fashion, too.
Hmm...when talking about music devices I mentioned it briefly but, YOUR PHONE. Keep it in your bag. Doesn't always have to be in your pocket, but a must-be in you bag at least.
A waterbottle if your school doesn't have plastic cups. Unbelievable harsh truth; ours didn't. But then again, you won't need to get out of class and you can drink water freely whenever you wish. Which is a good thing in a country where you can practicaly go dehydrated.
Cash. Just in case. And an ID of some sort, any sort, as long as it's an ID.
Your text books is a custom...
Oh! I talked about pens, but I never mentioned pencils and all that.
Have a compass (as in the thing that helps you draw circles and not the north south east west direction tool), at least 15cm ruler, eraser, mechanical and/or normal pencil, sharpener and/or pencil led, and a highlighter can be useful too. The bag-like roundish cloth pencilcases with nothing additional inside are the best way to store these things.
Have an agenda or a homework diary or whatever you wish to call it (maybe the school will provide one for you) where you can write your homework and mark days and stuff.
A lip gloss. Lightly pink, but nothing too extravagant. Remember you're in school, and a freshman. Freshmans are usually really excited and some try to show off or be cool. Don't do that. It will just get people peeved at you.
It's good to be prepared, but not too prepared and jumpy. And it's okay to make mistakes. The more natural you are, the better.
And with that I come to the end of my preaching :P Have fun in High School! :D

Could you help me with an ending line for my graduation speech?

Q. I guess what I'm trying to say is even though youâll miss opportunities and make mistakes, thatâs what the whole meaning of High School is. And even though weâre wearing these goofy mortarboards today. I encourage you, seniors, that from time to time youâll let your minds be bold, and wear sombreros! Need an ending line here.

I'm not looking for anyone to edit my conclusion. I just need an ending that is humorous and a good way to end.

Answer
We may be screaming like little kids
In Walmart wanting a bag of chips
in a while
But that's just our emotions being released
As we realise we are adults
But in our parents eyes
The children they just had
that grew up
And now pays for not their own chips
But mistakes

Can makeup cause acne even if face is wash thoroughly?

Queen D

I go to school from 8-3 wearing makeup something stay after school til 5. When I go home if I manage to wash my face clean with oatmeal. Will it at least prevent acne? I can not not wear makeup

Answer
Cosmetics can contribute to acne, break-outs, clogged pores, blackheads, etc. but as long as you are using products that don't clog pores and you're replacing old make-up, keeping everything clean, sanitizing brushes and applicators and using blot paper vs. repeatedly applying more makeup throughout the day-- you'll be fine. PLUS, make-up will protect your skin from the elements and keep it smooth.

You probably already know this, but using cosmetics for longer than a couple/few months can/will cause acne and/or infection. Cleaning brushes and applicators on a regular basis is really key. Sterilizing is important. (placing applicators and/or brushes on the top rack of the dishwasher will sanitize them).

Eye make-up (mascaras, eye liners, shadows, etc.) really have to be tossed and replaced every couple of months. The chance of getting a bacterial infection in the eye is great with eye make-up.

It's fairly important that you find concealer, tinted oil-free (water-based) moisturizer, blot powder, etc. that has the words:
Non Comedigenic --which means that it won't clog pores. If you're using a BB-cream, make sure it says 'Non Comedigenic'.

Look for blotting paper:
http://pics1.ds-static.com/prodimg/68807/300.jpg

http://thebeautystop.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/show_image_in_imgtag1.jpg

Every cosmetic company makes them and it' a great way to blot-off the excess oil throughout the day without continuously applying powder or more make-up. A secret tip is to grab a few of these from a public restroom (no, I'm not kidding)
http://www.grainger.com/images/products/250x250/Toilet-Seat-Cover-8AWX9_AS01.JPG

and cut them into blot paper-sized pieces. Keep them in your wallet or bag. The material used for toilet seat covers is almost identical to blot papers and it works really well for blotting excess oil (for FREE).

Using loose powder, Bare Minerals-type make-up (several companies manufacture that type of make-up, like Revlon, Maybelline, Rimmel, L'Oreal, MaxFactor.. and available at any mart store like Target, Walmart, any drug store or beauty supply), is better for the skin than thick, creamy foundation because it won't clog pores.

http://blog.planetbeauty.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Bare-Minerals.jpg

http://thecosview.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Neutrogena-Mineral-Sheers-Loose-Powder-Foundation.jpg

It's applied with a brush and it's very sheer but covers imperfections well.

Sometimes I wash my face in the middle of the day because I have oily skin and it's so easy to just fluff-on a little Bare Minerals and go after quickly washing my face. I carry these:

http://www.luckyvitamin.com/images/product/xlarge/119377.jpg
Tote-able individual-sized face wash sheets to freshen-up. They're great.

But I use blot papers, too. Your skin will be fine. Washing it with a Cataphyll-type of face wash is best for skin because it's PH balanced and isn't too harsh.

Where is all the Dark Knight merchandise being sold?

auirhksdjf

I knew for sure when I went to Walmart today for school supplies I would find at least a folder or something with the Joker on it! BUT I DIDN'T! Wtf? WTF, I ASK YOU!? But of course they have friggen Miley Cyrus's face plastered over everything! From backpacks to pencils and beyond! UGH!

Ok i know I sound like a whiny little kid but c'mon! Even posters are hard to come by! The only place I've seen one is at blockbuster and it wasn't even that great, but I bought it anyway. heh heh

Is anyone else having trouble finding The Dark Knight stuff? Is it getting sold out or is it just not being made? I haven't even seen that many commercials for the movie!

P.S I've already tried hottopic, and they only had like two shirts (for guys) . >_<

Answer
I know! I have been looking for 'The Dark Knight' Joker merchandise at Wal-Mart and I didn't find a freakin' thing! Yeah, there was Hannah Montana everything.... It is easier for me to find stuff online. Try amazon.com and search for the Joker. I found a lot of Joker shirts, posters, costumes, and action figures. I went on Hot Topic's website and found more Joker stuff.
Good luck!

Past the B

1. Does it flow well?
2. It's just an excerpt and not the beginning, but do you have comments/likes/dislikes, especially about my writing style?

"Anyway, man, who you coming with to the party?"

"Don't ask stupid questions." I gathered my books and shoved them into my backpack, then started down a cobbled path that led to the parking lot. "Ariana, obviously."

"You might've broken up," he said, his voice indignant.

"I'm sure she'd have told you seeing as she's, well, your sister." I didn't bother asking who he'd invited, because it was obvious. After all, he only had one girlfriend at the moment.

As if on cue, Ariana emerged out of the school building through the large double doors opposite the parking lot, an arm hooked on Raven's. But when Raven spotted Lukas behind me, she screamed, shoved Ariana away, and bounded towards him like a puppy. She slammed into him with so much force, I was sure they were both going to fall and crack their heads on the tarred ground. But Lukas only staggered back a step and embraced her.

I, on the other hand, didn't get such a reaction from my own girlfriend. Ariana just smiled. It was a beautiful smile that parted her glistening lips to reveal straight rows of white teeth, and it brought a glimmer to her eyes, which were slightly veiled by her bangs. It had all the magic her brother's grin had. Well, almost.

I smiled back and hugged her.

"I missed you," she said.

"Not as much as I missed you." She had a way of turning me into a wet cheese ball. "You'll be at the party, right?"

"Yeah. Don't be late."

"I wouldn't dream of it," I said, leaning in to kiss her. But of course Lukas had to grab a handful of my tee shirt and pull me away the moment just before my lips met Ariana's.

"Dude, some respect. That's my sister," he said, shaking his head. "I'd rather not see what you two are capable of doing." He shivered, as if the very thought made his skin crawl.

"You've gotâ"

Lukas cut me off. "We've something we gotta do, anyway. Let's go." He turned to face Raven. "See ya later."

"But you promised you'd drive me home today," said Raven, a wistful tone in her voice as she slid her fingertips down Lukas's abs.

"Yeah, but there's something me and Derek gotta do, babe."

"Can't he do it alone?" She nodded towards me.

"Nah. He needs me."

"What exactly do you have to do?" demanded Raven.

Even I had no idea. I had a good memory and would've remembered if there was, but I said nothing. Maybe he just didn't want to be with Raven. Again.

Lukas flashed a crooked impish grin. "It's a surprise."

She frowned. "But I've been waiting for you for hours!"

"Ariana will take you home," Lukas said evenly. "I was gonna borrow her car, anyway. Mine's still being serviced."

Raven smiled at him, but that didn't warm her dark eyes. Then she glared at me like she was praying to the demons of hell to set me on fire. "Derek, when you're done stealing my boyfriend, please return him to me."

I smirked. "It's not my fault that you can't satisfy him."

Ariana giggled, but Raven narrowed her eyes to slits. Back off, the look said. However, I had no intention of conceding as it wasn't my fault that Derek almost always chose to hang out with me over her. I supposed that made her, well, jealous.

Lukas grabbed my arm at the wrist with one hand, then he caressed Raven's cheek with the other before he kissed her full on the lips. I tried to wrench my hand back and walk away, but his grip was too firm. I turned away and looked at Ariana instead.

"Does he always need to hold your hand when he's making out?" said Ariana, stifling a laugh.

"You don't know the half of it."

When he was done with her, he dragged me towards the entrance to the school building. I waved Ariana goodbye and made sure she and Raven were out of earshot before I spoke.

"Why did you make me wait if you were planning on driving home with Raven?"

Lukas didn't look at me. "I just told her I would, but I wasn't going to."

He shrugged.

"Okay." There was something he wasn't telling me, but I had no desire to drag explanations out of him. "So where exactly are we going?"

"Miss Rose's office."

The health teacher's office? "Why?"

"For the party." He turned to look at me as we walked through the doors and into the hallway. That impish grin once again split his lips. "We gotta steal us some condoms."

Answer
I like how the writing flows; it's something between Haulden Caulfield's narrative and Greg's from "Me, and Earl, and the Dying Girl". I also like how you're trying to distinguish the characters through their accents; it's a nice detail.

What I don't really like is the party theme. It makes me cringe every time; it's always the same scene: someone's house, parents are gone, underage drinking, something bad happening, cops arrive, party over, what a mess in the yard.

We didn't go to house parties like you see in movies. Our idea of "fun" (graduated h.s. in 2009 so I'm not that old) in high school and college was: we would go to the club, dance a lot and drink some (18+), or we would hang out at a friend's house for BBQ and music, or have a picnic in the forest and prepare BBQ and play voleyball/ badminton, or go to a public pool in town to swim, flirt and get a tan, or go to some lake at the edge of the town to swim/ play sports/ BBQ (again); we really like bbq. Or go to the mountains/ sea side together for a few days, sleep in tents or cheap villas; didn't matter where we slept since we didn't go there to stay within four walls of a 5-star hotel. It didn't matter if it was someone's birthday, a normal weekend, summer holiday; it was fun because the we were fun and even if some of us had just met new people under these circumstances, we'd all come out of this experience as good friends with awesome things to remember. Hopefully this rambling will give you some ideas xD

I also can't really identify with most of the teenage books and movies that have overused the stereotypical features of students, how they're split into groups like nerds, cheerleaders, popular kids blah blah. You haven't mentioned any in the excerpt, but since there's a party following up, I'm sensing there will be.

However, I don't really have a say in it, since the entire high school experience is different for everyone (or for every writer/director), so it may appeal to some crowds.

Overall, I like your delivery and descriptions. I can't really tell what the bigger picture of this novel could be, but I hope that once you've finished writing (or once you've published it), you'll tell us more about it. :)

What are some good school paper ideas?

For my english class I have to write an entertaining story in fist person point of view that could really happen to someone. I have to write it like it really happened to me. Anyone have any good ideas?

Answer
Thank you for taking my advice. (I suggested re-asking it on Books&Authors!)
Okay, I finally thought of something!
Story 1:
What if you (The main character) were testing a friend. And (GOSSIPING!) O... M... G...
And you were gossiping about a friend. then, you're testing back, and only AFTER do you realize you've sent it to the person you were gossiping about!
Story 2:
You're going on a school trip (By bus) when... BAM! Traffic! You're stuck there for hours! HOURS! All the cars are at a standstill, then, without warning, a kid has an asthma attack! The kid's forgotten his inhaler. Everyone's backpacks are back at the school. No one has a spare! While panic strikes all the students, YOU take action. You rush out of the bus and go to other cars and frantically ask for an inhaler, slamming your fist on the wind-shield. (It should be raining! YEAH!) Then, in the end, when the kid is like almost unconsious, a kind person gives you an inhaler, and you bring it back and save the kid!

I really like the second one. Suspenseful. I love suspense! :)

Everytime I walk by my neighbor's house, their 3 cats throw balls of kitty litter at me. It gets stuck in my hair and in my backpack, and kids at school have started to call me names like "Poop Head". It is so destressing. What should I do?

Answer
poor little poop head...lol... OK... next time you walk by bring some ammunition of your own... water balloons would work great as would a water gun... but if would like to make peace with these naughty kitty's.... smear catnip all over yourself and let them mew over you instead..... ( personally I would go with the water balloons)...Lol...

What backpack do i use for my freshman year of highschool?

Nikkie

im going into my freshman yaer and i dont know what kind of backpack the kids use like regular ones or the cute sholder ones that u get from like hollister ? what do most people (girls) use ? :)

Answer
well, I'm going into my junior year of high school and most people use those expensive Dakine backpacks, it really depends on your budget Some girls just use on of those oversize shoulder bags, but for the first week when you're getting all your books I recommend using a normal back pack after that use whatever(:

Good luck in High School!(:

I am trying to find a song to use in an essay I"m writing for school. I want a song that has lyrics dealing with the subject of day-to-day life, and how everyone always just seems so stupid and clueless. (Yeah, it's horrible, but hey...it's the truth.) I looked for hours, and by simply searching by the music of bands I like, I found nothing but songs about love/breakups, etc. (I listen to bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, Paramore, blah, blah, blah. :D)

Answer
Lily Allen has a lot of great songs.

her songs LND and Everything's Just Wonderful.

LND:
Riding through the city on my bike all day
Cause the filth took away my licence
It doesn't get me down and I feel ok
Cause the sights that I'm seeing are priceless

Everything seems to look as it should
But I wonder what goes on behind doors
A fella looking dapper, and he's sittin with a slapper
Then I see it's a pimp and his crack whore

You might laugh you might frown
Walkin' round London town

Chorus
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ?
Would I wanna be anywhere else
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why ?
Would I wanna be anywhere else

When you look with your eyes
Everything seems nice
But if you look twice
you can see it's all lies

There was a little old lady, who was walkin down the road
She was struggling with bags from Tesco
There were people from the city havin lunch in the park
I believe that is called al fresco
Then a kid came along to offer a hand

But before she had time to accept it
hits her over the head, doesn't care if she's dead
Cause he's got all her jewellery and wallet

You might laugh you might frown
walkin round London town

Chorus
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why?
Would I wanna be anywhere else
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why?
Would I wanna be anywhere else

When you look with your eyes
Everything seems nice
But if you look twice
you can see it's all lies

Life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life
Life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life, yeah that's city life

Chorus
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why?
Would I wanna be anywhere else
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why?
Would I wanna be anywhere else

Chorus
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why?
Would I wanna be anywhere else
Sun is in the sky oh why oh why?
Would I wanna be anywhere else

When you look with your eyes
Everything seems nice
But if you look twice
You can see it's all lies

When you look with your eyes
Everything seems nice
But if you look twice
You can see its all lies .

"Everything's Just Wonderful"

Do you think, everything, everyone, is going mental,
It seems to me that it's spiraling outta control and it's inevitable,
Now don't you think,
This time is yours, this time is mine,
It's temperamental,
It seems to me, we're on all fours,
Crawling on our knees,
Someone help us please

Oh Jesus Christ almighty,
Do I feel alright? No not slightly,
I wanna get a flat I know I can't afford it,
It's just the bureaucrats who won't give me a mortgage,
Well it's very funny cos I got your fucking money,
And I'm never gonna get it just because of my bad credit
Oh well I guess I mustn't grumble,
I suppose that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

[Chorus]
Oh yes, I'm fine,
Everything's just wonderful,
I'm having the time of my life.

Don't you want something else,
Something new, than what we've got here,
And don't you feel it's all the same,
Some sick game and it's not insincere,
I wish I could change the ways of the world,
Make it a nice place
Until that day, I guess we stay,
Doing what we do
Screwing who we screw

Why can't I sleep at night,
Don't say it's gonna be alright,
I wanna be able to eat spaghetti bolognaise,
and not feel bad about it for days and days and days.
In the magazines they talk about weight loss,
If I buy those jeans I can look like Kate Moss,
Oh no it's not the life I chose,
But I guess that's the way that things go,

[Chorus x2]

Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba [etc.]

Hope this helpes a little bit,
Lily

I used to be popular, and now I'm not and I'm unpopular? :l?

Q. You know facebook's got that new timeline thing?
Well I used it to scroll back down to 2010 when I was at my highest peak of popularity; I had wallposts everday from people I barely knew with '<3', I had mates talking to me all the time, I used to like peope's status and have about 50+ like's on my status's! I Went out with mates, smoked weed, people saw me as cool and fun, I played out like everyday aswell;

Then.
I started concentrating on school work, actually doing the work for once! (This was at the end of my GCSE's and I had done almost zero work throughout the year so suddenly had to catch up about March-May 2011);
My popularity dropped like a bag of cow shit.
I did, however, get some decent grades for my GCSE's, but ended up not going out and losing friends.

-Then when I started to get phonecalls from friends asking me to come out, I either ignored the phone as it rang, or answered and came up with an excuse not to go out; because I got into the habit of staying in and felt really anxious and scared of going back out!
Today, if you look on my facebook for 2012 it's like... empty. I don't ever even use it, and when I do I literally get ZERO likes on ANYTHING. I'm a ghost. All the people using it seem to be about the age I was when I was extremely popular;
And Now, it's april 2012, i've been doing A-LEVELS since last september; and I absaloutely work my ass of all the time; never go out; never see anyone; became a nerd and hang out with the nerds.
:(
What can I do to get myself popular once again?:(

Answer
Mate, seriously - In the end, if you want to get somewhere in life - don't be a "popular kid" I see so many adults who were probably "popular" and now they work in tesco :L

What type of little mini bag/purse can I bring to school?

designer school bags for kids

designer school bags for kids image
Q. I heard girls bring little purses. Should I bring my louis vuitton purse? Since its real, what will people think of me ? I'm pretty rich so I have a ton of wallets, purses, etc. I'm going to the 8th grade and I've always been a private schooler so I never got to bring this stuff to school. Any advice? Pictures would be a plus. Thanks.

Answer
I am in private school too and have never even set foot inside a public school. I am also going into 8th grade (:

Just continue to bring your regular purses. I would probably bring a Coach or Dooney & Bourke purse the first day because those are less expensive than a Louis Vuitton.

If you are labeled as a "rich b*tch" (thats what the public schoolers call us around my area), just relax: It's not the end of the world, just make it clear that you are NO b*tch.

I would bring a Coach Tote than a Juicy Couture Purse or a D&B Purse. Keep the Chanel, LV, Gucci, and Prada until you have seen what other girls bring to school. Just like I wouldn't wear Miss Sixty's, Sevens, True Religion, Dolce & Gabanna, DKNY, or Rock & Republic jeans until you knew what other girls wore.

Good Luck (:
-Catherine

p.s. Some other advice: Don't make a big deal that you have designer names because a lot of kids probably do (at least they do at my school, even though it is all-girls private), and people will hate you if you brag.

Why do people laugh at people who wear designer clothes?

Taraaa(<3)

I don't wear designer clothes often, but whenever I do, people ridicule me and whisper as I walk by. Once, I wore a Juicy Couture t-shirt to school, and kids teased me. I saw some questions about designer bags, and people were being pretty harsh.

My question is: why do people laugh at that kind of thing?
Sorry, I asked another question like this earlier.

Answer
everyone has their own opinion when it comes to design. fashion especially seems to lend itself to these love/hate reactions. this may be because fashion is widely considered personal for many people, moreso than other facets of design.

it seems like a lot of people feel free to judge designer clothing so harshly because they see its popularity as a lazy way to be fashionable, which is true in some ways. others are simply upset by the high prices and the overuse of logos/initials/etc. designer products also get a bad reputation because of all of the poorly-made fakes out there.

my personal opinion is that there is nothing really wrong with designer clothing. it is popular for a reason. however, no one should judge an item, positively or negatively, based solely on who made it. if your Juicy shirt just says "Juicy Couture" on it, people may have been teasing you because you seemed like a walking advertisement. but if it fits well, is a nice color, and has interesting graphics rather than just the brand name, then they have no reason to judge.

What is the hottest backpack for school this year?

kids backpacks for school jansport
on School Backpack For Kids - smart reviews on cool stuff.
kids backpacks for school jansport image
Q. My kids, 13 and 9, are very much into brand names and labels (not a good thing). I was just wondering what everyone here would consider "the hottest" schoolbag to go back to school with.

Answer
I would recommend Jansport. Not only that they're durable, but they are "in" for almost 4 years. However, they cost around $40 each, but their company is famous and they have a lifetime warranty. I own one and it's not bad. Even though the price is high, in the long run, it's worth it and the kids will love it. Oh, and about what brandinono said, Louis Vuitton handbags alone cost well over $1000...no wonder why only PRIVATE school girls carry them.

What are good girly teenage backpack brands?

aby

I need a well known backpack brand website. The back packs have to be for godly teenagers. More than one would be nice. And website link. 10 points for including 5+ brands of backpacks and the website. Thanks!!!!!

Answer
Jansport, for sure. They have hundreds of patterns to choose from, and a good 70% of kids at my school use this brand, definitely a "godly" brand, haha. > http://www.jansport.com/js_product_thumb.php?cid=1

Roxy, I find this brand of back packs, the most cute and girly. Amazing quality too. > http://www.roxy.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=3176247

Billabong, another brand that I really like. > http://www.billabonggirls-usa.com/product-cat/189/backpacks

O'Neil, includes tote bags, but you can scroll to right to see the backpacks > http://www.oneill.com/#/women/americacanada/collection/women/product/all/bags/

L.L. Bean > http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/508666?nav=ln-508666

Dakine, not the most popular, but will definitely last a while. > http://www.dakine.com/w/packs/street-packs/girls#color=9

There are many more brands out there for backpacks. & Well known athletic brands have pretty nice bags too, not the most "girly" though (Puma, Nike, Adidas, Columbia, etc.)

xtra9009

we're inviting 15-25 school kids (not sure yet).
My MIL is saying I have to give a lunch too- if yes, do I have to have lunch for the parents too?
I am having a science show and renting a place (plus the decorations and goodie bags) so this would REALLY up the cost.

Thanks.

Answer
For a party for adults, I would assume that lunch would be served. Just put "chips and cake will be served" or "cake will be served" in small print somewhere on the invite, and you'll be fine. Kids that young tend to eat earlier anyway.

Can someone help me choose Party Themes and Ideas?

LiJDivine

I'm 16 years old. And I've asked my mother if I could have a small "Party Like" celebration in March on the 9th or 10th. Well, she also said that she couldn't not spend no more than $30. I understand that. The only people that are gonna be there is,

~My 9 year old Niece
~My 11 year old Nephew
~My 6 year old Nephew
~My 16 year old Best Friend.

Now my best friend and I are Juniors in High School. We've been friends since little kids. I just wanted my niece and my best friend to have girly type fun. But I didn't want to leave the boys out. SO my questions are...

1)What is a Good Party Theme or something fun we can all have together?
2)What are some good food ideas or Drinks treats or something that we can get?
3)What are some good Crafts we can make?(Something Using Construction Paper and glue or something.)
4)What are some good ideas for Mature Goodie Bags or little Take Home Bags?

Also, what is it called when you wrap up tissue paper and wrap it like a cone.
And you add small things or candy inside. And you wrap the top w/ a bow.

Please remeber that I can only spend between $25-$30
How should I make the Invitations?
I'm only doing this so I can cheer up my mother. She's been sick but she's getting plenty of rest. She'll be good as new in the morning.

Answer
1)mabe a chartoon theme like micky mouse or wennie the pooh
2) just do a small buffet with crisps cakes and sausage rolls n things like dat
3)try finding oregami instructions on da web and make hand made invotations
4)the oregami u make n some chocolates

How can I become a really great tennis player?

school bags for kids online image
Q. I'm 14 and in 8th grade and it's he end ofthe school year but in 9th grade I want to be on the tennis team !!! The school I'm going to is the number 1 best in the state so it'll be hard to get on!:( any tips? I just joined a gym so I'll be running etc and it also has tennis courts so I'll play with my older brother and get lessons once and while... What else? I neeeeeeeeed to make this team!!!!!!!!

Answer
If you want to move up the ladder of tennis' many different levels of skill, then the quickest way to do that is to take lessons. Here are links to three [USA] tennis-teaching organizations. There should be a function in the web sites below for plugging in a city, state, zip code, etc to find a teaching pro near you :-)
http://www.uspta.org/
http://www.ptrtennis.org/
http://www.mtmca.com/

If you aren't already a highly-ranked tournament player, in my opinion, you should be spending most of your time hitting tennis balls rather than working out at a gym, running, stuff like that. Not that fitness is bad, it's great! But it doesn't help you get better at hitting tennis balls. Understand? Spend as much time as you can on the court, hitting.

Try to get out and hit tennis balls five or six days a week. If you only play or practice two or three days a week, it's very difficult to make progress and improve. Dedicated, work & play on a daily basis is what counts. Of course, good coaching and enthusiasm count, too. If your technique is lousy and you practice a lot, all you're doing is ingraining bad technique. Yuck :-( Not good.

Call or email other kids and play prartice sets. Have fun with it!! If things get dull, work on your behind-the-back shots, 'tweeners, catching the ball on your strings, fun stuff like that. Don't spend the whole day with it, lol.

If your strokes are not yet *thoroughly* learned in your head, I recommend waiting a couple of years before you play your first "serious," sanctioned USTA-tournament where rankings are on the line. You can still play practice sets or practice matches. A good teaching pro will be able to give you advice on whether or not you're ready for tournaments.

A very famous coach from the Spartak Academy in Russia said that it's a big mistake to play tournaments before a player's technique is thoroughly learned. Read about her in "The Talent Code" below.

Here are some sources of online tennis information. Some things are free, others cost money

FAR more important than winning is your **sportsmanship.**

Why is sportsmanship so important? Because if you use gamesmanship, cheating, intimidation, etc to win a match, it's a lot like stealing. Don't expect people to forget what you did, because they won't.

To avoid these problems, read: **"The Code."** It tells you how to deport yourself in matches that have no officials. If you always play by The Code, you will stay out of trouble and be able to make friends with other players, coaches, etc who also value good sportsmanship :-) Unfortunately, there are some people who couldn't care less about it. It's a mixed bag, and nobody's perfect in this department!

Along these lines, the screaming that some of the top players do is a problem, because it is, in fact, gamesmanship, and IMHO, the ITF, ATP, WTA, USTA etc etc etc ought to have banned it entirely many years ago.

Get yourself a copy of "Rules of Tennis" from http://www.ustashop.com/

Click on "Books" in the left-hand margin. When the Books page comes up, you can order yourself a copy with a credit card. "Rules of Tennis" costs $2.95 plus shipping.

Best of luck, hope you have some fun along the way as you struggle to become the best player you can be :-)

I used to play soccer when I was in high school and have always been active and on a low fat diet, but they don't seem to go away. I have a tiny waist but always have to buy my pants two sizes bigger just to fit in the lower half. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Answer
The following healthy living recommendations will help you if youâre trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get an online, desktop, or cell phone diet and fitness calculator. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

Here are two articles on how to break through a weight loss plateau:
http://www.webmd.com/content/article/86/99147.htm
http://www.webmd.com/content/pages/18/102117.htm

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Avoid âHigh Glycemic Load Carbsâ (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is âDietary Guidelines for Americans 2005â. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com

be_my_gumb

it will be october 31st, a school day so no kids should be in the park, but obviously halloween..so you never know about the kids. is it tacky? what are some general rules for going about this in a park? AND! (last question, promise) what would be great gift bags for everyone showing up (or do you not do that)...i'm horrible at planning a wedding.

Answer
Wedding receptions at parks is a great idea. I've been to a few. Just make sure the park isn't reserved for someone else so you know you will have a place to hold your reception. If not, then make reservations. You might have to pay, but it is WAY cheaper than a reception center.

I like the trick-or-treat bags idea, if that's really something you want to do.

What are good end of the basketball season gifts?

Like I was thinking maybe trophies, but thats not very cool. Last year we did basketball shorts with our number on them and our team logo. The year before that we did Warm Up jerseys, then we did duffle bags. I was thinking we could have everyone on the team sign each induvigual teammates basketball and I was thinking of other stuff too. Any ideas

Answer
Trophies and a lil pizza party. And also mattering on what yr you coach, I would type up a paper and tell kids what drills and things they need to do to make them selves better and make the next team. I wish my coach would have done that in middle school...

Hi, I'm from Malaysia. I want to try solo traveling. I've planned to travel to Perth next year. Is there any good tips that I can use, for a first timer like me? Any good tourism spot in Perth that I should look into?

Thanks!

Answer
Nice one. Traveling is good education and it's fun.
You stay in backpacker hostels, budget hotels, camping grounds or caravan sites if you like, and if you fancy a bit of couchsurfing you can stay in somebody's home.
If you want to try a backpacker hostel before you travel, find one close to home and you'll soon see how it works and you'll meet people who are visiting Malaysia.
Here's one in KL. Price is in UK pounds but it will be in Rinngits or $US when you access the site from Malaysia....see links below.
1 UK pound = 5 Rinngits
http://www.hostelbookers.com/property/index.cfm?fuseaction=propertyDynamic.overview&intpropertyID=31465&strArrivalDate=2012-01-07&intNights=2........
For a cool holiday try the Cameron Highlands. Tanah Rata is a beautiful place to stay at and has some very good tracks for walking and cycling..
I had three excellent years in Malaysia and loved every day of it.
http://www.hostels.com/tanah-rata/malaysia?source=hostelscombroadmatch&kid=00032466&aid=3&gclid=CNyIr5zcl60CFYQLfAodnWyeoQ

Sometimes you stay in railway stations or bus stations or airports (not always by choice but because of delays or inconvenient times of the transport), or you can take an overnight train or bus and save the cost of accommodation for the night but not too often. Stay healthy.
Hostels and budget hotels....see Hostelworld, Hostelz, com and Hostelbookers
http://www.hostelbookers.com/?gclid=CN-lâ¦
Couchsurfing
http://www.couchsurfing.org/
To get work, remember all countries have work rules and if you are on a visa it'll likely be a tourist visa not a working visa so take care.
Australia has very strict work rules.

You make friends on the way round so just go off by yourself and you'll have the freedom to join up with other people when you want.
Meet new folks in the hostels, go shopping together, share the food and cook a beautiful fusion meal or whatever you can do.

For money...traveling isn't cheap even staying in hostels so spend wisely.
I ate very well in South Africa and you can in South America and most of Asia but not all places in the world are cheap so be careful choosing a destination.
Australia will take around 250 -300 Rinngits a day off you for basic living...hostel and food. Then you have trains and buses and some flights for the long bits.
Long haul flights need to be booked 3-4 months in advance to get the cheapest fare so you get lots of time for reading about a place and getting any necessary visas and medical stuff sorted.
See your government website for travel advice, visa requirements etc.
http://www.kln.gov.my/web/guest/home
Cheap tickets...look at prices for months ahead and you'll find the cheapest period so then you'll have a time scale for booking a flight on that route for when you want to go.
Travelocity and Expedia are good and look at airlines' own sites as well.

Perth is a pleasant city and is quite cosmopolitan. I have some relatives living there. My daughter traveled there alone from the UK and had a very nice time and then backpacked around Australia for a month and had two weeks in the Cook Islands.
She got home safe and well, just as expected. Take normal care as you would in your own towns and cities and you'll be OK.

what does it mean to be willowy exactly?

Answer
OK here goes - don't get mad now. You did ask for it.

Past - Totally pink bedroom. 250 stuffed animals on the bed. Each one had an adorable name and you made your father kiss each one of them good night every night (after reading Cinderella five times!) so you could avoid going to sleep. A precocious child, you used to wear your favorite Disney Princess costumes to pre school. Carried a Barbie lunchbox to first grade and by third grade graduated to Bratz. HUGE Full House fan. Wanted to be just like DJ when you grew up. Knew all the words to the score of Pocahontas. Sang Colors of the Wind at your Elementary School Graduation. Your mother cried.

Present - Redecorated your bedroom - now 60's retro with shag carpeting and the essential lava lamp and bead curtain on the door. Threw hissies every night for a month until you got your own phone and computer hookup in your bedroom. And then you talked the folks into the cell phone - properly bling covered just like Paris's. Middle school Princess O Prep. Never go anywhere without at least one Lisi Harrison book in your backpack. Know all the disses by heart and use them liberally to the amusement of your own clique. Madly in love with this kid in your Social Studies class who looks just like Zac Efron. He is like so hot! Favorite stores- The Gap and Old Navy. Your mother named you Claire after the Molly Ringwald character in The Breakfast Club - her absolute favorite movie ever. Thinking about getting a tongue piercing. They look so cool. Spent the summer on this boring vacation with your parents in Disneyworld listening to your two younger sibs fight. When you come home, you are heartbroken to learn that the guy in your Social Studies class has moved to California with his parents. Your grades suffer severely due to the depression.

Future - After college, you move to New York and pursue a career in the fashion industry - landing your dream job as Calvin Klein's personal assistant. What the job entails is going to Starbucks twice a day to get Calvin a double mocha latte - skim milk with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a blueberry muffin. He only eats the tops. You feed the bottoms to the pigeons in Central Park on your way home to your fabulous studio apartment after work. You become his muse and his 2012 collection is called The Claire Look. Pretty in Pink. At Fashion Week, you happen to run into the real Zac Efron who is now working as a house painter in upstate NY (all former child stars end up as house painters). You fall madly in love and move to a little town just outside Buffalo. Your first winter there, it snows 17 feet and you lose Zac when he slips off a ladder while clearing snow off the roof and dies in the resulting avalanche. Luckily he is insured. You bu

Ineed2know

I have visited many areas throughout the Rocky mountain range and have my own personal favorites. However, I would really like input from a variety of sources to help plan a very special trip for my father. He has always wanted to experience "The West", but after 55 years he has still never made it to the majestic Rocky Mountains. My goal is to take him on one of the most memorable backpacking trips of his life. I would love any ideas that I could get.

Answer
You need to come to my state and go to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. There are many trails and all are from easy to very hard. Great camping and you can catch your dinner every night with a telescoping fishing pole and a brass mepps spinner. My kids are 14 and 11 and I have taken them on a backpacking trip to this and other areas of my state and we just love it. You may also want to try the Seven Devils area. This trail overlooks Hells Canyon the deepest canyon in the United States. By far thought the Frank Church Wildernesas is the best. If you need more help you can e mail me at steelhead fifty three zero eight at yahoo dot com. Good luck Jeff From Idaho

Does anyone know a good place to backpack with kids near Los Angeles?

Looking for an overnight hike with my 7 year old. Prefer a hike with a camping area withing 2 miles of the trail head. Some attraction at the campsite would be great -- a stream, lake, interesting rock formations, etc. Thanks.

Answer
I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for in Angeles National Forest. http://www.totalescape.com/active/campstuff/NF/angeles.html#lake
The Sheep Mountain Wilderness in that area is popular:

What should I have in my Locker and School Bag?

emma

I need help on what I should keep in my school bag and what I should keep in my locker. I have a locker and a school bag and I want to use them both, but I don't know how to separate what goes in my locker and what goes in my bag. Can you help?

Answer
I never used my locker a whole lot except for books that I wasn't using at the moment or on that day.
Regardless, here's what I would suggest for your locker:
A mirror (magnetic one that you can hang on your locker door)
Extra paper and pencils
Lunch (if you take your lunch to school)
Extra gym clothes (if you take gym)
Jacket

For your school bag - are you going to just put it in your locker when you get to school or are you going to take it to all of your classes?
If you are planning to take your bag to your classes, here's what you should have:
Books, assignments, pencils, extra paper, highlighters
Hand sanitizer
Pocket mirror
Chap stick/lip balm
Pad/tampon just in case (you can also keep this in your locker if you'd prefer)
Water bottle

Be careful of carrying lotion in a bag or purse... has a tendency to spill and ruin all of your things. Also be careful with drinks such as soda cans that can sometimes pop open and leak.

My friend (8th grader) has a Louis Vuitton bag and I wanted one too. Right now, I have $600 allowance. Would I be able to buy a Louis Vuitton School bag?
I need the exsact price

Answer
yes, you have the money. the cheapest one is around 500.

but let me remind you that there are a lot of fake ones out there. and you can tell by the leather and the print.
but if you know your friend well and know that she is well-off then i dont think it is fake.

and also, it depends on what kind of bag you are getting.

there are ones that go up to 4000. and the limited edition ones are in the 6 digit range.

if you want the exact price, you can look on because im not sure which one you are looking for. sry.

www.louisvuitton.com

or

www.eluxury.com

these are the two sites you can trust on for GENUINE bags.
LV is moving their own site to eluxury, so notice how they have a tab on top just for their bags!

gd luck.

Does anyone have ideas for an alternative to a Party Favor bag?

fancy school bags for kids image
Q. My 5 yr old daughters bday is coming up. Party favor bags are fun, and deemed necessary for proper party ettiquete. However they are expensive, and basically filled with usless crap. I am wondering if there is an alternative? Perhaps something small and with more worth then candy or cheap crappy toys, that is fairly inexpensive that I can give out as a parting gift?
Thanks

Answer
I totally agree. I call those goody bags full of cheap plastic junk "bags of crap". We can all do without another bag 'o crap. Most of it I throw away anyway within a day of my kids bringing them home. I have done books as well; trickier with 5's as most of them aren't reading yet, but I've bought boxed sets from the Scholastic book orders the schools send home and given those books out; they end up being about $2 each. I will give a book with a fancy lollipop (hard to describe but it's on a 10" stick with a heart or flower shaped candy piece at the end. That way there's still the candy element but not so much that it's overkill. With 5's you need to assume a parent will read the book; go with something with mass appeal like Strawberry Shortcake. Maybe if you go the book route you can consider those paint with water books.

I've also given out seasonally appropriate t-shirts; one of my daughter's birthday is in May and I have given out patriotic tshirts (in stores for Memorial Day, continue wearing all summer/4th of July.) These shirts are easy to find at Target for $5; a little less at Kohls if you use a coupon. Again I package with a lolipop. I have seen them on kids all summer. Other friends who feel the same way have given out hula hoops, those skip-it things (like a jumprope that attaches to your ankle and has a ball at the end), and a stuffed fairy. There are a lot of perfectly cute toys out there in the $5 range; too cheap to give as a gift but perfect as a "party favor" which is what you are giving instead of a bag of crap.

Five year olds might not "get it" right away as to why they aren't getting a plastic bag filled with yo-yos that don't work, teeny paper pads they don't use, etc. but it's fine to explain you are giving "one nice thing" instead of a bunch of "little stuff your mom just throws out".

What do I need to know about going to private school?

tigurrr14

I mean like how to wear the uniforms, what people do to show off (public school its like clothes, purses, hair, ect.), what the teachers are like, ect. Also its a Catholic school.

Answer
Well I've been at a private school all my life so I can probably help you out.

Uniforms:
-If you have to wear a polo shirt, only button one button unless your wearing a different color tank underneath, in which case, don't button any buttons
-HEM YOUR QUILT/SKIRT!! If you don't you will be a loser for life

Showing Off:
-Usually they just wear their hair in a ponytail with a ribbon or straight and long, nothing too fancy
-Since they are in uniform, so all out with the labels on free-dress days (:
-Most don't carry purses, but the tote bags are usually designer

Teachers:
-The teachers are more dedicated and more strict at private schools
-DONT slack off in class! The class sizes are small and unless you have my Latin teacher (very doubtful), than you can't get away with it
-Most kids suck up to teachers by getting good grades and acting interested in their class

Good Luck (:

That'sINTE

I want to start a foundation that gives donated backpacks to kids who are underprivledged and don't have enough money to buy one. How do I start it?

Answer
gather some friends up and just make a lemonade stand or something like that to raise a little money. also have family and friends contribute. after you have raised some money talk to the principles of schools with lower-class children attending about using the money you raised to buy backpacks and school supplies to give to the kids.

it is very sweet you want to do this! GOOD LUCK!

How do I not get caught selling candy at my school?

Awsomeo

I want to start selling candy at my school to make a couple extra bucks. But how do I not get caught? Like where do i hide them? I can't do it in my locker because there is a teacher right next to my locker and will instantly find out. So where else can I sell them?

Answer
Just keep them in your backpack all the time until you sell. I sold gum when I was in school and did great until someone dimed on me. I use to sell at lunchtime all the time and sometimes between classes. I think you can get around the rules if you get paid online and deliver the candy in school. Get the candy at the dollar store for a good deal or at WAL-mart. Try not to get greedy to stay under their radar. Also try the bus on the way to school. Drivers could care less as long as the bus isn't moving. Don't deal with change.

I made better money when I started wholeselling to the other candy sellers in the school. I got the candy really cheap and sold it to them for less than they could buy it. Then I was selling 10 five packs a day of gum and making as much as the sellers were making with their profit.

I think kids should be able to sell stuff in school anyway. I learned a hell of a lot about small business doing it. They let the kids sell the overpriced candy bars to raise money for field trips and the school only gets about a quarter for each sale.
