English (Response Essay)
Top dog/Underdog

Booth and Link are brothers who have had a difficult childhood. When they were just thirteen and sixteen, their mom packed her bags and left. The day that she was leaving, Booth and Link were on their way to school. Booth had a feeling that something was going on, so he decided to cut school. Booth said, ââShe was putting her stuff in bags, she had all them nice suitcases but she was putting her stuff in bagsâ. Two years after their mom left, their dad did too. They talked about how their dad had nice clothes. Booth said âWhat he didnât spend on booze he spent on women and what he didnât spend on them two he spent on clothesâ.
Lincoln and Boothâs relationship with their parents really did not exist. In my opinion they did not have any relationship with their parents. Both of their parents left when the boys were just teenagers. When their mother left, she gave five hundred-dollar bills rolled up and tied up tight in one of her nylon stockings to Booth. When their dad left he gave Lincoln ten fifties in a handerkerchief and told him to hide it. It seems like both parents thought by giving their kids money; it would make them feel better that their parents were leaving for good. As Booth and Lincoln grew up, from time to time they would talk about their past. They thought of many reasons of why their parents left them. Booth thought maybe they had been scheming together all along. They had left separately but will arrive at the same place at the same time, and renewed their wedding vows, maybe they got another family. Lincoln thought maybe they had two new boys. By their mom and dad leaving while they were just kids, I believe that it scared them for life. They had self âesteem problems and they were both child like. They never had a real chance to be teenagers. They had to learn how to be responsible in a short amount o time. How could someoneâs parents leave without giving their children a real explanation?
A seedily furnished rooming house room. A bed, reclining chair, a small wooden chair, and some other stuff but not much else, was where both Booth and Lincoln lived. Although it was Boothâs apartment, Lincoln brought home the money and paid all of the bills. Booth was Lincolnâs little brother, so it just seems like Lincoln was always looking out for Booth and taking care of him. Their relationship was weird. Rocky I would say Booth once slept with Lincoln ex wife cookie. While reading the play, I discovered that it seemed like Booth always wanted what Lincoln had. Booth came across as if he was jealous of him. I feel like although Booth and Lincoln had suffered from the abandonment of their parents, Lincoln had dealt with it better. He had a better head on his shoulders. Booth knew that and that was why at the end of everything, he would then shoot his brother. He knew that he could never feel that he was somebody until his brother was dead. As Booth shots Lincoln, Lincoln slumps forward. After talking about how he saved his inheritances and Lincoln didnât. I think he realized what he done and sat aside Lincoln body, hugging him close and began to cry. We all do things that many regret but there is a difference between being envious and being jealous. Jealousy will leave you angry but being envious will lead you to kill.
Someone could ask themselves what if? But does asking yourself âWhat ifâ really make differences? What if it was all meant to be and growing up in a certain neighbor didnât matter. What if what happens is our destiny. What if we canât control what happens, because everything is already planned out for us. What if Booth and Lincoln grew up with their parents still around and Booth still shot Lincoln. Would environment vs. nature still play a part?

This is fine:

What are things we dont think about when we see a veteran?

angela s

I need to know some good things to write about them for a essay .
Titled :Why we should honor our veterans

So I need some Ideas why we should honor our veterans and somethings about them we dont think about when we see a veterian and what we could do to better reconize them for it

Thanks for reading and hopefully giving me and answer thanks

Ps: Please make sence and clearly detail it as this is mostlikely going in my story and this book is going national to judges thanks so much

Answer
As a veteran myself- When I first signed up for the Navy we always have in the back of our minds that we will be fine, we will come home when our time is up and in the meantime see a lot of the world and party, We were young and not much else was on our minds,
We dont realize that as one person in the military we have no real idea what the impact that we will make on ourself, or on the rest of our country, Myself at age 18 I was in the Navy, when alot of my buddies were partying dating girls, all the fun stuff that teenagers love to do, and I was standing at "Parade Rest", or marching to breakfast or "chow" at 4:30 in the morning, After all the bootcamp and schools I was assigned to a ship, Now that thought again about only being one person, but if the other "one persons" that made up the crew of the ship, if they were not there the ship would have no purpose, we made up the crew that in turn had to run and drive and maintain the ship,
When we would go on our cruise it was usually going to be about 6 months at least, so the married guys, the guys with gf's, or even those with family close by would have to tell the loved one "Good Bye" for 6 months, Imagine yourself not seeing your BF or you Folks, or your BFF and not being able to see them any or all for a least 6 months, there are times that alone can be hard to handle, In the process of that Cruise we wake up and look around and nothing but ocean all around, day in and day out, week after week Ocean all around, cut off from the rest of the world, even mail takes a bit longer, Now one thing I havent mentioned yet - Kids, they are the ones that dont understand why the parent is not home yet for weeks on end, and the parent missing the first words, the first steps, all the little things that some take for granted can mean so much to a military person half a world away, I know when I was overseas I couldnt wait to get back home during the summer so I could mow the lawn, I dont know why but I really associated that with being at Home, Hey there were times I even missed something as simple as washing dishes, I am sure each person that has served has their own little things they miss, but the one thing we all have or had in common - The United States Of America and all the wonderful people that make up the Best place in the world to live, We have such a wonderful way of life here and so many take it for granted or feel the world owes them,
Being a Veteran, my time in the military made me do things I never really wanted to do- the first of which I am very glad I did and that was GROW UP, and learn to take responsibility for my actions, another lesson learned was I am glad I dont live in one of these 3rd world countries we see in the commercials for starving children, Being in the military is a sacrifice for many people joining, but what many dont see is the sacrifice made by the gf's, wive's, and children, A Mom who has to be Mom and dad and still maintain a household,
Now I was on a ship I had it pretty well all things considered, The Veterans that are coming back from Iraq in Body Bags because they gave the Ultimate sacrifice, maybe they had kids or a wife or gf that will have the last time they held each other or spoke to hold on to as the final memory, or there are others that come home only to be confined to a bed or a wheelchair for the rest of their life, that is a sacrifice like no other, If I wasnt able to get up and do things on my own - If I had to call someone everytime I needed something because I am missing both legs, or I may still have them but I cant walk since the Humvee hit a landmine, or if I didnt have use of my arms so I could remind those I love with a hug, That would be a sacrifice, I would actually rather be dead if I couldnt hold the ones I love,
So actually the sacrifice comes in many more ways than we stop and think about, Maybe you know someone whos dad was in the military and they had to move around alot, have to make new friends every 2 or 3 years, thats another we dont stop and think about, From the Active Duty person Overseas, or the family without a parent for 6 months or 2 years till whenever they get home, the children who meet their dad after he comes home and they have no idea who he is because hes been gone so long, the sacrifices are many and made by many, But one thing they all have in Common - We do it because we Love our country and we love our Freedoms that we enjoy,
Remember, there may be a vet you know, many came home with PTSD, many more that probably had thought of or even attempted suicide for reasons we will never know, and sadly there are the ones that succeeded, I think we all go in feeling like it will never happen to us, we will be fine, But then someday the reality sets in, and that is something we can all see if we turn on the evening news and give thanks to the Veterans of the United States for all they have done and continue to do then the rest of our countr

What is the best way to label a child's backpack for school?

My daughter starts kindergarten this fall, so this is new to me. How do YOU label a backpack? On the inside only? On the back? With some kind of iron-on label? Sharpie marker? Who has some ideas or suggestions for me?

Answer
ONLY on the inside, that's the most important thing!
This is so that child predators don't see the child's name and call to them. You should also try to put a cell phone or parent work phone as a contact number, because someone can get your home address if you list a home phone. It's sad that you even have to consider this, but it's a reality.

If you have a fabric backpack, an iron-on label is a good idea; if not, use a permanent marker like a Sharpie. Another idea is to sew on a patch or get a colorful zipper pull that the child can easily identify their backpack in the event more than one child has the same pack.

School start here in 6 days, 20 hours, and 21 minutes. HOORAY!

Should a child who has arthritis running in the family have a rolling backpack or a carrying backpack?

PersianPri

I have arthritis. And my child wants a carrying backpack for school. But I'm scared to buy her one because I'm afraid that she will develop arthritis. Should I not buy her one or is this not true?

Answer
What form of arthritis do you have?

If you have osteoarthritis then her developing it will no be related to the fact you have. If you have autoimmune arthritis then there is a possibility she will develop it, however this is not high. I've heard children of people with autoimmune arthritis are 5% more likely than the general public of developing arthritis.

Using a rolling backpack rather than a carrying one is not going to make any difference if you're worried about her developing autoimmune arthritis. This is caused by an immune system that attacks itself. If you're worried about osteoarthritis, then the truth is that she will probably develop it regardless. Nearly everyone develops osteoarthritis eventually.

I've seen a number of orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, rheumatologists and GPs, none of them have recommended a rolling backpack for me. I've had arthritis since I was 8 years old and it affects my spine.

It's best to make sure her backpack is not too heavy and the weight is evenly distributed across her shoulders. If you can get one with a clip across the stomach (and she'll use it) then this will help spread the weight further.

I hope that's helpful.

Can I work with my parents if I cant find a job?

am going to be a F1 visa student when I turn 21. I am 19 years old, studying to transfer to UC Santa Barbara pursuing computer science major.

My parents are here in the United States with their E2 visa owned dry cleaning business for the last 11 years. So I am an E2 visa dependent right now.

I am having this constant fear about failing computer science degree nor getting jobs with it. Since I am not very studious person. Also, if I get laid off, I will have to leave this country. I do not feel confident.

To be honest with you, I like working with labors. Its the kind of thing that I feel most comfortable with. I have limited knowledge about dry cleaning, but if I learn I can do it.

I want to talk to my parents and tell them what I really want to be. I cannot leave this country because my family is here. Also I will have to join the Korean army for 2 years. Which is a complete waste of time.

What should I do?
Or is my only path is to get bachelor degree and hope to find a job? I am scared.

Answer
My wife and I owned a dry cleaners. My two sons at various times worked for us. They had legitimate jobs, wee paid a salary and were on the books. You do not have to know cleaning to work in a dry cleaners. There are other jobs such as working the counter, marking clothes in, and bagging.

You can also go to school part time and take evening classes.

Good luck./

What is the best way for a male college graduate to get a job teaching english in Seoul, S Korea?

I've been looking at craigslist, and I've been talking to a company called Gone2Korea. Does anyone have any advice? Care to share any experiences? I'm specifically looking to go to Seoul, but if there are other similar cities where I'd get better pay/housing and still get the same experience/night life let me know!

Answer
Rule #1 when job hunting in Korea is be prepared to walk away. If you've spent any time looking for jobs and reading up on working in Korea then you've probably come across hagwon horror stories. Some of these might include, but are not limited too: not paid on time, overworked, not worked enough, no medical insurance, no severance pay, screwed out of the return ticket, apartment was a hell hole, boss spied on them, forced to work over contract hours or on weekends with no overtime pay, attempted restrictions on personal time, head games, refusal to return passports and other important documents... The list goes on.

These are all dangers that have happened and most likely will continue to happen as long as newbs fresh off the boat with dollar signs in their eyes continue to sign the first contract that's offered. Not that that's you, this is just a cautionary tale, remember.

So how avoid all of those? Just follow a couple of basic rules. First and foremost, get the information of the last teacher that worked there after they've left employment and contact them. Don't accept the current teacher because they might be locked in until a new teacher is found so will say that strippers greet you at the door and give you a complimentary lap dance before you begin lesson prep if they think that's what you want to hear to sign the contract; they just want out. If the recruiter (or the school, if you're dealing with them directly) gives you some reason why it can't be done, walk away. Not necessarily from the recruiter, but from the offer. It's not worth the risk.

The second basic rule is be clear in what you're looking for and if you're not willing to bend then don't. This could be how many hours a week you want to work, what kind of vacation time you expect*, what age group you want, where you want to live in the country (as you've indicated Seoul. more on that in a minute) and any other things you may require. Don't be shy but also don't be a douche bag about it. Obviously you want to be respectful and have reasonable demands, this is not advice on how to stick it to the hagwons, but know what you want and don't let them try to talk you out of it if it's not something you can't stand to do without. And if they won't, walk away.

And the other rule is to remember that you have the power in the relationship. At least that was the case in years past. I've heard rumblings that demand is low for teachers right now because of the U.S. economy and the number of teachers who have come in recently to live under better economic conditions. Low demand means it's easier for the schools to bargain. I haven't looked in to this because I got my asking price when I came back last June and haven't had to worry about it since. But do a little checking. A good place to ask questions is a website called www.eslcafe.com (known colloquially as Dave's. There are also job postings there if you're not getting the kind of offers you want from your current recruiter or craigslist.) Go to the Korean teacher bored and post any Korea-specific questions you have in the appropriate section. There are some lifers there, and some otherwise very knowledgeable people.

As far as pay, Seoul is where you're going to get top dollar by default. That doesn't mean you won't find a higher salary somewhere else, but it's not going to be as easy. Seoul, being the capital (for now) and their largest city, has the highest cost of living, thus the highest wages. So keep that in mind when you're job hunting. Just because you're making more, doesn't mean you're taking home more. For instance, let's say you find a job in Seoul paying 2.5 mil a month, but a job in Daegu, that, for the purpose of this discussion, is essentially the same, but the pay is only 2.2 mil. Well, If money if you're main concern, Daegu would be the better deal. When you factor in cost of living, you'll be pretty much even.

You indicated a desire for an active night life and while Busan and Daegu will provide a rather active night life, Seoul being the cultural center of the country, will have them beat by a mile. You'll have access to much more of everything in Seoul. So if that is more important than stick to Seoul.

A guy above me mentioned the TALK program and I have a friend who works for them. He likes it, they're a pretty active group with lots of get-togethers throughout the year, but his pay is pretty low. He makes 1.5 mil a month, plus a 400K housing allowance, so it's not great. But I think he only works like 15 hours a week at an elementary school, so it's not so horrible. Still, if you're paying back student loans, that would not be the option for you. If you aren't and just want to experience the culture while getting paid, it might not be a bad way to go. They're a reputable program.

If you've other questions, shoot me a message, I'll help if I can.

I am a Caregiver,my Grand kids are living with me. I have many opportunities to make sure that someone else's day starts off right.

Answer
Say a quiet and gentle "Good morning my Love(s)" as soon as you see any of them.

Have something baking or simmering that makes your home smell yummy; brew coffee or tea, pop some cinnamon rolls in the oven, simmer some apple cider with cinnamon sticks, bake one tray of cookies and add one to your grandchildren's backpack and serve some to yourself and the person you care for.

Have a candlelight breakfast. Decorate your breakfast table with candles, use nice tableware, and leave a simple flower at each place setting. (The Aska Lodge in Blueridge GA serves a candlelight breakfast and it is wonderful).

Play music or sing a song as you do your morning chore.

Leave little notes around with your wishes for their day.

Smile, and then really listen to what your loved ones have to say to you.

When did kids start taking rolling suitcases to school?

Answer
When we decided to do something about the threat of Scoliosis ( I think that's how it is spelled.) I myself take a rolling backpack to school and I assure you it is much better for your back than lugging around a ton of textbooks with a traditional backpack. In case you aren't aware, scoliosis is when the vertebrae becomes crooked because of extended periods of uneven weight distribution. Since back packs are hardly centered scoliosis can show up when the child becomes older.

And they aren't really rolling suitcases, they are just backpacks with wheels and a plastic frame.

I hope I answered your question!

Here's one I like from Jack Wills:

What are your favourite cute accessories, make up, clothing and more?

Q. Please send a few sentences of Ur favorite jeans, clothes, bling, makeup, lipgloss, toothpaste, deodorant, perfume, hair accessories, bags, rings anything u like!! Put a paragraph of each thing u love, were u got it, description, cost info anything!!! Thnx so much women!!

Answer
My favourite jeans have to be my Hollister ones. They are light blue, skinny legged, ripped and have that white-washed look about them. Even though they were quite pricey they are so comfortable and I always get compliments wearing them. Here is a link ---

http://www.hollisterco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10201&storeId=13007&langId=-1&categoryId=43456&parentCategoryId=12623&topCategoryId=12552&productId=757904

My favourite "posh, dressy" item of clothing is my French Connection dress. I bought it for my Grandparents golden wedding anniversary. It is so glamourous and stunning, every time I look at it, I can't believe it's mine! Here is a link ---

http://designerdresses.me.uk/french-connection-hayleys-comet-dress/

My favourite "comfy" clothes, you know the days where you just want to snuggle up? My favourite jumper would have to be my I ⥠London hoody. Not exactly attractive to look at, but so snuggly and warm. I bought it in London on a school trip a few years ago.

My favourite necklace would have to be without a doubt my Virgin Vie red heart shaped necklace. It's stunning and definitely my favourite piece of jewellery over all. Can't find a link for it sorry because I bought it about five years ago.

My favourite perfume, or my 'signature smell' would have to be Euphoria Women by Calvin Klein. I bought it in John Lewis after going through millions of testers and putting off buying it until I decided that I really wanted it!

My favourite ring would have to be the one which has been handed down after generations in my family. It's probably worth nothing but what makes it so special is the fact that, my great, great grandmother didn't have her ears pierced but when she got given earrings by a friend for a birthday, she decided to get the two earrings stuck together and placed on a ring band. It's very special to me and I will be passing it down to my daughter, if I ever have one!

Hope this was what you were looking for!

Mine please? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhQp19AEuiNaDMCzX7gj54nty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110612055310AAAuvtx

When I was a freshman last year, I noticed that the upper classes had odd choices in terms of backpacks. Like, someone will carry a freaking ninja turtle pack that's made for little kids, a Mario backpack or even an adventure time backpack. It was sort of funny, and I felt much more free to be myself. Basically, nobody had the same one because they were entirely based on personality. Is my high school the only one that has students that really don't care what other people carry? I'd always heard high school was full of fake people and, even though that's slightly true, its not at all bad like I had first expected.

Answer
No one cares at my school except for ONE thing.

Do NOT use a rolling backpack. It gets in the way of others and trips people and looks very "nerdy" so... yeah.

Other than that, they dont care. Some have backpacks for kids, shoulder bags, gucci bags, messenger bags, string bags, or no backpacks at all!

So, I am going into grade 10 (Australia) next year, and was just wondering about what everyone else has in their school bags. I tend to go overboard (you know, buy EVERYTHING on the list the school gives you, and then add the stuff like phone, money, emergency makeup etc.) and my bag gets reallllllly heavy, so I was wondering what is the essentials to carry around with you, and what do YOU guys have in YOUR bags?

And what types of bags do YOU have?

Thanks guys :)

Answer
At my school we aren't allowed to carry bags to class. They banned them because they think they can conceal weapons, cause collisions in the hallway and a bunch of other stuff.
You have to carry your pencil case, binders and textbooks to each class.

But we are allowed to bring them and just put them in our lockers before class. I have a backpack so I bring any binders I brought home, pencil case, lunch bag, iPod, phone, gum and some spare change. During cross country and track I'd have shorts, a t-shirt, socks, running shoes and a hairbrush with hair elastics and bobby pins.

What to have in your school backpack?

Amber

I know it's early to start talking about school agin but I like to get the shopping out of the way. So I'm going to be a freshman this year and was wondering what high school girls have in their school bag and where you got your school bag. Thanks.

Answer
How to Pack a School Bag (Teen Girls)

It can be hard to pack your school bag and to know what to put in it, so here is a quick guide for teen girls on how to pack.

Steps

1Pack your books first, to avoid squishing lighter objects. To avoid a heavy bag, only pack the books you need for the day.
2Include gym clothes on gym days.
3Include your pencil case. Don't just thrown any pen in your pocket. Be more organized and pack the appropriate equipment such as:
Pencils and pens for writing
Pencils and pens for drawing
Geometry set -- ruler, rubber, sharpener, protractor, compass
Sticky notes
Calculator
Highlighters
4Consider packing tape, scissors, glue, or a stapler, which may help organize and maintain things.
5Carry emergency girl supplies. This includes:
Tampons or pads
Makeup
Body spray and perfume
Hairbrush, spare hair pins, and grips
Tissues
6Add other personal items if there is room, including:
Keys
Cell phone (if allowed)
iPod or MP3 player (if allowed)
Chewing gum or breath mints (if allowed)
Glasses
Retainer case
Phone charger
Hand sanitizer
Umbrella (in case it rains)
Anything else you need to get through your day

Tips

Clean your bag regularly, disposing of the things you no longer need.
Don't put in things you don't need. Only put in things you use.
Put any important papers in a plastic wallet or folder so they don't get crumpled.
Make sure your phone is charged so you don't have to bring your charger.
Use a bag with several pockets and compartments to store things easily.
Items like phones, hand gel, and gum can be kept in your pockets so they're easier to access.
If you have a locker, you can put your Gym clothes in there as well as books, then simply go to your locker between lessons and change over your books. If you do choose to store your kit in there bring it back on Friday for washing over the weekend then put it back in your locker. If you don't have a locker the alternative is sharing a friend's locker or putting all your stuff in piles the night before then pack it in the morning (literally pick it up and put it in!)
Try carrying your books in your hands if they get too heavy.

Warnings

Put personal items like tampons and pads in a little zipper pocket in your bag so in case your bag is open then they won't be seen.
Keep your bag closed at all times.
Make sure you have your parents' permission to bring expensive items.
Never let anyone that you don't trust inside of your bag. That encourages theft.
If you aren't allowed to have items like phones or gum, don't risk it. Don't give people a reason to look through your stuff!

Things You'll Need

School bag
Pencil case
Books
Optional items:
Headphones (if allowed)
Gum and mints (if allowed)
Tampons and pads
Perfume (if allowed)

How do kids carry snow suits, boots, gloves, and hats to and from school? Is there a bag for that?

best kids backpacks for school image

Leanne :)

My kids have backpacks full of papers and need bags to carry, sometimes wet, snow stuff. Plastic bags just keep ripping. I got some canvas bags that worked great when they were smaller, but now they just can't hold everything.

Answer
my kids have mesh bags so the water drips out. can't remember where i found them online, but they come in multiple colors (to keep kids' stuff straight); are big enough to hold boots, snowpants, mittens, hat, and ice skating helmet if needed; have a drawstring closure; and can be slung over the kids' shoulders (except they don't work well for my 4-year-old because she's so short they end up dragging on the ground).

When did kids start wearing backpacks to school?

phoebe

In movies dated in the 1960-70s, you always see students carrying their books in a stack, even when they're walking from school to home. It has me wondering if backpacks were around back then.
So when were backpacks invented, and when did students start using them to carry their books?

Answer
Late 70's and early 80's is when we see the school backpack come into style.

Before that backpacks were big hulking things only used for camping and outdoor adventures. They date back to the 1800's and probably even before that. This was due to the rigid frames most people thought you needed to distribute the weight. Eventually, somebody came up with the knapsack (early 20th century or there abouts) and it only took a few decades to get the knapsack renamed a bookbag.

I am looking for a school bag for my next year of school. The bag should be not too expensive but I dont mind paying £55 at the most. I want the bag to be fairly modern and eye catching. I would prefer the bag to be across body or an ideal choice a satachel. I live in England is there any shops or websites were they sell fairly large, good, quality bags for school.

Answer
You could get a bad from roxy there quiet expensive but they last for ages! i got one like 2 years ago and still have it! you can get some cool patterns too. you could just get a plain bag and put tons of key rings or badges on them!! i have done it a lot and it looks quiet cool. or you could write on the bag in marker! i have also done this! i got a good bag once in a sport shop as well.
good luck!!

What kind of accessories should i wear to spice up a casual outfit for school?

Answer
well accessories would probably be a nice chunky colorful necklace, a pair of black or white big sunglasses charm bracelets are in too. and a cute BIG bag would probably be found at your local fashion bug or pacsun

hope this helps!!

Healthy food in a lunch box without it looking to obvious?

school lunch bags for kids
on kids want a school backpack with matching lunch box . Young children ...
school lunch bags for kids image
Q. Someone called me fat today (behind my back, five kids came up to me at different times telling me that this boy called me fat and ugly.), and I've decided to take control before it becomes out of control. I know that my schools food is not healthy at all. I sent a letter into the school about the food last year, but nothing has happened. I am a MAJOR sweet tooth (that's how I became a little bit overweight.) I don't have time to go to the store so can you come up with things that I can put into tupperwear that can go into a lunch bag. I don't want it to look obvious that I'm trying to lose weight. Please don't call me stupid or dumb because I don't want anyone to know. I really care what people think about me (stupid I know.) But please list some healthy food recipies like sandwhiches, soups, pasta (if even), etc. Good food. I'm not picky at all. I'll eat anything (again how I got this way). Please help.

Answer
Well first of all that is terribly mean!
Kids today can be so awful!!
I hope your feelings were not too terribly hurt. And always remember when others deliberately say mean things to hurt someone else, it is because they themselves are insecure and want to pick on and make someone else feel bad. I am a mother and I have studied psychology and this is normal behavior for insecure kids!!! ANYWAY -
You can just simply pack fruit (apple, orange, raisins) or pretzels (instead of chips), string cheese (good protein), hard boiled egg, small portions of nuts, turkey or lean lunch meat sandwiches, juice boxes or diet soda (water is the best). Nearly everything out there comes in a low cal or low fat form. You just have to look around at the store.
Good Luck to you! You will do fine!

What do primary school kids have in those bags with the school emblem on them?

jumpychees

This applies to the UK. During the past 3 or 4 years, I have seen primary school children taking an A3 sized bag which is the same colour as their school jumpers with the logo on it. They are also carrying a normal school bag and sometimes a lunch box or bag.

As I don't know of anyone with a primary school aged child, I cannot ask them.

Answer
they carry their school reading books that are given to them to read at home, and they take them back to school as they read it to their teacher. also sometimes the work they do at school they are allowed to take them home later

And what's your school bag style?

I go to a all-girls school in London, so mainly everyone has the Nike Just Do It bags, bags from Primark, oversized handbags and some have these tiny leather bags

My new school bag is a shocking pink metallic mini backpack from Primark!
I like the oversized bags, I mean they look fashionable and you can fit all your stuff.

I think it is stupid to carry those Just Do It bags - it doesn't even fit a standard A4 book...

Answer

like big indie type of bags.

strapy gladiator sandals are really in as well.

How can students being aloud to carry school bags around school help them stay more organized?

mellyk96

I have an essay due about why we should get the school rules changed about school bags and i came up with that reasong but i need examples to help support it.

Answer
If they 'allow' this it will:

1: Save time - as students will not be constantly going to get books from a locker.

2: It will allow students to organise their bags in the morning so that all that they need is in the bag.

3: They can leave some items in their locker and carry some so their bags are not too heavy.

4: If children are taught how to carry bags/backpacks correctly on their backs then certain problems will be alleviated.

How to carry your bag correctly:
Dr. Skaggs suggests the following to alleviate back pain caused by carrying too heavy a load in a backpack:

* ALWAYS USE BOTH SHOULDER STRAPS: "It's important for children to use both shoulder straps instead of simply slinging the backpack over one shoulder," Dr. Skaggs says. "Using one strap can cause children to walk improperly and places all the load on one shoulder."

* PACK CORRECTLY: Dr. Skaggs recommends that heavier books and items be packed closest to the back so that the center of gravity is near the center of the pelvis. Secondly, he reminds children to not pack so that there are sharp comers. "A load on the shoulders will naturally cause you to lean forward," he said. "That's why it's important to distribute the weight evenly."

* SELECT THE BACKPACK THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU: "The standard two-strap backpack is good for light loads. For heavier loads, a backpack with a hip belt takes the load off of the shoulders and distributes it to the pelvis and hips," Dr. Skaggs said. Dr. Skaggs also recommends selecting a backpack that has a well padded area that touches the back and shoulders so sharp corners will not cause discomfort by sticking into the back.

What is a good value, cheap digital camera?

Matt

The camera doesn't need to have very good picture quality perhaps 3.5 mega pixels, needs to be fairly durable and compact and water resistant, however, it does not need to be water proof. The main thing is that it needs to be fairly cheap, under $150.

Answer
I bought Canon PowerShot SD1300IS for my wife to carry in her purse so she can shoot pictures and video of the kids while they're out and about, or when she drops in on them at their school. No camera bag needed, this camera fits in a zipped interior pocket of her purse.

I gave it to her and she was able to successfully power it on/off, shoot pictures, shoot video, zoom, delete bad shots, and navigate the menu system without referring to the manual. The point here is if you currently own a Canon point and shoot and are looking for an upgrade, the learning curve on the SD1300IS is almost zero. If you've never owned a Canon point and shoot, you will figure this one out very easily.

The 12MP pictures are stunning, but to be honest I can't tell the difference between the ones that are 12MP and the ones that are 8MP on my Canon S5IS. The pictures the Rebel XS takes are a notch above the others, definitely a noticeable difference there.

The video quality is 30fps 640x480 (plenty), same as my S5IS. The image stabilization is a must for this to be of any use, and works like a champ. A 4GB SDHC card holds about 32 minutes worth of video, 8GB 64 minutes, 16GB more than 2 hours! The video is very easy to transfer to your computer and burn to a DVD or upload to Facebook using the included USB cable. There is also an included cable that allows you to play video on your TV via the yellow video cable port.

The appearance of the camera is so cool. I bought my wife the green one, and it looks great. I like how the lens completely retracts into the body and covers itself with a protective layer. A handy camera strap is also included, which is good because this thing is so small I could see it slipping out of your hands.

All in all, a very easy to use, functional, attractive camera that I have no hesitation recommending!

CM Punk is

I was planning on bringing a small suitcase and a backpack. Will they allow me to bring those items?

Answer
You're allowed one carry on item and one personal item.

Approved Personal Items
1 purse, briefcase, camera bag or diaper bag
or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked)
or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above

Additional Approved Items
The following items do not count as personal items (theyâre freebies):

A jacket or umbrella
Food or drink purchased after clearing the security checkpoint
Duty-free merchandise
Special items like strollers, child restraint seats or assistive devices such as wheelchairs or crutches

Here are also the size restrictions for carry on bags:

Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 115 cm) in combined length, width and height
Baggage must fit easily in the Carry-on Baggage Check (approximately 22" x 14" x 9" or 56 x 36 x 23 cm), which is located near the check-in counters

How do I handle all the baggage and my child when flying alone?

Amanda R

I am going to be flying non-stop to Colorado from St. Louis in a couple weeks. I will be flying alone with my one year old. I need to take his carseat(checking) and stroller(would like to keep it so I can use it in the airport so I guess it is like a carryon but it will be held at the front of the plane), and a suitcase (will be checking), and a diaperbag that I will be carrying on. My question is how am I going to handle all of this stuff when I pick it up at baggage claim and until I check it through? Will there be people that can help me get my bags or not?
Will they let me check the stroller so I can have it plane side?

Answer
I'm an ex-F/A who flies now alone with my three between Europe and California about every six months since each was about 4 months old. We also take shorter trips a lot.

1. I don't take a purse. I take a small fanny pack or long strapped small bag with my essentials and a backpack. It's a bit bigger than the standard size (I have one just for flying) and fits the onboard limits. With just one child, consider leaving or packing the diaper bag.

2. Attach the carseat to the stroller. Use bungee cords and perhaps try them back-to-back. Another option is to check/leave the stroller and put the carseat on "wheelie" cart. Make sure it's all metal and there is a gadget sold that fits several carseats. http://www.amazon.com/Gogo-Kidz-Travelmate/dp/B000MWZWV8 It's available on other sites too but that's just to show you what it is. I've done fine with an *all metal* cart and extra bungee cords. My old wheelie from my first airline found a second life by carting carseats!

3. Make sure you have a good carrier for your baby. Forget those fiddly Bjorns and use a wrap, sling or pouch. A Mei Tai or something like an Ergo carrier works well too. Carriers should last to at least 2 years. My 3 year old can still go in her sling. Great for calming babies onboard or getting sleeping children off the aircraft. Check out http://www.peppermint.com or http://www.kangarookorner.com for ideas (I don't work for those sites-they actually represent multiple companies).

4. In baggage claim, load the bags, put the carseat on the top along with any hand luggage and the stroller and push it *all* while the baby goes in the carrier. I've managed alone through customs and two other children this way.

For the record, I've never used a skycap. They're not used for international but use one if available. Tip well so that they'll be nice to the next family ;)

What I do with the backpack is that I wrap diapers, extra clothes, etc. and rubber band them to make room. I bring a cloth bag (the kind you buy in grocery stores as an alternative to plastic and paper) and use that onboard for diaper changes, etc. (so I'm not hauling the whole backpack around). I simply put what I need for each trip to the lav.

I have an article on flying with children that I put on a blog to share with other parents. It's totally non-commercial and sort of my own personal Mitvah. Feel free to check out;
http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com for more details on carseats, packing, booking and other tips.

Otherwise, have a good trip (and be grateful you don't have to face Customs!)

work experience at a primary school please help!?

Danni_Doll

i am working at a primary school for a week as part of my work experience but i have a few questions,

anyone done this for work experience before?
what did you wear?
what will i need to take with me? any pens, pencils etc?
do i need to take a bag? how big?
thankyou very much. any help would be appreciated whether you have done this for work experience or not (:

Answer
I took a class for two years during high school, called Future Teachers of America. So, I guess it can be considered work experience. The teacher was there, and we were little tutors going around helping the students with their work, organizing the area, and preventing general chaos. Don't wear anything with holes or something that your parents might be embarassed seeing you in. If your parents are a bad example, your big protective brother, or a priest. Jeans are fine, as long as they aren't low cut. Low cuts are bad when a six year old boy sings the "I see London, I see France, I see So and So's underpants" song. I only say this, because one, its very embarassing, and two, it's distracting the students from their work. A t-shirt is okay, but a turtle neck, or a nice non-insulting shirt that isn't too tight, or loose, is good. I live in a year round cold climate, so I always wore a sweater. Bring a pencil, with an eraser. It helps if you are trying to explain a problem to a student. If you want to take anything else, sure bring a bag, but be prepared to set that aside from everything else in the classroom. Only go and get something if you need it. We had everything ready for us, and the teachers already had their supplies. A small notepad is good too. If you have any questions on how to handle the kids, quickly jot it down, and ask your supervisor, boss, or even the teacher, when he or she has time.
Your first day come five/ten minutes early. You will be at the classroom slightly prior to everything being disrupted. This gives you time to try to get adjusted to your surroundings. If the school has the students going to different classrooms and teachers, most primary schools don't, you could contact the teacher to see what exactly is needed of you. I hope I helped, and I hope that you enjoy yourself!

What type of school bag should we get our daughter?

school bags
on ... Colorful Girls School Bag - School Bags - Back to School
school bags image
Q. Our daughter attends a girls' school in Melbourne and next year will be a senior student. We will need to get her a new regulation school bag, the school uniform shop offers two types of bags (both made by Spartan) - one is the Senior carry bag which has lots of room and has two handles for carrying on one shoulder and the other is the back pack. I know it's still early days yet but I was wondering which type would be more suitable for our daughter? What are the pros and cons of each? I'd be interested to hear the perspectives of both parents and students!

Answer
A back pack is, by far, the better one from an ergonomic point of view, since the weight of her books will be evenly balanced between her two shoulders and will not pull her down to one side. Besides, she'll have both hands free for other things.

My country, Thailand, used carry bags for public schools nationwide for decades, but have now all changed to back packs for the above reasons.

How do I potty train 2 kids at one time?

school bags for little kids

school bags for little kids image

I have 16 month old twins (1 boy 1 girl) and I want to start potty-training them in about 2 months, I know some of you will say that they are too young but they are both very smart and I really believe they can do it. I know girls are easier to potty train so should I try to train her first? Should I get 2 separate potties for them? Should I use pull-ups? I also know that the daycare isn't going to help me (they are busy) so what should I do about that? It might confuse them that they have to go at home, but not at daycare. I'm going to buy some potty books and think of some kind of reward system, but I just really want to make sure that once I start, I don't stop because of problems that may arise. Only mommies (especially of twins!) or people who are around little kids a lot... I would really appreciate any advice.

Answer
When I potty trained my daughter, I stayed home for four days, kept her at home with no bottoms onat all, and took the portable potty into every room we were in. When she went, she would get to pick from a grab bag of prizes. For two, I would imagine that two potties would be the way to go. Also, I would encourage the man in your life to help with the boy. Also, my son goes to a daycare that potty trains children. They start them at 24 months. Those types of schools are out there and available to you. Good luck!

What would be some good things for an Easter Party I am setting up for extended family?

Adamismyna

I am hosting one this year and I am 28, single. It will be kids but only 1 little kid (Easter Bunny aged) the rest are junior high and high school. Some will come and others might not but I wanted to make enjoyable activities.

Answer
List of things to do for an Easter Party

Mummy: Need rolls of toilet paper, one per person. You can form teams to see who is the fastest dressing their mummy (other person) or just let them have fun. This can be very messy with the dust from the toilet paper and the paper fight afterwards.

Picky Marshmallow Relay: Need toothpicks, one per child and one marshmallow per team. The marshmallow is placed on the end of the first persons toothpick. They hold the toothpick in their mouth and try to pass it to the next person in line using only the toothpicks in their mouths.

Clothes Pin 7-Ups: 7 clothes pins per person. Clip clothes pins on the backs of all players and have them face each other in a circle (outside). At the mention of "GO" they each run around trying to get the clothes pins off each others backs. No grabbing and holding on to the other persons.

Talent Show: Video the kids performing to music. Lip sync is fun or air guitar/sax etc.

Nighttime Easter Egg Hunt: Hide eggs and prizes outside. Everyone brings a flashlight to the party. Hide items like fingernail polish, body mists, not just candy.

Piggly-Wiggly: Everyone lays out their sleeping bags. Choose someone to be "it." They must leave the room. Everyone else hides inside the sleeping bags (not their own). When they are ready, "it" comes back in. She sits on one of the sleeping bags and says, "Piggly-Wiggly" the person inside says "oink, oink." 'It' must guess who is inside the bag. If they are right, the person in the bag is it.

Rock and Roll: When your having a slumber party and going to a roller-skating rink is out of the question, make a skating rink in the garage. Parents can back out their cars and take out other stuff in the way so there is room to skate. You can also have music and a snack bar!

Hip hats: Decorate denim hats with jewels and sparkle puff paints and wear them around the next day.

Puffy pillows: Decorate plain white pillowcases with puffy paint. Let them dry overnight.

Popcorn Toppin': Pop some plain popcorn. Give everybody a couple of dishes with popcorn in them. Have your guests put on all the toppings you want. For example, cinnamon and sugar, raisins, melted butter, pizza seasoning, and parmesan cheese to make a pizza kind o' popcorn.

Curly-Cute: Make rag curls in your friends' hair. Take pieces of fabric and wrap hair around them. When you wake up you hair will be all curly.

We Had A Ball: At the end of the slumber party, sit in a circle and sign beach balls with a waterproof marker. Write all about the good times you had together at the sleepover.

Burglar Alarm: Set a little timer and have everyone go out of the room. One person stays in and hides the timer. Then the other children come back in and try to find the timer before it goes off. Whoever finds it might get some kind of prize.

Set up a craft table to make bracelets.

Have a pajamas contest! See who has the best pajamas!

Watch some fun movies.

Pillow fights.

Make smores!!!!!!!!!!
Serve whipped cream and fruit on waffles in the morning.
See if you can borrow a kareoke machine so you can sing along to music.

Do makeovers!

Make rice krispie treats.

Make your own sundae!

Popcorn fights, if you have a vacuum handy.

Decorate some cutie pie cupcakes.

Play boardgames.

Decorate pillowcases with fabric markers...this way they can use them that night. Put on date, etc.

Shaving cream fight out side.

Play telephone.

Have a talent show!

Wacky fashion show!

Have a "theme" for the slumber party such as spa slumber party (perfect for all girls), spooky slumber party, survival slumber party, etc.

Do pedicures.

Think of unusual places to sleep: the attic, a tree house, a tent outside in your back yard.
Scavenger hunts.

What are some good fundraising ideas for a small group of kids?

Lora

We are a church youth group planning on going to Oaxaca, Mexico to work on building a school. Its VERY important to us. We need to raise approx. 1000 per kid. If you have and ideas on fundraising events, or and businesses that may be willing to sponsor us. Please, let me know.

Answer
My son's French club raised $1,066 per student for a trip to Quebec City by selling 6-inch hoagies (subs) for $3.50 each. The sales were phenomenal. Nearly everyone asked was happy to purchase a sandwich. At $3.50, this was something affordable to all. On the day the sandwiches were to be distributed, the students gathered in the school cafeteria to make them assembly-line style, which took only 2-3 hours. This is one of the most successful fundraisers we have ever participated in.

Another popular fundraiser is a cookbook sale. Perhaps the women of your church could help in soliciting and gathering recipes, with an equal amount from total sales being deposited in each child's account. This would also work well for church bake sales, quilt raffles, rummage sales, spaghetti dinners, etc.

The members of a local church are often seen in front of our Walmart selling bags of various flavored Tootsie Rolls for $2 each. They do this each year, to fund trips to South America.

Another successful fundraiser in our area has been the ever-popular candy bar sales through a local candy maker. Ask at your school for the names of the candy salesmen they use. We also have a pizza shop that participates in $5 cheese pizza sales, as well as a convenience store that offers coupons for a sandwich, chips and drink for $5. As with the hoagie sales, these are enormously popular. Check with the pizza shops and convenience stores in your area to see if they offer similar fundraising opportunities.

Last but not least, a local public school teacher found her calling in Uganda, where she eventually settled to set up an orphanage. Through the generous donations of the students who deposited the change from their lunch money into a jar each day, an orphanage, clinic, and school were built and furnished in just over three years. Where there's a will...

It is my hope that you are able to utilize some of these ideas. Good luck to you and your group.

Where can I get a really good quality, but still fashionable school bag?

school bags for college

school bags for college image
Q. I need a good quality bag for college.I bought a bag from Accesorize last Christmas, and it had completely fallen apart by June, so I'm a bit wary about going there for another bag.
I have quite a few heavy books and folders, so it will need to be big and strong enough for this.
I'm not made of money, but I don't want to save a few pounds only to get a bag of a lower quality.
Any help given would be very much appreciated!
Thank you.

Answer
Most girls would want something thatâs strong, can hold all of your books, doesnât hurt your shoulder, and still looks cute! Thatâs a lot of criteria to meet! In my opinion, my friends like tote bags! Tote bags are your cutest & most fashionable option in college bags (at least in my opinion). With tote bags, your possibilities are endless. You can go basic black leather, funky hot pink patent, glittering metallic, and everything in between! Tote bags are very good, because you don't have to just use them for school! You can use them during parties, class, going out. Anything! I hoped it helped!

How many textbooks do you need per college basic?

Q. I'll be a freshman in the fall and I just bought my school bag. I'm trying to decide if it will be big enough for everything. So I just want to know how big are textbooks and about how many per class?

Answer
You typically have 1 textbook per class, but you usually don't need to bring the book. Some classes may have 3 or 4 smaller books that you read throughout the semester instead of a textbook. Some classes also have workbooks, which are usually pretty thing (maybe 50 pages). The size can range anywhere from a 200 page novel to a 1200 page hardcover textbook.

I've only had 1 professor in 3 weeks that required I bring my textbook to class every day. Plus, you won't have the same classes every day, so it's unlikely you will need 5 textbooks at once.
