Do you know of any good, sturdy, yet cute bag for school?

I have looked at Pac Sun where I have found recent school bags, but lately they have failed me. I have checked every store of the sort, Tillys, AE, Hollister, ect. I really need a new bag that is good and can withstand textbooks and binders.

Answer
To withstand textbooks and binders, try looking at a company that specializes in durability and not branding. Pac Sun, et.all are well-known brands but not necessarily known for durability. You can find a lot of 'cute' bags from some more heavy duty companies. Depending on what kind of bag you want, you should check out the following companies:

Timbuk2 - http://www.timbuk2.com - their products are known for being heavy-duty and durable. Their line of messenger bags are what bike messengers the world around use because they are so durable. They've expanded and now have a lot of more 'trendy' bags.

Jansport - http://www.jansport.com/ - they're famous for their school backpacks but they have a great reputation for wear if you get on of the heavier duty ones. Because they have a large school department, they also have some very cute styles.

for the grungy look, try http://www.fatiguesarmynavy.com/store/item/FA1955 where they have some cool heavy-duty fatigue looking bags. For that matter, check out any army surplus store.

Finally, check out REI. They specialize in sports equipment, but their backpacks and book bags are made by sport manufacturers so they will stand up to some very heavy duty wear. http://www.rei.com

for great ideas check out funky, cool and chique laptop bags at hhttp://www.squidoo.com/laptopbag.

my backpack weighs 25 lbs. i take home almost everything every day. how do i make it not weigh so much?

asking ans

my parents throw a fit when i come home from school because my backpack weighs a ton. i take home almost everything everyday.

i need to find a way to make my backpack lighter but still take home what i need to do my homework.

plz help!!

ps. im in seventh grade and if u have any more organization tips too that would be great!!!

thanx.

Answer
Have you asked if your school will lend you an extra set of textbooks to leave at home? Then you can have one to keep at school and another to use in doing homework. A lot of schools are allowing this option because so many children are damaging their backs.

Otherwise, see if you can purchase extra copies of the books to keep at home. Then you should be able to get rid of most of the weight.

Also, some students use rolling bags, like the kind that pilots and stewardesses and other frequent travellers use for their carry-on luggage on airplanes; they have wheels and a handle that can be pulled out to use or pushed in to save space. They may be a bit pricey, but it is much easier to push that weight around than it is to lug it on your back.

For the future, you might suggest that your school look into getting copies of textbooks on CDs for students to use at home. I know some kids who have classes where there are textbooks that are kept in the classroom for classroom use and the students are given the choice of a heavy textbook or a CD to use at home for homework. You might try suggesting that idea to the schoolboard. (They may really like it if you mention that it will lessen the likelyhood of them being sued for injuring some poor student's back from such heavy loads.)

Good luck.

How do you prepare to go to school out of state?

la_la_blue

I am thinking of going back to school and some of the schools I am considering are far from where I live. I would have to pick up and move and look for a new job and place to live if i don't live on campus. How do I go about it?

Answer
This is a really, really difficult aspect of choosing a college or university, and it's one that I erroneously overlooked. I'm originally from Alabama but deicded to attend Boston University in Massachusetts. First thing: make sure you have the finances to afford airplane/train/or bus fare to and from your home--not just in the summer--but during Fall break, Christmas break and Spring break. MANY colleges kick students out of the dorms (the ones who live on campus) for these recessions, and if you don't have the money to go home, you're in trouble. If you live in an on campus apartment (which doesn't happen for most freshmen) or if you're off campus, then obviously you don't have to worry about this. Secondly: shipping and storing your things for the summer can be VERY expensive, and these shipping and moving companies are beginning to charge even more to compensate for rising gas prices. Do you think you'll be able to afford to ship and store your things for four years? The average price to ship and store my items (in Boston) was about $650. Keep in mind that if you try to overpack your items in a suitcase to avoid being charged for them at the storage and shipping places, airports charge $80 for overweight items and they're beginning to charge for even checking bags.

Be sure to look at the cost of living in the respective city you choose. Boston's a very expensive city and I couldn't move off campus as I'd lose some financial aid money...watch out for that. You might have to have 2 or 3 roommates just to afford rent (depending on the closeness to campus etc).

Make sure you understand the overall cost of living in the city surrounding your university. Going shopping in Boston is a completely different experience for me because things (everything) is twice as expensive as it is back home--including food. Since I really couldn't affod a lot of groceries, I had my family ship me canned goods from home (which was also expensive).

I'm so happy my college career is almost over. The hassle that comes along with traveling, the expenses in shipping/storing things for the summer (if you live in dorms) and just generally being thousands of miles away from everyone I knew and loved was VERY difficult. Of course you'll make friends, and learn the city, but these are just a few things to consider when going out of state. Good luck, and remember that being in a new environment, coming into contact with fresh ideas and new perspectives can really make the entire experience worth it in the end.

Is there a program that collects food cans for Somalia if we collect from our schools?

crazymzgre

I want to do a canned-food drive in my university, but I can't find an organization or program that will take the cans. They all want money. Is there such an organization looking for cans or do they all want money?

Answer
Don't bother with your misplaced idealism. Even if you managed to send cans of food to Somalia, the terrorists would get it all and none of it would go to the people who need it. The same applies to money. So forget such foolish notions. If you want to help people, there are plenty of people right here in this country who need help. If you looked, there are probably enough people within one mile of where you are now who could take everything you could manage to get together.

Don't go looking half-way around the world to some dirt-bag country that doesn't even have a functioning government and is run by opposing terrorist mobs. Help the people in your own neighborhood, or on your own street first.

What are good ways to volunteer as a teenager?

Q. im 16 and i want to know some really good ways of volunteering. i've always wanted to be a candy stripper but i cant think of any other ways.

Answer
Our local food bank would be glad for your assistance.

Your local church might be able to connect you to a meals on wheels program. They have to pack the lunches/meals prior to them being delivered.

My church has a food pantry that always needs help unpacking the food and making the bags that are going to be distributed.

Your local after-school program or Boys and Girls Club can always use teen volunteers to work with the children. Some pre-school programs and kindergarten classes might welcome your coming in to read to the children. They may also have a peer program in your school. They would pair you with younger students to be a mentor. Ask in your school library. Some younger children might need homework and schoolwork assistance.

You aren't old enough to work in the kitchen of a soup kitchen without supervision but you can help set up the tables and assist in cleanup.

As a teenager they have to be careful for your safety so you may meet some resistance. You will need to be persistent and sincere.

It makes me proud to hear a young person ask so powerful a question. Your parents/caregivers should be very proud.

Good Luck.

in Huck Finn, What changes are shown throughout the novel in regards to its tone and Huck's character?

soupfan95

What changes are shown throughout the novel in regards to its tone and Huck's character?

Answer
Chapters 1-7: Twain starts the book by providing a notice to readers that the book is a continuation of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" that takes place between the year 1864 and 1865. He warns the reader that several dialects are used in the book, including "Penjooby," a pidgin form of Jamaican spoken widely by slaves in the nineteenth century south.

As the book begins, Huck, the narrator, tells us that he and Tom have recently found a large chest full of gold and valuable French postcards, and that now he is living with Widow Douglas--who has taken him in as her son-- in her apartment. His father, he tells us, went to the store for tobacco and whiskey, but never returned. He lets us know that, though he misses him a little after five years of separation, his father often beat him when he was drunk and he would often hide in the woodshed when his father was at home.

Widow Douglas tries to educate Huck, but Huck makes little progress. Huck has other interests, though: He describes a four-story tree-house he has built that includes an ingenious bathroom with crude indoor plumbing. This is Twain's way of letting readers know Huck is gifted.

Huck, Tom Sawyer, and two other boys meet regularly in the tree-house to hold a meeting of their club, "The Gang of Four." Tom leads the adventures and pranks, but Huck grows bored of their play, saying " "Taint no fun no-how to be make-believin' all the time; I'm-a-itchin' to have some real adventures!" The adventures soon follow:

Suddenly, Pap shows up drunk at Widow Douglas' apartment threatening to take Huck's money. He beats Huck viciously with a Hickory stick and assaults the Widow with a curler-tin and several antimacassars, then he hauls Huck's battered body off in his ox-cart. When Huck comes to, he strikes his father on the back of the head with half-filled sack of buckwheat and Pap is run over by the wheels of the cart. As his father's body lays lifeless in the wheel-rut, Huck heads for the Mississippi. Near the shore, he is able to obtain a birch-bark canoe and provisions from a local Indian woman, trading them for an old vest button, a tin pennywhistle and some used sealing wax. Before he heads down the river, he cleverly stages his own murder: He kills a deer with his pistol, then smears blood around the shoreline. He tears up his jacket and covers it with blood also, then leaves it beneath a tree.

He quickly loads the canoe with his basic provisions--a gallon of kerosene, a large bag of iodized salt, a jar of Gherkins, a toilet-rag, a tube of petroleum jelly, and a some rancid cooking oil--and heads out on the river.

Chapters 8-18: Huck reaches "Belle Isle," an island downriver, where he feels liberated. He is still close enough to his departure point to see his friends when they come searching for his body and he takes great pleasure in seeing how troubled they are about him having been killed. He discovers he is not alone on the isle when he happens upon the escaped slave, Jim, who he finds playing solitaire whilst he awaits a strike from a Mississippi Sheephead--a much sought-after river fish--on his fishing line. The pair become friends, playing poker and gambling with their meager provisions. Jim teaches Huck some "black magic," which Huck respects more than anything he has learned in school. Using it, Huck casts a spell on Pap--a spell that would insure that, when he dies, his father will be reincarnated as a working pack-mule and forced to haul large loads of raw gypsum for another lifetime.

Curious about how his death is being received in town, Huck dresses like a girl and makes a trip there. In disguise, he finds out that there is a reward for Jim's return to his "owner," Miss Watson," He is conflicted about this, but decides to press on down the Mississippi, having built a raft on which he and Jim float away.

Jim tells Huck how he has always wanted to go to college and reveals that, if they make it to Toronto, the "promised land," he hopes to enroll at Ryserson University and earn a degree in steam-powered engineering.

Huck and Jim then have a mishap in which their raft, bound only by Columbian hemp rope, splits in half.. They become separated in the smog, and, when they finally are reunited, Jim declares his love for Huck, telling him that he is more precious than if he were his only begotten son, a Biblical reference.

How long does an insulated bag work for?

~ <3 ~

I'm going to be at college for 12hrs, plus another 2hrs driving time.

If I were to keep some food in an insulated bag, APPROXIMATELY (to your best knowledge) how many hours max would it stay fresh for if:

-the food was reallly hot or frozen?
-it was just sorta cold?

Thanks.

Answer
I found this for you. Hope it helps!

Lunch Bags & Boxes
The first thing you will need is a container in which to pack the lunch. It doesn't need to cost a lot of money. For adults a small cooler makes a great lunch box. Fred uses a medium sized cooler. He is usually gone for 24 to 48 hours, so he needs alot of food to keep him going. For children and teenagers, you can usually find inexpensive lunch boxes and insulated lunch bags at yard sales and thrift stores.

Small children often prefer a plastic lunch box with cartoon characters on the side. I suggest you buy these as cheaply as possible. They only last for a year or two before the children drop them or the latch breaks. At $6 to $10 a piece, buying brand new boxes has never been a good investment for me. I have purchased them new when I desperately needed the thermoses that came with them. After the plastic lunch box broke, I purchased replacements from my local Goodwill. I continue to use the same thermos year after year.

If the art work on an older lunch box is shabby, you can easily replace it. Use rubber cement to glue down a new picture (cut to size) and then cover the picture with clear contact paper. I've done this, and it lasted almost 2 years, until the lunch box cracked and became unusable. Amy D. describes the process in detail in the first book of The Tightwad Gazette.

For older children insulated lunch bags work best. They don't have the juvenile connotations of plastic boxes with matching thermoses, so older kids usually don't object to carrying them. I like them because they don't break when they get drop-kicked across the livingroom by a budding football player. Since they have soft sides, it is easier to fit more food and odd-shaped containers in them too. They usually have zipper closing and shoulder straps for carrying them. I buy the largest ones I can find because I find them easier to fill. Many modern insulated bags have several extra zipper pockets and sections on the outside to carry little extras like napkins, spoons and salt or pepper packets. My boys like these but they aren't really necessary. Purchased brand-new, insulated lunch bags cost between $5 and $15. If you wait until back-to-school-sales you may find them cheaper. Over the summer they can often be found at yard sales. Insulated lunch bags usually do not come with their own thermos, so you will have to use some you already have or buy them separately.

What should I buy for back to school shopping in terms of clothes?

Messenger

I'm going in a week or so. I want to dress more girly this year. I'm usually tomboy-ish. My school outfit consists of a graphic tee, a sweater, skinny jeans, and sneakers. So...What should I buy to look more fashionable? Lol XD I'm new to this, haha.
I live near Boston, MA. It get's pretty cold around the end of October.
I live near Boston, MA. It get's pretty cold around the end of October.

Answer
hi! definitely buy clothes that you can wear with a lot of outfits for different looks rather than clothes that you can only wear in one way. clothes that you should buy less of because you can only wear them one way would be rompers and dresses. clothes that can be mixed and matched would be tank tops, skinny jeans, shorts, cardigans, cute v-necks, etc. you should definitely buy a few pieces that can be used to accessorize an outfit such as a scarf (my favorite!), jewelry, and different kinds of shoes. for example.. an outfit that is completed with boots would look different than the same outfit with flats or sneakers.

anyways, for the bare minimum of new wardrobe options, i'm going to list what i would suggest you to buy:
2 tank tops in neutral colors that would look good with anything (such as white and navy) ~$8 each
2 pairs of jeans (a light wash and a dark wash for variety) ~$30 each
1 cardigan (navy or black would match with anything) ~$20
2 jackets for winter(maybe one in (faux) leather and one in your favorite color) ~20 each
1 pair of shorts (denim shorts always look good with anything) ~$10
2 v-neck or scoopnecks or whatever you like (these are like t-shirts, but with a girly touch. they will be your basic attire) ~$10 each
2 pairs of shoes (personally, i like boots but you can get flats which are super girly or toms which are really popular lately) ~$30 each depending on the brand
2 accessories (again, i love scarves because they're big enough to stand out and they're practical for cold days but you can choose a chunky necklace or a hair band or really anything that you think fits you) ~$10 each

these are the things that i think would allow you the most variety and ability to mix and match (therefore the best price!) for the items i listed above, the total comes out to $246. for anyone wishing to purchase a whole new wardrobe i would think that $300 should be the minimum amount that they should expect to spend so, if $246 isn't a lot for you, feel free to spend the remainder of the money on a splurge of your choice. like maybe if you had your eye on a cute dress or bag.

now i'm going to list stores at the mall that you can purchase these items: charlotte russe, hollister, forever 21, abercrombie and fitch, abercrombie kids (if you're on the small side and you love the clothes from abercrombie and fitch, go here instead because they're a lot cheaper and they're the same clothes), cotton on, ever, rainbow, macys, aeropostale, tillys, etc.

again, these are just suggestions of things that i would buy if i wanted to buy a girlier wardrobe for the new school year. make sure you try everything on before you buy it and only buy things that look good on you and flatter your figure. when going to the mall, wear something neutral like a pair of jeans and a plain shirt so you can see how something works with the clothes that you already own. also, when you're trying something on like a shirt, put your hair in a pony tail to see how the item looks with your hair up and down. sometimes it makes all the difference. bring a girlfriend or your parents for a second opinion and never let anyone make you feel like you need to buy something just because it's girly. we all got our own styles and we should never stray too far away from it. anyways, i hope i helped and i hope that you aren't scared off by the total that i calculated for you. have a great school year <3

edit: oops i forgot to add.. if money is a problem for you, don't buy all of these items at once because not only will you be forcing yourself to find all of these things at one time, you will be hitting yourself in the head because everything you just bought will be like half price during black friday sales. you might want to hold off on some of the wintery things for black friday sales.

I am going to be a freshman and don't know where there are cute bags/backpacks for school.
Do you know any good sites.

Answer
I'm gonna be a freshman, too. My advice is just get a plain-colored Jansport bookbag. Everyone uses them, and they're good for school. Lasts long, lol.

You can get them anywhere.

What is a typical school bag that a university student will carry?

R A

I was wondering, what type of school bags do the majority of university students carry?

Answer
Every student has their own unique style; for me, I sling a Jansport backpack on one arm. However, I've seen people with roller backpacks (usually the petite girls), side bags, and even briefcases (probably law school students).

Nobody pays any attention though; it's no longer high school where you're measured on your attractiveness or jock status

Love Conqu

( Including Hairstyles ) Add Details . . . . . Just Something Amazing , Please Answer :) Make Sure You Add A Lot Of Stuff :)

Answer
Dress your best on the first day! Act positive and be yourself!
The first day of school is the first appearance you have after three whole months - make it a good one, because first impressions matter.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing your big debut ensemb:

Keep things simple and classic, nothing in-your-face or over the top.
It's okay to be a little trendy, but you have to adapt the trends to your personal style, or you'll end up looking like a major trend-chaser.
Put on the confidence! If you don't have it, fake it. When you aren't doubting yourself, no one else will doubt you or your clothing choices.
Create the Outfit
The idea behind a great first-day-of-school is a killer ensemble. Just make sure you can back up your outfit and will keep your dressing pattern consistent - don't wear an ultra trendy, right-off-the-runway look and then turn around and wear simple jeans & a tee combo the rest of the year.

Look good, but nothing too dressy or attention-grabbing (only exception is if that's the look you're going for the whole school year!).

Here are several looks to consider for a first day style:

Chic & understated. Black tee with dark denim hipsters, black boots, low-slung black belt, plus an oversized eye-catching necklace in turquoise, silver, or coral. Tres chic!
One part western, one part sophisticated. Distressed bootcut jeans, fitted striped oxford (stay away from plaid to avoid a complete cowgirl look), fringed belt, and pointy-toe boots. Remember to coordinate shoes and belt!
Athletic-inspired. Although a too-cute track suit is absolutely perfect for any other school day, it's just too casual. Instead, wear a sleek, colorful hoodie in terry or velour with a sharp denim mini, fitted tank, and bright new sneaks.
Updated Gypsy. Change the vibe of serious chino trousers (low-rise, a little baggy, but still chic) with a hippie-esque embroidered peasant top. Throw on a few beaded bracelets and add a pair of semi-dressy kitten-heeled sandals.

Add the accessories
Accessories definitely make or break the clothing. The perfect shoe & belt combination, plus jewelry is required for any great look. Here are five things that you need to fully accessorize this school year:

Fringe suede belt. Adds a rustic appeal to hipsters and a sleek tee.
Turquoise. There's nothing better than a great turquoise necklace or cuff with black - such a clean, chic combination!
Chandelier earrings. So elegant, yet so easy to pull off! These gorgeous jewels look just as great with an evening gown as they do with a feminine top and denim.
Trendy sneaks. Required both for those stylishly sporty and those just plain stylish. A great pair of sneaks can take you anywhere.
Boots. Whether you choose a sleek black or distressed brown leather style, the look will definitely be hot!

Important stuff
Your school necessities should be funky and fresh, just like your style.

Search for cool versions of old classics - denim or corduroy messenger bags, bright backpacks, cute notebooks, girlie pens. Look for femme backpacks at kid's clothing stores where there's lots of eye-catching pink, purple, green, orange, etc. Check stationary or office supply stores for stylish paper and pens.

Also try re-decorating certain things: decoupage notebooks (add glitter, stickers, ribbon, magazine pics, and other pretty items), cover a binder with Autumn-ish materials like corduroy, or girlify a backpack with ribbons, buttons and fabric paint.

The rest of the week
Okay, so you get the first day over with while wearing a completely fabulous outfit. but now you have the rest of the week to worry about!

Make a point that you don't get all dressy and cute the first day, and then every other day wear trainers and track pants.

I suggest that the whole week (although I normally plan the entire month of September. yeah, it's an obsession!) is planned out in outfits. That way you can focus on what school is really about - homework and important stuff (don't forget guys, friends, socializing.).

Do most kids carry backpacks in college?

crazikool

I'm just wondering if people use backpacks and if its worth investing in a good north face backpack or if most people use like, messenger bags, or large purses?

Answer
Most people I've seen carry one, as did I and still do every now and then when I'm away from my office. If you're carrying a ton of stuff around with you all day like I did, that works so much better than trying to hold it or put it in some other style of bag. You'll see a little of everything (yes, including rolling bags) on a college campus, though, so don't feel like you have to pick anything in particular to avoid sticking out.

If you have or are planning to get a laptop, I'd try to find a bag that has a built-in padded sleeve for it. They're wonderful as far as keeping your computer all safe and happy amid the rest of your supplies, and mostly collapse out of the way if you aren't using it.

As far as the quality. . . I'd probably go with one of the better ones if you plan to carry much. I made it through my senior year of high school, a BS degree, and part of my MS with one -- pretty amazing since I routinely had it stuffed full and weighing 20 pounds or more as an undergrad.

Everytime I walk by my neighbor's house, their 3 cats throw balls of kitty litter at me. It gets stuck in my hair and in my backpack, and kids at school have started to call me names like "Poop Head". It is so destressing. What should I do?

Answer
poor little poop head...lol... OK... next time you walk by bring some ammunition of your own... water balloons would work great as would a water gun... but if would like to make peace with these naughty kitty's.... smear catnip all over yourself and let them mew over you instead..... ( personally I would go with the water balloons)...Lol...

What backpack do i use for my freshman year of highschool?

Nikkie

im going into my freshman yaer and i dont know what kind of backpack the kids use like regular ones or the cute sholder ones that u get from like hollister ? what do most people (girls) use ? :)

Answer
well, I'm going into my junior year of high school and most people use those expensive Dakine backpacks, it really depends on your budget Some girls just use on of those oversize shoulder bags, but for the first week when you're getting all your books I recommend using a normal back pack after that use whatever(:

Good luck in High School!(:

How long will a 17 year old get sentenced with posession of class A drugs?

school bags for kids uk image

trina.

In the UK?

Answer
Large quantity? Enough to prove intent to distribute? I believe in the UK they sentence according to 'possession' as in a couple pills for Friday night, or 'supply' as in a quantity large enough to claim that there was an intent to supply the drugs to others (sell/distribute). Max in magistrates court is 6 months/5,000 pound fine either way, but if the case in tried in the Crown Court, max is 7 years / unlimited fine for possession, life / unlimited fine for supply.

A 17 year old will probably get the Magistrate Court sentence. Max of 6 months / 5,000 pounds, but I imagine it would be a lot less if it was just a little ecstasy, for example. In fact, unless they caught you with a kilo of cocaine selling dime bags to 12 year old kids in a school playground, you could probably get off pretty lightly. Just remember to show a deep regret for your actions and a great respect for the authority and honor of the court and the law. As your attorney I would advise that you make every attempt to at least 'appear' to regret your actions and respect the court. (By you, I mean whoever's facing the charges)

What are your back to school essentials?

Rufaida

I was wondering what everyone's back to school clothing essentials are? What are the items you're going to buy before purchasing anything else? For me, my back to school essentials are faded skinny or straight jeans, cargo pants, oxford shirt, simple black skirt, floral dress, denim vest or jacket, lightweight cardigan, slouchy sweater and a boyfriend blazer. For shoes, I am focusing on casual shoes and I am buying canvas sneakers, tennis shoes, moccasins and slip-ons. I am going to buy these things and then I can buy all the extra stuff!

Answer
5 to 7 pairs of jeans. Try to buy them in all different washes, cuts, and styles. You can get them from the same store, just be sure there is something noticeably different between each pair. This way, you won't be buying jeans that all look the same! But if anything, make sure you have a tighter pair, a comfortable, slightly baggy pair, and that one pair that fits just right.
1 or 2 pairs of sweatpants. Get one pair in a soft, light heather-grey shade, and one in another color that flatters your skin tone and eye/hair color. These are great for lazy or sick days, when you're running late, just want to be comfortable, or cold days when you're not in the mood for jeans. Everyone needs a break! BUT make sure they fit nicely. Tight around the butt, but not too tight. Get pairs with drawstrings to adjust the waist size.
2 to 3 skirts, depending on how often you wear them. But, every women should have at least one denim skirt in their closet!
3 to 5 pairs of shorts. This depends on how often you wear shorts. Buy only 1 pair of short-shorts and the rest a good length.
You are going to need 10 to 15 fashion tops. These are comfortable yet cute tops you can wear any day of the week.
3 to 5 plain, solid colored layering tees. These are just those plain-colored, but still fitted and cute, tees that can be repeated in a week without being recognized. They can also be accessorized as much as you like. Try to find 1 or 2 bright ones, and the rest soft and/or neutral shades.
4 or 5 jackets are a good idea. I like to have 5 so I can wear a different one each day of the week. These are the most common way to stay warm and cute in the winter time.
4 to 10 pairs of shoes. Try to mix it up with heels, flip flops, flats, wedges, tennis shoes (such as Converse, Nike or VANS) and boots.
1 pair of UGG boots and 1 pair of UGG slippers should be good in the winter. If you want more than one pair, get one in a tan shade and one in a chocolate brown shade. If you don't like UGGs, find another pair of cute, furry boots that are warm and cozy; every girl needs at least one pair.
Accessorizing depends on how often you like to accessorize. So, if you rarely add anything to outfits, start! But stick with 1 or 2 pieces in each category. If you love accessorizing, embrace it, but don't go crazy!
Necklaces are important. If no other jewelry, a women should always have her signature necklace. That one you wear no matter if you're shopping or playing a sport. Try the cute chunky ones. You can also find cheap jewellery from Forever 21, nothing is more than $6 and it is pretty good quality.
Bracelets. Unless if you're wearing bangles, the rule is to only wear one bracelet total. Not one on each wrist! Try to find a charm bracelet or tennis bracelet to wear when you dress up or as a statement piece. The maximum you should go with your bracelets is 2, but on the same wrist and make sure they go together! Charm bracelets can get expensive, but Express has a couple cute ones for only $30. It has all of the charms already attached.
Earrings. If you have more than 2 pairings an ear, it looks totally tacky! Only have the 1 pairing on your lobes, and either get your second holes (also on your lobes), OR get one cartilage piercing.
For bags, you should have at least 2 so that you can have them in different colors and styles. The more the merrier, right?
Good luck!! I hope this helped!! :)

What can i do with my new credit card?

Eden

I just got a new prepaid visa credit card with 100$ on it. i wanna shop for some nice new winter clothes, are there any websites fir some nice jackets like the ones they wear in twilight. and some school appropriate dresses but really cute gurly ones. thanx!!

Answer
$100 doesn't go VERY FAR shopping online.

I have a $20 Gift Card from my Discover Rewards, and I still have $5 credit leftover . . . and unless you're buying $5, you'll end up losing the rest, if you want to use it, you can pay in person the remaining balance using ANOTHER credit card, but paying for online purchase when you include shipping, there's really not much left!

For $88: you could buy 2 skirts, jeans, 3 tops, a box of chocolates & a bag of cookies @ Marshall's. And STILL have leftover for a movie and snacks or a pair of sunglasses.

Best way to buy COATS, or ackets: Is to try them on in front of a full length mirror. A size medium for example is not one size fits all, the sleeves may be too long or the body may be too tight. When you put your elbows together, they should not fit tight on the shoulders.
Nordstrom and Piperline they have FREE SHIPPING & FREE RETURNS. I just ordered 3 from Nordstrom, recently, and all THREE were returned, because the sleeves were too baggy or too long. one can't be altered because it had zipper on the sleeves. I just ordered 4 more from Piperline, waiting delivery on Wednesday, that's 3 days from when I ordered it.

I also suggest when paying for online purchases, don't use Paypal, it takes just once to be a victim. I was and it took 3 years to get my credit. Use your Credit Card, always, they can help you if any disputes. Scammers Fool eBay Sellers with Fake PayPal Emails 8-19-13.
http://www.bbb.org/blog/2013/08/scammers-fool-ebay-sellers-with-fake-paypal-emails/ Example from YA!: "On the 10th of November we returned a watch I had bought for my husband, it was supposed to be an automatic but when it was taken off stopped after a short while. I phoned to tell then and they said to return it for a refund, I know it reached them on the 11th November as I tacked it by the post office. the promised refund has yet to come after several email all ignored and a few phone calls now all I can do is contact the credit card company. so customers beware".
AND beware of international shipping, they could add 3-25% extra fees, even if the price is cheap.
My merchant was from Texas, but the product was shipped from Hong Kong. This products, I ALSO told them we'll be gone for 2 weeks, and not deliver it unless I signed it (value $2000). It was sitting on my PORCH when I got home! Because, it could have been stolen, I decided to teach them a lesson, and returned it, lucky it was my credit card that I used!
Other times, when you need to call Customer Service, they speak in foreign tongue and no one to translate them or JUST they don't answer calls.

That'sINTE

I want to start a foundation that gives donated backpacks to kids who are underprivledged and don't have enough money to buy one. How do I start it?

Answer
gather some friends up and just make a lemonade stand or something like that to raise a little money. also have family and friends contribute. after you have raised some money talk to the principles of schools with lower-class children attending about using the money you raised to buy backpacks and school supplies to give to the kids.

it is very sweet you want to do this! GOOD LUCK!

What do you think about parents putting their kids on leashes?

Andy

I was in Starbucks today and this young woman came in with her young toddler and the barista who was older asked her if she had thought about those backpack leashes for kids and the woman says that she thinks it would be silly because her child is not a dog. The barista then said but it keeps them safe.

Answer
I think that tethers are great for those who opt to use them. It is no different than holding their hands, really- except it can hurt both the adult and the child to hold hands for a long period of time, nevermind that hands get sweaty and then you, the adult, only have one hand to shop or whatever with. The tethers also have the same purpose as a stroller- to keep them safe. I think the tethers are better because at least the toddler is getting excercise and can get air on his/her back (being restrained in a car seat or stroller for long periods can make you very hot, even in cold weather).

Since you used the word leashes, and said that the mother said her child is not a dog, let us put it this way- we use leashes to keep our pets safe, why would we not do the same for our children? Toddlers can get into trouble inthe blink of an eye, even with the most attentive parent. You stop to tie one child's shoe and the other dashes off in the parking lot or you are comparing labels in the store as you buy items for dinner that night and your child disappears around the corner, out of sight.

Teens ONLY: How does the weight struggle start within teenagers?

school bags teenagers
on Ni Hao Kids school backpack Girls School bag: Baby
school bags teenagers image

Scarlett

We assume that because teens are so young, the only topics on your mind should be school, music, fun stuff, etc. Yet, adults struggle with weight for many reasons and they usually begin in their childhood. What would you like adults or other teens to know about struggles with weight? Is it all hype? How does the weight struggle start?

Answer
Some people say it's genetic, but I think it's an excuse to let yourself become 100-300 pounds overweight. It's a pathetic excuse. You don't just magically become fat because everyone else in your family is fat.

Whenever I go to fast food and I see someone wolfing down three hamburgers, I think to myself "And you wonder why you're fat?" or at the movie theaters when I see someone with the biggest size bin of popcorn, a giant slurpee and a couple boxes of candy, I think to myself "And you wonder why you're fat?"

Three hamburgers are not genetics, it's a choice. You chose to eat three hamburgers. You choose two eat seconds and thirds of massive portions of food. You choose to get a extra grande frappucino with extra carmel and whip cream instead of a skinny mocha. You choose not to exercise or push yourself when exercise. None of that is because the rest of your family is fat.

Teens think that just because they're skinny now they can eat whatever they want, but that's not true. It's going to pay off later when you don't know what a healthy portion is or know the difference between subsituting half a tub of ice cream for strawberries dipped in chocolate or making your own yogurt parfait.

My parents were very overweight, and so were my brother and I, only my brother and I didn't show it because we have fast metabolisms. Growing up McDonald's was somewhere we ate on a daily basis. At night, we would eat an entire bag of candy while watching tv. We would always eat steak and potatoes, and we whatever we ate we would have our plates full of mounds of food, like a mountain of spaghetti.

Several years ago my parents begin using Nutrisystem. When they began exercising, all they could manage to do was a lap around the street. Eventually, they were able to walk a lap around the block. They began learning portion control and ate smaller meals. They began walking the track and walking up and down the stairs. They lost about 50 pounds when they decided to quit Nutrisystem and learn how to eat healthy on their own.

Our portions were smaller and what we ate was much, much healthier. We tried to find healthier options for school lunches rather than the junk food we ate. We ate more sandwiches and more fruit. Apples and yogurt are now staples to our daily snacks. My parents quit drinking (which is TERRIBLE to drink when you're trying to lose weight!) and stopped going to fast food restaurants. When we eat out, we subsitute french fries for salad and fruit. We avoid greasy and fattening food. Now my parents jog and can hike for miles.

My brother and I aren't as strict as my parents. We still love to eat fast food and drink at Starbucks and eat ice cream and candy, but not nearly as much as we did growing up. We don't really exericse, but it's something we're still trying to work on.

My advice for teens who are struggling with weight is to find a support group or a buddy who can lose weight and exercise with you. It's so much easier to lose weight when you know you're not alone. Self-discipline is extremely hard but once you've learned how to say no overeating and eating poorly it becomes much easier. You have to be able to go out to a restaurant and be able not to pick the unhealhiest meal on the menu. You have to be able not to be eating 24/7. It's really hard, but it takes alot of dedication.

What is an effective but healthy diet for a busy teenager?

^_^

I'm 17 years old, 5 foot 4 inches tall, and 175 pounds. I'm really busy with school and extracurricular activities, but I think that it's time to make my health a priority. I understand that fitness/healthy living is a life style, and I'm not asking for a quick fix either. I just want to know: what is a good diet for me?

Answer
I think the best weight solution (especially for someone as busy as you!) is this; substitution. Before you reach for a bag of chips or hamburger try a Yoplait Yogurt instead. they are portable and delicious. Try granola, water or natural juice instead of soda, sandwiches instead of pizza. Excersice is great also if ytou have the time. Just whenever you eat something ask yourslef could I be eating something better? Also eat breakfast, it speeds the metabolism! Good luck and be patient!

In what ways can you hunt in the uk legally? and why is it you can't?

Answer
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Agonm6jRFD7TcQTA1APpkTtJBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20100501020811AAPNOGh

When Fatefinger asks a question like the one above one can't really take anything seriously from this kid. He lives in mommas basement.

Hunting with dogs is a bit of a grey area.

Hunting with a rifle or shotgun, no problem what so ever. Less restrictions on hunting in the UK than the states.
Maybe you should ask fartfinger if he can use an 8 gauge for wildfowling with? Ask him if he needs tags and bag limits, ask him if he can hunt rabbit and fox at night, ask if he needs a licence or schooling.

How to Dress like Japanese girl for haloween?

Mia

i want to dress like a Japanese girl for Halloween but not like the traditional old kind thing, like the new age pop sort of harajuku kinda thing. Where can i find clothes like that? and the little hair thingies they wear in there hair and small backpacks or whatever?

Answer
http://www.flickr.com/groups/harajuku/ << this is a group which has a lot of photos of Japanese fashion including schoolgirl and Harajuku fashion!

they basically wear childrens hairclips in their hair which you can get from anywhere like Claires or shops which sell hair accessories and jewellry

the backpacks are also kids backpacks which you can get from loads of places such as bargain shoe stores (most of these sell bags as well as shoes) and you could try the Disney store?

if you dont mind buying online, eBay is good for buying a lot of the things you described, ill give you some links to examples here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHILDRENS-BUNNY-HAIR-CLIPS-GRIPS-GIRLS_W0QQitemZ150273579245QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150273579245&_trkparms=72%3A1089%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

a lot of the accessories that the Japanese girls wear are along the lines of Hello Kitty so if you can find Hello Kitty accessories then that would be great! and remember to really get into character you need to keep smiling and doing the peace sign that a lot of Japanese girls do in photos! like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/60233675@N00/2709723812/in/pool-harajuku

have fun!

Just list the definition?
Scene -
Indie -
Chav -
Plastic -
Emo -
Goth -
Hardcore -

Maybe add some pictures for them to see how the people look different?

Answer
Scene - "Scenesters" Are teenagers that are on the scene. They are THERE at every concert, convention etc. They get their fashion from "emo" kids but splatter in their own colors and whatnot. Scene is truly about being unique, but in modern day, it's turned into a stereotype where everyone looks the same. =_="
Pic: http://www.thisishowyoudoit.com/how-to-be-scene-girls-boys-fashion/

Indie - Border far from mainstream. They like listening to unpopular bands and hate popular music to the grave. They dress very casually, plain t shirt and jeans with converse. They dislike emos for stealing their fashion, i.e converse and clothes but turning it darker and more graphic
For pic, scroll down to the girl in front of the red wall with a large bag.

Chav - Boys who are kind of gangster wannabes, with those DC like hats, fake bling, coats resembling a giant track suit and stupid words that resemble cuss words.
The girls are stereotyped as pregnant teens with many piercings on the ear, tight ponytails, etc.
Pic: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/744508-post50.html

Plastic - Oh you know them, those horrible popular girls that have tight cliques at your school. They wear cakes of make up and started dating in elementary school.
Their facebook page will mainly consist of:
"Omg, I look soooo ugly in this photo!"
"Oh no you dont (__insert stupid nickname__) You look sooo pretty!
"No I don't! You are sooo much prettier!"
"No you're prettier!"
"No you're prettier, (__insert untrue compliment here__)
"See?! You're sooo nice! You're sooo much prettier!"
etc. It goes on. It'll never stop. Not even on the apocolypse.
Pic is from nintendo game for "The Clique" based off of the series about a bunch of plastic girls and thier drama.
Pic: http://momstart.com/2009/08/nintendo-ds-game-the-clique-diss-and-make-up-giveaway/

Emo - Teens that are deeply interwined with their emotions. They express their emotions through writing, poetry, art and music. They generally dress in skin tight jeans in dark or bright neon colors, will wear generally darker shades of band tees. Chains, piercings and arm socks are also undeniable. They "tease" their hair, so it is big and volumized. They may dye it jet black or platinum blonde with a streak of another color. They are not always depressed and sad, but being emotionally in depth it sometimes seems that way.
Pic: http://www.layoutsparks.com/1/109400/emo-guy-dance-sing.html

Goth - People that give no crap about popularity in society. They aren't afraid of anything really, they dress in a darker style, sometimes resembling the Victorian style with the black lacy corsets and skirts, garters, platforms. They usually have dark heavy make up.
From as extravagant as this :

To more subtle:

Hardcore - People who go against mainstream very deliberately. They listen to hardcore music, metal? converse, jeans and a crew cut, i think. :P

How many teens are into alcohol/sex/drugs?

Rawrnold

I'm asking out of curiosity. Sometimes i feel like the only straightedge person out there.

How many of your friends/peers are into all that stuff?

Answer
HEY. Wow, I'm honestly REALLY glad you asked this question because I feel like I'm the only straight edge most of the time too. :/ Almost all of my friends have tried stuff like drugs and alcohol. Most of them don't do it regularly, but if the temptation's strong enough...
I though have never tried any of it and never will. At my high school we have a Peer Counseling class at school and I wrote up some reasons why I don't do drugs or alcohol, or have sex. Here they are. Its pretty long but yeah. I'd love to hear from you and see your reasons!
Excellent question!

WHY I CHOOSE A STRAIGHT EDGE LIFE.

1.I have a new baby cousin that I love dearllyyy. It would really kill me to see him dabble with drugs or alcohol, and I seriously would effing beat the crap out of anyone who led him on that path. Iâm sure someone feels that way about me, so I refrain.
2.This reasonâs kind of arrogant but itâs the truth⦠itâs pretty effing awesome to be able to say that a drop of alcohol has never entered my body nor has any other illegal substance. Not many other American highschoolers can say theyâve never done drugs or tried alcohol, but I say it with pride :]
3.People spend gazillions of dollars and intense amounts of time all through out a studentâs schooling preparing them for bad ass high school experience where a bunch of d bags are pressuring them to smoke or something to that extent. I want those people to know someone listened. It was worth their while, and they DID make a difference.
4.A little bit of me dies every time I find out someone I respect, like, or admire smokes or drinks heavily [sometimes even mildly]. Seriously. Iâm not just re-quoting a keychain or facebook group, I promise. I remember freshmen year when I slowly, slowly found out nearly EVERYONE smoked/drank. Nearly EVERY senior did it, and I looked up to them the most. Sometime in the beginning of freshmen year i found a group called Girls for a Change and stuff did change. There I met a group of seniors who didnât booze and puff and it was effing crazy. Now, theyâre in college and Iâm not quite sure what theyâre up to, maybe I donât want to know, but it matters that they were there my freshmen year and made a phenomenal impact on my views today. One girls was the 05-06 Peer Counseling president. Prettyyyyyy bitchin!
5.My main âanti drugâ is my family. Hereâs the first reason: If the average person does indeed live to be about 75, then my mom has about 33 years left and my dad has about 26 years left. I really donât want to make them have to deal with thoughts of âwhere did I go wrong!â âwhat the f is wrong with my kid!â etc. I think itâs just easier that I stay away.
As for the second reason- itâs kind of an inferiority complex. My dadâs older brother has 3 kids. They all went to my HS back in the day too. The oldest is a boy who went to Yale and then grad school at Harvard. The middle daughter went to UC Berkley and then Columbia. The youngest went to Boston University and then Harvard. My dad had 2 kids, his eldest son, my big brother, went to San Jose State University, and Iâm still in high school. Heâs never mentioned it and he probably never will, but Iâm sure its pretty humiliating. I think the least I can do is NOT make his life worse by starting new illegal extra curricularsâ¦
6.Finally, I really really donât want to die anytime soon. I want to see my 4 kids that I may have when I'm older and meet their kids! And maybe even my kidâs kidâs kids! I definitely view cigs and booze as catalysts of death, and thus I keep my distance.
