Best school backpack for a 15 year old guy?

Nihirr

I want a bag that isn't to big or small but still stylish that is under $35. Thanks! :)
What backpack brand for guys is popular in highschool?
What do you think of this backpack...?
Is it fine for highschool use?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vu_Vk-YquGI

Answer
A lot of people have Under Armour, Jansport, and L.L. Bean backpacks at my school. If you want a cheap one, go to Walmart or Target and just get any black, red, navy, or grey one. No one really cares about anyone else's bag. You could be carrying a potato sack on your back and no one would think twice. Haha.

Girl Morning Routine for School under 30 minutes?

Bri

I wake up at 6:00 a.m. and i leave for the bus at 7:15.I want to be done getting ready by 6:30.The time can be a little bit over.I usually just brush my hair or put it in a bun and i put on makeup(eyeliner, blush, mascara, and coral lipstick).

Answer
OK, you want something under 30 minutes? I can get ready in less than 25: Take a quick shower, put my hair up so they don't get wet. Get dressed, brush my teeth, makeup, perfume, rings, etc. shoes, my hair (takes 2-10 mins. to style) and I'm out the door.

If you need to wash your hair, wash & dry them the night before. Get your bags ready the night before. Your bags, or purse must be ready to just pick up as you move your way out the door. If you have problem picking what to wear, make sure those are ready to go, the night before too. I know sometimes, I spend more time trying to find out what to wear, than getting ready!

When I was in HS, I had all my clothes in order by how I hang them, then I move the hanger, it's like planning for a meal for a week! You got everything ready for the next day!

What kind of luggage should I bring to Germany for a year long trip? ?

Michaela

I am going to be a foreign exchange student in Germany this coming school year and am wondering if I should bring 2 medium sized suitcases ($50 for the second one) and one duffel carry on bag, or if I should bring one big suitcase and risk being over 50lbs? ( $100 more for an overweight bag) but I think 2 suitcases would be hard to manage through the airport and on a train to my host family . Tips/suggestions?? Danke!! :)

Answer
Get the second suitcase, and don't take the duffel bag, but a backpack for hand luggage. That way, you will have your hands free to handle the suitcases.

Two suitcases are no problem at all at the airport, but they may be problematic at a train station. There are elevators and escalators at basically all major train stations, but if you have to change at a smaller station, you will have to carry your luggage over the stairs. (I hate it!)

Lost bag : Really nice and seen in Germany!?

SereM

I saw this really nice bag in Germany and know nothing about it apart from the description:
Dark purple with a tatty edge and it says SPOOKY GIRL on it.
It is a messenger/shoulder bag and would be ideal for school, so if you know anything about this bag (eg. the make) plz answer!

thx
xx

Answer
That is going to be hard to find. Do you remember what store it was in. That would really help to find it.

Answer
I don't think it's a good school bag. You're in college. You're going to be walking from class to class, carrying your laptop, your wallet... You need something more suitable for your needs!

I'm a sophomore in college, and I got a backpack. But I didn't want to get an ugly one, because most of the people at my school are pretty stylish, so I got one at Jatalo :) They gave me 10% off with books71, too.

http://www.jatalo.com/shop

For every backpack they sell, they donate a year's worth of textbooks to a child in need.

help with school bag. ?

i am going into seventh grade and i really don't like wearing back packs so i was wondering if i could use like a tote bag.

i didn't take the photo, i found it. lol.(:
i bought the bag at claire's and i probably won't use that one but i will use one about the same size.

Answer
well, as a 7th grader you take on a lil bigger load, but not that big. I would probably say this is ok. I know a lot of public schools, you don't have to carry as much. i go to a private school and am in high school, so this owuld not work. just depends how much you have to carry

What is a typical American High School like?

-Alligator

I live in the UK and I just want to know, what is an American high school like? Big? Small? Middle size? How long do you get for lunch? (At my school we get 40 mins) Are you allowed to leave campus during lunch? Do you have an evil P.E teacher? Do you get lockers? What are the typical classes you have to take in high school? What age are you when you start high school? When does your school day start and end? How many classes do you have in one day? I have 7. Do you have a uniform at your school? Does your school have all the typical stererotypes, i.e cheerleaders, geeks, jocks ect? What age are you when you start school?
And can someone please explain the grades to me?
By grades I mean two things. What are straight A's? How do you get them? What are all the grades you can get in school?
And what grade would you be in at a certain age?
For example, age 10 = grade....

Answer
well size definatly depends where you go to school or what school you go to. My high school right now is pretty small but my old one was huge. Yes we get about 35 - 40 minutes for lunch and i'm not sure if you can leave campus or not haha :). we get lockers at my school but you don't have to use them. I rather not use my locker so i carry my backpack around to all my classes. as for classes we have to take 4 years of P.E. I take science, english, math, and english an a foriegn language.
you can also take an extra class like theatre arts.
My P.E teacher is pretty nice but she has her moments.
My high school starts at 7:36 am and you can either go home at 2:06 or stay for an activity period if you need work on school work or are failing and go home at 2:56.
I have 8 classes each day but we have 10 periods + an activity period. My high school doesn't have uniforms but i have gone to a school that had them. they were ok i guess haha :P. unfortunatly yes we have cliques which i think is stupid bc why label someone by how they act and dress.
I stared kindergarden when i was 5 but i also went to preschool
before that.
haha grades are quite simple
A's are for the kids that work there hardest and try their best in school. each class gives you a grade on how well you do so if you have straight A's you have done well in all your classes. you can also get B's, C's, D's, and F's ( the worst grade you can get). well since i'm 15 i would be in 9th grade.
kindergarden = ages 5 - 6
1st grade = ages 6-7
2nd grade = ages 7-8
3rd grade = ages 8-9
4th grade = ages 9 - 10
5th grade = ages 10 - 11
6th grade = ages 11 - 12
7th grade = ages 12 - 13
8th grade = ages 13 - 14
9th grade = ages 14 - 15
10th grade = ages 15 - 16
11th grade = ages 16 - 17
12th grade =ages 17 - 18
thats how the age groups usually is in each grade is but it also depends where your birthday falls.

hope i helped :)

Middle School??

whatsernam

I am going to Middle school in a week or 2 and I am nervous! What should I expect, should I bring a lock for my locker? Do I need a big backpack? How much different from elementry school is it? What styles are exceptable in middle school? Is it hard keeeping track of all the different classes? If you know anything please tell me all you know and pronto!

Answer
Middle school is not as hard as it looks. You will want to only bring your essential supplies (paper, pens, folder, etc.) on the first day, because some schools don't give out locker assignments right away and you'll be stuck lugging all your stuff around from class to class. Most schools have combination locks already attached to the lockers, so you won't need an extra padlock. However, some schools require you to have an extra lock for your gym locker. Your teachers will provide you with a supply list for each class, so you'll know what to bring. Once you've got your locker, you can just go there once before school, once at lunch, and once at the end of the day, and you can change out the books/supplies you'll need for each class, so you won't have to carry around too much.

As for keeping track of the classes: it is pretty easy, but nobody expects you to get your schedule 100% memorized by the first day, so don't be shy about asking someone where a classroom is if you can't find it. Also, when I was in middle school, I remember that the teachers were pretty lenient on the first few days of school if we were late to a class because we couldn't find it or something.

I think you'll find that all the kids your age are still going to be adapting to middle school, just like you, so the styles for kids in your class will most likely be the same as they were in elementary school. The older kids may dress/look different, but that doesn't mean you should copy them. Just stick to who you are as a person, and your true friends will just like you the way you are.

One more piece of advice: if you are a girl, you will inevitably meet up with a group of "mean girls", either in your class or older than you. Whatever you do, DON'T let them get to you. If you have to ignore them, come up with witty comebacks, whatever-do it. Just don't let them make you feel worthless or dumb, because you're not. OK?

MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

glamababii

im going to middle school. my town is kinda weird middle school is from 7-8th grade. also the middle school is set up into communities and they are called different things from greek letters like my brother last year was in Theta and the year before that Delta. each hall is 1 community. I AM TERRIBLY SCARED!!!!! here are my questions

******when you go to homeroom on the first day of school do you bring ALL your school supplies to just that one class or do you keep it in your locker because on the first day i have no idea what to bring. i was thinking of the day before the first day of school to do my binder and make each class a seperate section and my other binder will just be cycle classes. this school has certain locker times for each community.

************ how long is it usually to switch from class to class because i dont wanna be late or too early.

*********** FRIENDS i am also scared if none of my friends will be in my community. can u guys help me get over that.

*********LOCKERS on the first day of school do they give you your textbooks?? what if your locker is too small for like 5 txt books 2 binders and a backpack. at this school some communities have half lockers, full lockers(long ones) and low lockers with kinda like a drawer on top(IM HOPING FOR A LONG ONE!)

PLEASE IF I HAVE ANYMORE QUESTIONS CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL!!!!!!!!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!

Answer
I'm going to 7th grade, too! Yay! But I know a little bit about middle school and what to expect, since mine starts in 6th grade.

Question 1: You aren't required to bring all of your supplies to one class. Look at your schedule and find all of your locker breaks. Only get the supplies needed for classes in between locker breaks. For example if your schedule looks like this:

Locker
1st Period--Math
2nd Period--English
Locker
3rd Period--Science
4th Period--US History
Locker

Then, when you go to your locker for the first time, you would get only the stuff you need for English and Math. Then, when you go to your locker the second time, you only need stuff for Science and History. The teachers don't expect you to carry all of that around all day. As far as your binder, I like that idea. It's a great way to stay organized.

Question 2: The teachers usually dismiss your from your class and allow you to go to your locker. Most of the time, on the first day of school, they will tell you how long they'll allow you to be at your locker. Usually, it's no more than five minutes. And if you keep your locker organized, that shouldn't be a problem.

Question 3: It's ok if your friends aren't in your community. More than likely there are a ton of other kids that are coming to this school, which gives you the opportunity to make a lot of new friends. Just be careful who you pick as friends, because sometimes, they just aren't the right ones. And if you simply can't go through middle school without your besties, let your parents know and they can write a note to the guidance office, possible allowing you to switch classes.

Question 4: Textbooks usually are handed out on the first day of school. Your locker should be big enough, because you won't have all of that in there at one time (You have to have some books and binders for you classes). As far as a book bag, what I would recommend carrying instead of that is a tote bag. You can put all of your books in there and carry a purse with that if you would like. That way, you can carry it around all day with your books (Saves arm space) and you don't have to deal with a book bag in your locker (Saves locker space). You can find these bags at Wal-Mart.

http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&ic=48_0&search_query=tote+bags&Find.x=0&Find.y=0&Find=Find

I hope that this helped you out a lot! You can definitely email me whenever you want at crazy_carolina_child@yahoo.com. Have a absolutely spectacular day!

Question about puma bags?

Princess A

I was just wondering if these puma bags will be able to fit stuff like books, notebooks, etc. Just basically like school stuff. So if you have the bag or you just know, tell me. Thanks!

Here's the links:

Answer
Yes, it should fit books just fine but don't load it with heavy text books. You need a heavy duty canvas bag if you carry around really hard-bound heavy text books.

Just kidding.
Let me tell you a joke..(better go to jokes and riddles category)

In a flight some vip's were travelling. (this is a old joke. don't mind old vip's) Ronaldinho, Hillary, Bush, Pope and a school boy. The captain suddenly announced that the plane will crash and that all of them must take a life jacket and jump. But there were only 4 life jackets for five. Ronaldinho said "I'm young and famous and have wife and kids. I'm a great football player. So i'll jump first." and he jumped. then came hillary. she said "i have chances of being elected next. i'm very needed in politics. besides, my husband needs me. so i'll jump" and she did. bush said" I'm the MOST imp person in America. without me, america will perish. so let me jump. he too took a life jacket and jumped. the pope and the school boy were left behind. the pope said "i'm old and have experienced everything. but you are still young and need to live .therefore you jump." but the school boy said"don't worry. we have enough jackets. the person who said that he is the MOST imp person of America took my school bag instead.!!!!!!!!!"

Sorry supporters of Bush!

how can i act like paris hilton?? (poses, sayings, etc.)?

Mzlafflotz

plz no mean answers... im a middle school using my daddys account.

Answer
1.You may want to Become a blonde! Though this step is not completely necessary. If you decide to dye your hair, try a light platinum blonde.
2.[Change your hairstyle all the time. Ever notice how Paris's hair is long one minute, and short the next? If you can't afford to get it cut and get extensions all the time, just make sure you do it differently every day. Alternate from straight to curly, tied up in a high ponytail to in low pigtails. Paris actually has always had her hair very short, but she often wears hair extensions. Try and get a plain extension that you can style yourself.
3.Use a light fake tanner if you are not very tan. Don't put too much on. Don't make it streaky and don't let it turn you orange. The point is to look like you just got back from Barbados, instead of looking like you put on self-tanner.
4.Wear ultra cute shoes all the time. Paris is known for her great shoe collection. You do not always have to wear heels, as long as if they are really cute flats (tennis shoes have to be cute and clean -- not dirty). Most of your shoes should be pink. Pink high heels are essential. If you're not that comfortable with high heels, cute pink flip flops will work too! Try and get a huge selection of shoes, even if they are not very expensive.
5.Make sure your clothes are unique with a little designer flair to them! But make sure whatever you wear, you started it, not anyone else!
6.Go to parties and throw parties. If you make yourself the ultimate party essential, then you will get automatic invites! Be known at a party; as Paris said in episode number 2 of The Simple Life 4: "Don't be a floor hog, stay in the VIP room for a while, or else you will look desperate."
7.Stay single! If you do, you can do whatever you want instead of having one steady boyfriend.
8.Be outgoing, fun, and show confidence. Don't hesitate to liven up a party or draw attention to you or act a bit selfish and bossy.
9.Be carefree. Paris never gives a flying fish about what people think about her. Go ahead and wear a crazy hairstyle, or something that people wouldn't expect you to wear. Be that trendsetter, go do crazy, stupid things, laugh at your mistakes, and you'll be a Paris in no time!
10.Make sure you have those close best friends with you, so you can share the attention; you don't want to seem stuck up, like you're too cool for friends! You always need your girls, to hang with at the parties, talk about those dreadful rumors that just started about you, and of course - the boys! You must have one best friend that you do everything with! Fall out a lot and have a lot of arguments! Be seen everywhere with them, and do exactly the same thing! Never, ever be on your own! This friend is like your assistant, they should follow you and be willing to do anything for you! Don't treat her like rubbish! And make sure she is blond, and wears all the latest fashion!
11.Act like you are a princess! When you need help with something, (which, if you're really like Paris, would be everything.) Playing dumb isn't always bad. It's actually a good flirting technique. It's what Paris does!
12.Have a catch phrase! "That's hot", "that's beyond", and "oh baby" are all good ones! Toss it into any sentence and people will automatically think of you as a little Paris! But whatever you do, don't steal Paris' name; that's just not cool.
13.Try going to lots of parties! Paris is popular for this, and everyone will think that you're a socialite!
14.Develop a love for pink! Everything you own must be pink! Pink is your friend. Like it, and wear it. Everything you have in your wardrobe should relate to pink in some way. Own pink minis, and pink camis. If you are still in school, flaunt your love of pink with folders, bags, pens...all in pink! Make sure everyone knows your fave color!
15.Buy some huge, oversized sunglasses and never take them off! Paris style glasses would be pink with diamonds, or white framed! You can find these in most shops! If you want to accessories further, try cool headbands or cute dangly earrings with some sparkle on them!
16.Learn how to strike one pose for all your photos one that makes you look great! Paris has the same pose in 97% of all her pictures, so you need to do the same. Use one that will always make you look great no matter what you are looking like that day. Everytime someone wants to snap your picture use that pose.
17.Walk around with a huge bag and a chiuahua! This is just like Paris Hilton!

[edit] Tipsâ¢Don't act bratty in public. Only to a single person in privateabsolutely necessary. Otherwise, act like the sweet little princess you really are!
â¢Don't be afraid to shock anybody, that's what will make them talk about you. Now don't go get too crazy, and get drunk, and do stuff you shouldn't be doing! You don't have to do everything like Paris!
â¢Wear designers, but smaller designers like 2bfree and Nicky Hilton are awesome. They state that you have money, but at the same time you're

Kids backpacks for heavy books?

alan

Answer
The only backpacks that hold up are the ones by LLBean. Before we bought the LLBean backpacks, I had to buy new backpacks every year. My teen has had her LLBean backpack for 5 years and I just replaced my 9-year-old's backpack with a bigger one from LLBean as well.

Why do teenagers use small kids' backpacks?

RachelB613

I live in Oakland, CA. I frequently see young teenagers, especially African-American teenage girls (around Claremont Middle School and in some parts of Berkeley) wearing backpacks that seem specifically for younger kids (primary grades; K-3rd). I have seen these girls, and possibly even boys, with Dora the Explorer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Spiderman, Superman, Strawberry Shortcake and various Princess backpacks. They are always small backpacks (about 16") and don't seem like they would be big enough for a middle schooler to fit all their stuff that they'd need for school.

- How do these backpacks fit into the lives of these teenagers I see?
- Do certain groups more than others tend to use them? (i.e. I've never seen Latino kids wearing them, but maybe they do.)
- Why?
- In what ways?
- What function do the backpacks serve?
- What do these backpacks tell us about these kids who use them?
Please do not answer this question unless you know the answer to WHY these specific kids or other kids that you know use these backpacks. I tried to explain earlier... I am a graduate student at UC Berkeley in the Education Department. I doing this investigation as part of an assignment for my Urban Education class. (Please do not post random answers just so you can get points. That is not very helpful to me. Thanks!)

Answer
I see that in Oakland too, mainly around Oakland Tech. It's just a fashion thing really. They've been popular for at least a few years, mainly with the African-American community in Oakland. I guess it has something in common with the Finding Nemo cup I have on my desk.

The amount of books and papers these kids are bringing to and from school really does fit in a little-kid backpack. They'll probably have a notebook or two, maybe a binder, a few pencils, and possibly a book or two. Mostly they can leave things in their lockers. I went to a competetive private school, so I had a lot of books to carry back and forth every day, but public schools often don't have enough textbooks to go around, and don't let kids take them home even if they want to.

Once in high school I went to a debate competition that was held at a public school in Utah, and it started before the end of classes on Friday (since Utah refuses to allow any debate rounds to take place on Sundays). I remember being struck by the fact that many kids when they were leaving for the weekend didn't even have a backpack at all - just a couple books/notebooks tucked under their arm.

The little-kid backpacks serve the same function as any other backpack, and they have enough room for everything that the kids need to bring home with them. So what's wrong with having a backpack with cartoon characters on it?

Question to high school kids? (boys or girls)?

Q. Is high school scary? Specifically freshman year? Are the cliques and the pressure less than, greater than, or about the same as the ones in middle school?

And, in short, did/do you like High School better than Middle School?

You don't have to answer all of those.....I'm just so scared about high school :(

Answer
I'm a freshman, going to grade 10 :)
So i clearly remember my first time.

High school was scary for me at first, you know, all the "big kids." You don't see little kids around you anymore, your not the oldest anymore.. your the youngest an the smallest.
The freshman year was GREATT! it flew by soo fast. It still seems like i started grade 9
The cliques and the pressure.. uhmm it depends which highschool. My highschool, yes there is. But i had no trouble fitting in. Everybody fits in with their own group, and most of the "cliques" are open and friendly about meeting new people.

In short, i LOVE highschool sooo much better than middle school! It is so much more fun.

Best parts:
-The guys are hotter, and you have more options.. since their older and all ;)
- You get more freedom, no more being pushed around.. like going out for recess when its boiling hot or when its freezing
-You can go in and out of the school during lunch
- No more carrying around lunch bags.. you can buy your lunch everyday
-Teachers don't push you around anymore
-you can meet way more friends.

worst parts:
-the work. don't worry, just pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
the teachers aren't going to chase you if you don't hand in an assignment. You fail automatically sometimes, and it's your responsibility.

something you should be careful bout:
-kids do smoke, drink. Just avoid these things. Don't get pressured.

What to put in paty favor bags for middle school age kids?

Sassy&Mand

Lol sorry for asking this if the answer is like completley obvious! Uh around $5 each bag(?). Ideasa for both boys and girls? Ummm? yep! i really need help with this question! and also like places i can get the stuff reasonably priced! Uh the partys weird and it's like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hello Kitty and uhh a little super hero theme! hahaha ahh by the way this is a suprise party for my little sister! So yep post your ideas bellow! Thank you!
Mia

Answer
I suggest planning out who is coming to the party before hand, and giving different gift bags depending on the gender of the person. To tell you the truth, I don't really think you should base the party bags on the theme, because it's just going to be way to hard and the party bags should have things that people actually can use and want to have. (Just a suggestion, I don't mean to sound snobby or offend you)

For girls, go to Target, Walmart or the Dollar Store. Those stores sometimes have some one dollar lipglosses or chapsticks. Walmart has these travel/mini bottles of hair product which would make a great addition to the girls' gift bags. I suggest getting mousse or hairspray. (about 1-2 dollars each) Maybe put in a chocolate candy bar, or in Target there's some body scrubs/washes that can be super cheap. (the body scrubs/washes that I've seen are usually around 1-2 bucks) A great idea is getting nail polish. Wet N Wild and I Love My Nails have nail polishes that are only one dollar. The colors I suggest are dark blue, black, white, or clear. Those are just some ideas. You can pick a few of them that you think is the best and fit in the $5 range, but don't buy all of them.

In Walmart, there are mini tubes of Axe deodorant. I honestly can't tell you the price because I'm a girl and I don't pay attention to this stuff, but it's pretty cheap. At my local Walmart, around the check-out places there are these packs of temporary tattoos. There's 50 of them in one pack and less than $5 per pack, which I think is a pretty good deal. You could put in 1 or more tattoos in each party bag, (I don't know how many people are coming to this party so you can maybe put more in each bag). Also I highly suggest sticking one or two (or more) candy bars. Boys are harder than girls (in my opinion) to think of gifts, so candy bars would be great because who doesn't love candy bars? So yeah, those are my suggestions for boy gift bags.

Hope I helped!

Japanese high school backpack?

Ciara

I want to know where you find the Japanese backpacks that you see in most japanese high schools or in anime? What are they called? How much are they??? They look like a laptop case sort of? Anyone please tell me!:)

Answer
First of all, randoseru which another already told you, is used by elementary school children. So it's not for high school kids.

And not all high school kids have backpacks. Some of them carry a shoulder bag. I don't think there is any specific name for backpacks which SOME high school kids carry.

Are there any Calif Laws regarding the weight a child may bear in their school backpack?

apollosfyr

My 12 yr old daughter must carry all her books to and from school for her 7th grade classes, as they do not have lockers. Her pack is well in excess of 30 lbs. I know it is so, because I have carried 20-25 lb bags of fertilizer, in my work in a garden center daily for many years. It is quite possibly even 40 lbs. Is that legal?

Answer
Didn't know they actually passed a law on this. The first article only mentions a bill. I'm not sure who'd police the law even if it does exist. Would they arrest the child? The teachers? Shut down the school? Burn the books?

The second article is earlier and says it was signed. The links didn't pull the actual law text.

Some common sense is needed and rolling bags is a good idea.

"The Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation says a person should not carry more than 15 per cent of his/her weight."

I've heard the 15% rule elsewhere and it makes sense to me.

Starting High School? Questions? (:?

Samantha

High I'm starting high school soon and im like SUPER nervous :(

1. Any tips about remembering where your classes are?

2. Is it true that you can take your book bag into your classes with you?

3. For gym do you HAVE to swim, if so for how long?

4. Are the older kids mean to the freshmen?

5. All of my friends are going to different hs's... I'm not exactly a social butterfly but i'm not scared of people, any tips on how to make friends quick and easy?

6. And.. what was your first day like? lol (:

THANK YOU SO MUCHHH! =)

Answer
Lol. Don't worry about high school, it's like middle school except with bigger kids lol xD Well. here's my opinions:

1) you can get a map of the school and just mark or color code them in order. If you don't have a map, just try remember the room numbers, it'll help a lot.

2) Sadly and frankly, no, you can't bring book bags xD. Some schools does, but rarely. Book bags allowed is for college =3

3) I don't think you have to swim. Some people can't even swim! And some are afraid of waters. So, it shouldn't really be mandatory.

4) Haha. Nice question. They aren't really mean, but they do sort of try to show off and tease. But depends on your reputation too =o

5) The best way and easiest way to make friends. Is just by start saying "hi" ^^

6) My first day...lol. Everyone was lost, took forever to get to the right classes. And made some "future to be friends". xD It's LIKE middle school accept, you have more responsibility =o

messenger bag for school?

jeveuxtona

i'll be a sophomore this upcoming school year and i'm trying to get some of my school shopping done now before everyone else goes shopping and all the clothes are picked over, haha. :) so i'm looking for a messanger bag to carry my binder and books in. it should be fairly large but not too big, and i'd like it to have some sort of fun quirky pattern or something. it doesn't really matter, just something that'll stand out, that not everyone will have. :) thanks. i like stores like modcloth, free people, urban outfitters, forever 21, mango, nasty gal, love culture, and anthropologie, if that helps!
could you guys put links to specific bags you might use? :)

Answer
messenger bags are so cutte and so in right now if no one has one in your school then be the first and start a new trend

tote bags fro school?

Morgan D

i already asked for stores to get tote bags but i need one that is big because im looking for one that i could use for school so if u could give me a website that would be GREAT thanks!

Answer
depends on how much stuff and how many books you have. but fredflare.com and urbanoutfitters(urbn.com) have some good totes that are kind of quirky if you're into that type of stuff. if you like Andy Warhol i use this one for school and it works great. especially since carrying bags instead of backpacks has never really worked for me.

Snack ideas for Vacation Bible School?

ShineOn

I will be helping out at Vacation Bible School next week and I'm on a gluten free diet plus there is an elementary school girl that will be at VBS that is also on a gluten free diet. I talked to the ladies that will be in charge of the kitchen and they won't be serving any gluten free snacks so I'm planning on bringing a gluten free snack for me and this girl.

What would be some gluten free snack ideas? It has to be something that I can just throw together quickly, no cooking required, and something that doesn't have to be refrigerated.

Answer
Cook ahead (sorry, but these are quick & easy to cook in advance) and pack snacks:
Reminder: Always make sure your work surfaces, utensils, pans and tools are free of gluten. Always read product labels. Manufacturers can change product formulations without notice. When in doubt, do not buy or use a product before contacting the manufacturer for verification that the product is free of gluten
------------
Gluten-free rice crispie squares are fast, easy and oh, so familiar- a gluten-free kid's favorite recipe. Make a batch to take along to sporting events, for sleep-overs or pack a bag for road trips.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:

1 10 ounce box of Gluten-Free Brown Rice Crisp Cereal (Use the entire box)
8 tablespoons butter (1 stick)
1 10 ounce package of marshmallows
1 teaspoon GF Vanilla Extract

Preparation:

Grease a 13 x 9 inch pan
Melt butter over low heat in a large pan.
Add marshmallows to melted butter and stir over low heat until melted. Remove pan from heat. Stir in vanilla extract.
Stir in rice cereal and gently coat cereal with marshmallow mixture.
Pour rice mixture into prepared pan. With buttered fingers press the mixture flat.

Makes 12 2 inch square
------------

Here is a recipe for gluten free chex-style mix that illustrates just how easy it is to substitute gluten free products in classic recipes with great results. This snack mix looks and tastes as good as the original.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour, 5 minutes
Ingredients:

9 cups gluten free chex-style rice cereral
2 cups gluten free pretzels
1 cup pecans OR your favorite nuts
6 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons GF Worchestershire sauce
2 teaspoons gluten free seasoned salt
1 teaspoon gluten free garlic powder
1 teaspoons gluten free onion powder

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 250°

Place olive oil, Worchestershire sauce and seasonings in a large roasting pan and stir to blend.
Add cereal, pretzels and nuts. Gently stir to thoroughly coat all ingredients.
Place, uncovered in preheated oven. Bake for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
---------------
This gluten-free brownie recipe was adapted to gluten-free diets from a recipe which appears in Good Housekeeping Brownies - Favorite Recipes for Blondies, Bars and Brownies - "Basic Cocoa Brownies."
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Yield: 9 to 12 brownies
Ingredients:

Dry Mix: (Makes enough to fill 1 pint jar and prepared, fills one 8x8 inch pan)
1/2 cup gluten-free all purpose flour blend (I used Authentic Foods Gluten-Free Classical Blend)
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon gluten-free baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup PLUS 2 tablespoons granulated cane sugar
Add to dry mix:
1/2 cup softened unsalted butter (1 stick)
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts (or nuts of your choice) - optional

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350° F / 176° C for metal pan OR 325° F / 163° C for glass baking dish.

Grease an 8x8-inch baking pan with butter, coconut oil or cooking spray.
To prepare dry mix:

Place dry ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine. Sift and package in a one-pint decorative jar or can.
To prepare brownie batter:

In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, eggs and vanilla extract. Whisk to combine. Add the entire jar of dry brownie mix and stir to thoroughly combine. Stir in nuts (optional).

Scrape brownie mixture into prepared baking pan.

Bake in preheated oven for about 25 minutes. Watch cooking time carefully. When a toothpick inserted into center of baking dish comes out clean brownies are done. Don't overbake or brownies will be hard! Cool in the pan on a rack for at least 15 minutes before cutting.

Do you know of any good, sturdy, yet cute bag for school?

Nicky

I have looked at Pac Sun where I have found recent school bags, but lately they have failed me. I have checked every store of the sort, Tillys, AE, Hollister, ect. I really need a new bag that is good and can withstand textbooks and binders.

Answer
To withstand textbooks and binders, try looking at a company that specializes in durability and not branding. Pac Sun, et.all are well-known brands but not necessarily known for durability. You can find a lot of 'cute' bags from some more heavy duty companies. Depending on what kind of bag you want, you should check out the following companies:

Timbuk2 - http://www.timbuk2.com - their products are known for being heavy-duty and durable. Their line of messenger bags are what bike messengers the world around use because they are so durable. They've expanded and now have a lot of more 'trendy' bags.

Jansport - http://www.jansport.com/ - they're famous for their school backpacks but they have a great reputation for wear if you get on of the heavier duty ones. Because they have a large school department, they also have some very cute styles.

for the grungy look, try http://www.fatiguesarmynavy.com/store/item/FA1955 where they have some cool heavy-duty fatigue looking bags. For that matter, check out any army surplus store.

Finally, check out REI. They specialize in sports equipment, but their backpacks and book bags are made by sport manufacturers so they will stand up to some very heavy duty wear. http://www.rei.com

for great ideas check out funky, cool and chique laptop bags at hhttp://www.squidoo.com/laptopbag.

Should I Get a rolling backpack for middle school?

Chloe

Hi, Im going into 7th grade (middle school) and they have 6 periods, and no lockers!!!

Should I get a rolling backpack or is that to nerdy, or a good way to get made fun of?

THANKS!!!

PS: Please include links for backpacks I might enjoy!

Answer
No it is best not to. When you leave k-6 where I'm from you are considered to big for a rolling book bag it is seen as childish and yes you will get made fun a lot. To be safe get a regular two strap book bag. normally in 7-12 where there's 6 periods you wont need to pack a lot of stuff. like in grade school on the first day your book bag was seconds from bursting with all the supplies you had inside of it. That is not the case in 7-12 book bags usually nothing at all or at least a pencil, pen and some paper on the first day and you do not need much. With Your school though it might be OK since the no locker thing (not to be mean but what middle school has no lockers are u a private school kid or something just wondering?) I don't have many book bag links Amazon would help probably but any book bag should do from any store that sells them.

Need middle school tips, badly?

Butterfly

Please email me whatever answers you come up with at tweet069101@hotmail.com . I deleted any personal info already liek my first and last name so no one can figure out my identity, the reason I am using that email is because its my main email.

Hey people, its your girl butterfly. I need tips! I am going into 6th (A.K.A middle school) and I need tips. I am gonna be new along with my 8 BFF's and I need tips. Well I wanna choose two elective classes two rate in order from 1-4 and here are my choices:
Art, Chorous, Life management, Exploring technolagy. I am good with computers and drawing. I sing good but dont wanna be in chorus. I wanna choose two electives because I am not good with reading notes and playing them (Band). So anyways, I dont wanna get bad grades and I dont wanna forget all the stuff I need to know. Here are my main questions:

How do I remember my locker combo? How do I decorate my locker in 5 minutes?

How do I keep from getting lost? What if they dont have maps?

How do I keep up with where to go and how to get there? (over 73 different classes and special classes).

What if I have to change in front of a bunch of girls since we have to take gym.

How do I contact my bff's? What if we want to eat lunch together?

Our school colors are tacky! What do I do? I dont look good in orange! (Black, white, orange)

What if teachers are like witches? (Basicly describing my 3rd grade teacher, an old lady with a mean voice).

How do I get enough sleep with such a buisy schedule? (My day is basicly getting up at 4:30 a.m, get dressed, my mom does my hair, btw I am black so thats why. Next I grab all my stuff and get in the car, vroom, errrrrrrhhhhhhh, we're at my dad's house, bam I close the car door and make my way into his living room, its 5:14, he wakes up in 6 minutes, I try to catch some Z's and then, beep beep beep, his alarm clock goes off, oh no I gotta brush my teeth and use the bathroom get on my shoes and grab my bag! We head for my grandmas, my parents have day jobs, we hurry there and she opens the door. I go back to sleep and then eat. Oh crap, my breath smells like do do now. I dont know what to do. Then I get to school. 6 hours and 30 mintues of boring EOG crap. Yawn, I end up falling asleep. "Sit up!" the teacher says but I cant seem to stay awake. Then ding ding ding the bell rings and everyone rushes out of the school. I get picked up by my grandma or grandaddy and we go to the house. Oh no, I have an annoying 7 year old cousin who wont shut up and leave me alone. He doesnt ever stop singing or making noises which is why I couldnt finish my homework yestarday, he kept following me and making stupid noises trying to unlock whatever door of the room I was in. Ding dong ding dong ding ding ding dong, my dads here, yay! Two hours later, my mom gets here, I get on the computer and thats it, then I go to bed at 9:30). I'm buisy dont ya think? Its horrible!

What do I do? Little black kids think I am ugly and might try to kill me! What do I do to stay safe? They can easily bring granades, in fourth grade this 12 year old retard decided he was gonna bring a bb gun, he was supposed to be suspended for the rest of the year, only 10 days! Mother freaking butt holes should have suspended him for longer, he could have killed someone. To believe hes gonna go to my schoo next year.

I have way too many books and way too much homework! How do I narrrow it down?

I cant see the baurd, what am I supposed to do? If I ask someone what it says the teacher might think I am cheating. I don't wear glasses because they dont anything, the glasses I have on my side table just make the words or whatever less fuzzy (no not fuzzy fision, just makes it clearer). I want a certain type of glasses like these:

I really dont wanna ask my dad for glasses. So please try to answer edleast say 4 of my questions.

Basicly the middle school is less than 5 minutes away from my current school, you can just walk there.

Also this is a girls only question but what do I do if my period starts and theres no tisue in the stall and I have no one in the bathroom to ask for help? I dont want to walk around wet knowing the it might bleed through.

Answer
1. Lots of middle schools give you a homework planner. Write your locker combo in one of the reference pages.

2. Decorate: Metal lockers: use magnets to attach a strip of cool-patterned fabric to the back of your locker or inside of door. Plastic lockers: use poster putty (sold at drugstores in paper aisle).

3. If you're lost, ask around. Don't say you're in the youngest grade, just say you're new. Better to duck into a classroom and ask a teacher.

4. You'll eventually learn to memorize your schedule and once you start remembering where you're going, it won't take so long to get there.

5. Changing in front of peers ain't that bad. Just do it. If you're shy, use a bathroom stall or behind an open locker door. When you get to know your P.E. classmates, it's really no big deal anymore.

6. Text them. Email them. IM them. But not when you might get in trouble. Don't test your teachers within the first two weeks, since they may remember you as the girl always on the phone/computer and will be more likely to take them away from you.

7. Your school colors rock. Play up the black and white since you don't like orange with a black headband or black clips and b/w bracelets and beads :P

8. If the teachers are bad, remember other people have to put up with them too. If you're singled out by the teacher and end up being the student he/she picks on, tell your parents and counselor.

9. High school schedules are often worse than middle school. If you want, catch some ZzZz's during the later part of lunch and set a phone alarm before class starts.

10. BB guns won't kill people. Honestly. My brother has one and it hurts, but there are much worse things. If you're worried, take martial arts over the weekends or something - I suggest Tae Kwon Do. Still, don't sweat it much; it's not too likely super disasters will happen.

11. Homework: take good notes, use composition books instead of folder paper in binders (if possible), don't take textbooks home unless you need them for that night, study your NOTES, not your BOOKS, and get a sturdy backpack. Get into the habit of using your locker.

12. Ask for glasses anyway. If you really can't see anything, you'd be hurting your education by not being able to learn to your best ability. If you want a certain style of glasses, just ask! The place selling them may have discounts and sales :)

13. The period thing is a nightmare, but I suggest keeping a small makeup purse with two to three pads/tampons in your locker. If there's no tissue in your stall, just walk out, grab some paper towels from by the sink or tissues from the next stall, and use those until you can get some real pads. <-- Hope that never happens to you.

Good luck in middle school & congratulations on finishing elementary!
MOST IMPORTANT: Have fun, chill out, and go with it :)
