I need to pick out my school bag and i can't decide. I don't want to use a very nice bag bc in the past they have gotten dirty. I want a bag that will hold up and is still cute. Probably a tote bag or like a larger handbag..something along the lines of herve chaplier or longchamp maybe? thank you!
i don't like backpacks. i'm more of a handbag type of person. i am willing to spend money just not a lot like louis vuitton unless it wont break and get ruined.

Answer
Totes are so great for school bags! They let you be feminine yet practical!

It sounds like you have something in mind already.

If you don't want to pay X amount because you know that the bag will get dirty, try going on eBay or Amazon and getting one for way less! Don't be scared of eBay, not everything is used! Lots of stuff comes with tags still attached!

But if you're looking for something a little different, check out Pop Deluxe. http://www.popdeluxe.net

They have great, perfect sized totes that are pretty snazzy! And its where I buy all of mine! I always get compliments!

~Jenn~

My kids' school has to have a mesh or clear backpack and in the past, the clear plastic ones just don't hold up. My 11 year old has a Jansport backpack, but my 4 year old will be starting school in the fall and I'd like to find him a backpack that's his size. The only ones I've ever seen in Walmart hand down to the elementary school kids knees. I would love to find one that could be personalized for him, but that's just the icing on the cake.

Answer
academy. they sell mesh jansport at reasonable prices
also try most athletic stores, and sports stores
but academy will over best price.

How can I keep a protein shake cold?

Billy

I'm going back to school and it would be nice if I could have one of my 2 daily protein shakes at break time in school. Is there any way to keep the shake (milk with banana protein powder) from going off and warm?

Answer
How about one of those 2 drink sized soft coolers and an ice pack. It will easily fit into a backpack and a school locker. They sell them at walmart.

What are some of the main arguments for those who oppose marijuana being legalized.?

school bag essay for kids
on Jane Rhett, the Bag Hag maker | Colorado Central Magazine ...
school bag essay for kids image
Q. I'm writing a college paper on this, and honestly don't see a downside to marijuana being legalized...and I need to know to argue against it in the essay...
Marijuana does not kill brain cells. The claim that marijuana kills brain cells is based on a speculative report dating back a quarter of a century that has never been supported by any scientific study
So far no real arguments here. I'm just gonna make the opposition to it seem stupid, seeing that it already is, that shouldn't be hard.

Answer
They main arguments against (I do not agree with these, but they're the ones I hear most often).

-It makes people stupid
-It makes people lazy
-It will ruin society
-Crime rates will rocket
-We need to think about the kids and if it's legalized it will be easier for them to get it
-It causes medical problems
-people will start driving while stoned.
-there's no way the government could regulate it.

All of these arguments are pathetic. They all have counter arguments as well.

-There have been no tests that show conclusively that weed impairs long term brain functions or saps ambition. There are pot smokers in every industry following every career path. They obviously can't be that stupid or lazy.

-1 naturally occuring plant will not ruin society, it will actually be a boon to the economy, creating thousands of jobs and billions in taxes if legalized.

-Crime rates will actually go down. We arrest people who only deal in marijuana and those who smoke it. There are tons of crimes created by keeping it illegal (trafficking, gamg wars, robberies) that would be stopped if we legalized it.

-Kids already have easy access to it. Black market products are easier for children to get their hands on than government regulated products. In high school I could get dime bags far easier than six packs. Some kids will still get a hold of it, but they already do.

-Yes it can cause medical problems. Not as many as alcohol or tobacco, both legalized drugs in this country. It's my body, so I should be able do what I want with it. Like cigarettes it would be regulated (not in public areas, not in bars or in the workplace, etc). That way I don't harm others (second hand smoke) while I hurt myself.

-People are already driving stoned. If it were legalized I'm sure that the same rules that apply to alcohol would apply to marijuana. You wouldn't be allowed legally to drive while under the influence. Some people would break those laws, but those are the same people who are already breaking the law.

- The government could easily regulate the large majority of marijuana, just like they do with tobacco. Small local growers wouldn't survive for long, because large corporate growers would take over. We'd end up with controlled, taxed, packs of joints that would come from a national supplier. The product would be inspected by the necessary health agencies and probably have added chemicals (just like tobacco cigarrettes). Some small growers would be around with higher grade product, but they'd be higher priced, and taxed even more. People would be able to grow personall amounts, but we're a lazy society and people would rather buy it than grow it. Just like tobacco and vegetables.

Do any of you guys have Anorexia, because I need to know what it's like for and essay for english class?

Kasey S

Does anyone have anorexia? If so, please tell me what its like, what it does to you emotionally, physically, and if it makes you feel self concious in any way.

Answer
Well, I spent my entire summer in a treatment center (64 days) to help push me along my recovery, and I'm still struggling. I think I'd be able to help you.
Background info: I'm 17, and will be 18 in February. Developed it at age 11.
Eating disorders can start at any age, really. As young as five and as old as one may live. Granted, the wisdom elderly learn over time would aid in preventing an ED, but it is not impossible.
Anyway, on to your question.

Emotionally: It can do anything from making you feel on top of the world (when you're the skinniest in the room, or have "properly restricted" for a long time) to making you feel like a piece of shit. This is much more common, because it truly just grates on your self esteem. You feel guilty for even eating one grape if you were supposed to be fasting. It truly takes a toll on your emotions and exhausts you because you're constantly thinking, calculating, and wondering "which has fewer calories, will it make me fat, do I deserve it, do I need it, etc." You lose relationships because you're busy isolating. You can't hang out with your friends because you've got a long night with ED planned, full of restricting and browsing calorie-count.com. From a sexual-relationship perspective, you no longer feel like you are worthy of a partner, and your boyfriend deserves so much better than you. You honestly don't feel as though you should eat. You always are forced to lie to your friends and loved ones because they're worried about you and you don't want to disappoint them. Thus, you are now feeling guilty (again) for your lies. Guilt plays a major factor with EDs. To punish yourself for lying to your family, you restrict more.I could go on and on, but I hope you get the gist.

Physically: There are the obvious constant hunger pangs, but really, you phase them out. You don't notice these things because you're too busy thinking about that one damn grape you ate three days ago. Your joints are consistently sore and you probably develop osteopenia. I did. Things that you could do even when you weighed more, like walking from the parking lot to school, now make you winded. You can't focus and you see horrid spots every time you stand up. You have low blood pressure and you may become orthostatic (difference in blood pressure when standing and sitting). You will get bruises SO easily and people in school will ask you if you've been beaten. Due to the protein deficiency, most likely dark bags will form under your eyes... so you also become skilled in the art of cover up. Sometimes your eyes will also become blood shot. If you fast for several days in a row, your tongue may appear "furry" as the toxins clear your body. Similarly, toxins exiting your skin will cause many pimples. Of course, you'll always be tired and never really have that bright-eyed glow. The word "healthy" will not be used to describe your physical demeanor.

Finally, yes it makes you feel self-conscious. You feel like a pregnant whale on steroids no matter what you weigh.

I hope I've painted an accurate enough picture for you to do your report. Please, I hope this wasn't just you looking into "becoming anorexic". This disease ruins your life, takes up to a decade of it if you do survive, and severely decreases the chance of you ever having kids. I might never hold a baby that I can call my own.

What case for an iPod Touch 4G would you reccomend?

mom2pnuts

I am considering buying an iPod Touch 4G. I would be carrying it in my purse or backpack so am interested in protecting the screen. I also have kids so am interested in protecting it overall from drops. There are SO many cases available out there. It's mind boggling to read all the reviews! I am looking for something that will be durable, not bulky and secure. Plus with reasonably easy access to controls and ports. Please share!

Answer
The screen is pretty durable, but you can add on extra protection with a screen protector, if you'd like. If you're like me, I'm more worried about the back. It's fairly easy for it to get scratched and I always see the fingerprints and any other imperfection on it. If you're looking for absolute protection, get an Otterbox case, but they're kind of bulky, but that is the price of a tough outer shell for your iPod.

Answer
Summer-y:
bright colored (Neon and color blocking)
tribal print
neon tank
floral top
Lace/crochet tops and dresses
nautical shirts
crop tops for sure!!!
Flowy cardigans or lacey/ see through
flowy blouses,
Bodycon Skirts- Good with loose top
White or Khaki capris
White jeans
In detail:
sun dresses<-- Adorable to wear with a cardigan, statement jewelry, and sandals!

Lace/crochet tops, nautical tops (stripes, navy & white) These 2 are my favorite summer trends! Looks good with a statement piece (Long necklaces with a giant gemstone/pendant/design, owls, Feathers! Feather earrings! Gold studded bracelets! Multiple friendship bracelets<- Nordstrom has a lot)

Popular= crop tops/ Dolman tops! Pretty much anything flowy!

Cardigans (one flowy or lacey and another short sleeved sleeved one) You can get them at Forever 21, Macy's, etc. For plain ones you can get them at Nordstrom too!

Shoes:
Sandals: Gold- Steve madden! And now those tan, leather ones with many straps!
Flip-Flops: Striped, colorful, metallic- Havaianas Also try them with a bow/flower in the middle
TOMS- eco, and helps children in LDC's
Sperry- Cute!

Get shoes at:
A.M. Eagle
Urban outfitters
Dillardâs, Nordstrom, macyâs

Stop at Retail stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, or dillard's. I'm pretty sure Nordstrom has TOMS and all of them have havaianas, Steve Madden, and Sperry's and cute clothes!

Stop at stores that buy extra inventory from department stores like T.J. Maxx or Marshalls which also have designer names (Juicy, Guess, Steve Madden, Coach)

Common- Abercrombie, A&F, A.M. Eagle, VS PINK
For trendy stores try Forever21. and other favorite trendy stores of mine are:
Urban outfitters!!
Anthropologie!!!
Free People!!
Zara/ H&M/ Bebe
Vs Pink (This might be common)
Papaya
Mango

Also try H&M, J crew, Gap, which are not that popular, its rather more...classic?
http://www.h&m.com
http://www.jcrew.com
http://www.gap.com

Shop at Retail stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, or dillard's, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th ave. etc....

Shop at online stores like:
http://www.topshop.com
http://www.asos.com
http://www.loveculture.com/

Other suggestions are:
Pacsun
Delia's
Buckle

Oh! and I think that the popular tribal print will be slightly reinvented as a trend for Autumn too!
Uhh Feather, Tribal, Army green will be popular in both seasons(summer/fall)!

Dress nonchalantly. Don't overdo it or under do it by wearing sweats. I think the 2nd and 3rd days are the days you should wear you cute new stuff :D. Be different!
Oh! I was going to add... you should also buy cute jackets like white jean jacket, cropped jean jacket, etc over dresses (very cute) or tanks that don't meet dresscode and Miss me jeans, uggs, Juicy couture, Pink hoodies, Coach bags are also popularï

I'm a first time teacher and I don't know what is usually taught to kids about art in school. I used to do volunteer work for an organization and taught art though i have to admit my lesson was a bit chaotic.

Answer
Depends what grade level you teach.

For middle years and high school I start with drawing from nature. We go out on the first day of school, first art lesson, with sketch books and pencils, and draw from nature. Leaves, dandelions. Kids concentrate on drawing the details. Drawing life sized or larger. Putting in detail.

I tell them they cannot draw what they can't see. We write that on the cover of their sketchbooks. Also _- "Draw what you see, not what you think you see."

Sometimes if the weather is not very nice, or if we want to decorate the classroom we start with colouring fall leaves. I give them a cutout of a fall leaf ( cut these out ahead of time, or make some patterns out of heavy paper, and let them trace these -- this ensures that they have a leaf that is as big as the piece of paper and not some tiny thing (I use 9x 12 inch paper so they are large leaves). I talk about fall colours and how these are supposed to be wonderful blended colours. If you children have oil pastels, this is a wonderful project for using these, and learning how to blend with them. Wax crayons also work well. If you have some autumn leaves already, bring them in and look at them, especially if they are from some trees which have a variety of colours on just one leaf. Some times I give them some guidelines such as pick five colours to use -- ie, red, red-orange, olive green, mustard yellow, line green, and then maybe black for the veins. They pick the colours, not you. Have them consider the way the colours go together. If you have some imaginative kid who makes his fall leaf purple, baby blue, pink, and mauve -- that is good too. We are learning to use col or and the material and to use imagination.

For little kids, like grade 2, this leaf lesson is a good one too. But I usually start with colour with them, not with drawing skills. Maybe you can find a video about mixing colours. You could show them how to mix colours with food colouring in clear glass dishes on an overhead projector. Then you could practise this in class with liquid tempera -- maybe make a col or wheel with the primary and secondary colours. Mixing paint is fascinating for all levels (I do this with high school and middle years classes too -- but use tertiary colours for them, and acrylic paints or oil pastel, or even coloured markers-- but we do this a little later in the year.)

Another good project with the little kids dealing with colour is to have them bring a bag of stuff of just one col or of thing (ie all yellow stuff) that they are going to use to make an abstract collage. (You will have to have some stuff on hand too, as there are always kids who don't bring things, and it gets worse as they get older.) Kids pick different colour. They make their collage on construction paper of the same colour. For example the kid bringing yellow might have brought some unpopped popcorn, a bunch of yellow bread clips, a yellow pencil, several yellow cupcake papers, a yellow crayon, some yellow material, some yellow thread, some yellow lego, the box from Juicy fruit gum, some yellow silk flowers, some broken bits of plastic that is yellow that they found in their toy box, some elbow macaroni, a yellow measuring spoon. Emphasize that they are not to bring good stuff (you might not use the lego) as you are going to glue it onto the collage, and so you don't want valuable stuff. This is a recycle project as well, you see. The whole "gather stuff from home" business is good for kids as it helps them remember directions, gives them responsibility, and gets some home involvement in their school projects. Kids create an abstract collage with some or all of the junk that they have collected. You teach them the word "monochromatic" as well. Kids also learn something about sharing as there is bound to be some kid who has enough for 6 kids, and some kids who show up with nothing, so the other kids shares, and gets to be a bit of a hero.

The key to avoiding chaos is to have the materials ready ahead of time. Have an example of the project to show what sort of thing we are aiming for (if you are doing the project, especially for younger students, don't make it too sophisticated. In later years, you will save good examples of student work to show. Put the directions on the board. For going out to do drawing, establish rules ahead of time (ie walking quietly, heading out as a group, no throwing rocks, whatever seems appropriate) and be sure everyone has their materials before you leave the classroom. Take a couple of extra pencils along, and a pencil sharpener. Don't allow much erasing.

my backpack weighs 25 lbs. i take home almost everything every day. how do i make it not weigh so much?

asking ans

my parents throw a fit when i come home from school because my backpack weighs a ton. i take home almost everything everyday.

i need to find a way to make my backpack lighter but still take home what i need to do my homework.

plz help!!

ps. im in seventh grade and if u have any more organization tips too that would be great!!!

thanx.

Answer
Have you asked if your school will lend you an extra set of textbooks to leave at home? Then you can have one to keep at school and another to use in doing homework. A lot of schools are allowing this option because so many children are damaging their backs.

Otherwise, see if you can purchase extra copies of the books to keep at home. Then you should be able to get rid of most of the weight.

Also, some students use rolling bags, like the kind that pilots and stewardesses and other frequent travellers use for their carry-on luggage on airplanes; they have wheels and a handle that can be pulled out to use or pushed in to save space. They may be a bit pricey, but it is much easier to push that weight around than it is to lug it on your back.

For the future, you might suggest that your school look into getting copies of textbooks on CDs for students to use at home. I know some kids who have classes where there are textbooks that are kept in the classroom for classroom use and the students are given the choice of a heavy textbook or a CD to use at home for homework. You might try suggesting that idea to the schoolboard. (They may really like it if you mention that it will lessen the likelyhood of them being sued for injuring some poor student's back from such heavy loads.)

Good luck.

I'm going into year 10 on Friday, I just wanted to know what I need to take because we'll just be doing 2 periods of tutor room, 1 of assembly and 2 of normal lessons.

Answer
I'm going into year 10 too :D

Well i'm just taking my pen and lunch card and money and locker key and my bag for when i get new books. You won't need much because you will be getting new books anyways (well i presume so, we do at my school) so just like stationary and anything else you might need or want to bring.

Answer
-Usually Ti83 graphic calculator Texas Instrument safest choice lots of schools won't let you use anything else
-Graph paper
-Binders
-loose leaf(lots)
-dividers(pocket ones best)
-Pencils
-Pencil crayons
-Pens Red, black, blue (all these colors for correcting)
-Highlighters
-White out
-Dictionary
-Geometry set (get a good one its better to get an expensive one once then 5 cheap ones after they break)
-Ruler
-Folders to bring work home rather then dragging whole bag home
-Reinforcements
-One of the whole punch things that go on the rings of your binders are always handy

Notebooks with subject dividers with a folder for handouts works well too.

I want to look unique but well put together. I'm going to high school this year and I want to go outside my comfort zone.
I dress in skinny jeans and tees but I want some dresses and girlie stuff.
Also should I wear heels?

Answer
well i dont reccomend heels, personally,
i know the kids at my school are always like, "why are you wearing heels, lalalalala??" i get so annoyed i just dont wear them, but feel free to
it depends though, my campus is very spread out. theres over 10 buildings, none of which the numbers coorespond

(1 will be in the front of the school, while 10 is completely diagonally across, with the gym to navigate around. its horribly spaced out)

if its spaced out a lot i dont reccomend it simply because of hurrying up stairs and across the campus to get to class in five minutes(me and my friends had to literally power walk/jog basically every day to get from first to second hour, and we always were at least 15 seconds late despite our best efforts)

right now though id reccomend....
1. maybe a blazer to wear over spagetti strap tanktops and stuff
h&m has good ones, and the miley cyrus/max azria line from walmart has a black one thats more of a t-shirt material. i bought one the other day and that was 14$

2. a fake leather jacket of some sort. you can push the sleeves up too since its not too heavy, and i bought a really cute brown one from h&m two days ago for 49 dollars.
h&m has the style i bought in brown, a very light grey, and black

3. boots. i just love boots personally. i have these in both black and brown and they're really cute on.

4. use over sized purses as your backpack, if you're worried about size you can switch binders to folders for most classes, since a lot of times in highschool teachers tell you that you will need a 2 inch binder, and you only ever keep old graded papers in it (wait a month or so first though to see if you'll need a binder or not for each class)
i reccomend one in black or brown if you want it to match the majority of your wardrobe

What is it like in Disney World in February? weather.. crowds?

Monica

I have been to Disney world 4 times so far (once when I was in 7th grade, 9th grade,11th grade, and then in 2011 with my husband! However, each time was either in the summer or fall. I'm going February 2013. I just wanted to know whats its like in Disney at that time. We are going from the 9th until the 16th! I always wore shorts or jeans. I wondered about yoga pants or those sweatpants that you can get at like Walmart with characters on them... since I heard the weather is warm in the day and cool at night. How is the crowds around that time? What to pack? What to bring to the park? Any tips on going? We have no kids (my 13 year old niece is coming but she will be with her parents). We will be there for Valentine's day... I want it to be special! My husband is in the military and we both run a group home for at risk teens.. we barely get anytime for ourselves and can not wait until this vacation!!

Answer
The crowds should be good then. February is a good time to go, if you avoid the President's Day holiday - and you'll be there the week before that. You should have relatively short lines and low crowds.

On average, the high in Orlando is mid-70's in Feb. The average lows are in the low-50's. So you'd probably be good with light pants and short-sleeve shirts. Maybe a jacket or hoodie, especially in the mornings and evenings.

I usually bring a small backpack into the park with snacks, water bottles, sunglasses, a camera, a poncho (we tend to go in fall though). That would be a place to keep a jacket or hoodie as well.

For a nice restaurant, consider Coral Reef Restaurant or Le Cellier in EPCOT, Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios, California Grill at Contemporary, and Victoria & Albert's at Grand Floridian.

How do I handle all the baggage and my child when flying alone?

Amanda R

I am going to be flying non-stop to Colorado from St. Louis in a couple weeks. I will be flying alone with my one year old. I need to take his carseat(checking) and stroller(would like to keep it so I can use it in the airport so I guess it is like a carryon but it will be held at the front of the plane), and a suitcase (will be checking), and a diaperbag that I will be carrying on. My question is how am I going to handle all of this stuff when I pick it up at baggage claim and until I check it through? Will there be people that can help me get my bags or not?
Will they let me check the stroller so I can have it plane side?

Answer
I'm an ex-F/A who flies now alone with my three between Europe and California about every six months since each was about 4 months old. We also take shorter trips a lot.

1. I don't take a purse. I take a small fanny pack or long strapped small bag with my essentials and a backpack. It's a bit bigger than the standard size (I have one just for flying) and fits the onboard limits. With just one child, consider leaving or packing the diaper bag.

2. Attach the carseat to the stroller. Use bungee cords and perhaps try them back-to-back. Another option is to check/leave the stroller and put the carseat on "wheelie" cart. Make sure it's all metal and there is a gadget sold that fits several carseats. http://www.amazon.com/Gogo-Kidz-Travelmate/dp/B000MWZWV8 It's available on other sites too but that's just to show you what it is. I've done fine with an *all metal* cart and extra bungee cords. My old wheelie from my first airline found a second life by carting carseats!

3. Make sure you have a good carrier for your baby. Forget those fiddly Bjorns and use a wrap, sling or pouch. A Mei Tai or something like an Ergo carrier works well too. Carriers should last to at least 2 years. My 3 year old can still go in her sling. Great for calming babies onboard or getting sleeping children off the aircraft. Check out http://www.peppermint.com or http://www.kangarookorner.com for ideas (I don't work for those sites-they actually represent multiple companies).

4. In baggage claim, load the bags, put the carseat on the top along with any hand luggage and the stroller and push it *all* while the baby goes in the carrier. I've managed alone through customs and two other children this way.

For the record, I've never used a skycap. They're not used for international but use one if available. Tip well so that they'll be nice to the next family ;)

What I do with the backpack is that I wrap diapers, extra clothes, etc. and rubber band them to make room. I bring a cloth bag (the kind you buy in grocery stores as an alternative to plastic and paper) and use that onboard for diaper changes, etc. (so I'm not hauling the whole backpack around). I simply put what I need for each trip to the lav.

I have an article on flying with children that I put on a blog to share with other parents. It's totally non-commercial and sort of my own personal Mitvah. Feel free to check out;
http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com for more details on carseats, packing, booking and other tips.

Otherwise, have a good trip (and be grateful you don't have to face Customs!)

How to get family to realize I'm not JUST pregnant?

Amber E

I am 16 weeks pregnant with the first grandbaby on my side, and the first in a while on my husband's side. I love my family and I am grateful that they want to be involved in my baby's life--but they are overdoing it just a bit. For example, my birthday was Saturday, and I got a HUGE backpacking baby carrier thing. It's going to be AWESOME to have in about 2 years, but until then there won't be a baby and then it will be too small to be using it. So does anybody have advice about either how to get over this or how to kindly tell my family (and his) that I'm more than just a baby-carrier?
I'm not trying to be whiny, unappreciative, or the primadonna center of attention. It's not that I needed something big and expensive for me. I love that everyone wants to know about the baby and be involved. It's just that (besides the morning sickness) I don't even feel or look pregnant yet, but it's all anyone else acknowledges.

Answer
I so know what you mean. Its obnoxious. You just kind of have to deal with it. I called my husband a few weeks ago balling telling him that all I am now is a vessel to carry our child in. i dont know about your family but with mine I dont think it will get better till the baby is here

What are things we dont think about when we see a veteran?

I need to know some good things to write about them for a essay .
Titled :Why we should honor our veterans

So I need some Ideas why we should honor our veterans and somethings about them we dont think about when we see a veterian and what we could do to better reconize them for it

Thanks for reading and hopefully giving me and answer thanks

Ps: Please make sence and clearly detail it as this is mostlikely going in my story and this book is going national to judges thanks so much

Answer
As a veteran myself- When I first signed up for the Navy we always have in the back of our minds that we will be fine, we will come home when our time is up and in the meantime see a lot of the world and party, We were young and not much else was on our minds,
We dont realize that as one person in the military we have no real idea what the impact that we will make on ourself, or on the rest of our country, Myself at age 18 I was in the Navy, when alot of my buddies were partying dating girls, all the fun stuff that teenagers love to do, and I was standing at "Parade Rest", or marching to breakfast or "chow" at 4:30 in the morning, After all the bootcamp and schools I was assigned to a ship, Now that thought again about only being one person, but if the other "one persons" that made up the crew of the ship, if they were not there the ship would have no purpose, we made up the crew that in turn had to run and drive and maintain the ship,
When we would go on our cruise it was usually going to be about 6 months at least, so the married guys, the guys with gf's, or even those with family close by would have to tell the loved one "Good Bye" for 6 months, Imagine yourself not seeing your BF or you Folks, or your BFF and not being able to see them any or all for a least 6 months, there are times that alone can be hard to handle, In the process of that Cruise we wake up and look around and nothing but ocean all around, day in and day out, week after week Ocean all around, cut off from the rest of the world, even mail takes a bit longer, Now one thing I havent mentioned yet - Kids, they are the ones that dont understand why the parent is not home yet for weeks on end, and the parent missing the first words, the first steps, all the little things that some take for granted can mean so much to a military person half a world away, I know when I was overseas I couldnt wait to get back home during the summer so I could mow the lawn, I dont know why but I really associated that with being at Home, Hey there were times I even missed something as simple as washing dishes, I am sure each person that has served has their own little things they miss, but the one thing we all have or had in common - The United States Of America and all the wonderful people that make up the Best place in the world to live, We have such a wonderful way of life here and so many take it for granted or feel the world owes them,
Being a Veteran, my time in the military made me do things I never really wanted to do- the first of which I am very glad I did and that was GROW UP, and learn to take responsibility for my actions, another lesson learned was I am glad I dont live in one of these 3rd world countries we see in the commercials for starving children, Being in the military is a sacrifice for many people joining, but what many dont see is the sacrifice made by the gf's, wive's, and children, A Mom who has to be Mom and dad and still maintain a household,
Now I was on a ship I had it pretty well all things considered, The Veterans that are coming back from Iraq in Body Bags because they gave the Ultimate sacrifice, maybe they had kids or a wife or gf that will have the last time they held each other or spoke to hold on to as the final memory, or there are others that come home only to be confined to a bed or a wheelchair for the rest of their life, that is a sacrifice like no other, If I wasnt able to get up and do things on my own - If I had to call someone everytime I needed something because I am missing both legs, or I may still have them but I cant walk since the Humvee hit a landmine, or if I didnt have use of my arms so I could remind those I love with a hug, That would be a sacrifice, I would actually rather be dead if I couldnt hold the ones I love,
So actually the sacrifice comes in many more ways than we stop and think about, Maybe you know someone whos dad was in the military and they had to move around alot, have to make new friends every 2 or 3 years, thats another we dont stop and think about, From the Active Duty person Overseas, or the family without a parent for 6 months or 2 years till whenever they get home, the children who meet their dad after he comes home and they have no idea who he is because hes been gone so long, the sacrifices are many and made by many, But one thing they all have in Common - We do it because we Love our country and we love our Freedoms that we enjoy,
Remember, there may be a vet you know, many came home with PTSD, many more that probably had thought of or even attempted suicide for reasons we will never know, and sadly there are the ones that succeeded, I think we all go in feeling like it will never happen to us, we will be fine, But then someday the reality sets in, and that is something we can all see if we turn on the evening news and give thanks to the Veterans of the United States for all they have done and continue to do then the rest of our countr

What are some of the main arguments for those who oppose marijuana being legalized.?

Do you want to be taxed for using plastic bags like the Irish are?

school bags with trolley

belladonna

Plastic Bag usage is a big issue. Do you want to take action or let the Government charge lots more taxes as the Irish Government does? The only real way to do prevent more taxes and charges is to use hemp or cotton bags, use canvas rucksacks, shopping trolleys or not to use bags at all.
WHY?
Plastic Bags: There are a lot of reasons given why people 'like' plastic bags. However, they still never decompose no matter how many times you use them. This is compounded when people tie their rubbish into plastic bags. If you insist on using plastic bags you will be charged high taxes for doing so. So re-use as many times as possible then take them supermarket to be recycled.
Biodegradeable Bags/Bioplastics: Polylactic acid (PLA) a biodegradable polymer derived from lactic acid. These vegetable based bioplastics biodegrades quickly under composting conditions and does not leave toxic residue. However, bioplastic have own environmental impacts caused by manufacturing and disposal of end product. Again you will be charged for these impacts and taxed
but on the plus side biodegradable bags (from potato and corn starches) are a new thriving industry
Paper Bags. Great if singly composted. In land fill can take years for layers to decompose. Still an organic material. But there is cost of production, costs to environment of pulp trees (monocultures, loss of habitat, etc) costs of recycling/disposal. Again you will have to pay for these production costs and disposal costs and taxed.
In UK instead of stop supplying plastic bags you get rewards for bringing your own. Money back, green points. Even with supermarket home delivery See Tesco. This has not been effective so we are back to taxes. In New Zealand Cloth bags are already promoted and sold in supermarkets. However this is not stopping plastic bag useage.
France is banning plastic bags 2007 others are moving towards it. The most effective is taxing plastic bag use. If we do not take action we will be taxed as the Irish are for using plastic bags. Effective as a decrease of 90% plastic bag use in Ireland.
****Jet 20 a good question For a local government the issues are that plastic bags account for 8,000 tons of waste generated in Paris each year, at a cost of more than $2 million. And burning plastic bags to dispose of them poses a health hazard. They never decompose so bulk out landfill sites. How much money is spent by your local council retrieving discarded plastic products and taking them to the tip? If these biodegrade then they would not be a problem. No litter collection, less refuse collection, less tax too. Local councils charges because they are charged by central government who in turn has to pay penalties for landfill (charges)
********Chuck T the disposer will be your local council/authority. Landfill taxes/refuse collection taxes, central government penalties etc etc. Then they pass these taxes on to YOU. The rate payer. Burning plastics is not an answer - toxins are harmful to man and environment.
***** Chuck T. What is proper disposal of plastics. No landfill space left. Can't burn. Don't decompose.??
******* AuntB93 Yes I use cotton bags too. In UK the stores have tried to reduce plastic bag usage with points, money back and in store recycling. This has not been effective enough. There are no more landfill sites. Look at current position of ITALY and rubbish due to this issue. NO I don't want to be taxed either but it is very effective method easy for Governments to apply and unless we act and reduce it ourselves (canvas or cotton bags) then they are left with ban plastic bags or tax. Public outrage or More Revenue? Wonder which your government will chose?
***AuntB93 We cannot get rid of plastics so we have to recycle them so many items are made from the recycled plastic. If they were made out of wood they would return to the earth by decomposing eventually. Again processing and disposal is expensive in cash and environmental terms.

I totally agree governments waste money, resources and creativity. I would suggest people power. If everybody took canvas/cotton bags the market would have no choice but to act responsibly. There is lot of power in market solutions that is not available to the average man. Have a look at some of the ways you are 'persuaded' to buy something. Take that choice away from the market. Put it firmly back in the hands of the person. It is so easy: everybody takes a canvas/cotton/hemp bag.

Answer
In Britain I used a market basket, tried to use it here in college and was told it was against store packaging policies. Then came fabric bags, I use these as often as possible. When I was in Canada, I lived near pulp mills. Don't ever let anybody tell you there's less pollution in paper! You haven't seen cyanide dumped in the water and sulphur dioxide in the air, or sugar maples and spruce trees replaced by fast growing tree weeds like cottonwood, poplar, silver leaf maples, Manitoba maples and Siberian elm. Plastic bags are reusable and recyclable, but also way overused. Our local store insists that New York law says they have to put a six-pack in one as well as all sorts of other things which have their own packaging and handles that are easier to grab and support than the flimsy bags which break. While taxes may be an incentive to change our government more often abuses such things without any real change taking place. We have bottle refunds and just look at all the bottles and cans which litter our highways, while the state uses the surplus collected as a slush fund. Stores also regularly abuse the law, charging for containers they will refuse to accept returned. Can you imagine what happens when they extend this to bags? And they'll still pack bags within bags within bags. I regularly ask for paper rather than plastic only to be told, "we don't have that", or bring my own bags to be told,"those aren't ours, we can't use them", or distinctly look for boxes to carry heavy items (they don't break or tear like paper or plastic bags) only to find any the store had are in their dumpster broken down underneath smelly and rotting trash. Most of these stores are following policies of major chains rather than small grocers that are locally owned like there were once upon a time. The chains are always looking at the bottom line which means volume, volume, volume, rapid turnover of inventory, and the necessary discouragement of theft, pilfering, and tampering (understandable, unfortunately), so things are grossly over packaged in large plastic, break resistant displays, or each individual piece separately plastic bagged and cushioned in form moulded styrofoam in plastic lined boxes with shrink wrapped plastic seals and tons of tape. Did you know it frequently takes getting through no less than four seals to open a simple bottle of pills? And once opened less than 1/3 of the bottle or vial contains pills, the rest is packing. All this goes somewhere, we pay taxes on the disposal. Yet nobody ever seems to attack this waste, they just call for more of it by yet more government regulations. The Irish and most other peoples throughout the Commonwealth, have very different attitudes to law and respecting people and the environment than Americans do. Moral education is part of their normal school curriculum. They regularly see more benefit from their taxes than we do, and are more amenable to paying and establishing taxes as a vehicle of change. It won't work here until we're ready to work at it.

Proper disposal of plastic is to RECYCLE it,and I don't mean use it as a trash bag! I've seen porches built from recycled plastic and beautiful carpets woven from it. The fact that plastic doesn't degrade and deteriorate can be as positive as it is negative. It can save an awful lot of trees, and prevent a lot of environmental poisoning. Simple answers aren't always the easiest. And we can't expect government to do it.

I live in a rural area, am no longer able to drive, and have extremely limited shopping options since my wife works nights. If I boycott, I don't shop, and the store which is overcrowded doesn't miss me in the least. So should I pay more?

What was your crazy experience in a foreign country?

truthseeke

Like when you went to a foreign country what happened to you over their that was fun, crazy, something that you never been or saw before tell me your experience and what country was it and what did you miss when you left that country.

Answer
I have 3 actually. All Missionary work. 1. Mexico, staying with many other people and in a triangle; housing, ocean & very old, worn out bull fighting ring, people selling fish tacos w/lime juice. Exquisite. Low tide, full sun, very easy to fool self, on vacation at beach resort. Sad, and horrific and glad bull ring ended. 2. Nigeria, arrival day; seeing Military guards w/AK47's & 45's on hips, going through customs, I was the only one not open to scrutiny...I used a Military bag instead of a suitcase, as the others did. Two torrential rains, per day, our car flooded, ankles soaked. At bunk house later in the day; hundreds of people ran up to visit and help us unpack our 5 cars, even tiny children. All so loving. I still miss that. Smiles from ear to ear. Joyfulness of small children. 3. Holland, felt like coming home. Van Gogh Museum was the best for me (my favorite artist of all time, to me much better than the famous Rembrandt). MY opinion! No mail thanks! Teen guys trying to eat glass, drumming on a bucket outside Grand Central Station; concerts in Rembrandt Square; they (singers, musicians, etc) would go door to door (cafe to cafe which are side by side with tables & umbrellas), people giving them $; a bus, trolley, train every 15 minutes...grab the train & GO TO PARIS, FRANCE! or a boatride to Denmark or the train on to Germany. Oh what opportunities. Funnest thing done there, was 3 things. Cheese Factory, oh how can I get it into my suitcase, was my thought. Must weight 20 lbs. The Shoe Factory, made shoes of wood, from a hunk lying on the floor. A size 10 would end up being size 86 there. The Chocolate Factory was closed, the Pewter Factory was only making spoons, cool. One working Wind Mill was grinding seeds. Now the funniest was this: We (2 of us) switched a bedroom with one of the guys in our STORM Team. We switched everything, across the hall while he was out "seeing the city" for the last time. Even the door # was switched. But, we kept it all, just like he left it; you know, bed unmade, stuff lying around etc. Then we 2 left the building. Came back later when we felt he would be "asleep"?...no way! He waited for us to return. He had gone to the front desk, demanding his stuff be returned, or calling the Police. Finally, everyone knew it was a practical joke on him. He began to search the floor, and found all of his stuff across the hall. He was laughing when we arrived back and so thankful to us. We had no idea; outside the window was a huge Cutty Sark in the channel, in front of the Maritime Museum. He was able to see the City of Amsterdam, from one end to the other; people driving, walking, boats, birds, tree tops.....when before all he could see was the inside court yard of a 6 story building. A Practical Joke, which turned out super for everyone concerned. We truly miss those wonderful times.
So, IF YOU ever have the chance to visit Europe, GO! Borrow $100 from every single person you know, each family member, all your college, high school friends and GO! Find a reputable place to stay; we stayed at the DTS with YWAM, across from the Maritime Museum. A huge, old, stone building; full of Maritime history. Visit every Museum, walk, travel & take tons of Traveler's Cheques + Cash, store it in several places. Stay up late, go to McDonald's, Dominoe's Pizza next door and 31 Flavors, Baskin Robbins, across the channel and stay out from under eaves; full of spiders. Eat well, and ENJOY!
bye.........zzscape.

what do girls do when a boy goes into their school bag and finds pads and tampons.?

I was at school and all the boys went into my bag and saw tampons . It is really embarrasing . I dont no what to do.

Answer
I'd be watching their dumb reaction. If they act out, it's because they're big babies, not even close to being ready to date. It's stupid to joke about that, moreso in that it shows them up as being really immature.
You can see why it's said that girls mature faster than boys...

Please give me many good tips to get girlfriend in High School. I really need help?

BlackKnigh

Hello everyone. I am Japanese boy and live in US for 6 years, and I am junior in high school right now. And this year, I decided to get girl friend.

I don't hang out with only Japanese people. I always hang out with more foreign friends.I have pretty good grades in school, some Honor classes. I always wear nice and bright colored collared shirts(light blue) with jeans or khakis. I always take shower and put perfume. I think I am always clean and fresh, but I have one difficulty. I am not talkative and funny person. I can talk with girls, but I cannot continue talking with both boys and girls.I am not that shy. I always try to talk longer, but the conversation always stops.

This year, there is one girl who had birthday. She is sophomore and she is in same band class and Fencing team. I really like her. We actually talk and she is my good friend. We never went to the parties or go out together because I have friend, but I don't have group in school I am more independent person. So I never when to the parties and like that.

So on her birthday,in the morning, I gave her a "pink a-gel pencil" which is pretty good Japanese pencil and I am also using it, and two flavored japanese Eraser (orange and Coca-Cola), and hand made birthday card in the clean paper bag. This birthday card was pop-up card and I actually took long time making it from regular paper and it is so decorative with color pencils and picture of birthday cake. After I gave her a present, she said "thank you" and hugged me.

Next day, she was using my pencil, but she didn't say any comment about my birthday card :(
I didn't ask about it because I don't want to be persistent guy.

So I want to know how to make our relation closer from this point. I think she doesn't hate me, so I think it is good thing.

Please give me many good examples or tips to get foreign girlfriend in High School!!

Thank you very much!
I am appreciate.

Answer
Maybe your birthday card was so good she thought it was store bought :)
Spend more time with this girl, ask her questions about relationships (ex: what do you look for in a relationship? have you ever been in one?) depending on her answers and her body language toward you, you should hold her hand or something.
Tell her about where you are from, it makes you seem exotic and a girl will like that!

be_my_gumb

it will be october 31st, a school day so no kids should be in the park, but obviously halloween..so you never know about the kids. is it tacky? what are some general rules for going about this in a park? AND! (last question, promise) what would be great gift bags for everyone showing up (or do you not do that)...i'm horrible at planning a wedding.

Answer
Wedding receptions at parks is a great idea. I've been to a few. Just make sure the park isn't reserved for someone else so you know you will have a place to hold your reception. If not, then make reservations. You might have to pay, but it is WAY cheaper than a reception center.

I like the trick-or-treat bags idea, if that's really something you want to do.

What are good end of the basketball season gifts?

Have you ever given a used thing for a Chrstmas present?
It is in good working condition..
The only bad thing about it is -- not a brand new.

Thanks guys, I will consider your advices.

Answer
I am an American living in the Philippines I don't do Christmas but used to, and if I did now and someone gave me a used 12 string Guitar, It would be the 2nd best gift I ever received (the first being a 20cent bag of candy from my dad when we couldn't afford it)

I would think that if you know the person wants a lap top and can use the computer for school, fun, business then I would say go for it and just put a note with the Christmas card saying

"you deserve better but this is all I could do".

I have given used before and one of the best gifts I ever got was when I was 12 years old, my mom gave me a used guitar (my very first one).

If some one would snub a GOOD USE any thing, then they don't even deserve a NEW ONE.

is the Philipines effected by the chinese milk poison?

Mintee

I have several philipino products that have milk or milk products in them, I was wondering if their factories use or import some stuff from china to produce their canned goods with milk in it.. Are they pretty much safe?

Answer
I don't know if there's been reports in the Phils. that someone got sick drinking milk or eating products that possibly contains melamine tainted milk as ingredients. Alaska milk and other products produced in the Philippines are safe though.

Here's a part of this news about melamine tainted milk:

"09/24/2008 14:44

... Senator Pia Juliana Cayetano, the head of the health and demographics committee, says that there could still be problems because of "the unsafe practice of some retailers who repack powdered milk, which is then resold in small plastic bags to unsuspecting mothers who feed the milk to their children". Partly for this reason, the mayor of Manila, Alfredo Lim, has ordered inspections in stores that sell generic powdered milk.

All over Asia, from Japan to Thailand, there is great concern over cookies, ice cream, donuts, and any other product that might contain contaminated Chinese milk. Children are being taken to the hospital for examinations (in the photo). As a precaution, schools and stores are avoiding certain products: just a rumor is enough to prompt recalls, even of products from multinational companies, like M&Ms and Oreo cookies..."

Latest update about Filipino made milks:

"GMANews.TV - Tuesday, September 23

MANILA, Philippines - Alaska Milk Corp., makers of brand names under Alaska, Carnation, Alpine, Milkmaid and Liberty, on Tuesday assured the public that its products are safe from the toxic melamine substance."

I have 3 kids ages 8, 7, 6 and so far i have spend $65 on just school supplies, i still need clothes and shoes and backpacks and so forth so how much do you spend?

Answer
I have 2 kids (7 and 5) and I'm hoping that I can get by with spending $300 together for clothes, shoes, and school supplies. Right now most of the supplies are on sale for like $.15, $.25, and $1.00. Book bags usually cost us around $15-$20. I do still buy all their clothes from like Wal-Mart, Target, or other stores if I can get them on sale or decently cheap especially since by Christmas they'll probably need new clothes anyways. I'm also hoping I can find shoes on sale at Shoe Carnival or some other good shoe store.

Approximately how much should I spend on college dorm essentials & whatnot?

Z

I know I'll be purchasing a new laptop so that'll be a couple hundred, but what about other things like bedding, microwaves (my school allows it), printer, backpack, bathroom items & other essentials? I don't want to spend more than $1000 but I think it'll happen anyway. How much did you spend?

Answer
both my kids didn't need a printer.

Might is highly recommend over the counter medications and first aid. and that can really add up. get every over the counter medication you could possibly need.

don't think we spent that much. look for bargains. bedding and microwave can run a lot or not. we got a great bedding set at Kohl's for a great price. More stuff for dorms will come out in July. look for sales.
