Help on finding a nice school bag?

Natasha Ma

So, I've been scavenging the internet for a good school bag, but I think I need a little help. I'd like either a cute backpack or a nice tote bag that's big enough to hold all of my books. I was looking at the Vera Bradley bags and really liked the size of the bags, but I'm not so into the patterns.
Here are some questions that I'd be very appreciative for you to answer:
What are the best measurements for a tote bag? (I don't want something GIGANTIC, just a nice, spacey size that will hold all of my things.) THIS IS THE INFORMATION I NEED THE MOST.
What's your favorite type of bag to buy for school?
Some links to bags you would suggest?
Thanks so much!

Answer
i really like the vera bradley backpacks.

What do girls in highschool use as 'backpacks'?

Dat One Gi

I don't have any other girls to really ask. I'm going into grade 9 which is the start of highschool in Canada.
I'm not sure what to be looking for as a book bag. I was told bigger is better from many older kids- my brother and his friends.
I was thinking 3 main ideas- [tote, messanger, or normal back pack]
1st- www.coach.com/online/handbags/-poppy_purses-10551-10051-5000000000000189652-en?t1Id=5000000000000032004&t2Id=5000000000000189652&tier=2&LOC=LN#105017
The Poppy signature glam tote
2nd- www.dakine.com/p/bags/messengers/2012-winter-girls/12w-taylor < in any other color than black.
3rd- www.sparepartslife.com/backpacks/burton/day-hiker-pk-20l.html < something like this, not sure about any of these colors but I've seen different ones.

So I guess what's more in style and useful. It's for 2012-2013 school year.

Thanks :)

Answer
Everyone generally uses a backpack, but some girls use totes, too. I don't really see a lot of messenger bags.

Out of the three, I think the most in style would be the first one. However, it'd be really hard to carry/use after a while because it'll get really heavy. As a second choice, I'd choose the messenger bag because it's easier to use. Your shoulders won't hurt as much, and it's not entirely bad-looking. I don't really like the backpack though, it doesn't seem like it's for school, lol.

Ultimately, what I would suggest is to pick a backpack. It's the easiest to use, and can carry the most stuff. Get it in a cute design, and don't get it in a humongous size because it'll look scary. For example, I have a really cute taupe-ish leather backpack, and it's average sized. It's perfect! :)

Do you have your teenage kids use school backpack for traveling?

JK

My son will be going to a couple of band concert trips and I was wondering if it's odd if he uses his school pack - last year most kids seemed to have a special travel bags but I'm kind of poor and I just didn't see the point of buying a new bag when his school pack seems to be sufficient for the purpose.

Why do people provide their kids with different travel bags other than their school packs?

Answer
Yes, he certainly can use his student backpack as a travel bag. I have done that many times when I'm just going on an overnighter. It is a simple, practical solution and as you noted, it is sufficient to carry the things he needs. As for why other people buy "luggage" for their kids when their backpacks would suffice, it could be that an obvious solution staring them right in the face never even occurred to them. Perhaps they think a backpack has only one function and it never dawned on them it can have all sorts of handy uses (I used mine last weekend to carry tools up to our church to work on a project). How great that your son is in band. Kids who participate in performing and visual arts frequently excel beyond their peers who don't. He is learning so many great things, including teamwork and responsibility, not to mention things he doesn't even realize he's learning that will help him in subjects such as math and science. You're a great mom to encourage his music playing. Brava for you!

What is the year kids started carrying backpacks to school?

Mrs. B

I was really wondering what year kids started to carry backpacks to school. I have pictures of my kids in Jr. high school in 1984, no back packs, only a little bag. The they used to carry a lunch pail.

Answer
When I was in high school, I had an old army knapsack. There weren't any backpacks until I went to college. I graduated in 1981.

why are wheeled backpacks not allowed in schools?

Michelle

kids have so many books to carry. Its better for them to wheel the books around.what gives??

Answer
This must vary with school districts. The school district in my area allows backpacks with wheels. If you are really wondering, you should ask someone at the school (teacher, guidance counselor, even principal). Just tell them that you are curious as to why they are not allowed (because I'm sure there's a valid reason), and let them know that you have a lot of books and think that allowing backpacks with wheels would make it better on the students. You just might change the policy!

Why is it weird for high school kids to have wheeled backpacks?

um..most of our books are really, really heavy... i think we need it more than little kids do... so why is it weird for us to have it? http://www.google.tt/images?hl=en&q=wheeled%20backpacks%20for%20women&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=767&bih=366 would u use them or not ?

Yes. That bag is stylish among your age and many people have that type of bag but not the same brand, Fred Perry is better. You should just wear it over your left shoulder to your back. It depends for different people which side you hold your bag.

Which bag should I get for school? (Links included)?

Gary Jacks

I'm 15 going into 10th grade, and looking for a bag for school.

1. From reading the reviews, this bag seems large enough, but I'm not sure about the sturdiness.

$98 http://www.freepeople.com/accessories-bags/torino-double-pocket-hobo/

2. I absolutely love this bag. It's cute, huge, sturdy(?), and IMO looks great for school.

$128 http://www.freepeople.com/accessories-bags/tapisserie-hobo/

3. I think this bag is out, but it's just SO cute. I love the long chain strap. I'm not sure if it's big enough, or sturdy enough, but I put it on the list to see what you all think.

$248 http://www.freepeople.com/accessories-bags/tina-patched-satchel/

4. Again, I think this bag is already out. It's pricy, and an actual backpack. I'm looking for a shoulder bag/tote because I'm tired of backpacks. I already have a backpack from last year just in case the tote I might get doesn't work out. Anyways, this backpack is very cute and looks large and sturdy enough to hold textbooks and such.

$288 http://www.freepeople.com/accessories-bags/somerset-backpack/

5. This one is my personal favorite, but I'm just looking for others' opinions. It's exactly what I'm looking for: cute, simple, huge, sturdy, and not WAY overpriced. I know, it is pricy, but I might get my money's worth for it.

$228 http://www.freepeople.com/accessories-bags/somerset-backpack/

Which one do you think is best?

Do college kids still carry backpacks?

TheMilitan

I guess this question makes me an old.

My neice is off to college at the end of August, and I thought I would buy her a nice backpack for her August b-day. I thought a backpack was a neccsity for a college student, but then I started thinking maybe backpacks are more of a trend. So, my question to you youngs out there: Do college kids still carry backpacks? Is there a brand that is more "in" than others? Are the LL Bean monogramed ones (which are really good quality, and I think cute) considered dorky?

Answer
I would say that the breakdown of carrying stuff is...

45% backpacks
25% messangers
10% gym bags (adidas, etc)
10% shoulder bags (gym bags, but the 80s style)
10% other (purses, etc)
(This is a rough estimate based on my school)

Backpacks are better for the back than messangers, and when she's carrying a laptop and books home from the library, she'll thank you. Make sure it has a laptop pocket, if she is getting a laptop for school. The LL Bean ones are really cute, I love them. Otherwise, Jansport is popular, as is Northface and Roots (in Canada).

You could fill it with all sorts of cool, fun gadgets for back to school, etc (depending on how much you want to spend on her)

Going to 7th grade. Questions about bags and packpacks and stuff hehe.?

kittykatso

Hey im going to 7th grade (middle school) I was wondering if we still use backpacks or if we carry totes or if we wear messenger bags? Could someone tell me the answers to those questions and i was wondering what would be better to get a messenger sort of bag cheap from abercrombie kids or hollister? I mean a bag like this one.

http://www.hollisterco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10251_10201_406111_-1_12748_12552

Answer
USE A BACKPACK!
trust me, a messenger or tote may look "cute" or whatever, but youll regret it.
you need a good backpack to be able to carry all of you books, and messengers are bad for your shoulders.

and that kind of messenger bag will prob. like break after a couple of months anyway. abercrombie and hollister crap is cheaply made and highly priced.

like someone above me said, there are plenty of cute backpacks out there. like roxy. also, jansport has a lot of cute designs and patterns!

I

hey so i can't decide on which backpack to get for school this year, i am a girl and am 15 years old going into 10th grade. I bought a jansport one in navy because i've wanted it since last year, but my brothers said that it looked too manly, but it didn't look wierd on me
http://www.jansport.com/js_product_detail.php?cid=10&pid=T501
should i get that one in a different, more girlish color like the aqua blue, or lilac?
Or i also wanted one of these but i am not sure, because a lot of people are going to have these this year, ( first two rows)

You should get this backpack from Urban Outfitters

This acid wash backpack was in the Seventeen magazine for August and Seventeen recommended getting one!

Plus, acid wash backpacks look more fab when you add cool keychains like feathers and fringes. It makes a statement and people will notice you (in a good way).

Is this bag good for school?

Q. I am a girl and I will be a 9th grader for the 2011-2012 school year and I am planning on using this hollister bag instead of a backpack. how much stuff would fit in this? Stick with the backpack. I carried a tote for my freshman and sophomore years and it was awful. You always wind up with one sore arm and ususally wind up having to carry books or binders anyway. Get a backpack, they work so much better.! have fun in high school!

When I was a little boy I like to go outside and play in the yard. As a boy I had toy trucks and cars I kept in my book bag. All my friends and cousins would come to my house to play video games. As a boy I liked to climb the tree in my backyard. As a boy, I never liked to eat my vegetables. I was a child that had a lot of hair. I was very social and liked to talk to other children and adults. My friends were a mix of boys and girls and they were all a lot of fun. I could sleep in as late as i wanted when i was really little. My mom would make me sit at the table until I ate them. That really did not work because I would just sit there. Our neighborhood had a lot of kids, and we spent all summer playing.
We considered an entire two or three blocks to be our private playground, playing hide-and-seek or war. When I went to school I played basketball will all the bigger kids. I used to play soccer for my school. I was very misbehaved as a little boy. I was always in timeout and detention. At recess everyone would play softball so I would try to play but the older kids would always take my turn. Then they saw I was really good so they let me play.
In the summer I would go to camp with my brothers for the whole summer. At camp I played capture the flag and had water balloon fights. At camp we did a lot of fun activities and games. When we got back home everyone would want to know how it went. As a boy, me and my friends would ride ours bikes around the neighborhood and have races. I would always win and we all got left with scares. We had a dog when I was younger as well. The dog was very rough and playful. The first time I saw him, he knock me over. Summer was always a wonderful time. The swimming pool always opened the Monday after school was out, and Malcom and I were always allowed to use the one dollar refund of our school book deposit fee to buy a summer's season ticket at the swimming pool. The pool was across town, just past the football field, not far from the city park
In the winters I remember always playing in the snow. We had snow ball fight and made snowmen. When I was younger there was a big blizzard and the snow was over my head. One day school got canceled and my mom made my favorite. Then me and my brothers went out to play in the snow. I put on my favorite boots.
As a boy I went to Disney World with my school. We went to all the amusement parks and ate at a lot of restaurants. The rides were all fun and the food was delicious. Me and my friend got lost for a couple hours and everyone was looking for us.Then my parents came and took me and my brothers to Universal Studios. All the rides there were fun too like the roller coaster.
When I got a little older I started to play football. I was in little league and I had never played before. I was fast so the coaches put me some where on the field. Then started to really like football.

I need home remedies?

Q. Im constanstly spitting/coughing up mucus. my throat is sore. nose is cloged. Short breath.
I think my allergies are acting up again -.- Is theree any thing i can do? [:

Answer
Try eliminating any milk and dairy products you consume for a week and see if your symptoms abate any. Aside from the fact that milk and dairy products are mucous producing, it is entirely possible that you are lactose intolerant and your system has simply built up a level of tolerance so that you don't actually h ave major health problems from it but never do actually feel vital and bouncing and 100%. Increase your consumption of fresh fruit and green and salad vegies. All rich in calcium and the greens are rich in both calcium and magnesium.

For your sore throat gargle with warm salty water but please ensure that the salt you use is pure celtic sea salt..... not the commercialised "nice white" table salt that has been processed with a ghastly amount of chemicals such as aluminium (to make it flow) and chlorine (to make it nice and white).. real sea salt is greyish or pinkish in color and you can get it from any good health food store for around $6.00AUD per 500gm bag.... it needs to be refridgerated to keep it fresh too.... simply put a teaspoon full into a glass of warm or room temperature water and stir up and gargle with it every couple of hours.

Also squeeze a fresh lemon into a mug and top with an inch of cold water and then fill with hot water and sip on that. Lemons are rich in vitamin C which is a powerfull antioxidant and will quell the pain dramatically. Have two mugs if you have to. Or ... if you're brave ..... slice a lemon into quarters and suck on each quarter (rinsing your mouth afterwards to protect the enamel on your teeth). ... Yum, I love lemons. Good for alkalising an acid tummy or quelling the pain from acid refux too.

Or squeeze fresh oranges and drink the juice. Only the fresh juice though, not the processed packaged highly refined loaded with nutritionally void processed sugar kind though. Avoid processed sugar while you're trying to recover as it will only leach precious minerals and nutrients from your system.... actually, avoid processed sugar anyway.

Another brilliant way to knock the wind out of a sore throat or cold or flu symptoms is to buy yourself some olive leaf extract from the health food store or pharmacy..... take Olive leaf Extract in a liquid form two or three times daily just before food..... 30ml each time..... works a treat for me.... and i use it for my grade school children too.... my eldest just went to camp and came back with a sore throat and very sore raw lips and mouth.... within 3 days of taking 30ml of olive leaf twice daily his symptoms have all but vanished.... buy the natural flavored variety as the flavored ones contain less concentration of the active ingredient oleuropein... Olive leaf extract has been used as a natural antiotiobic for thousand years, but is only recently that scientific research has shown that its active ingredient oleuropein, has the ability to fight a broad range of infective microorganisms.... Oleuropein has been found to be effective in fighting bacteria, fungi, yeasts, parasites and viruses in laboratory studies.

http://www.oliveleaf.co.nz/story.shtml

And drink lots of fresh filtered water to help flush out the germs and hydrate you and avoid milk and dairy as it is mucous producing..... the shortness of breath could very well be dehydration.. you need water for your lungs to breathe, to digest your food, to transport nutrients, to lubricate your joints, to think clearly, to do anything at all really.

http://www.accessorize-usa.com/bags/antler-travel-shopper/invt/98964997/
well i was going to look at the size of the bag on the website, but it doesnt say it

High school art project?!?!?

Ash

hey im doing design right now in school. i have my ideas, im designing a bag with the theme of london.
what i need help with is my reasearch page, it has to be photos and drawings.

i need to fill up the whole page but i cant think of much more to include.

what do you think a research page should include?

Answer
you should include the two elements: bag, and London. use clippings from magazines and travel brochures, then do some sketching inspired by this material. you can add lines with anything that comes to mind, like quotes you remember about London, a description of your favorite bag and so on. the feel of your research page has to reflect your creative process: are you the chaotic type (I am...) or are you very structured when it comes to creating?

Is Grad School Culture Really Like This?

Q. So I go to a really good school in the USA, and I was considering graduate school for math or physics as I am a double major. I have started trying to try to get a glimpse of what life is like as a graduate student. I must say that after talking with one of my TAs and running into him a few times around campus, I am a little bit disgusted. I thought grad school was the time when all the simpletons were gone from campus, and those of us left on the other side got to thrive in the culture of learning, and be progressive, truly intellectual people.

However I have a TA for a very high level math class that is getting his PhD with a thesis focus in algebraic geometry and has quite a few publications. However, this guy is for a lack of a better word a tool bag dimwitted slob. I always see him jogging with this big dopey grin on his face. He still wears his old fraternity letters hoodie to class (ARE YOU KIDDING ME). When I go to his office hours, his cubicle is at the back of the room facing the wall, so I can see what he is doing on the internet. He is always on some forum for Jersey Shore or Mob Wives, or is literally watching WWE wrestling youtube videos(again seriously!!!!). The other day I saw him eating at the campus McDonalds with his girlfriend who went outside and smoked a cigarette mid-meal.

Whenever I ask about math in office hours, he always says something to the effect of... "Oh **** dude, the prof didn't want me to go over that one, but... it's just so badass man I have to haha..." He then proceeds to give a very descriptive detail of the solution to the exercise, pausing and saying, "you understand man?" I feel so insulted that this idiot with a trucker's vocabulary is asking ME if I understand!!! It's insulting, and he should know not to do that with the image he puts off.

Please tell me that graduate school life is not the path to trailer trash lifestyle, middle class neighborhoods, fast food, girlfriends who can't get the whole way through their big mac without a smoke break, and reality TV. I know that there are a lot of intellectuals out there in grad school, but I just need some reassurance.

Thanks

Answer
"However, this guy is for a lack of a better word a tool bag dimwitted slob" So you're judgemental

"He still wears his old fraternity letters hoodie to class (ARE YOU KIDDING ME). " critical of other people's clothing choices.

"When I go to his office hours, his cubicle is at the back of the room facing the wall, so I can see what he is doing on the internet"
what's your point?

"He is always on some forum for Jersey Shore or Mob Wives, or is literally watching WWE wrestling youtube videos(again seriously!!!!)."
I can guarantee you watch something or have a hobby that that I think is stupid

"The other day I saw him eating at the campus McDonalds with his girlfriend who went outside and smoked a cigarette mid-meal"
your point?

"I know that there are a lot of intellectuals out there in grad school, but I just need some reassurance."
Basically you think you are an elite intellect when in reality right now you are an undergrad which means you know next to nothing. I'm sure there are "progressive intellectual" people in grad schools--but that doesn't mean the are more intelligent or will accomplish more in their fields than someone whose hobby is watching WWE.

I watched the last UFC PPV--the people in the room were 2 dentists, a chiropractor, a neurologist, a college professor of physics, and 3 engineers. A lot of intelligence and schooling in that room, but according to you, an undergrad student, you seem to be more intellectual than any of us.

Get ready for a wakeup call when you find out that "dimwitted slobs" are MUCH more intelligent than you are. You are the most prejudiced and judgemental person I've ever heard of--and that's what I'd expect from someone who wants to be a progressive intellect.

High School Tennis Team?

Molli Rae

I'm a Freshman in high school and going out for our school's tennis team. I have taken lessons, but it was almost 3 years ago. During the summer, my sister and I would just mess around with our rackets, and I am REALLY bad.
Due to an inconvenience, we lost our head tennis coach, so the whole thing has been really unorganized lately. Last week they had pre-season practices, but I wasn't able to go because it was at an indoor court located twenty minutes away, and being only 15, I couldn't drive myself or get a ride. Today was the first REAL practice, and of course, I couldn't practice because I don't have my sports physical done. Luckily, I have one tomorrow morning, which means I can practice tomorrow!
The coaches did say there's a chance of cutting people and I don't know when exactly tryouts are or if we're having them.
With that said, I am scared out of my mind. I'm not a good player, had to miss first week of preseason practice, and the first day of real practice. I really want to make the team and play, but I don't know if I even have a chance...

Do you guys have any tips??

(PS: I was signed up for private lessons this last summer, and with my luck, the instructor lost my form and I never got to get help.)
I actually did try to contact the instructor back multiple times. My dad had called the Rec multiple times before we finally got a hold of him, and at that point, he said he was done giving lessons.

Answer
Don't give up the ship too soon. Say, "I have not yet begun to fight" [John Paul Jones].

The skill level at most high schools is NOT the toughest in the country, so stick it out unless you absolutely KNOW you're getting cut and every player you go up against beats you love and love. If that is indeed the case [I doubt it] you might bag out after 2 or 3 days of it.

Hmmmm, tips. OK, lets assume that you have to play some sort of match with other kids in order to either make a cut of construct a team ladder.

Sportsmanship might not be #1, but it's way ahead of whatever is in 2nd place :-)

Therefore, get yourself a rule book from USTA. My favorite is "Friend at Court" because it has an index in the back where you can look things up. It also has *everything* in it, unlike "Rules of Tennis" which only has the rules and The Code.

The "Rules of Tennis" book is a few bucks cheaper, so that's a plus in its favor. The Code is very important for you to know, because it tells you how to conduct yourself in a match that has no officials [99.9% of matches I've seen in person, lol]. So read The Code over and over if you haven't already. available at:
http://www.ustashop.com/ <-- click on "Books" in the lefthand margin
It should get to you in a week or less :-) USTA is very good about shipping these books.

OK, your instructor has stopped teaching or something. Sounds like it's time to "re-load." There are tons of tennis instructors in the world, so if you are looking for a teacher, here are links to three tennis-teaching organizations:
http://www.uspta.com/
http://www.ptrtennis.org/
http://www.tennisteacher.org/MTMCA/Welcome.html

If you live in the USA, you should be able to find an instructor near you in one or more of the web sites above.

Matches with other kids:
You should NOT attack every ball that comes to you. Some balls require you to defend [lobs, slices, get out the kitchen sink and shovel it over somehow. Other balls you just keep it in play without fully attacking the ball, duking it out until a short ball comes along. And finally, if you get an easy "sitter" then go for it with a full swing and win it or lose it! You can also counterattack if the ball isn't too far away from you.

Get your first serve in, even if you have to use an underhand or sidearm serve [perfectly legal, by the way]. Double-faults are not acceptable :-) so avoid them if you possibly can.

Announce the score, and KNOW the score at all times. The score tells you whether you can go for broke or be conservative and just keep it in play. Some points are far more important than others.

Keep your mouth SHUT unless you have to talk. This will keep you out of trouble :-) Not always easy to do, unfortunately.

Be creative: Drop shots, lobs, dinks, moon balls etc are great fun to hit, and people often have trouble with them!

Learn to play the net, practice your punch-volleys and overheads every day. Approach shots are also very important, of course.

Take deep breaths in between points, look down at your shoes or your racket strings. Note how the pro's have a little ritual in between points where they move back and regroup each time. Very smart.

Do NOT think about the result. That will mess you up, because you really don't have direct control over it.

Think about giving it your best effort, sportsmanship, and other concepts, like strategy and tactics within that strategy.

If you get cut, then take lessons from a good teacher and practice at his/her club several days a week. The club's program may be a better one than the school's anyway :-)

best of luck :-)

Malaysia, India or Thailand?

rubyxo

Ok, so Im doing this school project and have to make a show bag on a Asian country. Which one should I choose, India, Malaysia or Thailand and what are interesting ups and downs about them. Which one would you pick from appearance and interest?

Answer
india and malaysia are probably bigger, but Thailand has so much more to offer. Their unique culture is perfect for a report. From beautiful Phi Phi Island, to the Las Vegas style Patong and colourful market places, Thailand is an exciting and and marvelous place. I really suggest that you do a show bag on Thailand.

Good luck!

My friend is a target at school?

My parents moved and we ended up in a new city with a new High School. First day I met a really nice guy, and we became friends. But as soon as I started hanging out with him, I noticed things.
Students would bang on the windows when we were in the library, daring him to come out, several of them threating to attack him.

People throw things at him, and if he ever puts his school bag down kids grab it and hide it, or place it the rubbish bins. Iâve seen him take his bag out of the rubbish bin so many times it almost seems normal. We were talking to math once and a huge guy walked in front of us and just slammed into him a wall while his friends stood and laughed.

Iâve been targeted as well but not as much, just small things like throwing paper at the back of my head in class, locking me out of classes when the teachers leave the room and just the usual name talking, like deeming me crazy and whispering about me. But I donât get nearly as much as he does, and thatâs just for being his friend.

I didnât make any sense. He was nice, good looking and smart, a little bitter at times. I asked time what he thought the bullying was about and he put bluntly he thought most of it was just racism. I never have really thought of it that way before.
Sanjay âs parents are from India and came here when his mother was just a few months pregnant with him. Sure, both his parents were born outside of the country but my friend grew up in the same area all of the people in the school did. So I started looking around, nearly all students in this school are white, but surely in a Western modern school racism would not go that far?
So I watched more closely, listened to what people say. They refer to him as a dirty Mexican⦠which is stupid because his parents are Indian and none of his family have been to Mexico.
We can tried telling teachers but because itâs just us against what seems like the majority we are always made up as the bad guys, they make stuff up.

Iâve tried to help him but heâs just quit caring, and I think he may be really depressed. Iâm worried suicide might be on the cards, and as his best friend I donât know what to do. What can I do?
I donât get this racism, why? What can I do?

Answer
This school of yours doesnt happen to be in Australia right? Indians are KILLED almost everyday there, its always on the paper, India student found dead, classmates found guilty! and such stuffs all the time, in Australia i mean. Anywhere it be, i cant believe they still hold on the racism cr*p...A-holes should just roll over and die.... There isn't much you can do actually, if this racism things ends somehow, it can only be by the whole schools support, which am sure wont happen any time soon

How can I sleep well without thinking about my crush?

Omar

For three years I had a classmate I knew, she is currently 16 but when I met her she was like 9 or 10. Anyway we went to the same elementary school together for one whole year and then I never saw her again... or so I thought, when I went to this new school three yeas ago I met up with her again, I was 11 and she was 14, strangely enough I kinda thought she was cute, for some reason I actually thought she was cute, but that kinda makes sense 'cause I'm growing up, so, as time progressed I saw her more differently every day until the year was over. The next year I wound up riding with her and her family everyday to school and back. my parents don't have time to take me to school everyday so I ride with her, and every day I started talking and getting to know her and I thought she was cool and then I soon realized I had a crush on her! I was shocked to realize this, what's worse, that same year there was this other guy who flew all the way from the Philippines showed up and me and my class thought he was cool but then later on he told me in front of my face he liked her too. I was shocked and devastated, so, I played it cool and told him okay, he didn't find out that I liked her too so I was happy about that. I kept this a secret to myself for a whole year, and then he got to talk to her and got to know her and I guess you could say I was a little jealous... a little... so eventually another year has passed and I became a freshman and she became a sophomore, the whole year I became a jerk, a weirdo, and a creep to everyone I knew at school, they knew me as a young, short, immature, annoying, little kid, and as soon as I tried to change my image from immature to tough, mean, and aloof, I immediately became a jerk to everyone, they all were used to me being an annoying, little goofball, who'd knew? So anyway during the middle of the year I was so tired of keeping my secret a secret because my friends were so nosy I had to let it out; man, what a bummer! turns out they already knew the whole time... they claimed I may have let out some clues and I guess it was pretty obvious, so yeah, it was a bummer...later on the year like at the last three or four weeks before graduation she invited me to her church, that's right, we're christian, so I went to her church, and I met some familiar faces, anyway after that day, I don't know what happened but for some reason she wouldn't talk to me, when I would talk to her she would talk back but in a "I don't want to talk to you right now" kind of way, I didn't do anything wrong either! What in the world? So this happened for two weeks, maybe three, and every night thes past two to three years, I couldn't sleep, now it's the last two, three days of school, This Is Where The Crazy Thing Happens! three days of school left and the day just ended, we are waiting for our ride, who comes and picks us up? Her jerk of a brother! I have had a grudge against her older brother for a while now, the whole ride I was angry for no apparent reason, and I think I may have been a little too hard but I was angry. As soon as we reached my house he said bye but she didn't. I got out the car, got my bags from the trunk, and I have no Idea how this happened but apparently I have become strong, so strong I don't know my own strength, and everyone has noticed it, I slam the trunk by accident, and she is like "Don't slam the trunk next time",and because she hadn't talked to me I thought it's payback time, so instead of saying okay, I gave her a thumbs up...bad idea, she must have thought I was giving her the finger, when she saw my thumbs up she yelled out "I'm calling your parents to tell them we're not picking you up anymore...that broke me... she never was so angry like that before, not to me at least, I was crushed, and I realized what I had to do, so I went all the way to her house just to apologize, that didn't work, as a matter of fact, she found me even more creepy than I already seemed. As soon as I was done, I left her house and I soon found myself at my old school where I first met her, and I cried, and I went back home. It's been five weeks since then and yesterday I went online to google images cause I was bored and I typed my crush's name and there she was with the guy who had a crush on her too, and I flipped. So here I am at 12:30 a.m. typing the details of my question to figure out how to forget her and the images of her in my head, because I can't sleep please help me, I am exhausted, depressed, and in love... please help me, and thank you for your cooperation.

Answer
I think you should try your best to move on.
Yeah it's hard :/
Maybe change into a nice guy and see where that gets you :)
I hate that you cried over her and I don't get why she did that after inviting you to her church. But, I wish you the best I really do.

Where can I find a good, reliable, high-quality backpack for school?

DefenceDes

Priced reasonably like around 40 to 80 (less or more)

Answer
I just started grad school and I have used the same backpack since high school, I kid you not. LL bean's backpacks are indestructible!!!

Parents, what kind/brand of backpack is best?

rainwriter

I know that as a general rule, the pasticy feeling ones with licensed characters all over them are lower quality than others. What brand of backpack have you found to be the best, both in terms of looking cool and being high quality and resilient?

Answer
We get backpacks from Mountain Equipment Co-Op because they are very good quality and good for your back if you are carrying lots of stuff. My kids have had their backpacks since they started school and they are going into grades 5 and 8. Mind you, we use them for school, and school only, so that probably helps. I don't know if they are "cool", but I do know that there are several other kids in their school with the same kind.

Anyone know a good school bag?

Elose He

I'd like a bag for school. I'd like it to be a shoulder or a satchel bag. It would need to be sturdy for many books and quite big. I'd also like it to be quite fashionable. Is there anywhere anyone would recommend to shop with a budget of about £50? Thanks.

Answer

It's not a shoulder bag, but it's really awesome - for every backpack they sell, they donate a year's worth of textbooks to a child in need.

They're cute, too. They're the rucksack-style that's really popular right now, and with books71 get 10% off.

How to cope with a new school?

H

I am moving to a different school for the 2011 - 2012 school year. I'm not moving houses, just going to a different school district. How do I deal with going to another school? I know some people there. Also my cousins go there as well, which my cousins are almost like my best friends. How would I find my niche? How should I deal with being around a new crowd of people that I will have to be with 6 hours a day, 5 times a week? Help please?

Answer
I moved schools as well, not houses just schools. I knew like 5 people and that was it. I ended up following one guy I knew and then I made a new friend who showed me around and helped me, and now she's like my best friend.

Just relax don't work your self up about because if you do your more likely to screw up or do something stupid or not meant to.
Talk to your cousins and ask who you should stay away from.
And don't change who you are just for this school, just be you and ignore stuff that people say because let's face it you are bound to get talked about for being the new kid and stuff.

Just don't let them be mean to you, okay? I mean just the other day I had a snail put in my bag! and Iv'e been at my new school for like 2-3 terms (semester)

So just keep your Head held high.
Take care :) and good luck

Today I got a sling bag for school and today in school i saw a lot of girls wearing them and only 2 guys. Is that bag more for girls?

Answer
LOL, it doesn't matter. It's not "more for girls". You wear what you want and what you like. Don't base it on what other people are wearing. And hey . . . you said 2 guys were wearing them, so what's the big deal? If a lot of guys don't wear them . . . start a new trend for guys. Sling bags!!

Seriously, forget about what other people wear or what they do. Be yourself.

oh and to the people who answered this dudes question saying "sling bags are for gay guys" . . . GROW UP! If the kid likes it, he likes it and he can wear what he wants. sheesh.

HELP! need a new school bag... ANY IDEAS?

renner

well, the one i have right now is pretty much completely torn apart lol...

so i need a new bag for school. i'm not sure if i should get a one-shoulder tote bag kind of thing like the one i currently have, or a backpack (any suggestions?). i prefer a shoulder bag because then i can carry it to class with me and have all my stuff easily accessible, but it needs to be in good quality (unlike the last one) so it can last (hopefully i won't have to buy a new one for high school next year). anyways, what are some good stores or brands to check out? also, which kind and color do you think i should get? nothing too expensive please.

thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (:

Answer
JanSport has some good backpacks but I see you want a tote.
Aeropostale has some cute totes check there! And theyre on sale right now for 14.99! Might be different from where you live, I live in Canada so there might be price differences. Hollister has some totes too.
Forever 21 also. Look around, go to different stores, lots of stores has cute totes. Maybe try going into a store you don't even like and just look around maybe you'll see a tote thats cute toooo.

College girls: what do you carry at school?

tattoozgir

I'll start college in the fall, and I'll need something to carry my books in, but I want a cute/stylish way. Girls, do y'all use backpacks, messenger bags or what? Rolling backpacks?

Thanks!

Answer
In college I use tote purses. Stylish and Its the perfect size to fit notebooks, folders. But if your one of the girls that carry textbooks large and binders I say go for a cute backpack. And definitely not rolling backpacks, leave that in middle school.

Cute backpacks or messengers bags for college girls?

ecstasy

I need help finding a good bag for school. I want something cute but not too overly cute. Something simple would be fine too. I don't like tote bags because...they really won't hold any of my books or other things. I looked everywhere for bags and backpacks but I can't find anything! I'll buy anything under 100.

Any suggestions? :)

Answer
Jansport has soooo many kinds of backpacks! whether it be for a girly 14 year old, or a hiker. they have something for everyone. Also their backpacks last pretty long! my sister had a jansport for 2 years of high school she carried it around entirely full, in rain, 102 degree sunshine. and it was still in good condition when she changed it!
Jansport also carries Laptop bags, and luggage!

another Great brand is Dickie's or Volcom. I've never owned one, but they have nice designs!

However, your best bet would be jansport :D

Dream about saving a little boy?

It's Leah!

In my dream I was at some sort of school (maybe a college or university) and there was an attack at the school. Students and families were trying to escape and we were running up the staircase to escape the danger.
Then I see a little blonde boy who is no more than four years old, who is being pushed around and abused by his family. So I pick him up, carry him in my arms and decide to take care of him. His family didn't try to stop me.
My friends and I finally escape the building and we go to the nearest subway station. On the way to buy the tickets for the little boy, some money falls out of my bag and gets suck under someone's shoe.
I try to get the person's attention but she kept walking away. Luckly I still had plenty of money to buy the boy a ticket for the subway.
When I return to buy the ticket for the little boy, one of the workers at the station returns the little boy to me (he found him sleeping somewhere when I was running after my money) so I take the boy back in my arms and we all manage to escape.

What does this mean?

Answer
Are you trying to figure out a way to pay for schooling? Do you have plans to attend college but are unsure of how to afford it?
The little boy probably represents the possibility of a new life at school. You see your dream as being in jeopardy because of a shortage of money or an inability of your family to help you out financially. Although it is an uphill battle (climbing the staircase), you have managed to accumulate some "savings".
The journey toward school (subway station) is threatened because of someone unwittingly costing you some money. Although the hit to your finances was a minor setback (money stepped on by woman) you can still manage the cost (tuition, books, etc). Although you may have been unaware of what was going on (the little boy sleeping) it was brought to your attention and your plan is seeming to work out (managing to escape).

How are public schools in california?

aloha

What's it like to be studying in a public school in cali?
This is my first time going to study in a public school and im not sure what to do.
Do we have to copy everything the teacher writes on the board? What kind of bag should i use? what do girls usually wear? Are there lots of asians and people from different countries ? (i love having foreign friends) I've never been to california and have been homeschooled my entire life. Please help? oh, and what do i do during lunch time? What if there's no space to sit and noone is willing to sit with me? Would i get bullied? I'm 5'3 , 15 years old, 65kg, i'm very awkward and shy.
Helpppp? Thanks. Ps. i'm not very smart either. ...oh, and what should i do in pe class? I TOTALLY SUCK AT SPORTS

Answer
Omg sounds a bunch like my school but I'm in 7th grade. My school, Sarah McGarvin Intermediate, is terrible and ugly, I hate that but since your in High School you won't need to worry about that!

California schools are quite bad since they're low on money so don't expect full attention from the teachers because they probably aren't paid enough.

You probably won't need to copy everything on the board but sometimes you might make graphic organizers, also keep your ears open because you teachers might say something you may have to copy down.
And by the way my teachers are really strict even though I'm in the 7th grade.

Do not use a messenger bag nor a roller, messenger bags are really heavy (it's ok if you have a block schedule or a locker (poorer schools don't), an alternating schedule ex. Day A ABCD blocks and Day B EDFG some of them vary), and roller backpack are considered uncool. You should buy a Jansport bookbag (backpack) I heard they are really good quality even though they don't look like it.

I'm sorry I can't help you on clothing. *middle school* *tomboy* I usually wear a t-shirt, skinny jeans, hoodie, and converse (Vans are popular too). Nothing too special.

*warning* this paragraph is only Asians because I am Asian and I don't know many people from other places. Sorry!
Most Asians live in Southern Cali with the exception of San Francisco.
It depends where you live to have a lot of Asians. Westminster (where I live) is crowded with Vietnamese people. Monterrey Park has a lot of Asians too, I heard it's considered a China Town but I see a lot of Vietnamese people there too. I heard Ceritos & Rowland Heights has a lot of Asians I don't know who though. Irvine has a ton! I don't go down to Irvine a lot though, but I know they're there!

Lunch time is the tough one. I would bring your a lunch to school (only on the first day) because the line may be really long. If you school is mainly outside like mine find a bench to sit at. And if it's inside just grab a chair as fast as you can!!! I would try to make new friends as fast as you can! Luckily I had a problem with my schedule at the beginning of the year and then I made friend in line.

Don't worry about bullying on your first day. Try to wear something that isn't sloppy or impressive because you might get called things. Keep thing clean and clear between people, tell people the truth. But secondary school has a lot of drama.

Best help I can give you on your first day would be stay calm.

You should start practicing your basketball, soccer, etc!
PE is an easy A. You don't need to be good at any sport, you just need to participate!
And we have Fitness Test at school, and gah!!! You'll hate them if you fail the test. It's really hard, I'm really good a sports but I still get below basics. I think only 9th grade has to do it (in high school) though. :P Also you might be one of the lucky schools who do Fitness Gram since it's a lot easier, but still harsh if your not good at sports. I'm not sure about this part so I'll try to fill in as much as I know. We run a mile at least 2 times a month (7th grade). We do fitness testing every quarter for the 4 quarters total.
If you want the fitness gram standardize chart here it is:
http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/pf/documents/healthfitzone09.pdf
I believe fitness gram is once a semester (we have 2 semesters) but that varies the school.

I'm soooo sorry that this is f'n long. btw don't stare at people when they swear xD lol I had people look at me before. It felt weird... xD lol

Answer
I totally feel your pain! At my school we carry our back packs around! We can put books in out lockers, but you only have once a day and after school to go there. So we carry our bags. I got a bag from Pacsun.com and they have some great bags. The straps are nice and thick and full to support your shoulders and back!
