Sarah

I'm going to 8th grade and i need a cute tote for back to school. It needs to be BIG! So it can fit a lot of stuff!! thanks and price doesn't matter!! JUST CUTE AND BIGG!!! thankkksss!!!

Answer
They have super cutee bags at Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister :) You can find BIG and cute totes there which are really sturdy and they can fit a lot! Just be sure to get it at Abercrombie & Fitch and not abercrombie kids becuase these are smaller :\ And you can also try Forever21 becuase they have cute ones too for a great price, American Eagle too and also PacSun :)

Good Prices @ Concession Stand?

Anne

I'm going to run a concession stand at Track & Field Meets- what prices do you think are typical for
-hot dogs
-hamburgers
-can of pop
-pizza
-a ziploc bag of popcorn

Thoughts? We're targeting High School students (our own and from the away team) who tend to buy food a lot- even if they brought their own.

Thanks! It's an easy questions! :)

Answer
We use a general rule of double your costs at my daughters school. However, some items have a perceived value that is greater.

Example a hot dog, with bun and condiments costs about $.27, but $1.00 is a great perceived value by the kids.

Hamburgers figure $1.50 to $2.00 because they take more to prepare and the cost is higher.

Pop, about .75 to 1.00 a can.

Popcorn doesn't cost much, you could do .50

Pizza, depends on the cost.

We also do well with sour candy, if the school allows the forbidden treat.

What would you think if a high school kid had a roller backpack????

themasta

Would you think him/her weird or off colored? or anything like that.
i'm not in high school but im just wondering.

Answer
I would think that person was a major dweeb.

What are your views on young children carrying roller bags to school?

Stephanie

Positive comment; Negative comment; Suggestions?

Answer
When I was a kid, I always wanted a roller backpack, but my bus driver told me that I wasn't allowed to carry a roller bag on the bus. Only the kids who got a ride to school with their parents wera allowed to have them, so I was super jealous whenever I saw another kid with one. :(

What would I need to go out camping?

Q. I wanna go out camping in Alaska I would like to know the following: when is the best place to go camping, what should I bring, who do I talk to, and whatelese I need to go camping? Oh, by the way, I'm bringing my cameras with me to film the nature its huge and would take a lot of weight with me its no ig deal because I'm not rushing filming and camping in the wild is my favorite hobby even since I was a kid.

Answer
In my opinion there's virtually no bad time to go camping in Alaska. It's just important that you do your homework and prepare appropriately for the conditions (especially in the winter).

If you're going to be in one of the National Parks, I would recommend visiting the NPS web site, gathering as much information as possible, and then call ahead to speak with a park ranger to get advice that will be specific to your situation, timeline, hiking ability, etc. If you'll be camping in the backcountry, permits are almost always required.

I have a list of essential items that I've personally fine tuned over a period of many years hiking and camping in the northwest. I want to stress that what you bring really depends on the conditions, where you're going to be camping, and how long you plan to be out. The following list should give you a good starting point though.

Personal Gear:
1. Lightweight backpack w/ hip belt
2. Sleeping bag (with appropriate thermal ratings for the conditions)
3. Sleeping pad
4. Durable hiking boots BROKEN IN*
5. 2 or 3 pr. wool socks*
6. 2 or 3 pr. cotton or polypro socks*
7. 1 pair pants*
8. Base layer thermals
9. 1 shirt*
10. WOOL/Fleece Second Layer
11. Wool/polyester beanie
12. Rain wicking outershell
13. Small towel
14. Toothbrush/Toothpaste
15. Biodegradable toilet paper
16. Purell hand sanitizer
17. Sunglasses
18. 2 water bottles - 1 quart each (Lexan, no soda bottles)
19. Spoon & 2 cups
20. Pocket knife
21. 1 large size zip lock
22. Basic personal first aid kit (Moleskin, Band-Aids, Chapstick, medicine, Gold Bond)
23. Whistle (For emergency signaling)
24. Small flashlight or headlamp with extra set of batteries and 1 extra lamp
25. Compass and map (I will provide maps)
26. Lighter or waterproof matches (1 box)
27. Sunscreen (SPF 15 or better)
28. Bug repellent
*Includes what you are wearing

Optional Personal Items:
1. Counter Assault Bear Deterrent Spray
2. Triptease Guyline (for hanging bags from bears)
3. Camera (with protective case)
4. Trekking poles
5. Gaiters if snow is present

Buddy System Gear (split between you and your hiking partner):
1. Shelter for 2 with poles and stakes (+ rain fly)
2. Lightweight backpacking stove w/ 2 canisters of fuel
3. Lightweight cook set (2Pots)
4. Scouring pad
5. Meals for the duration of your trip (Freeze dried for lightweight trail travel)

Shared Equipment:
1. Water purification system

You may want to bring a change of clean clothes to be worn on the drive home, and cash for additional food/unexpected expenses.Your target weight for your pack, WITH FOOD AND SHARED EQUIPMENT is 30-40 lbs. Keep it LIGHT!

Enjoy Alaska...I'll actually be up there again myself later this summer.

Happy Trails!

i have just moved to canada from uae ( dubai ) and i don't have a clue about high schools here so plz can anyone tell me what is the system with the cafeteria lunch and what do u do guys at gym classes ( like u change ur clothes and then what happen ?
and one more question : how can i make friends ( don't even bother writing be your self tell me what do i need to do ???

Answer
i just had a friend move to dubai. at lunch you can either pack your lunch or buy from the school. not many people packed at my school though. if you buy then you would wait in line and put food on a tray and then pay the lunch lady at the end of line. for gym class you bring a bag of clothes and change in a locker room and then go into the gym.

How do I stop my back acheing?

Elise

I have to carry my school bag with all my books around schoole everyday, and I think that's why it hurts, but when I go out anywhere, if I walk to much it aches loads, how can I make it stop?! Other than not going out?haha

Answer
place the bag over your back and not carry it with one hand to the side, like a back pack
or get one of those airport roller trolleys, where you put your baggage on it and push it, its quite popular here.

when you sleep place a pillow under your knees and place a small pillow or clothing under the head of your mattress so it supports your back

cheers

what can i do to keep growing taller?

Amy

I am 13 and i am 161.5 cm tall. I used to carry a trolley bag to school but everyone made fun of me and call me a small kid (because i am carrying a trolley bag). So this year i started carrying a backpack but sometimes when i have a lot of books in my bag i can feel that i am hunching. so 1st question how do you keep ur back straight while walking with a lot of books in ur bag. 2nd question now im having a fear of not growing tall anymore. So are there any things i can do to keep growing taller and taller. thank u!

Answer
Genetics play a big part in how tall you'll end up though carrying heavy bags at a young age while your bones are Still developing is not good and may cause some Posture, Back and Joint Problems later on in life. Is a Trolley bag one with Wheels if so they may think it is Silly but "It is the Best and Smartest way if your having to bring a Lot of Books with you" and you'll have less Joint problems later on in Life unlike those laughing at you. And if you have a Hard Fibre Glass or Plastic Bag with Wheels you can Bling it up you might even start a new School fashion accessory with it ?

Please look over and correct my essay for helping to solve hunger in the U.S.?

Bow Down t

This is for project citizen. Our group is working on how to solve hunger in the U.S. Can you look over this essay for gramatical corrections and to see if the problems/solutions in it make sense? Thanks so much!

When people think about the problems that America needs to solve, they mostly think about the economy, obesity, global warming, reducing waste/pollution, etc. One of the things that people are less likely to think about, however, is hunger. Thousands of people out there are trying to put food on their tables, but they have no means of getting the food that their family needs. Itâs not so much about the lack of food then it is getting the money to buy it. You can go into your local grocery store and find 30 different types of canned peaches, but how will you get those canned peaches? By buying them of course!
Well, another problem the starving people have is getting money. So how do the hungry get money? They would need to get a job to make the money. Easier said than done. Most of our jobs are being shipped overseas to India and China and other countries. So how would we get them back? There are many solutions to this problem, but one would be to raise import tariffs and lower export tariffs so importing from other countries are less appealing and exports are more appealing. If exports are more appealing, then we will need people to produce the exports so we can keep up with the demand, thus creating more jobs.
School is also an important factor in helping to solve hunger. Schools can teach kids/parents how to grow fresh fruits and vegetables for food. Growing their own food makes people feel independent. Schools can also teach people career skills that they will need if they go into the work force. For the kids, their local schools can help feed the kidâs breakfast, lunch, and pack bag lunches for the kids for dinner and lunch during the summer.
Another solution lies in the mobility of people that are starving since the land some people live in is unfeasible cultivation wise (in some cases). They have to try to get back into societies where there is an abundance amount of food and where they can be educated and receive more food than you need. The billions of dollars, and much more that can be saved rather than sending food all over the place to them, should go into several programs that will house them temporarily, educate, and train them so they can eventually return to their homes with new skills and educated ideas on how to all build a community that works for them. The solution lies temporarily in mobility of the people to more feasible land.
There is no simple solution to solving one problem. Usually the problems in everyday life converge together. Hopefully sometime in the future, we can create a better world for the next few generations. For now, however, we just have to take it one step at a time and hope for the best.

Answer
'waste/pollution, etc.' - how casual is this essay? (use of etc.)
'Thousands of people out there are trying to put food on their tables, but they have no means of getting the food that their family needs.' - exaggerate, i'm sure there's millions of people in America (depends if you're talking about starving people or not)
'Well, another problem the starving people have is getting money.' - This is virtually the same problem, so you may as well say something like this : 'The root of the problem is getting the money'.
Well i skimmed over the ending part and it looks fairly good, just make sure you sum yourself up in the conclusion and Introduction, so for the intro say what you're talking about etc (i know you already did this) and the conclusion just sum up a bit more and have a more beefy conclusion
i know i did this briefly but it looks good

How it felt to give birth
After going through Lamaze, Leboyer, and La Leche classes with his expectant wife, the proud new father remained by her bedside throughout the labor delivery and wanting to be as sympathetic as possible, he took his wife's hand afterward and said emotionally. "Tell, me how it was, darling, how it actually felt to give birth."

"OK, honey," his wife replied. "Smile as hard as you can."

Beaming down at his wife and smile, the man followed her instsuctions. "That's not hard."

She continued, "Now stick a finger in each corner of you mouth." He obeyed, smiling broadly. "Now stretch your lips as far as they'll go," she went on.

"Still not to tough." he remarked.

"Right." she snapped. "Now pull them over your head."

1. When I forget to go to the grocery store, I will not boil the macaroni necklaces my children made for me in preschool.

2. When I hear one of my children wake in the middle of the night, I will run upstairs to supervise before he relieves himself in the sink and then creeps into the bathtub to return to sleep.

3. I will pack the kids' lunch boxes the night before so I don't throw in a slab of frozen lasagna as they're running for the bus. "It'll defrost by lunch. If not, you can suck it like an ice pop."

4. I will resist the urge to explain to strangers why my son is wearing winter boots, a bathing suit bottom, and an inside-out and backward pajama top. I will be grateful that he is able to dress himself.

5. I will not tell my children that the Play-Doh dried up just because I don't feel like cleaning up after they use it, even though I know it means I'll spend the evening harvesting the colored stuff from the carpet fibers, chair cushions and the dog's fur.

6. I will always protect the rights of my children, especially their right to remain silent.

7. I will learn to accept the outbursts and tantrums as a part of life. After all, I promised to love my husband for better or worse.

8. When my husband and I go to a restaurant without the kids, I will not roll up his sleeves or move the knives from his reach. I will not accompany him to the bathroom and remind him to wash his hands with soap. If my husband wants dessert at the end of the meal, I will not tell him it depends on his behavior.

9. When I'm tired of hearing "mommieeeeee!" a thousand times each day, I will resist changing my name to "Please pass the spinach" or "TV is boring, I'd rather read."

10. I will develop an ability to have a conversation with an adult that doesn't revolve around labor pains or children's toilet habits. I will feel comfortable in the silence that ensues when neither of us can think of any other topic to discuss or remember we can always discuss the weather.

11. I will be more flexible about children's nutritional requirements by counting the ketchup and green crayon as vegetables.

12. When my children beg for a pet, I will buy them each a hutch for the dust bunnies that have multiplied under their beds. I will let them name each dust bunny.

13. I will count how often I repeat the phrase "You'd better listen because I will not repeat myself", until my children actually notice that I have spoken. I will not raise my voice until I have said it at least that many times.

14. When my kids are older (at least 50), I will explain why they never have any chocolate candy left after Mommy and Daddy "check" their Halloween bags.

15. I will be a good, fair and loving parent to my children. I will provide them with enriching experiences and opportunities. I will give them a solid foundation on which to build a useful life. After all, they may eventually be responsible for choosing a nursing home for me to live out my final days

Answer
A little "birdy" told me!

Am I talking to a brick wall?

Are you deaf or something?

Are you lying to me?

As long as you live under my roof, you'll do as I say.

Beds are NOT made for jumping on.

Close the door! You don't live in a barn.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Don't make me get up!

Don't sit too close to the television, it'll ruin your eyes.

Don't talk with your mouth full!

Don't walk away when I'm talking to you!

Eat your vegetables, they're good for you.

Enough is enough!

Go play outside! It's a beautiful day!

How do you know you don't like it if you haven't tasted it?

I didn't ask who put it there, I said "Pick it up!"

I don't care what "everyone" is doing. I care what YOU are doing!

I hope someday you have children just like you.

If God had wanted you to have holes in your ears (eyebrows, tongue, etc.) He would have put them there!

If it were a snake, it would have bitten you.

If you stick your tongue out again it will fall off.

I'm doing this for your own good.

I'm not going to ask you again.

Isn't it past your bedtime?

It's not that I don't trust you, it's that I don't trust everyone else.

Life isn't fair.

Look at me when I'm talking to you.

No child of MINE would do something like that.

Say that again and I'll wash your mouth out with soap.

Shut the door! I'm not heating (air conditioning) the entire neighborhood!

This hurts me more than it hurts you.

Turn that racket (music) down

What did I say the FIRST time?

What if everyone jumped off a cliff? Would you do it, too?

What part of NO don't you understand?

When I was a little girl...

When I was your age, I had to walk ten miles through the snow, uphill, by myself, to go to school.

When you have your own house then you can make the rules!

Who died and left you boss?

You can't start the day on an empty stomach.

You don't always get what you want. It's a hard lesson, but you might as well learn it now.

You have an answer for everything, don't you?

You kids are trying to drive me crazy!

You won't be happy until you break that, will you?

You'll understand when you're older.

Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident.

Answer me when I ask you a question!

Be good.

Don't ask me WHY. The answer is NO.

Don't cross your eyes or they'll freeze that way.

Don't make me come in there!

Go ask your father.

Go to your room and think about what you did!

How can you have nothing to wear? Your closet is FULL of clothes!

How many times do I have to tell you?

I don't care who started it, I said stop!

I don't know is NOT an answer.

I would have never talked to MY mother like that!

If I want your opinion I'll ask for it!

If I've told you once ... I've told you a thousand times.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

If you don't clean your plate, you won't get any dessert.

I'll treat you like an adult when you start acting like one.

I'm going to give you until the count of three...

It's no use crying over spilt milk.

I've had it up to here with you.

Leave your sister (brother) alone!

Never try on anyone else's glasses or you'll go blind.

Now, say you're sorry...and MEAN it!

Someday your face will freeze like that

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Think of those poor starving children in India... (or China, or Africa.)

Were you born in a barn? Close the door -- and DON'T slam it!

When I was your age...

When you have kids of your own you'll understand.

Why? Because I SAID so, that's why!

You are getting on my last nerve.

You can't judge a book by its cover.

You had better wipe that smile off your face before I do it for you.

You just ate an hour ago!

You WILL eat it, and you WILL like it!

You'd forget your head if it wasn't attached to your shoulders!

You will ALWAYS be my baby.

You're going to put your eye out with that thing!

Your father is going to hear about this when HE gets home!

You're the oldest. You should know better.

How do I get over high school?

Kawaii Kut

I graduated last year (2012) and since then I can't stop thinking about it. I can't keep thinking about what went wrong, and how I could've done better. I didn't have a good middle school experience either, but I'm not as obsessed with it as I am with High School...

I wasn't traditionally "bullied", but I was ostracized and outcasted for reasons I'm still trying to figure out. I keep flashing back to things people have said to me, and how misunderstood I was.

Fall of 2012, I went to a VERY local community college, at first I loved it, but then I noticed all the people(from high school were attending) that disliked me (the feeling was mutual) and I became a wreck again. I did not attend that CC for spring semester (2013) and I am now in the process of transferring to another CC in the next city over.

I think it would be best if I surrounded myself with new people, and I could start over on a good foot.
I don't care about having a "network" I'm kind of a loner...

Answer
Things aren't black and white. Your close friends wouldn't appreciate it if you distanced yourself from them because they are from the same "mixed bag" of high school jerks. Maintain close relationships with your close friends with highschool, yes, you may have to consequently hang out with THEIR friends who went to the same highschool, which of whom you don't like...but this is the adult world, people have to hang out with people they don't like in the office, at church, at the neigboorhood bbq, ect..they act fake nice with each other and they mutually understand they don't like each other, it's BS adulthood.

While I HIGHLY recommend your don't START OVER, you should expand your network and not keep all your eggs in the high school basket.

Remember, you don't have to be friends with all of your friends friends, just tolerate their company and act polite. You need to maintain your long standing relationships. If your tired of the catty BS and gossip, try not to overgeneralize and assume it's simply the popular thing to do in your high school...as you all get older the number of chatty cathys and "mean girls" dwindle..those who remain in those categories are the losers who have crap jobs and marry ugly unsuccessful men.

I used to be popular, and now im not and im unpopular? :(?

Q. You know facebook's got that new timeline thing?
Well I used it to scroll back down to 2010 when I was at my highest peak of popularity; I had wallposts everday from people I barely knew with '<3', I had mates talking to me all the time, I used to like peope's status and have about 50+ like's on my status's! I Went out with mates, smoked weed, people saw me as cool and fun, I played out like everyday aswell;

Then.
I started concentrating on school work, actually doing the work for once! (This was at the end of my GCSE's and I had done almost zero work throughout the year so suddenly had to catch up about March-May 2011);
My popularity dropped like a bag of cow ****.
I did, however, get some decent grades for my GCSE's, but ended up not going out and losing friends.

-Then when I started to get phonecalls from friends asking me to come out, I either ignored the phone as it rang, or answered and came up with an excuse not to go out; because I got into the habit of staying in and felt really anxious and scared of going back out!
Today, if you look on my facebook for 2012 it's like... empty. I don't ever even use it, and when I do I literally get ZERO likes on ANYTHING. I'm a ghost. All the people using it seem to be about the age I was when I was extremely popular;
And Now, it's april 2012, i've been doing A-LEVELS since last september; and I absaloutely work my *** of all the time; never go out; never see anyone; became a nerd and hang out with the nerds.
:(
What can I do to get myself popular once again?:(

Answer
Everyone has its up's and down's even artist's have that up and down too , life is a roller coaster.
Idk if you are in high school but thats the way it is in there if you want to rise up you gotta do a lot but at the end is useless cuz u graduate and u will never see those people again and then u start to hang out with people from work and so on.

If you want to be popular again u gotta stop calling people first they gotta call you to hang out.
Do interesting things and people well start talking , do things or wear clothes that no one has seen before be original be you and u will get back to popular but is no big deal i mean u graduate and thats it you are out of there.

good luck and be ur self.

Small school bag dilemma ?

Paige

So I'm looking for a new school bag, because my old one is starting to tear from me wearing it so much.

I was going to buy a purse seperate but decided against it.

So which bag is better looking and better for school. I won't carry that much stuff in there but it needs enough space for me to carry atleast my (small)cosmetic bag, 1-2 notebooks, 1 folders, my phone and wallet.

My life is just really messy. At school, feel like nobody cares about me. I get ignored &i hate it.
Everything bad started around a year ago, may of sophomore year.I fought with a friend of mine & she started spreading rumors & making it look like I was a btch.
Short recap of the story : I was walking with her. I was getting ignored, & I asked her a few questions to see if she was listening, & she wasn't. I told her if she was going to ignore me, I'll just stop talking to her. Then she told all my other frnds how she felt so abandoned & left behind. FKING BULLSHIT.she's the type of girl that can't live without a boyfriend. She had gotten dumped then, & she was literally crying & depressed at school for two weeks.
So after I told her that I'd stop talking to her, she had told EVERYONE about it then, & I had to go explain the situation..& after school, she started SCREAMING at me. She was red, furious, & walked away without even finishing her sentence. What the hell did I do to deserve that? I got ignored first..The next day, she comes up to me & tells me that Im annoying because I worry about school a lot, that I over-react to things, & that I've changed in a bad way.
Uhh. Who was it that started screaming..? Who was the one that was seriously begging for attention when she got dumped? I understand about being sad.. but seriously? for two weeks? I would totally get over it.. Come on. It's high school.. high school relationships rarely last..
Also, how's it annoying to worry about school..? I need to be independent & get a good job & have a nice life to feed myself.. if i played around like her, I would have just ended up at the local community college, & hell no, I dont want that. & who's talking..? Dont ppl change? Do ppl expect me to be the same person ten years ago as now? Good or bad way, she doesn't really have the right to btch at me & tell me I changed, because she's fking annoying too.
I used to be a happy little girl in Freshman year, but that changed. Im not the same person anymore.
So yeah. that's the fight. After that, I just kind of drifted away from the rest of my frnds, & paying attention to more of my grades.
Nobody invites me to go out with them anymore because they figure I'd be too busy for them& i never talk to them outside of school anymore.. I feel really left out.. I confronted all of them about this, but nothing changed..I guess they don't care about me..
Im currently taking 5 AP classes, & one regular class. I got a 4.5 gpa last semester. I know I tend to put things off, but I really dont get sleep. I dont want to give a fk anymore. Junior year is seriously giving me so much stress. I know I shouldn't let it get over me.. I just feel overwhelemed by stress & I dont know how to cope with it.
I also haven't been paying attention to the way I dress. Im just having a really hard time accepting myself as who I am..Makeup seems good, but I have no time to put on that kind of stuff.
As for my family, it's full of problems. My mom is bipolar every single day, my dad is just education obsessed(Im from an Asian family), & he gets so pissed at me when Im trying to write an email to my best friend who happens to live in Maryland, where I used to live before, & oh, just now, he walked in & started yelling at me for not working. My younger brother has absolutely no respect towards me. He wouldn't curse at me or flip me off when my parents are in the house, but when they're out, he calls me a "fking btch" & walks around flipping me off. He has serious anger issues. When he gets angry, he would grab my stuff & throw it down on the ground or the wall, & start screaming & yelling. One time, he punched my wall so hard, it made a dent. He would also slam the door & start screaming & cry in his room. By the way, he's thirteen years old. Four months after, he'll be a freshman in high school. I really dont want to attend the same school as him... & you know what kind of things he gets mad over? not being able to play games because Im either studying on the computer, or he'd just start bothering ME, & then I get mad at him. He has thrown a ruler at my face, & I've bruised my eye once.
Everyone expects so much of me. Everyone seriously expects me to be happy-go-lucky, understand & help with everyone else's shit, get good grades, & be more patient.
I just can't do it anymore. Im not going to kill myself.. =___= but idk. Any kind of advice would be great.Im losing a lot of hair & this stress is giving me bad skin.. I know for a fact that Im in a depression right now... What should I do to cope
with my problems & stress? Feel better about myself & jump out of this never-ending cycle?
Thank you for reading.

Also, I'm Korean. 16 years old, junior in high school. I need to know how to toughen up and deal with my stress and get rid of it.. :(.

Answer
ok, this is going to be a very long answer

i know exactly what you're going through. i'm in my last year of gcse (high school basically) and i remember my equivilent of freashman year.

i used to be immensily angry with serious anger problems. i was depressed and anti-social. it got so bad one time i to punched a wall. it seriously hurt.

my friends also ignored me and lost touch. as for your friend (the one that screamed at you) i say forget her, or let her. she is only doing it to get extra attention. once she sees that it isn't working or you aren't affected then she will most likely stop. if she doesn't then you have to do the one thing that you most likely don't want to do: sit down and talk to her. and yes, people change, it's a part of life, and if she can't deal with it, then maybe you shouldn't be friends with her anymore.
from my own personal experience, there were a group of guys that would not stop picking on me, and it used to get me so angry, but once i stopped showing how angry i got, they eventually stopped.

it's good to be concerened for your grades. many people, especially in high school are afraid of being classed as a nerd for having good grades, or it's cool to fail. but it is just the oppisite. high school is a very important part of school, so for once, it might be alright to be classed as a nerd. means you'll get a better job then them. also, nerds are actually the coolest people to hang out with because they also understand what you are going through.

yes your social life may have decreased because people think that you are too busy, but instead of waiting for an invitation, maybe you could arrange an outing. that's what i did, i started to arrange things instead of waiting to be invited out. your social life will improve (i think, well mine did) and sometimes, it's alright to focus on other things rather then apperence. people should accept you for who you are, not what they expect you to be. you shouldn't have to change yourself to make friends, just be you

as for your family, i understand a little. i live in singapore and i know a lot of asian families and they go through the same thing as you. parents put a lot of pressure on their kids so you aren't alone. maybe you should talk to your dad, and tell him that you need to relax sometimes instead of always working and studying.

as for your younger brother, i can see where he's coming from. sorry to take his side, but i too am a younger sibling and it really pisses me off when my older sis tries to control me or tells me what to do. because of his anger, i would actually suggest (even though it may be the last thing you actually want him to do) signing him up for a boxing club. when i started to get angry, i got a personal trainer and i see him twice a week and it really drains me of my anger. a punching bag also helps.

it may also help you with your stress. working out is a great way to lose stress and it really works for me. also to deal with your stress, i have one thing to say: DON'T BOTTLE IT AWAY!!!!
i did that and about a week before my mock exams i got a test back. i didn't do to well on it. normally i wouldn't get upset but then everything hit me and i broke down in tears (which i never do). so my advice is to go and see a counciller. it may seem like a last resort but they really can help you with techniques and advice. i saw one last year and calmed down a lot and still use them to get rid of stress. they really can help you deal with these sorts of things.

i would also suggest finding a past time that you enjoy most. for example the way i calm down is writing stories or writing a diary entry. just writing anything calms me down and i forget about anything. even if you aren't creative, you could start a diary. i know it sounds girly and immature, but it really helped me. also, talk to your teachers about allowing you to do the past time in class if you feel stressed or like it's too much. teachers are always there to help, no matter how strict they seem.

i know it is a long answer, but i hope you found some of it useful at least. the one thing to remember is that there are lots of people going through the same thing that you are, so it's just finding the best method for you.

hope this all helps!

Any good fund raise ideas I need 4k by june next year, any ideas?

I have to raise $4000 so my high school music class can go to singapore on a band tour for a couple of weeks next year, any good ideas on how I could fund raise towards it? Please I need your help

Answer
If you're legal age, you can get a job with a company. http://jobsearch.about.com/od/teenstudentgrad/a/teenjobsites.htm

Sell gift baskets. Keep it simple because you'll have to deduct your expenses. http://tipnut.com/homemade-gift-baskets/ Every summer college kids sell gift baskets, boxes, cups in our neighborhood. I buy the spa/bathset ones with soaps, lotion, loofah and the tea ones (samples of tea in a cup that likely came from the dollar store or a thrift store). Although I tell myself I'll gift them typically I use them myself. Consider making your own soaps. Links here show craft ideas. http://parentingteens.about.com/od/crafts/Crafts_Craft_Project_Ideas.htm

Raffle an item or items, like a huge gift basket. Try to collect a $500 profit for the basket, but don't settle for less than $100 profit. See the link above for basket ideas. Ask local business to help you by donating coupons to include in a Retail Basket or Reuseable Shopping Bag. A gift card included in a Retail Bag would be more enticing. Again, try to clear at least $100 for each effort, Sell raffle tickets from $3 to $5 to $10 or even $20 if you have a really nice basket with a $100 worth of items.

Have a "Rent a Teen" service. You run errands, do yard work, clean garages or attics, help clean up after a party, babysit, etc. Always let your parents know where you'll be and don't go from one job to another without your parents knowing. Safety first.

Sell $.50 candy bars for $1...just double whatever you paid.

Other fundraising ideas: http://www.fundraising-ideas.org/DIY/UKCollection.htm

Ask your parents to help by selling items to their friends or hit up your other relatives. I did this to help fund my trip to France with the French club in high school. You might be surprised what relatives will give. I was.

Good luck to you!

Why can't Atlanta be more like Sydney?

None None

so i just got back from sydney, and i ask, "Why can't Atlanta be more like Sydney?"

1. Fantastic weather
by the ocean. Bondi beach, Manly beach, sydney harbour, ok atl is landlocked, so no fault.

2. Public Transportation & Infrastructure
- first thing i noticed, everyone takes the bus or train. rich/poor, white, yellow, black.
Why can't ATL be like this? I should also mention, that nearly every public building or park is well-kept
and well-designed. From libraries to architecturally designed parks by the ocean, facilities are kept clean.
In ATL, you'd have defacement everywhere including pissing on MARTA.

3. Public Events
So ATL has stuff in decatur and stuff in the park, but there's always tons of police, and eventually a crime does
occur. Sydney is a well-organized city with super-duper public events. More importantly, I asked several people,
"Is it safe to walk out at night in downtown / harbour area?" The first response I always received was a
dumbfounded look, then by, "Aw mate, no worries! People are friendly here!"
My automatic reply was always, "Haha. Thanks. I'm from Atlanta. We have guns, carjacks, and drugs."
(well, not the last part).

4. How about schools for your kids?
Kids are dressed in uniforms, and everyone, from white folks to immigrants, seems very focused on their education.
Even at 8am, i saw University students heading off to the library to study. Here in ATL, all they care about is
youtube, iphone, etc.

5. How about public health?
i think 90% of all the people i saw were not fat, unlike here in ATL. The women were skinny and athletic: saw a
rather pretty lady carrying a ~40 lb bag with ease. The men were all >~6 ft and quite buff-looking.
In ATL, I see too many women too fat or too skinny, and the men don't act like men. (not being homophobic, but
there's a difference between a "man" and a "wuss.")

so my question is why is ATL like this? Why does our public transportation suck? Why does ATL have guns, glocks,
and gangs, while Sydney has surfing, super weather, and sexy bodies?
Lastly, I should also mention the food -- while probably 30% more expensive than ATL -- ROCKS.
Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian Lamb, Indian -- all very very very authentic.
ATL -- everything is Americanized -- too much salt, too much oil, too much fat.

gawd, I'm here right now looking at a beautiful sunrise, and it makes me depressed to even think about ATL.
i mean, even ATL's movies suck. "Drumline?!" "ATL!?" about folks in the "hood" trying to "make it big"
while avoiding getting shot?? that's such an AWFUL plot line and REALLY bad for
tourism. In Sydney, you'd have movies about...
'building the sydney opera house' or 'korean love story by the sydney bridge' or 'surfing the big one'
not getting shot or driving a hummer from the drug money!!! =( =(

*also, NO ONE visits Atlanta. Ppl from ALL 'ROUND HTE WORLD will visit NYC, LA, San Diego, Sydney.
Russians, Japanese, Chinese, Canadians, etc.
the only people who visit ATL are those that have to (business/work) or those that don't have the money to visit
elsewhere.
LA comes close with the beaches and weather
NYC comes close with the transportation
Portland and Seattle comes close with the politeness.

Atlanta is just so far off in everything: no beach, crime, bad government services, sh*tty food, fat people,

Answer
Hehe.. Great thoughts and articulated it well.. I can really feel you frustration on moving from Sydney to Atlanta.

There are no alternate for Heaven.. Some times even in heaven too we might think of not able to see any dark..

We can know and enjoy the glory of a place only if we misses it.. Your words reminded me of the blessing that I have in Sydney!!

I'm going surfing in Syd, so I will need this language, which one?

Q. Bathers or togs?

Ex--- Bring ur bathers and a sandwich! surfing can get u to work up an appetite!

Ex---- Everyone is wearing green togs! Must be St. Patricks day!

I give u thanks :D

Answer
If you're in Sydney then use the word bathers or maybe swimmers or boardies.
I think togs has only ever been used to refer to a swimsuit in Queensland not the other states.
We always called them togs when I was a kid in Queensland. In Queensland we call a school bag a school port and school morning recess is little lunch.

Why cant kids wear backpacks in middle school?

Michelle

i cant wear backpacks to school. wud up with that.

Answer
At my middle school and highschool they won't allow backpacks or bags in class because they suspect that you're carrying a weapon or illegal things. Back when I was in 8th grade (3 years ago) some kid brought a rifle to school and put us in lock down. And he was expelled. That same day, we had a bomb threat that I nearly got expelled for. I was so in shock I couldn't cry or anything. It was insane.

I'll be visiting some families in India and would like to bring a gift from the US for them, what can I bring?

kai_wahine

the families I'm visiting are low income and live in the rural south of india.

Answer
Hey come on guys, those are our families try to give your best to them....they might be worth of it. I have 70% of my family relatives live in Villages only. I visited India almost 5 times in 6 years. Each time I gave them different items. I preferred in the following way,

For woman --- The leather tiny hand bags which has mirror in it
For young woman staying at home---nice fancy items such as hair clips, nail polish etc
For young woman who goes to school---Nice pencil sharpeners, something useful for their studies
For middle age man---Buy some Nice cigerettes, or Cigars etc..if they smoke otherwise nice shirts of different sizes (m,l,xl)
For young man--- A belt, purse, or even a shoe, sun glasses....etc
For old age-- better buy some pain relief stuff like Bengay, heating pads etc

For Kids----- Have some characters like spiderman, superman etc, some nice little playing, try to avoid battery based toys.....

OTHER THAN THAT...CHOCOLATES ARE COMMON, THEY LOVE IT, AND BUY SOME CALCIUM CHEWING TABLETS CHOC FLAVOR to give to some to women who are suffering with their menstrual problems....

Well, I always plan 2 months ahead and wander around shops in sale season to collect the things of my choice.

Top of these, I prefer to buy lot of cloths like T-shirts, shirts etc to give it some miscellaneous relatives.

How to deal with racism from teens at school?

My parents moved and we ended up in a new city with a new High School. First day I met a really nice guy, and we became friends. But as soon as I started hanging out with him, I noticed things.
Students would bang on the windows when we were in the library, daring him to come out, several of them threating to attack him. People throw things at him, and if he ever puts his school bag down kids grab it and hide it, or place it the rubbish bins. Iâve seen him take his bag out of the rubbish bin so many times it almost seems normal. We were talking to math once and a huge guy walked in front of us and just slammed into him a wall while his friends stood and laughed.
Iâve been targeted as well but not as much, just small things like throwing paper at the back of my head in class, locking me out of classes when the teachers leave the room and just the usual name talking, like deeming me crazy and whispering about me. But I donât get nearly as much as he does, and thatâs just for being his friend.
I didnât make any sense. He was nice, good looking and smart, with a little bitter at times. I asked time what he thought the bullying was about and he put bluntly he thought most of it was just racism. I never have really thought of it that way before.
Sanjay âs parents are from India and came here when his mother was just a few months pregnant with him. Sure, both his parents were born outside of the country but my friend grew up in the same area all of the people in the school did. So I started looking around, nearly all students in this school are white, but surely in a Western modern school racism would not go that far?
So I watched more closely, listened to what people say. They refer to him as a dirty Mexican⦠which is stupid because his parents are Indian and none of his family have been to Mexico.
We can tried telling teachers but because itâs just us against what seems like the majority we are always made up as the bad guys, they make stuff up.

Iâve tried to help him but heâs just quit caring, and I think he may be really depressed. Iâm worried suicide might be on the cards, and as his best friend I donât know what to do. What can I do?
I donât get this racism, why? What can I do?

Looking for a school bag?

Emily

I need a bag for school and I can't find any I like in the shops by me, so I was hoping you guys could help me out :D

I'm not really fussy about the colour, but I would really like a white one, and it has to be a handbag/ shoulder bag and can't be too small because I need to fit some books in it! I hate having really small handles too. I'm not too bothered about the style as long as it looks nice :)
Also would be good if it wasn't too expensive! & I live in the UK so Uk sites would be good also! Sorry If I'm being too fussy! :P Best answer for my favourite bag =D thank you!

Answer
http://www.primark.co.uk/

Everyone at our school has Primark bags!
They are quite cheap, look very nice, come in lots of different styles, and are big enough to hold lots of books!
They look like New Look bags but they are a lot cheaper.

http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/handbags-and-purses_30037?trail=1002%3Acat30037

Sometimes New Look can be expensive, but I got my new School Bag for £6 there, and it fits all my books!

I love Republic! :)

Top Shop can be expensive, but I think they have a Sale on right now.

http://www.uttamlondon.com/index.php

Not many people know about this shop, but you should check our your nearest store, because they sell lovely bags, and they're not too expensive especially if you go to an Outlet store!

http://www.monsoon.co.uk/Day-Bags/All-Day-Bags/icat/daybag&itemsperpage=1000&bklist=icat,5,shop,accessorize,alldaybags,daybag

http://www.monsoon.co.uk/Evening-Bags/All-Evening-Bags/icat/eveningbags&itemsperpage=1000&bklist=icat,5,shop,accessorize,alleveningbags,eveningbags

Monsoon can also be expensive sometimes, but their bags are really nice quality, and there are a lot of nice white ones there.

http://www.octopusshop.com/fashion-and-handbags.html

This shop is called Octopus, I don't know where your nearest shop is, but if you can get to one, they sell really cool and quirky hand bags, purses, accesories, etc.
I love their bags, because no one else has one. :)

I love their White Panda handbags!!

http://www.octopusshop.com/catalog/product/view/id/2420/s/panda-handbag-bbcaq3ab0002/category/6/

Well, I hope this helped, and don't worry ~ You're not being too fussy, I'm like this with bags too!! :)

What to put in paty favor bags for middle school age kids?

Sassy&Mand

Lol sorry for asking this if the answer is like completley obvious! Uh around $5 each bag(?). Ideasa for both boys and girls? Ummm? yep! i really need help with this question! and also like places i can get the stuff reasonably priced! Uh the partys weird and it's like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hello Kitty and uhh a little super hero theme! hahaha ahh by the way this is a suprise party for my little sister! So yep post your ideas bellow! Thank you!
Mia

Answer
I suggest planning out who is coming to the party before hand, and giving different gift bags depending on the gender of the person. To tell you the truth, I don't really think you should base the party bags on the theme, because it's just going to be way to hard and the party bags should have things that people actually can use and want to have. (Just a suggestion, I don't mean to sound snobby or offend you)

For girls, go to Target, Walmart or the Dollar Store. Those stores sometimes have some one dollar lipglosses or chapsticks. Walmart has these travel/mini bottles of hair product which would make a great addition to the girls' gift bags. I suggest getting mousse or hairspray. (about 1-2 dollars each) Maybe put in a chocolate candy bar, or in Target there's some body scrubs/washes that can be super cheap. (the body scrubs/washes that I've seen are usually around 1-2 bucks) A great idea is getting nail polish. Wet N Wild and I Love My Nails have nail polishes that are only one dollar. The colors I suggest are dark blue, black, white, or clear. Those are just some ideas. You can pick a few of them that you think is the best and fit in the $5 range, but don't buy all of them.

In Walmart, there are mini tubes of Axe deodorant. I honestly can't tell you the price because I'm a girl and I don't pay attention to this stuff, but it's pretty cheap. At my local Walmart, around the check-out places there are these packs of temporary tattoos. There's 50 of them in one pack and less than $5 per pack, which I think is a pretty good deal. You could put in 1 or more tattoos in each party bag, (I don't know how many people are coming to this party so you can maybe put more in each bag). Also I highly suggest sticking one or two (or more) candy bars. Boys are harder than girls (in my opinion) to think of gifts, so candy bars would be great because who doesn't love candy bars? So yeah, those are my suggestions for boy gift bags.

Hope I helped!

What kind of backpacks/bags do most High School kids use?

Stephanie

I'm going into High School and im not totally shure what kind of bag or backpack I would use? Cause I see most girls use something like a beach bag, i'm not really shure what those would be called.
Please help.

Answer
A few idea's:
Okay so most girls at my high school use big bags like you said because we have to bring our gym clothes, after school clothes (sports), lunches, ect.
So i bring on the days i have no after school activites and no gym class my vera bradley bookbag. I carry it and then when i go to lunch my lunch is in it, along with my normal things in my purse.

Another idea would be an across the chest bag. I have a coach one. They are around 100 dollars and are very in. you can put just the few things you need need in it for the day if you do not want to bring a purse. A lot of girls not just at school but in magazines ect. are using these.

Finally there is the big bag. Victoria Secrets Pink is a brand we all use. I have a Marc Jacobs one i caught on sale. American Eagle, Hollister, or Forever 21 will have one also that is trendy.

As far as the backpacks go we all use Northface. They are 100 to 200 dollars and are very in. you can order them online or get them from a sporting goods store like Dick's ect.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

work experience at a primary school please help!?

Danni_Doll

i am working at a primary school for a week as part of my work experience but i have a few questions,

anyone done this for work experience before?
what did you wear?
what will i need to take with me? any pens, pencils etc?
do i need to take a bag? how big?
thankyou very much. any help would be appreciated whether you have done this for work experience or not (:

Answer
I took a class for two years during high school, called Future Teachers of America. So, I guess it can be considered work experience. The teacher was there, and we were little tutors going around helping the students with their work, organizing the area, and preventing general chaos. Don't wear anything with holes or something that your parents might be embarassed seeing you in. If your parents are a bad example, your big protective brother, or a priest. Jeans are fine, as long as they aren't low cut. Low cuts are bad when a six year old boy sings the "I see London, I see France, I see So and So's underpants" song. I only say this, because one, its very embarassing, and two, it's distracting the students from their work. A t-shirt is okay, but a turtle neck, or a nice non-insulting shirt that isn't too tight, or loose, is good. I live in a year round cold climate, so I always wore a sweater. Bring a pencil, with an eraser. It helps if you are trying to explain a problem to a student. If you want to take anything else, sure bring a bag, but be prepared to set that aside from everything else in the classroom. Only go and get something if you need it. We had everything ready for us, and the teachers already had their supplies. A small notepad is good too. If you have any questions on how to handle the kids, quickly jot it down, and ask your supervisor, boss, or even the teacher, when he or she has time.
Your first day come five/ten minutes early. You will be at the classroom slightly prior to everything being disrupted. This gives you time to try to get adjusted to your surroundings. If the school has the students going to different classrooms and teachers, most primary schools don't, you could contact the teacher to see what exactly is needed of you. I hope I helped, and I hope that you enjoy yourself!

Any advice for an NQT in a challenging school?

s

Answer
wow i was an NQT 8 years ago in London.
boy does time fly fast.

observe as much as you can.
listen to other teachers and get a discriminating ear. create a filing system and get a parent volunteer to help. reach out to your parents if you can.
try and differentiate yourlessons- you dotn have to do a song and dance lesson every day- pace yourself throuh t he week and if you have to have a day off as a mental helth/sanity day when you are giving tests to all your kids.

get the kids to be working harder than you!!!

slowly you pick up a bag of trick-s a sense of humor a decisiveness that you also mean business and the confidence to actually build relationships with the kids.

keep sleeping as muchas you can and don't take anythign extra on- like a club . just breathe.
pubs are good on a friday night - ust dotn make them your home!

the year i joined my school almost 50% were NQTS.
we survived- some still teach others went into easier schools.

HELP. I need some cool, MEGA 'interesting' crafty ideas...?

CocoaButte

Hi, so like here's abit about me. I'm a girl. I'm 17 and I'm in high school. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. Lately I've been thinking really hard about starting something up that could help my community, and were I could earn some pocket money too. I was thinking of doing something crafty. Coz I'm really creative and stuff. There is this Org. that makes handbags out of recycled plastic bags. I think that they are really cool! I want to do something similar, but I'm kindoff stuck. I thought of going around collecting empty glass bottles, painting them, and selling them as vases. But its kind of impractical I think, coz a lot of people are poor and wouldn't want to spend money on something like that. So it would also have to be cost efficient. Any ideas are good though. I need as many creative thoughts as possible! Thanks in advance! =D

Answer
Start with community service no pay. Our school children must have 80hrs of non paying work to service others in the community before they can graduate with honors. While volunteering to help others like minded good folks will see your cause/ worth and help you help yourself and others.
Reaching out starts with by going within ourselves to sprout. A seed underground can not be seen while in is the the birthing state then POP the plant is there before your eyes. That is how thinking to actions are. All thoughts are just that, until the thought moves forward into action. Go do something.

dating this guy . . . . .?

MEHNAZ B

I have a good guy friend for the last ten years, and we were both still in high school. We had did all hanging out together as a group of friends, holidays together, got to be 'part of the guys' and just all had fun together. We had went to the same university and had the university experience together as well.

About 5 years he had gotten married (arranged) and just recently got divorced with a child as the outcome. He was married for 5 years. He had kept in touch throughout the marriage (we had not went out or anything else like that). So obviously knew his situation and that from what he had told me. His now x wife had known that we had a close relationship, and knew who the group of friends were.

On friday night, he had come over to meet my way older brother n cousin. HE made himself at home, and the rest they seemed to have gotten along. Yesterday, my brother had called to voice his concerns which where very similar if not the same as mines (regarding the child, where we stand, and all of that. He thinks its safer just to remain friends than a friendship like any brother would say - not up to his standards n I could do better).

Last night we had went out for a drive around town and to see what was happening and to collect something to eat. While we were together, he said that he had seen a few guys looking and trying to get a look while we were together n a guy asked him for my number. He obviously declined giving it. When he mentioned it that every time we go out, guys cant stop staring ( not because of bad dressing, was in a reasonable length mini skirt with a sleeveless top, an open toe shoe and a bag - we live in Johannesburg so its still summer).

What would you guys think? of the situation, comments?'

girls that wear mini skirts are beautiful and confident

Penguin Backpacks?! (:?

Isabella

I am a Junior in High School and penguins are my favorite animal! I am looking for a penguin backpack that is large or normal size, not kids. If anyone can help me I will be in dept to them forever!

Answer
I just got a backpack from Hot Topic the other day and they had a penguin backpack there. I got the skunk back pack. xD I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I think it's so cute.

http://sfcentre.nearbynow.com/store/hottopic-4888/product-99946569-Penguin_Hoodie_Backpack-San_Francisco-CA-94103

I had to look it up on a different website than the actual Hot Topic website because it's down right now.
But they have those at every Hot Topic. :D

New Student In MIddle school?

Q. Okay, So I am going to a new middle school in a month, and I am so nervous! I am used to my old middle school that had only 200 people in it.... but that was pre school through eighth grade... but the building split between it. And we only changed between 4 classes and two electives! This school has 8000 people and it is only 6-8th! The school is HUGE too. I am afraid I will get lost. And that I will not know anyone and not have anyone to sit next to at the lunch table... What do I do with this? How will I configure my way around the school? Also, what do I do about the lunch table thing, I am kinda shy .-.! Also, I was making my school supply list, does this sound good for a 7th grader?

4 1 inch or 1/2 binders
5 packs of loose leaf paper (I USE THIS STUFF LIKE MAD)
Markers for my own enjoyment
5 Note books
2 packs of Index cards (I use them for studying
2 packs of Mechanical Pencils and Lead
6 packs of regular pencils and a hand sharpner
1 pack of pens
A mirror for my locker
A calendar for my locker or pocket
Sticky notes to put in my locker/or a whiteboard
Dividers for binder
10 folders (for electives and classes)
*anything else*?

Also, what are some good ways to study other than index cards?

I bought clothes, but those aren't a big deal for meh :DD

Another thing: What to put in my bag I can carry around? I wear makeup on occasion.. this is what I have for my tote.

Make up bag with mascarra and eyeliner and concealer
Pads *I haven't started my period yet, but just in case*
Cell phone *turned off*
Gum *for when I can't focus it helps*

Anything else?

Also, for my locker I plan to put :
My bag at school
Pads or put them in my bag
decorations and pictures to make it mine
extra old gym shoes in case I forgot
Socks and a gym outfit
extra underwear...

Anything I am forgetting for this school year? I want it too be a good one ;)

Answer
Well... Thats a big change for you. About making friends, there's sure to be other kids who are just coming into school too. The easiest way is to just talk to the kids in your classes. Even though youre shy, people will start talking to you on their own, because a new kid is always interesting. Your friends can help you get to class too. But you can probably get a map from the principal. You'll probably be a little lost for the first couple of weeks, but soon enough you'll know the school like the back of your hand..

Ok so first off, that is alot to carry around. And your new school might not allow for bags to carry around. so might I suggest insead getting a large 3 inch 3 ring zippered binder( you can find it at target) and get one with a shoulder strap. It makes things easier to take around. You can divide it into sections with pocket dividers. If you can take around a bag, but not a backpack, get a overly large hobo style shoulder bag that you can pass off as a 'purse'

Unless you actually dont share pencils, get more. Because kids in big schools steal them.... well more likley in all schools kids steal them..They steal pens too. especially if theyre nice ones.

Your locker sounds nice, but considering your school is so big, you can account on you classes being pretty far apart, unless they split the school into sections. You probably wont have that much time to get to your locker.

Studying, index cards are like the best way ever invented. But studying in groups well too. looking over your notes a little each night works too. (lol its funny cause i dont do any of this.. XD)

Just sayin, you better be good at concealing gum chewing because they probably wont let you. No matter how much it helps/

Yes the extra gym clothes and shoes are a good idea.

The pads and extra underwear are a good idea, but you should keep them on you.Although pretty much all of your teachers would let you go, its not fun to speed-walk down the hallway worrying about.... you know....

Makeup is overrated. But if you must, keep it in your locker. Teachers who have to teach alot of kids like to make sarcastic remarks.....It keeps them sane.

Candy goes a long way in middle school. So does gum. Its like the black market. Dont forget that. XD

Singapore American School?

Timetochan

I'm moving to Singapore soon and will be entering 9th grade at SAS. Has anyone attended that school? What's it like? How hard the entrance exams? How hard is it to actually get in? Is the school really hard, because I'm moving from Hawai'i. Are the people there snobby because my family isn't rich and we're going as expats and I'm not skinny... at all. Like, over the normal weight. As in, obese. It's a sore spot for me and I just wanted to know if they bag on you for that :(

And if you have any tips about SAS/Singapore in general that would be great :) Thank you so much!

Answer
Well, SAS is only meant for Amercian citizens and their children . So if you are accepted in US where you are in Hawaii, so why shouldn't be you be accepted here?.

Singapore is a modern tropical country, in many ways like US and Hawaii. You should have no problems living and studying here and you will enjoy yourself greatly.

So stop worrying over unnecessary and untrue issues, come and live your life to the fullest. Regarding your weight, don't let it bother you for there are many more obese people than you.

What kind of chores do children living in Singapore have to do?

Shamillion

Answer
At home,a lot of parents do not want their children to do household chores. They have maids. The children were all over-protected by the parents. The young people have grown up in this age where they do not lift a finger to do any household chores or anything for the family. Some of them even have their maids to carry their bags for them when they go to school. They only want their children to concentrate on their studies. For the children to study & do well in school, the parents or the maid will be doing all the work for them.

Where did this originate? Where parents carry the kids backpack?

TS

I was with my sister picking her kids up from school (elementary) and all the OTHER parents were carrying their kids backpack. I mean A LOT of them. When did kids stop carrying their own backpacks? Is this something new? Do you think its right?

Answer
Because parents want to further pussify their kids.
The schools (in their infinite wisdom) are admittedly loading down even the tiniest of kids with heavy books, but that's still no reason for parents to carry their backpacks 50 feet to their MomMobile. Kids don't even walk any more! They get driven even if home's less than a few blocks, and now they can't even carry their own books to the minivan.
Pathetic. Not the kids, mind, they have no choice. What's pathetic is the parents who create this kind of dependence.

Parents these days won't let kids do anything for themselves because the more a kid does for themselves, the more independent they become, and the more independent they are, the less *control* a parent has on them, and total control over everything (until at least age 18, but usually it's closer to 30 now) is the current aim. It's just a sign of the times that parents can't even allow their kids the independence to carry their own bag.

I don't see it as spoiling at all. I don't think most of the kids want this kind of babying; it's the parents forcing it on them. I know that my kids at least would object if I took something as trivial as being responsible for their own things out of their hands.
