Would you not praise her achievement?

News Item in The Hindu,a National daily published from Chennai,India.
2/2/2009-Monday-search Yahoo/Google for photo (a rare Aasana )
KARUR: A Karur lass has courted international acclaim by claiming the overall championship in the 16th International Yoga Festival held recently in Puducherry(old Pondichery).

Coveting glory is not new for 13-year-old S. Sabarithaa who bagged the championship in the female category at the yoga festival besting over 200 competitors from India, China, France, Russia, Hong Kong, Japan, the United States and Germany. She stood first in the preliminary competition. Then came the real test _ she had to test her skills with winners from six other categories for the championship title.

That Sabarithaa did with élan scoring pretty high with her acrobatic skills in the practical side of the competition that saw her perform 10 optional asanas and showing remarkable theoretical acumen in the viva voce part of the competition. The Eighth Standard student of the KVBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Karur, had achieved in 2009 what she had yearned over the past four years.

Regarding flight trip with a 6 month old?

Akshu

Hi I am taking my 6 month old boy to India this month end. What are the do's and dont's that I have to follow when i reach India(as its peak summer that time). Also let me know the facilities available for infants in Singapore airlines. What must i be prepared for the flight??
thanks so much in advance.
I am traveling from San francisco to Chennai

Answer
I'm a former Flight Attendant and I now fly a lot with my own three children. We usually travel between Europe and California about twice a year. I've never flown Singapore Airlines. We usually go the other direction. I've worked trips into Delhi but I haven't been to Chennai.

Six months is actually a good age to travel. It gets trickier when they can run! You may have him crawling all over the place but for the most part, you'll be able to keep up with him.

The one thing I know about Singapore Airlines is that you're sure to get good customer service. They have HUGE crews. I was floored when I saw their armies of F/A's coming off flights. Many are teenagers. There are not the age limitations that you find on western companies so don't be shocked to see kids just out of school serving you.

I have never used any sort of medications to get my children to sleep on any of those flights. At that age especially, they do nodd off at some point of the journey, more if it's at night.

I also think he's too young for a portable DVD player. I got one when my youngest was 3 years old. They are kind of heavy to cart around and could easily break. How much screen watching does he do? Mine were not very interested, especially with a small screen, at that age.

Bring a few quiet toys but a small selection. Again, short attention spans and he'll be more interested in his new surroundings.

First of all, I really recommend bringing a car seat and using it onboard. Make sure your car seat is approved for use on aircraft. Unfortunately, Singapore Airlines does not allow infant bucket-style seats or any rear-facing seats. As you know, your child is safer rear-facing as a Flight Attendant, I'm a little at a loss as to why they even have this rule;
http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/content/before/plan/specialneeds.jsp#Header5

If you can use your seat on board, the seat will get to your destination without risking it being damaged or lost in luggage.

If you don't have a seat for him, request it at check-in. Ask if the flight is full, and if not, they can "block" the seat next to you, only using it if they really need it. They often do this for families.

Bring the seat to the gate, even if they are unsure that you'll get a seat. This way, if you don't manage it, they will "gate check" your seat, sending it down with the strollers and wheelchairs. This is gentlier than checking it in at the desk.

I also recommend trying to sit at the bulkhead. These are the seats with the wall in front, located in different places depending on the aircraft. Bulkheads are easier with children since no one is leaning in front of you and there's probably room to crawl on the floor.

If you have a travel system, you can use the stroller until you get to the door of the aircraft and then it'll be "gate checked".. You'll have it again, by the door of the aircraft when you arrive. If you have a convertible car seat (going to 40lbs), there are a number of contraptions you can use to wheel it around. Not promoting these sites! Just examples;
http://www.gogobabyz.com/products/gogo_kids.html
http://www.amazon.com/Traveling-Toddler-Attach-Rolling-Carry/dp/B000JHN3AS
http://www.onestepahead.com/product/osa/363756.html

I simply strap mine to a small metal luggage cart and that works great.

If you do have a stroller, bring a bungee cord and double secure it before leaving it at the door of the plane. They can get damaged if they pop open en route. Make sure the claim ticket can be seen and isn't squished or hidden. Be sure to ask when disembarking where the stroller is.

Bring at least 1/3 more diapers than you think you'll need. I saw so many parents run out on flights when I was working! Wrap them in plastic bags and throw a bunch of rubber bands around them to save room in your carry-on.

For a formula fed baby, I really recommend using the bottles with plastic liners. Traditional bottles are too difficult to wash onboard because of the kind of sinks on airplanes. I premeasured the powder and rolled them up, placing the rolls in a ziplock bag. Then you throw the liners away as you use them and only have the ring and nipple to clean.

If you use bottled water, be sure to give yourself enough time to buy some once you're past security. Make sure you have enough! The water on the aircraft is filtered tap so decide if you're comfortable using that for your baby. Bottled water runs out fast on flights and we never had any extra for baby bottles.

Be sure you baby does not need the bottle warmed. Get him used to a room-temperature bottle before leaving. This is unnecessary health-wise and a real pain to do while travelling. I warmed many bottles on my flights but I wasn't there in the check-in line, the security line or the waiting area! Babies do great with room-temperature bottles.

Make sure you have at least one change of clothes. I would bring two for such a long journey. At that age, I simply dressed mine in sleep suits for flying. No one will care so keep him comfortable. Bring extra socks if he crawls so that he doesn't pick up anything nasty on the floor and to keep his hands clean.

Hopefully you have a good baby carrier. They're so useful for flying, especially at this age. I had a sling but other parents swear by their wraps and pouches. The Ergo and Beccos are other popular carriers for travel that go on the back.

I liked the sling because I could slide my babies from into and out of a stroller or car seat without waking them. It also doubled as a blanket, baby changer, breastfeeding cover-up and sunshade! My sling was magic for calming my babies during the flight. Other parents wanted one when they saw how easy it made my travels. Avoid front packs like the Bjorn since they're so bad for both the parents' and child's back. A good carrier should go to at least age 2.

Many flying tips say to make the child suck on something or drink during take-off and landing. This isn't accurate. ENT specialists say to have the child awake about an hour before landing (top of descent, landing or touch-down is too late).

http://www.entcda.com/AAOHNSF/earsandaltitude.htm

I can confirm that is when I saw problems at work. Take your child to the doctor in the last few days before you fly to make sure his ears are clear and infection-free. Heathy ears can handle pressurization changes.

About 8 years ago, I wrote an article on flying with children for an expat newsletter. Over the years many parents have contributed, both on line and in Real Life. I later put it on a blog so that parents had access to non-commercial information from someone with both practical and professional experience on the web.

Hope it goes smoothly and have a good trip!

Bag shopping for school?

I have been looking for a bag to carry my school books that is a tote or messenger bag. I am looking for one under 30 dollars.Could someone show me some websites or recommend a bag or place to look?

Thanks =)

Answer
I found an adorable one that is basically between a tote and messanger bag. Look in stores at JCpenny, they have cuter prints and it looks a lot cuter than the website picture shows. But here are the ones they have online-

Japanese High School Bags?

cherie

Does anyone know where I can find those book bags used by Japanese high-school girls? Here is a picture of what I mean:

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/9942/sb3mg8.jpg

They're quite elusive; and, even if they're available on eBay, they are extremely pricey. Does anyone know an online shop directly located in Hong Kong, Japan or Korea that offers these items at a reasonable price and can ship them internationally? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Yahoo! Japan has high school bags and accepts orders from other countries. Yahoo! Japan is written in Japanese, of course, and you need to create Yahoo! Japan ID first. If you don't read Japanese, you need to find a reliable person who understands Japanese and is willing to help you. You have to give her/him your personal information to order the bags, so be careful whom you ask!

Louis Vuitton Backpack???

Whorehayy

Hi... ok I've been wanting to but a LV Bosphore Backpack and I am a guy (100% not gay) I just wanted to know if it would make me look too feminine. I still go to school and I dont want kids to think im gay for buying a LV backpack. also can anyone tell me where I can buy one that is not too expensive (i do not care if it is fake) i just want this backpack for a cheap price.
this is what the backpack looks like.

http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11291624&SectionID=
OK if the backpack looks feminine then is there a LV backpack that doesn't look feminine?

Answer
hm, no offense but i dont like it so much. however, they probably sell it on ebay or amazon for cheap price [but might be fake]. they might have it at LV outlets too for lower prices. however, i dont suggest you use it- it does look very feminine, especially if you're afraid that ppl. will think you're gay. if i were you, i would stick with jansport backpacks(most ppl. use those) sorry, just my opinion.

Which backpack will last longer?

I've had terrible trouble with bookbags. My past three have all gotten holds in them. The first one was from target. The lining in between the pockets ripped out. The second was an Eastsport from Wal*mart. The plastic-y stuff that lines the inside chipped off and a hole was made. My third and most surprising was an Adidas duffle bag. Not a full size, just one main pocket. It got holes around the bottom edge. Which one of these two bags do you think will withstand a FEW years instead of just one or two?

oh, and unless you pay for it, i'm not going any more expensive than $30. this is highschool. not a backpacking trip.

Answer
Buy cheap and get low-grade stuff like those two bags.
Then complain in a year the base fell out...
School books are heavy and they've got corners and edges that wear through materiels more than backpacking stuff does.
Unless you go backpacking with a bunch of school books.
School bags get a lot of use...
They get more use in a year than most bags on backpacking trips get in a year.
What's the deal?...a thirty-dollar bag that lasts one year or a fifty-dollar bag that lasts three years.
So which is the best bargain?
My Karrimor cost $70 and is twelve years old. Not a hole worn in it anywhere after using it on more than twenty big trips hiking and touring and almost daily use for shopping and local photo trips with heavy equipment (big heavy wildlife lenses and heavy tripods) and it's still waterproof...the Alps, the Andes,Machu Pichu, Atacama Desert, Mozambique jungles, Malaysian rain-forest (Lived East for a while), all over Europe.
Cost so far....less than $6 a year.
I won't be replacing it for many years yet.
Good savings for more trips......12 thirty-dollar bags would have cost $360.
No kidding....

can someone who speaks fluent spanish help me translate this letter from english to spanish? (for school)?

jennyx0x

everything below is what i need translated. thanks :)

-Where did you go?
-What did you do?
-What happened at the airport?
-What did you do when you were there?

I went to Australia. I planned my vacation two months in advance and packed a week before. I brought my friends and family. When we arrived at the airport we made sure we had all of our luggage. All the kids were excited to see the planes take off. We went by security to get our bags checked. We had a lot of metal items taken away from us. After about an hour and a half we finally got on the plane and took off. The ride was about 24 hours long. It was boring and miserable, but worth the wait. When we got to the hotel we all instantly went to sleep. The next day we woke up early and visited all the attractions of australia. We saw kangaroos, went scuba diving, and saw the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It was a fun vacation but it soon became time to go home. The ride back felt even longer than the ride there.

Answer
¿-qué hizistes?
¿-qué pasó en el aeropuerto?
¿-qué hizistes cuándo estabas ahi?

Fui a Australia. Planifiqué mis vacaciones dos meses por adelantado e hice las maletas una semana antes. Traje a mis amigos y familia.

Please, can you help me with this? Please!?

Kate

I need to have the first part of my chapter 1 done tomorrow, and I just finished it, but it's...really bad. And I can't make it better, no matter what I change. Can you please help me make it better? I don't know what to do to improve it!

âSydney from Kids at Heart, how may I help you?"
I glance at Aaron in the living room, whose eyes are glued to the screen and fingers rapidly clicking the controller. Perfect. "I'd like to enroll my son in your after school care."
"Great! Can I have your name please?"
Damn. What was it again? I cover the phone with my hand, calling out to Aaron, "Hey, what's mom's name?"
"Jessica," he says simply, then turns to give me a suspicious look. "Why?"
"Uh, school," I say, but I can tell he doesn't buy it. He pretends to start playing his game again but he's a horrible faker. There's no doubt in my mind he's all ears to me now.
"Jessica Bernal," I say quietly in the phone. I hear her typing on the other line, then her bubbly voice comes through again.
"Nice to meet you Jessica. Can I have a phone and social security number?"
I tell her the information, all the while eying the clock just to my right. Only five minutes left. Why didn't I do this earlier?
"Ma'am?"
Oh, right. "Um, I will be out of town tomorrow, so my daughter will bring him in."
"Fabulous. We open at 4:00 P.M."
"Wait, what? I thought Kids at Heart opened at 3:30 P.M?"
"Kids at Heart?" Aaron calls from the living room. Shoot, I forgot about Aaron. âLyss no, I told you I can take care of myself!â
âSo see you tomorrow at six then,â I say quickly into the phone before hanging up. âAaron, wait,â I say as he runs up the stairs. But he ignores me until he reaches the top, then yells without turning, âIâm not going!â I sigh when I hear the resounding slam of his bedroom door. Thatâs going to take some fixing up.
âWhat did you do?â
I jump a little in surprise, but then I see mom standing there. Sheâs carrying a few shopping bags in her left hand, balancing a plant pot in the crook of her right arm. Her brown hair is tied back in a bun and her mascara is a tad smudged, which I know will give her a heart attack when she gets a hold of a mirror.
âMind giving me a hand?â she asks me, raising her eyebrow.
âOkay,â I say, carefully taking the plant and placing it on the kitchen counter. Ignoring her grimace, I wipe my hands on my jeans, not liking the feel of the dirt between my fingers.
âYou know, thereâs some paper towels over there by the sink.â
âI know.â
She sighs. âOf course you do. Now make yourself useful and put away the groceries. I need a hot shower.â
Sheâs almost up the stairs when she turns and gives me a look. âWhat did you do to Aaron? He seemed pretty angry when I came in.â
âNothing, really. Heâs fine, mom, we just had a little argument. Thatâs all.â
She nods and purses her lips. âWell, fix it then.â After she leaves, I turn to put away the groceries, muttering not-so-nice things about the shopping bag lady.
Make yourself useful? What have I been doing for the past year? Only taking care of Aaron and running the household while you fix your damn make-up and drink hot tea with your girlfriends.
âHell with it,â I mutter as I grab a grocery sack from the counter. Itâs heavier than I thought it would be. I start carrying it to the fridge when I hear a ripping sound from the bottom of the bag. Looking down, I see the milk carton laying there on the tile floor. I pick it, thinking that maybe I got lucky and it didnât break. But as soon as it leaves the floor, liquid starts dripping steadily from the side, and after further investigation I realize that thereâs a hole and the milk is leaking.
I try to swallow the lump in my throat as I grab a mop from the closet. But as I mop the milk mess, I feel my eyes start to dampen and I choke back a sob.
âAt least dad isnât here,â I say to myself. Then Iâd be in trouble.

Thank you so much! I'm desperate...
@Belle I'm thankful you want to help. No real reason that she couldn't remember her mom's name, just that she choked a little under the pressure. The MC wants her brother in daycare because of her abusive alcoholic dad, who tends to take out his temper on the little brother more than anyone. Before they just had him hide in the basement, but the MC doesn't think that's very healty for a nine year old and wants to put him somewhere safe where he can't be harmed but can still have fun with kids his age.

Hope that cleared up any confusion. Feel free to ask any more questions if something's still not quite clicking. :)

Answer
Hi. I'd like to help, but I've got some plot questions. How does she not know her mother's name, but has her social security number? Why is she trying to get Aaron to Kids at Heart?

Maybe with answers to these, I can help.

Belle

-----------------------------
Okay - here are my thoughts (which are just my opinion - feel free to ignore them.)

Iâd open with something that puts this scene in context. Perhapsâ¦

The clock shows 4:15. My brother Aaron got home from school a little after 3:30. He has until 6 before I need to get him into the basement.

My chest tightens at the thought. Itâs not fair he has to hide down there all the time. Mom only cares aboutâ¦Mom. And Dad? Aaron still has black/purple bruises on his back and legs.

Making up my mind, I grab for the phone and dial a number Iâve had memorized for a while.

âSydney from Kids at Heart. How may I help you?"

I glance at Aaron in the living room, whose eyes are glued to the screen and fingers rapidly clicking the controller. Perfect. "I'd like to enroll my son in your after school care."

"Great! Can I have your name please?"

"My name? Jessica Bernal."

"You're not Mom. What are you doing?" He turns to give me a suspicious look.

"Uh, school," I say, but I can tell he doesn't buy it. He pretends to start playing his game again but he's a horrible faker. There's no doubt in my mind he's all ears to me now.

I hear her typing on the other line, then her bubbly voice comes through again.

"Nice to meet you, Jessica. Can I have a phone and social security number?"

etc.

Goody bag ideas for a race-car themed birthday party?

ShareKnowl

I have boys and girls attending the party. Age range 2-12. Need ideas for cheap goody bags. Preferably a single item. No candies . Thanks a bunch.

Answer
I would get car themed coloring books/pages and print off internet to put in bag with crayola crayons usually .25 or 50 cents in back to school sales.

Why do goody bags? We never did.

Why not do a take home art project of make a car from boxes (free at grocery store), Cut cardboard wheels out, color with crayon or paint. Let them do a Fred Flintstone race by standing in their box, holding it up in the air and running. Cheap and entertaining and more memorable souvenir than a cheap goody bag. duct tape straps over the shoulder can help hold car up for small kids...

Question about air bag safety?

Tom Mustan

I am a male that is short,so i sit close to the steering wheel. Is it dangerous to sit to close to the steering wheel? I heard of people being killed or injured by air bags. How safe are air bags? There was an 18 year old girl killed by an air bag in Oklahoma a couple of days ago by an air bag in a minor accident in a high school parking lot.Are air bags helpful or harmful?

Answer
It all depends on the situation. Depending on the situation, air bags "DO" save lives. My son is only 5'5' and total my car last Sept. both air bags went off and he and his friend were ok. He hydroplaned and the car went in circles one way then the other, ripping the bumpers all the way off completing when it hit the barriers, needless to say my Monte Carlo was totalled but he and his friend weren't hurt at all. The air bags didn't hurt them either. I think they are worth having. The girl who was killed must have been a freak accident. I am only 4'11" and have wondered like you, but they are there for a reason to surround you when needed.

School lunches...?

I think school lunches should contain a fruit, dairy, fiber, some sort of veggie, & protein maybe. Can you name 5 different things from each group that would be nice to have for a kid's lunch? Anything else like sandwiches or snacks like pudding or jello would be nice too lol. Thank you guys & gals!
I want ideas to pack lunches at home. This has nothing to do with school lunches!

Answer
Grains: crackers, bread (on sandwiches), tortillas (instead of bread, make roll ups with meat, etc.)

Protein: hard boiled egg (I peel it and put it in a ziploc bag), lunch meat, peanut butter (on sandwiches, celery slices, or on tortillas), nuts

Fruit/veggies: baby carrots, apple slices, grapes, celery, peaches, apple sauce, orange slices

Dairy: string cheese, yogurt (tube kinds are best for the lunchbox - keep them in the freezer and it will thaw by lunchtime), cream cheese (on tortillas or crackers, or in celery), ranch dressing (to dip carrots in), cheese (on sandwiches, etc.)

It's good to have an ice pack in the lunch box for items that need to be refrigerated (lunch meat, eggs, yogurt, cheese, anything with mayonnaise etc.) so that you don't risk your child getting sick.

What should i prepare for the Valentine's day on my school ?

why r u as

Answer
Not too sure what you mean by the way you asked your question. Maybe you mean what to take to school on Valentines Day ? If that is it get some plastic zip lock bags and put some candy kisses in them and give them to your friends. If there is someone you want to ask to be your Valentine get a cute card and give that to them.

Valentine's fundraiser at HIGH SCHOOL?

hderek09

What is a good, cheap, and profitable fundraiser for valentine's day at a HIGH SCHOOL?

Answer
How about bagging up those little Hershey kisses and Hershey hugs in netting and selling them for students, and parents alike, to give to sweethearts, secret admires etc. ? You can print out little tags pretty cheaply so that they can personalize them :)

Good Luck!

What kind of backpack should i get?

I'm going into 6th grade. Should i get a rolling backpack, a regular backpack, or a messanger bag?

Thanks

Answer
A rolling backpack is the best for your back, a regular backpack is the best for hiking and camping on the weekends, and a messenger bag is the coolest of all the book bags.

Of course the coolest kids don't bother with books or homework anyway, they're too busy memorizing cheers, football plays, and the latest street names for recreational drugs.

Whatever type of backpack you choose, make sure that it's of high enough quality that the cool kids can use it to carry their Arby's uniform to the bus stop after you graduate highschool and donate it to Goodwill.

You'll want those lapels looking sharp when they hand you your beef and cheddar!

When did kids start taking rolling suitcases to school?

icecold

Answer
When we decided to do something about the threat of Scoliosis ( I think that's how it is spelled.) I myself take a rolling backpack to school and I assure you it is much better for your back than lugging around a ton of textbooks with a traditional backpack. In case you aren't aware, scoliosis is when the vertebrae becomes crooked because of extended periods of uneven weight distribution. Since back packs are hardly centered scoliosis can show up when the child becomes older.

And they aren't really rolling suitcases, they are just backpacks with wheels and a plastic frame.

I hope I answered your question!

be cool kid. dun worry to much. thats why they say as cool as a cucumber, cause cucumbers dont worry.
1) u prepare for school by having a good nights sleep.
2)maintain grades by paying attention in class and finish whatever homework your teacher throws at you.
3) Be yourself. wear what feels comfortable, not cute
4)google "locker parts/ accessories" or go to ebay/amazon, and search locker
5)personally, I dun like those popular douchebags in my school. dont give a damn about being popular. when youre popular, you have more haters as well. focus more on being a good friend, a friend whos there for the lonely.
6)its not like you will die there.
7&8)follow your heart. however, be sure u have enough time to balance your studies as well

Cute bag for school....?

Mari

Yes, friends and fashionistas, it's that time to be looking for a glam back to school bag again!

Last year, I made the life changing discovery that instead of my bleh black and yellow hiking backpack I was using at the beginning of the year while waiting for my perfect match, I could use... *gasp* a large purse to put everything in! I got a cute china patterned white and blue hobo bag (it's really big) from my closet and used it all year long.

But, alas, my china patterned hobo bag has had a good run, and now it's time for me to find a new, cute bag for school. I would go to the mall, but there's two things that are stopping me:

1. I live in Colombia, and the prices at the malls here are ridiculously high.
2. I'm lazy.

So, can you help me? Maybe you know of a (big) cute bag I could use for a backpack? My limit is 30 USD. Thanks lots!

Answer
This is a little above your limit, but it's for a good cause. www.jatalo.com/shop

For every bag they sell, they donate a year's worth of textbooks to a child in need. And I used books71 to get 10% off.

How can I be prepared for school?

Claymore #

I have some trouble getting organized, and I need some help
-I need tips on organizing my bag
-I need tips on taking notes, since it always ends up being a block with unreadable words
-I need help with getting up early
Thank you all!! It is very appreciated ;)

Answer
For your bag:
To and from school, I carry a 1 inch binder with ALL my subjects in it. This way I KNOW I have everything I need. Each subject is divided with a Divider that HAS POCKETS (very useful for handouts when you don't have time to hole punch). To keep my binder from getting full, at home I keep a 1 inch binder for EACH subject, and at the end of a unit, or when my binder is getting too full I take papers from the to and from school binder and put it in the corresponding binder at home. Keep extra loose leaf at the front pocket of your to and from binder. If you don't think 1 inch is big enough, go for 1 and a half, but once you get to 2 inches, your bag isn't really light anymore, and you want to minimize the amount of stuff you carry home.
Some other useful stuff for your bag: pencil case! You don't want everything randomly lying in your bag so you have to dig for a pencil. Posits! Great for if you want to flag something, say you didn't understand something your teacher taught and you want to ask her a question about it later, or look it up online when you get home. A hole punch! High school is all about handouts. Personally, I also keep a lip balm, a snack, and a pocket do it yourself hangman or sudoku for extreme boredom.

For taking notes:
Try to subdivide your notes. For example, if your teacher is talking about how the Mongols Invaded China, write Mongols Invade China. Underneath that, indent a little bit and write details, like this:
Mongols Invade China
____ -detail
____-detail
____-detail
_______ -you can subdivide further

When you're finished taking notes, highlight or underline the most important stuff, this helps a lot for classes where you take a lot of notes, because as you're taking notes you can't always tell what's the most important.
Using different color pens also helps, for example you can make the headings all blue, and then the details black, or a different color for each section.
Use abbreviations that you understand.
Diagrams often help, for example the structure of social class, or a time line, or a cycle of events. This way it's visual and easier to remember for a test.
If you still feel that your notes look like a block of text, try skipping lines in between certain things

For waking up:
I know this probably sounds like your mother, but go to bed at a reasonable time! Do your homework when you get home, and if you can't do it right away, allow your self a small break, like half an hour, and then start it! Take breaks so your brain remains functional. If you know you often get side tradked on the internet, do all your hw that requires the intnet first, then shut off your computer or internet for the rest of the time If you have too much Hw and it's already late, do some in the morning, your brain is thinking better then. Set your self an alarm, and if you know you'll keep pressing snooze, set a a second alarm on your phone, for the latest time that you can wake up with out being late, but put your phone away from your bed, so unless you get up it will keep beeping. Also, in the morning, you can drink tea. It has caffeine in it, but it's better for you than coffee. And it tastes great! It really helps me to stay focused in the morning, and for my first couple of classes I bring an insulated beverage bottle with tea to school.

Hi I was thinking of taking this backpack...
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Accessories/Bags/Hello-Kitty-Red-Head-Backpack-319079.jsp

Do you think it's too childish?
I really don't know what high school is exactly like so... yeah...

I was also thinking of taking a plaid backpack like this:
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Accessories/Bags/Backpacks/Yak-Pak-Black-And-White-Buffalo-Checkered-Backpack-267425.jsp
and putting some buttons on it...

or a tote bag..

What would you suggest...
and is hello kitty too childish? i really like the first backpack but i don't want to get picked on...
Thanks for the help!
No rude answers please!

you could always just buy a plain bag and customise it?
add some badges, chains, stickers, sow things on etc etc, your friend won't be able to copy you that way either!

Ruger .454 Casull for backpacking?

Chris G

Can anyone recommend the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan .454 Casull revolver with 2.5" barrel?

--I will be staying with my family in a nice big cabin in Alaska for most of 2009, and I wanted a good, durable, and very powerful revolver for conceal carry. I already own a shotgun, which I am also taking with me, but I wanted something that I can COMFORTABLY carry with me while hiking on trails with my wife. I was told by my uncle that this specific revolver, despite the harsh recoil, would be best, but I wondered what your opinions of it are?
Here is a link with a picture of the gun:
http://www.impactguns.com/store/media/ruger_sup_redhawk_alaskan.jpg

Answer
I recently examined just this revolver. Seems someone bought it, fired it once and traded for something else. The guy at the gun shop even told me he'd throw in a box of ammo with only one shell missing. I thought he was kidding until I opened the cylinder and noticed only one slot of six smoked-up. Guess he fired it once and decided he wanted something less intense!

I was impressed with the revolver itself. It feels sturdy, solid and well-made (like other Ruger products). You know that this revolver will also shoot the .45 LC? That would be better for anything but more serious threats like big bear. I hear this model is also chambered for .480 Ruger and even though the .480 is bigger than the .454 Casull for some reason I can't really understand the reviews say it is more manageable to shoot than the .454 Casull???

Consider also the Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Casull with at least a 6" barrel. Although its only a five-shot it is heavier and has a longer compensated barrel and better grips for managing the intense recoil.

I'll be staying in a cabin in South Texas the rest of this year (while our retirement home is being built). I'll take my Glock Model 20 10mm and a .357 Magnum with me. This besides my hunting rifles and shotgun because deer and bird seasons are right around the corner.

Happy hunting.

Best Store Prank to do before School Starts?

Outlaw Imm

Yea I want to do some pranks in Wal-Mart/Toys R' Us/ETC.
Please no Intercom Pranks or throwing balls accross the Isles Just something harmless and annoying xD

Answer
101 FUNNY THINGS TO DO:

1. Take shopping carts for the express purpose of filling them
and stranding them at strategic locations.

2. Ride those little electronic cars at the front of the store.

3. Set all the alarm clocks to go off at ten minute intervals
throughout the day.

4. Start playing Calvinball; see how many people you can get
to join in.

5. Contaminate the entire auto department by sampling all the
spray air fresheners.

6. Challenge other customers to duels with tubes of gift wrap.

7. Leave cryptic messages on the typewriters.

8. Re-dress the mannequins as you see fit.

9. When there are people behind you, walk REALLY SLOW,
especially thin narrow aisles.

10. Walk up to an employee and tell him in an official tone, "I
think we've got a Code 3 in Housewares," and see what
happens.

11. Tune all the radios to a polka station; then turn them all off
and turn the volumes to "10".

12. Play with the automatic doors.

13. Walk up to complete strangers and say, "Hi! I haven't seen
you in so long!â¦" etc. See if they play along to avoid
embarrassment.

14. While walking through the clothing department, ask
yourself loud enough for all to hear, "Who BUYS this junk,
anyway?"

15. Repeat Number 14 in the jewelry department.

16. Ride a display bicycle through the store; claim you're
taking it for a "test drive."

17. Follow people through the aisles, always staying about
five feet away. Continue to do this until they leave the
department.

18. Play soccer with a group of friends, using the entire store
as your playing field.

19. As the cashier runs your purchases over the scanner, look
mesmerized and say, "Wow. Magic!"

20. Put M&M's on layaway.

21. Move "Caution: Wet Floor" signs to carpeted areas.

22. Set up a tent in the camping department; tell others you'll
only invite them in if they bring pillows from Bed and Bath.

23. Test the fishing rods and see what you can "catch" from
the other aisles.

24. Ask other customers if they have any Grey Poupon.

25. Drape a blanket around your shoulders and run around
saying,"â¦I'm Batman. Come, Robin, to the Batcave!"

26. TP as much of the store as possible.

27. Randomly throw things over into neighboring aisles.

28. Play with the calculators so that they all spell "hello"
upside down.

29. When someone asks if you need help, begin to cry and ask,
"Why won't you people just leave me alone?"

30. Make up nonsense products and ask newly hired
employees if there are any in stock, i.e., "Do you have any
Shnerples here?"

31. Take up an entire aisle in Toys by setting up a full scale
battlefield with G.I. Joes vs. the X-Men.

32. Take bets on the battle described above.

33. Hold indoor shopping cart races.

34. Dart around suspiciously while humming the theme from
"Mission: Impossible."

35. Run up to an employee (preferably a male) while
squeezing your legs together and practically yell at him " I
need some tampons!!"

36. Try on bras in the sewing/fabric department.

37. Try on bras over top of your clothes.

38. Attempt to fit into very large gym bags.

39. Attempt to fit others into very large gym bags.

40. Say things like, "Would you be so kind as to direct me to
your Twinkies?"

41. Set up a "Valet Parking" sign in front of the store.

42. Two words: "Marco Polo."

43. Leave Cheerios in Lawn and Garden, pillows in the pet
food aisle, etc.

44. "Re-alphabetize" the CD's in Electronics.

45. Make a trail of orange juice on the ground, leading to the
restrooms

46. When someone steps away from their cart to look at
something, quickly make off with it without saying a word.

47. Relax in the patio furniture until you get kicked out.

48. When an announcement comes over the loudspeaker,
assume the fetal position and scream, "No, no! It's those
voices again!"

49. Pay off layaways fifty cents at a time.

50. Drag a lounge chair on display over to the magazines and
relax. If the store has a food court, buy a soft drink; explain
that you don't get out much, and ask if they can put a little
umbrella in it.

51. While walking around the store, sing in your loudest voice
possible "sex and candy"

52. Try putting different pairs of women's panties on your
head and walk around the store casually.

53. Leave small sacrifices or gifts in the hands of the
mannequins.

54. Nonchalantly "test" the brushes and combs in Cosmetics.

55. When two or three people are walking ahead of you, run
between them, yelling, "Red Rover!"

56. Look right into the security camera, and use it as a mirror
while you pick your nose.

57. Set up another battlefield with G.I. Joes vs. G.I. Janes.
(Red lipstick might give an interesting effect!!!)

58. While handling guns in the hunting department, suddenly
ask the clerk if he knows where the anti-depressants are. Act
as spastic as possible.

59. While no one's watching quickly switch the men's and
women's signs on the doors of the rest room.

60. Fill your cart with boxes of condoms, and watch
everyone's jaws drop when you attempt to buy them.

61. In the auto department, practice your "Madonna" look with
various funnels.

62. Hide in the clothing racks and when people browse
through, say things like "the fat man walks alone," and scare
them into believing that the clothes are talking to them

63. While walking around alone, pretend someone is with you
and get into a very serious conversation. Ex: The person is
breaking up with you and you begin crying "How could you
do this to me? I thought you loved me! I knew there was
another girl, but I thought I had won. You kissed ME
darling." Then act as though you are being beaten and fall onto
the ground screaming and having convulsions.

64. Go to an empty checkout stand and try to check people
out.

65. Get a stuffed animal and go to the front of the store and
begin stroking it lovingly, saying "Good girl, good bessie."

66. Go over to the shoe department and try on every pair of
shoes, not putiing one pair back. Take the paper from the
boxes and throw it in various aisles.

67. Ask other customers if they have any Grey Poupon.

68. In the makeup department, spray yourself with every
perfume there is, then walk up to a boy who is with another
girl and start flirting with him in that annoying, ditsy way.
"hi!!!! (giggle) What's your sign?(giggle)." When the boy
shows no interest, start hitting on the girl the exact same way.
"hi!!!! (giggle) What's your sign?(giggle)."

69. Get boxes of Condoms and randomly put them in peoples
carts when they don't realize it!

70. Walk around the perfume department with a bottle of
super strong perfume and spray people as they walk by. Lean
in and sniff them then jump back and wave your hand in front
of your nose and saying "Oh god, your over powering the
perfume!!"

71. Hit on the elderly.

72. Hit on 5 year olds.

73. In the food aisle, pretend like there's a little bug, slowly
move your head to the right, then swing your head to the left
as if your trying to follow it. Slowly lower your head to the
ground, then start spinning around in circles stomping like
crazy. Then finally yell out "Yes!!! I got it!!! Wow, that was
the biggest Cockrouch I've ever seen, i think it was pregnant!!!
Hey look, there's another one!!!" Then Repeat.

74. Repeat 73 with a can of bug spray.

75. Crawl around on the ground and pretend that your a cat.
Meow when people walk by, rub up against their legs, etc.

76. Ride around on those electric cars and pretend that your a
prissy English Man. Say things like "Cheerio, good man." to
people who walk by. And don't forget to have perfect posture.

77. Start grunting like Beavis and Butthead while chasing your
friends up and down aisles trying to run over them with those
electric cars. Make sure to tell your friends to act like they
don't know you.

78. Spend all your money riding on those little rides for
toddlers. Fit the character; if your on a hoarse, then pretend
that your a cowboy, etc.. And If a little kid comes over
wanting to use it, start barking at them until
they run away crying.

79. Have silly string fights with a friend. Hide behind
customers and "accidentally" hit the people instead of your
friend.

80. Excesively use anything thing that says "Try Me".

81. Start pocketing any and all free samples.

82. Draw mustaches on all the pictures and mannequins.

82. Walk up to the customer service and when they say
"Hello, how may I help you?" say "Yes, I'll have a Quarter
Pounder with cheese, one strawberry shake, a large order of
french fries and a diet coke." And when they start to talk, say
"Oh, to go". Then when they say that they can't give it to you
say "Oh, This is because I'm gay isn't it? I'd expect this from
Caldors, but not Walmart. People who are gay are just like
everyone else your know. You digust me" Then walk away
mumbling to yourself. If your a guy, try to act as valley- girl-
like as you can

83. Start to madly scratch yourself and walk up to people
asking where the rash cream is because your family and all
your friends seem to have a rash too.

84. When your alone, have loud conversations with your
"multiple personalities". Have an English man, a Southern
person, someone from New York, a Grandma, and a 5 year old
girl all at the same time. You have to use accent

What should I bring for my kids traveling internationally?

Jewel

We are going on vacation to visit family for the first time in Europe this summer but I am a little scared about the flight over and back. I have a 10 yr old, 6 yr old and a 2 yr old (all boys) and I need some serious ideas to keep them entertained during all parts of the flight (take off, supper, sleeping, landing etc). I'm especially worried about the 2 yr old and 6 yr old. What are some good traveling tips, ideas to bring (not just in general toys, what kind?) hints that would help on their first international airplane ride?

Answer
I've been traveling internationally with my son since he was born (now 26 months) and for longer than that with my nieces and nephews and with a little planning all will go smooth. Looks like you are already on the right track.

Here are some tips:

1 Arrive at the airport early to get checked in comfortably and be sure you have documents in order. In addition to a passport, it is always good to carry a copy of your children's birth certificate -- you may need it to prove you are their parent. Also if you are traveling alone with your children be sure you have a notarized letter from the other parent giving you permission to do so or you may be stopped at security.

If you need a stroller for your 2-year-old, you can go through security with a stroller and take your baby in the stroller right up to the door of the airplane -- you stroller will need a tag that you get at the gate -- and they will check it for you there. Take advantage of early boarding for families -- if your kids won't get too crazy waiting on the plane for everyone else to board. If so, board last.

2. When booking your seat, ask for seats in the bulkhead. That is the area right in the front of the plane. It has more room and will allow you to easily change your child or let him/her play when it is safe to do so. One note though: Because there are no seats in from of you, you'll have to stow all your carry-on luggage in the overhead compartments during take-off and landing and that could impede access for necessary items like toys. A window seat is great for kids and maybe your kids can share, switching off for the flight. My 2-year-old loves to look out the window and see the wing and the clouds!

3. Be sure to bring favorite snacks (we always have cheerios on hand) as many airlines don't serve food anymore and those that do either serve things kids won't eat, can't eat (peanuts) or serve junk food. (We order a kid's meal on one flight and it consisted of potato chips, candy bars and a sugery drink -- things we don't give our kid anyway, but a disaster to pump them full of sugar on a plane). Bottled water is plentiful on board so you can always bring dried cereals that can be rehydrated and heated by flight attendants, who in my experience have always been willing to help. Remember that there are limits on liquids that you can bring on through security these days -- including baby foods -- but whatever you buy after security is okay. Look for easy to carry, easy to eat foods in the airport. I know not always easy but even applesauce is a good choice.

4. Before the flight, go to a dollar store and pick up some cheap toys. I usually get one thing for every hour of flight -- that would be times 3 for you. What you get is really up to your child's interest but make it something that can carried easily. A new toy is a novelty and will keep your child entertained longer. Do pack a few favorites from home, especially some good books your child loves to read or have read to her. But if your child has an irreplaceable toy (a favorite teddy bear he has to sleep with for example) either don't bring it or don't bring it out during flight in case it gets lost. Your child will be desperate! (Don't pack it in your checked luggage either -- if this gets lost, same problem). Before you leave find out if the plane your will be on has in-seat entertainment systems. These are great for kids because they can play video games or watch TV or movies. If not, you may consider investing in a portable DVD player if you kids will wear headphones -- although with three kids unless you want to lug 3 players this could become a problem.

Make sure each kid has there own piece of luggage -- a backpack or small rollaway -- to keep their stuff in and make them feel like they a big kid for having their own suitcase.

Get the kids interested in the flight plan -- they usually show this on video at certain points during the flight. They can figure out how long they've been flying, what countries they've passed over, etc. Lots of fun for the older ones.

5. To deal with pressure on the ears for your child, be sure they have something to suck on. The older two can learn how to yawn or unblock their ears in otherways like by chewing gum. For the little one, if your child takes a pacifier let him have it during takeoff and landing. If not a sippy cup is good.

6. Some people might recommend this but I don't think you have to drug your child to fly with them. Some people will suggest that you give your child things like benadryl to make them sleep and I think this is a mistake. You child should only take medications that are medically necessary not for the convenience of you or other adults who may not like that you are traveling with an infant.

What you should do is carry any common medicines you use for your children (Children's Tylenol, for example) in case they get sick while you are abroad and you can't find medicines they are used to taking. Also keep your pediatrician's contact info with you in case you have to contact them.

7. Always ask for help if you need it from airline employees both on the ground and in-flight. They are more than happy to help to make your flight as smooth as possible.

Finally, check with your pediatrician before you leave to see if they have any suggestions for you or if your child is not well if it is okay to fly.

Hope this is all helpful and that you have a great flight and vacation!

Have you ever "backpacked" through Europe?

Jordan

And if so, what cities did you visit, how'd you get around, and what hotels/hostels did you stay in? I would love to, but haven't the slightest clue as to the best way to see Europe .

Answer
I actually was living in the UK and travelled when I could, so technically I didn't do it in one big go...just lots of little goes.

What I can say is I KNOW how overwhelming it seems. I remember getting there and trying to figure out where I would go first...I literally felt like a kid in a candy shop! I decided on Paris!

What I would also say, after having the experience of travelling around is it is better to see FEWER places and more thoroughly than seeing lots of places really quickly. Reasons why is that you spend a LOT of your time travelling from A to B to C etc ( things like travelling, waiting for trains/buses/planes) not including delays, waiting times to catch connecting, getting to and from your accommodiaiotn. It really adds up.

It depends on how long you are staying as well. You can do things to get you started like doing one of those bus companies that have a circuit and you get on and off where you want and find your own accommodation. It maybe an option. Otherwise look for a specific route you can take that gives you an actual plan and something you can work with.

Websties for accommdaiotn are www.hostels.com, ww.hostelworld.com, www.hostelbookers.com and www.lonelyplanet.com. What you can do is lok thru them to see options and costs for places. Some places will be more pricey than others eg I found Florence ( Italy) quite exepnsive and stayed in a campground ( in a cabin) 15km out of Florence. It was cheaper, but took up to 50mins by bus to get into town and cost over 4 euro per journey. so you weigh up distance from centre and cost of accommodaiotn...places closer are usually more expensive but agaisnt time to get to and from it, cost of transport sometimes its better to go more central. The websites have ratings for accommodation as well!

To get started maybe make a list of places you REALLY want to see. Look on a map for a possible route...its generally pretty easy to get from one place to another by whatever transport ( note a good website for european flights is www.skyscanner.net) so that is usually not a problem.

There are also places that are amazing that you may not have considered. Eg I had never thought of going to Croatia, Slovenia and Czech Republic, but they rate up there as my favourite places ( AND are cheaper than other places)....Prague is REALLY worth a look.
As a single female who travelled by myself for the majority of my trips, I liked the freedom of travelling by myself, but you can easily pick up people to go around with and meet up agian with in hostels....
I went to France ...Paris and central France ( around Figiac/Cahors in the Dordogne region....lovely
Italy.....HEAPS to offer here and can recommend all the places I went to..Verona, Venice, Sienna, Rome, Florence and Bologna.
Czech Republic.Prague and Cesky Krumulov
Slovenia: Ljubljana, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj
Croatia: Zargreb, Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar
Amsterdam...only comment. It was the ONLY place I stayed where I felt I have overdone it..I was there for 3 nights, 2 too many in my opinion.
Belgium: Brussels, Bruges/Brugge
Ireland: Dublin, Kilkenny, Tralee, Limerick
Wales and England...I actually didn't see as much in England as I should have considering I was living there for nearly 2 years, but travel is expensive here, even for people living and earning the pound!!!!

So I would chose some places, ask for opinions to help narrow the search and for "extra" places you may not have considered. My sister always said if 3 different people tell you about a place....seriously consider it as a place to go!!!
Have fun!

Style for teen boys in 2014?

Brandon

Ok every one is saying like skinny jeans vans converse vnecks. Well I don't like that. I hate all jeans, i wear these clothes

Warm weather: sneakers, black ankle socks, shorts, t shirt, and a hoodie almost 24/7

Cold weather: sneakers, any socks, sweatpants or like Nike pants, t shirt and hoodie almost 24/7

Answer
And your question is .... I'm guessing you're wondering what styles might be for teenage boys during Summer 2013 - 2014?

Well, given teenage boys can range from Junior High School to college, honestly, some more information is necessary.

Quickly, though: Everyone says to be yourself, but thing is as you progress you're expected to have more in your bag of tricks than simply sweat pants and shorts. Those are fine for Junior HS, but Sr. HS and especially college, you should have variety than shorts and sweat pants.

You should consider the situation and what clothes work best for it. Sneakers can work in most every situation, but there isn't one sneaker that can cover it all. Even "dress sneakers," which end up being very versatile can't cover everything especially gym class and similar activities.

Being very honest, you need to think about not just your age but also what you're planning on doing (e.g. activity). You could give us more information, such as age, general location, activities, what you see your friends wearing, etc. The more you tell us about yourself and what is going on around you the better people can help you.
