How much money? Average cost of 4-year degree for Americans is $250,000. Foreign students have expenses Americans do not incur. Use that figure for preliminary planning while you start checking out schools. You need: tuition, fees, books, supplies, equipment, high-speed internet access, room & board (which probably includes your internet, but not sign-up for internet review sessions of classes, etc). Add health insurance (mandatory, can run $300-400/month), clothing, laundry, snacks & such (e.g. coffee, etc), entertainment, club memberships, local transportation, all your personal expenses including toiletries, phone. You will need to buy all your sheets, towels, pillows, blankets, bedding, etc, laundry bag/basket, winter clothing & boots, and loads more "stuff." The list of expenses seems endless! Proof of sufficient funds for all school + living expenses, plus return transportation to your country of citizenship is mandatory to apply for a student visa if you are accepted at a university.
