What size/brand backpack should I look into for a 12 day backpacking trip in Costa Rica?

Hey, so over this December, a few friends and I are planning on going backpacking in Costa Rica. We'll be gone for 12 days but we'll actually only be in the country traveling for about 10 (due to plane times). This is all of our first time backpacking in a country so I was wondering what are some good sized packs for us to have? We don't want something too big since it'll draw attention to us and we'll (hopefully) have laundry access, but we want something larger than a school bag. What would you suggest?

I would go to REI or EMS and try some bags..
You probably don't want to have too big a bag but want one that fits, is comfortable and is sturdy. a medium sized

We have a few Osprey bags that have been excellent and travelled with us across many different countries and climates without fail.
I would think this would work for 10 days for Costa Rica.. you won't need heavy winter stuff but likely some rain gear, boots and sandals..

Also remember you'll likely need to get a back back cover to be able to check your bag onto the flight.. Some airlines require them so straps dont' hang up on luggage equipment. You can get the covers at REI or other outdoor store when you buy your pack..

that way if you store your backpack but have a flashpack for popping around, carrying on the plane etc..
